In the summer of 2020, dozens of high-profile influencers in videogaming entertainment were accused of sexual harassment and predatory behavior. Among them, popular gaming YouTuber Craig Thompson (username Mini Ladd) confessed on Twitter to sexting minors but resumed uploading content to his YouTube channel one month later, resulting in public outcry. Thompson's return to YouTube, as a case study, illustrates how predatory influencers can manipulate technical affordances across social media platforms to insulate themselves from accountability and maintain their revenue and audience. Drawing on data scraped from Twitter (34k tweets) and YouTube (62k comments and video network data), this article uses a mixed-methods social network analysis (Jean Burgess and Ariadna Matamoros-Fernández, 2016) to map the public effort to deplatform Mini Ladd. This case study explores issues of cross-platform insulation and audience manipulation by demonstrating how a predatory influencer: 1) censored keywords in his comments to obfuscate criticism; 2) optimized YouTube's video algorithms to avoid references to his scandal; and 3) upheld harassment towards his young fanbase. Ultimately, I argue that YouTube's policies are ill-equipped to manage the networked practices of predatory influencers and that the platform's reliance on morally motivated networked harassment (Alice E. AbstractThis study analyzed an AI chatbot’s perspectives on adolescent sexting through quantitative questionnaire responses and a qualitative conversational interview. Findings revealed problematic biases stemming from limitations in training data and algorithms. The chatbot showed an imbalanced focus on sexting’s risks compared to benefits for healthy sexual development. Responses frequently associated teen sexting with criminal offenses like child pornography, reflecting legalistic age bias. Gender bias also emerged in framing sexting as far riskier for girls versus boys. Additionally, the chatbot demonstrated gaps applying nuanced consent principles attuned to complex teen relationship dynamics. While covering consent fundamentals, responses lacked an understanding of how initial willingness differs from non-consensual sharing. The study suggests training data limitations skewed the chatbot’s framing away from empowering adolescent sexual agency. Opportunities exist to mitigate biases through improving training data balance, incorporating community input, expanding consent frameworks and encouraging nuanced risk/benefit analysis. More inclusive design with human oversight is vital for chatbots to provide comprehensive, empowering sexuality education to youth. The evolution of technology has transformed the way young adults develop and maintain relationships, including their sexuality. Since many young adults report low sexual satisfaction, it is important to understand what contributes to these negative experiences. Several studies have identified that attachment anxiety and avoidance are related to lower sexual satisfaction. However, few studies have considered technology-mediated sexual interactions (TMSI) – and the motives for doing so – in the associations between attachment and sexual satisfaction. This study explored the mediating and moderating role of TMSI (frequency and motives) in these associations in a sample of 478 young adults (Study 1) and 142 couples (Study 2). Results showed that attachment anxiety was related to a higher TMSI frequency and engaging in TMSI for avoidance motives. Engaging in TMSI for approach motives was related to higher sexual satisfaction, while engaging in TMSI for avoidance motives was related to lower sexual satisfaction. Finally, engaging in TMSI to manage distance moderated the association between attachment avoidance and sexual satisfaction. These results suggest that beyond the role of attachment anxiety and avoidance, contemporary factors related to digital technologies, such as sexting frequency and motives, are related to sexual satisfaction. This study showed that young adults who have developed insecure attachment are less sexually satisfied and more frequently use technology-mediated sexual interactions (TMSI) such as sexting with their partner, but mostly to avoid negative consequences. Scholars have noted a rise in sexting behavior in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the association between religion and sexual behavior has been widely studied, researchers have yet to consider whether sexting behavior might vary according to levels of religiosity. Building on prior research, this study uses national survey data to formally test whether several dimensions of religiosity (religious attendance, divine control, and religious/spiritual struggles) are associated with the sexting behavior of women (n = 619, Mage = 40.28, SD = 11.50) and men (n = 548, Mage = 40.04, SD = 11.51). Results suggest that the odds of sexting are lower among women who report higher levels of in-person religious attendance (not virtual attendance) and greater perceptions of divine control. Among women and men, the odds of sexting are higher among those who report more religious/spiritual struggles. This study is among the first to show how various dimensions of religiosity might influence sexting behavior in different ways for women and men during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is important for future research to replicate our findings and to consider whether other dimensions of religiosity might also contribute to the likelihood of sexting in an increasingly digital world. Sexting (exchanging sexual correspondence in the online space) is considered a practice that expresses sexuality in the online space. Between adolescents, sexting can be part of a couple relationship or outside of it, and can be voluntary or coercive. Regardless of motives, sexting has been linked to various negative outcomes. Understanding the factors that influence sexting behavior is essential for developing effective prevention and intervention programs. The present study aimed to identify and compare different profiles of sexting behavior in adolescents using latent class analysis. Participants were 487 Israeli adolescents aged 14-19 (male N = 215, 44%, female N = 272, 56%) years who completed an online survey of demographic factors, online parental mediation, family and friend cohesion, and perception of sexting norms. Two distinct classes of individuals were identified: those who engage in sexting ("sexters") and those who do not ("non-sexters"). Sexters were more likely to be secular, and without a romantic partner. These findings may inform interventions aimed at preventing negative outcomes associated with adolescent sexting. The aim of this study was to examine the risk factors for sext victimization and perpetration among Croatian and Bosnian-Herzegovinian adolescents. The sample comprised 4215 high school students (including 57.49% girls), aged 14 to 20 years (mean age 16.41). Attitudes toward sexting, self-control, attachment style, parental/school cell control, school cell supervision and sociodemographic data were also examined as factors potentially relating to victimization and/or perpetration of sext dissemination. Of the total sample of 4215 adolescents, nearly one-fifth (19.41%) reported either being victimized through non-consensual sext dissemination or having perpetrated sext dissemination, with boys more likely to be involved in sext dissemination compared to girls. Friends usually disseminated sexts, while the most frequently cited reason for disseminating sext was joking. Logistic regressions showed that perpetration significantly predicted victimization and vice versa. Regression analysis also showed that being male, having stronger parental control over mobile phone use, having positive attitudes toward sexting, having lower levels of self-control, and having insecure attachment increased the risk of being either a victim or perpetrator of sexting. The data suggest that there are common risk factors for both victimization and perpetration of sexts, with one of the most important factors predicting both is a positive attitude toward sexting. Sextortion, the threatened dissemination of explicit, intimate, or embarrassing images of a sexual nature without consent, is an understudied problem. Despite a recent increase in reported incidents among adolescents in the United States, little is known about the nature and extent of sextortion among this population. The current research explores sextortion behaviors among a national sample of 4972 middle and high school students (mean age = 14.5) for the purpose of illuminating how many youth are targeted, and understanding various characteristics of the incident (including who was involved, what offenders wanted, what offenders did, and who targets told). About 5% of youth reported that they were victims of sextortion, primarily by people they knew. Many of those targeted did not disclose the incident to adults. Adolescence and emerging adulthood are developmental phases in which the exploration of one's own sexuality takes on a high priority, which can increase the risk of risky sexual behavior. Due to technological advances, (non-consensual) sexting has increased among young people and has become an integral part of their sexual socialization. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to examine non-consensual sexting (both victimization and perpetration) among adolescents and emerging adults and to identify potential risk factors associated with non-consensual sexting using routine activity theory. The sample consisted of a total of 3514 adolescents aged 10–17 years (43% males; 57% females) and 3674 emerging adults aged 18–25 years (23% males; 77% females) from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. The results showed that both male adolescents and emerging adults were at higher risk for experiencing non-consensual sexting victimization. Personal factors such as gender, age, social bond, and routine cell phone activity predicted the risk of becoming a victim of non-consensual sexting in adolescents. For emerging adults, gender, social connection to friends, and routine cell phone use predicted the risk of becoming a victim of non-consensual sexting. Relationship status and routine cell phone activity predicted the forwarding of other sexts for both age groups. According to international scientific research and the findings of this particular study, we can conclude that the study of personal factors and routine variables helps understand non-consensual sexting among youth but is also essential in planning educational resources and preventive activities. The purpose of this study was to examine sexting behavior, specifically the prevalence of sexting, and its relationships with sociodemographic characteristics (i.e. gender, sexual orientation, and age) and psychological adjustment. To this end, a cross-sectional study was conducted using an online survey. The sample consisted of 999 young adults (98% Italian, 76% female, 67.4% heterosexual) with a mean age of 24.47 years (SD = 3.11). Results showed differences in sexting behavior according to gender and sexual orientation. Age was also associated with sexting behavior. These findings have important implications for clinical practice and future research. Awareness of sexting behavior and its relationships with sociodemographic characteristics can inform the development of targeted interventions to promote safe and ethical use of digital technologies in the realm of sexuality. This paper addresses sexting from an interdisciplinary perspective through a normative analysis of the new criminal offense of the misuse of recordings of sexually explicit content (Art. 144a, CC) introduced in 2021 in the Croatian Criminal Code. Based on the legislative framework and empirical study analysis, we provide conclusions on the adequacy of the existing criminal provisions with implications for future research, and present empirical findings from a 2020 online survey on sexting experiences and risky sexual behaviour with 724 adolescents (Ngirls = 534, 73,8%) aged 14–22. Older adolescents reported significantly higher sexting perpetration. Lower school achievers reported higher sexting victimization. Non-heterosexual participants reported more sexting perpetration. Participants with more sexual partners scored higher for both sexting perpetration and victimization. Sexting perpetration correlated to the group of older adolescents with lower school attainment and academic achievement who reported less family relationships satisfaction. Sexters reported more risky behaviour, higher media use intensity and more sexual knowledge, but less sexual media content exposure. Sexting positively correlated to the number of sexual partners and the relationship duration. Male gender, older age, risky behaviour, higher media use intensity, better general sexual knowledge and the number of sexual partners represented significant predictors of sexting perpetration. Frequently referred to as 'sexting' or 'amateur pornography', digital sexual images and videos form an increasingly common part of adult sexual relationships. However, the vocabulary available to speak about these practices is limited, with 'sexting' often associated with young people in negative terms. This study is based on 23 interviews with adults in Australia who are 25 years and older. It explores the language adults employ to discuss and comprehend the creation and sharing of sexualised images and videos. Findings show that negative or positive connotations associated with the terms used to discuss sexual images and videos influenced the ways participants drew on, or rejected, terms to align digital practices with their sexual subjectivity. Reticence to engage in active communication about digital sexual practices, and participant's distancing of their own practices from the terms commonly understood to refer to such practices, made it difficult to engage in conversations about consent or desire in the context of digitally mediated sex. Findings provide insight into the ways that -digital sexual subjectivities are discursively framed and extend these implications for sexual health promotion with respect to how to frame messages of digital sexual safety in a sex-positive and open way. Prior research has mainly focused on why individuals are engaging in sexting. However, little is known about sexting in intimate relationships, particularly sexting coercion. This study examined sexting coercion using social learning theory in a sample of young adults who had experience with a romantic relationship (N = 315, aged 14–28 years, 67.94% female). Individuals completed the sexting coercion scale and the social learning scale online. The results showed that over 33% of the respondents reported being victims of sexting coercion in an intimate relationship, while about 28% of them had perpetrated sexting coercion. The results suggest that sexting coercion in an intimate relationship is significantly predicted by differential association, differential reinforcement, and imitation. The findings of this study highlight the importance of exposing youth to evidence-based preventive educational interventions on sexting from the earliest age, based on the constructs of social learning theory. The findings of this study of sexting coercion among young adults are relevant to educational programmes given recent evidence of the prevalence of sexting coercion victimisation and sexting coercion perpetration among youth in romantic relationships. The findings suggest that those who engage in sexting coercion use a social learning mechanism that should be considered when developing educational interventions to prevent sexting coercion. The article studies the process of jealousy transformation in romantic relationships under the influence of digitalization. The author considers such definitions as “digital jealousy”, “digital infidelity”, and “virtual sex”, formulates a definition of digital jealousy, and considers emotional and behavioral reactions when experiencing jealousy under the influence of events and factors of the digital environment. Based on the content analysis results, behavioral markers that can be considered by a partner as evidence of digital infidelity and/or cause digital jealousy have been identified. The specific characteristics of digital jealousy include its existence in conditions of quasi-reality, diffusiveness, deployment in time and space, alienation from the fact of physical infidelity, and virtual representation. The author notes the connection between the intensity of the digital jealousy experience and the subjective significance of virtual space and representation in it. Ambivalence of the digital jealousy experience is expressed by the perception of its occurrence, on the one hand, as a predictor of physical infidelity, and, on the other hand, as a manifestation of crisis in romantic relationships and emotional estrangement of partners. It has been revealed that jealousy in digital space is largely due to a sense of ownership in relation to the time and attention of a partner and is associated with general transformation of romantic relationships in modern society.

Background: Sexting is the sharing of sexually suggestive or explicit text messages or videos using mobile phone. It has been associated with contrasting things ranging from risky health behaviours to maintaining romantic relationships. Due to the increase in cell phone possession among Nigerian young people, it is important to know their views and experiences with sexting. Objectives: This study explored the experiences of postsecondary young people attending pre-varsity examination preparatory centers in Ibadan regarding sexting. Methodology: This was a qualitative study in which four focus group discussions and four in-depth interviews were conducted among purposively selected young people and those who engage in sexting respectively. Content analysis of the data was done after transcription. Results: Sexting was described as rampant among young people and it occurs with peers, adults and international partners. Sexting occurs usually between opposite sex and it was mostly sent using social media with videos and photos commoner than texts. Males reported sending and receiving sext but are of the opinion that females request for them. All the females denied ever sending sext. Reasons for sexting include to initiate romantic relationship, imitate celebrities, get fame and feel acceptable by peers. Experienced and witnessed consequences of sexting include actual sexual intercourse, shame, blackmail and attempted suicide. Only two of the participants would allow their parents to see sext sent to them. Conclusion: Sexting was common among these young people and it is sent across borders. The implication of sexting should be taught in schools to forestall its health and legal consequences.

Research has shown that sexting—the practice of sending, receiving, and forwarding sexual messages on digital media services—is associated with poor mental health. However, few studies have moved beyond cross-sectional designs, demonstrating that individuals who engage in sexting differ in mental health from those who do not. The purpose of our study was to investigate whether sexting was associated with increases in depression symptoms and conduct problems over time. We analyzed data from three rounds of the longitudinal MyLife study among Norwegian adolescents (n = 3,000). The participants completed e-questionnaires containing instruments on sexting and mental health at three annual assessments. Random intercept cross-lagged panel models were estimated to examine the effect of sexting on within-person changes in mental health, measured one year later. We also examined the potential reverse order of the effects. In accordance with findings from cross-sectional research, the analyses showed that boys who frequently engaged in sexting also reported more depression symptoms and conduct problems. For girls, we found only a significant between-person association for sexting and depression symptoms. However, sexting was not predictive of changes in depression symptoms or conduct problems over time. On the contrary, conduct problems predicted increased sexting scores but only for girls. Our results suggest that efforts to reduce sexting may not prevent mental health problems among young people. Intervention efforts should thus redirect attention from sexting as a driver of individual mental health problems to educating adolescents on how to perform safe and responsible sexting. As technology continues to evolve, so too do privacy concerns individuals have about technology. This is especially true when individuals share highly sensitive, personal content through technology. When individuals sext, they are sharing sexually explicit messages, photos, and videos with another person. Two theories are interrogated in how they may apply to sexting and privacy: communication privacy management theory and privacy calculus. Utilizing these theories, privacy is highlighted in this article as a negotiation process between partners and technologies. Individuals must consider who they share material with and the channels they use, and these theories can help in developing a better understanding of these processes. Sexting can be a positive influence on adults’ romantic relationships, whether serious or casual; yet, they need to be able to engage in these behaviors in ways that encourage trust both interpersonally and with their technology.

The rapid advancement of sensor technologies and deep learning has significantly advanced the field of image captioning, especially for complex scenes. Traditional image captioning methods are often unable to handle the intricacies and detailed relationships within complex scenes. To overcome these limitations, this paper introduces Explicit Image Caption Reasoning (ECR), a novel approach that generates accurate and informative captions for complex scenes captured by advanced sensors. ECR employs an enhanced inference chain to analyze sensor-derived images, examining object relationships and interactions to achieve deeper semantic understanding. We implement ECR using the optimized ICICD dataset, a subset of the sensor-oriented Flickr30K-EE dataset containing comprehensive inference chain information. This dataset enhances training efficiency and caption quality by leveraging rich sensor data. We create the Explicit Image Caption Reasoning Multimodal Model (ECRMM) by fine-tuning TinyLLaVA with the ICICD dataset. Although non-consensual sexting seems to concern not only adults but also middle adolescent students, with detrimental consequences on their wellbeing, the related research-based effective school prevention programs are almost absent. Furthermore, there is an unanswered research question as to whether sex-related issues, such as sexual preoccupation, matters in adolescents’ non-consensual sexting and its prevention. The present study investigated the effectiveness of a school-based intervention against nonconsensual sexting among middle adolescents, based on the European funded program TABBY (Threat Assessment of Bullying Behavior in Youth). Furthermore, the predictive role of sexual preoccupation was examined. Overall, 280 Greek students from randomly selected junior high school responded to self-report scales on non-consensual sexting and sexual preoccupation. Based on an experimental longitudinal research design, only the experimental (N  =  131), but not the control group of students (N  =  149), participated in the intervention. To test the effectiveness of the intervention, both student groups completed the scales before (1st phase), immediately after (2nd phase), and six months after the intervention (3rd phase), which was implemented by trained teachers. The results showed both, the short-term and long-term effectiveness of the intervention. Also, the study highlighted the significant contribution of sexual preoccupation awareness in reducing non-consensual sexting, especially immediately after and six months after the intervention. The study implies the necessity to adapt existed prevention programs to the specific parameters of non-consensual sexting, integrating at the same time sexual preoccupation awareness activities to better address this issue. What happens to the perceived legitimacy of appellate courts when they allow cameras into their courtrooms? We implemented two experiments that exposed people to real video clips from two courts. In the first experiment we varied the modality (video or audio), contentiousness (neutral or contentious), and camera angle (static or dynamic) of exchanges between an attorney and judge and then measured people's views toward judicial legitimacy. We found that static angles do not appear to influence legitimacy but using dynamic angles might have a limited effect. Watching a neutral exchange might increase judicial legitimacy—compared to listening to that exchange—but watching a contentious exchange might decrease it. In a second experiment we examined whether the presence of judicial symbols interacts with these effects. Evidence here is suggestive that these symbols could mitigate the negative effect of exposure to contentious content. Our results, though initial and limited in a number of ways, underscore both the complicated nature of cameras in the courtroom as well as the strong need for additional studies on a topic of great importance. Sending unsolicited sexts is increasingly recognised as harmful and, in some countries, constitutes a criminal offence. Recipients of unwanted/unexpected sexts often report compromised mental health, yet it is currently unknown how people deal with these sexting experiences. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study explored help-seeking behaviours following the receipt of unwanted sexts and barriers to reaching out for support in Australia, where the law currently does not recognise unsolicited sexting as a criminal offence. In total, 883 participants, Mage = 22.52 years (SD = 3.09), were recruited comprising 539 (61.2%) women, 325 (36.9%) men, and 17 (1.9%) other/non-binary. Overall, women were more likely to receive unsolicited sexts (389, 81%) than men (66, 26.2%), and ≥97.7% of respondents across genders never sought support in response to these experiences. Template thematic analysis revealed the receipt of unwanted sexts was often regarded "too trivial" to seek support for, which was captured under the theme of it's just an image. Regarding barriers to help-seeking, three themes were generated: it's an awkward experience to talk about, I did not realise it was a violation, I didn't know where to go. Young Australian adults often did not seek support due to feelings of awkwardness and shame associated with receiving unwanted sexts, a lack of understanding of the violating nature of these experiences and young age, and minimal knowledge of supports. This study illustrates that community attitudes and the legal framework in Australia towards unsolicited sexting need to change to recognise this sexting variant as harmful and illegal. Queer and trans First Nations literatures offer a complex range of perspectives on social media use. In this piece, written as a letter addressing an anonymous brotherboy character called Benny, who is based on a person that catfished and harassed me online, I examine three Indigenous books that present complex, critical, or disillusioned accounts of social media use, exploring the forms of deception, harassment, racism, and creativity enabled by digital media. I engage loosely with the practice of ficto-criticism to produce this article. Ficto-critical writing, a method of anthropological and cultural studies, subverts traditional academic writing; presenting a hallucinatory form of self-narration and anthropological writing. Using this interdisciplinary and experimental approach, this article experiments with the concept of anonymity and privacy, key themes in the writing of queer First Nations authors on the topic of the internet. Background: Sexting is the sending and receiving of nude or partially nude images or videos. Despite it being a part of contemporary relationships, it can have adverse effects. This is particularly the case when receiving non-consensual sexts. To date, there remains a gap in the literature on whether receiving non-consensual sexts is associated with poor sleep. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the association between receiving non-consensual sexts and average sleep duration. Methods: Data from Wave 2 (2022) of the Canadian Study of Adolescent Health Behaviours (N = 906) were analysed. Multinomial logistic regression analyses were used to determine the association between receiving non-consensual sexts (both image and video) in the past 12 months and average sleep duration (≤5 h, 6 h, 7 h, 8 h, and ≥9 h) in the past 2 weeks. Analyses were stratified by gender. Results: Girls and women who received non-consensual image and video sexts, compared to those who did not, were more likely to report ≤5 h of average sleep in the past 2 weeks, relative to 8 h of average sleep. There were no significant findings among boys and men. Conclusion: Findings underscore that receiving non-consensual image and video sexts may negatively impact sleep among girls and women, which may be contextualised by trauma responses experienced because of gender-based sexual violence. Healthcare and mental health professionals should be made aware of this association to provide effective care to girls and women. Sexting is common among adolescents and is largely considered a part of contemporary adolescent and young adult relationships. However, receiving non-consensual sexts can have adverse mental health effects, despite little known about the effects on sleep. This study asked whether there are any problematic behaviors predictive of online risk taking by high school students. Using a 2009 dataset of 2,077 high school students grades 9–12, five areas of offline problematic behaviors were examined: Academic problems, anxiety, behavioral wrongdoing, bullying, and social-emotional. Nine binary results were classified as online risk: Sexting, online harassment (perpetrating and experiencing), visiting sex sites, talking about sex, receiving sexual pictures, meeting offline, anything sexual happened, feeling nervous or uncomfortable. Behavioral wrongdoing (fighting, school suspension, trouble with police, theft), emerged as a significant predictor appearing in all nine models, followed by bullying experience (bully or victim) in six models. Adolescent sexting is considered a public health and social issue. Parents may play a fundamental role in shaping their children's attitudes and behaviours toward sexting. Adolescent attitude toward sexting overall may also be relevant for sexting engagement. The present study aimed to test a conceptual model in which sexting behaviours are explained by parental practices, mediated by adolescents' attitudes toward sexting, controlling for gender and age. We investigated separately the role of two different mediators: adolescents' perception of sexting as risky and adolescents' perception of sexting as fun and carefree. The sample consisted of 507 Italian adolescents aged 14–19. Results suggested that rules on content, parental knowledge, parental control and frequency of communication explained adolescent sexting attitudes or behaviours. Also, adolescents who reported a more favourable attitude toward sexting were more likely to engage in sexting. Results highlighted the fundamental role played by parents in shaping adolescents' sexting attitudes and behaviours and the importance of adolescents' attitude toward sexting in shaping sexting behaviours. Findings suggest that parents may play a pivotal role by resorting to effective parental practices of media-mediation and monitoring in order to guide and support their adolescent children in dealing with sexting. Introduction: Sexual behaviour needs to take a central position in the heart of public health policy makers and researchers. This is important in view of its association with Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), including HIV. Though the prevalence of HIV/AIDS is declining in Ethiopia, the country is still one of the hardest hit in the continent of Africa. Hence, this study was aimed at identifying hot spot areas and associated factors of risky sexual behavior (RSB). This would be vital for more targeted interventions which can produce a sexually healthy community in Ethiopia. Methods: In this study, a cross-sectional survey study design was employed. A further analysis of the 2016 Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey data was done on a total weighted sample of 10,518 women and men age 15–49 years. ArcGIS version 10.7 and Kuldorff's SaTScan version 9.6 software were used for spatial analysis. Global Moran's I statistic was employed to test the spatial autocorrelation, and Getis-Ord Gi* as well as Bernoulli-based purely spatial scan statistics were used to detect significant spatial clusters of RSB. Mixed effect multivariable logistic regression model was fitted to identify predictors and variables with a p-value ≤0.05 were considered as statistically significant. Result: The study subjects who had RSB were found to account about 10.2% (95% CI: 9.64%, 10.81%) of the population, and spatial clustering of RSB was observed (Moran's I = 0.82, p-value = 0.001). Significant hot spot areas of RSB were observed in Gambela, Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa. The primary and secondary SaTScan clusters were detected in Addis Ababa (RR = 3.26, LLR = 111.59, P<0.01), and almost the entire Gambela (RR = 2.95, LLR = 56.45, P<0.01) respectively. Age, literacy level, smoking status, ever heard of HIV/AIDS, residence and region were found to be significant predictors of RSB. Conclusion: In this study, spatial clustering of risky sexual behaviour was observed in Ethiopia, and hot spot clusters were detected in Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa and Gambela regions. Therefore, interventions which can mitigate RSB should be designed and implemented in the identified hot spot areas of Ethiopia. Introduction: The construct of collective intelligence assumes that groups have a better capacity than individuals to deal with complex, poorly defined problems. The digital domain allows us to analyze this premise under circumstances different from those in the physical environment: we can gather an elevated number of participants and generate a large quantity of data. Methods: This study adopted an emotional perspective to analyze the interactions among 794 adolescents dealing with a sexting case on an online interaction platform designed to generate group answers resulting from a certain degree of achieved consensus. Results: Our results show that emotional responses evolve over time in several phases of interaction. From the onset, the emotional dimension predicts how individual responses will evolve, particularly in the final consensus phase. Discussion: Responses gradually become more emotionally complex; participants tend to identify themselves with the victim in the test case while increasingly rejecting the aggressors. Most studies of sexting attempt to delineate its main characteristics, to define it and quantify its prominence and its effects. This article studies sexting within a specific ethnographic case. Based on an ethnographic case of a girl's nude picture being disseminated in a secondary school in the Netherlands, this paper argues that sexting is scripted through media and scientific reports, influencing the way it comes into being and is dealt with in practice. The script emphasizes the girls' responsibility in sending the picture, taking it to signal a lack of self-confidence, and emphasizes her guilt in its dissemination. On the other hand, it erases several elements, notably the different networks of friends that were tapped into by the actors, and the 'economy of pictures' that the picture was part of. Focusing extensively on the days immediately after the picture was spread, as well as on reflections on the event several months later, shows how the sexting script not only describes the phenomenon of sexting, but also prescribes how it is dealt with in practice, and, to a degree, how it produces sexting. Purpose: This study aims to examine whether and how the effect of intimate relationships with micro-influencers on customer behaviour is interrupted by external cues such as sponsorship disclosures and negative electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM). Design/methodology/approach: The study worked with Instagram micro-influences to conduct a vignette survey with four experimental scenarios. Findings: The benefits of parasocial relationships (PSR) in enhancing customer engagement (CE), brand preference (BP) and purchase intention (PI) cannot be sustained in the presence of external interruptive cues. For micro-influencers, whilst sponsorship disclosures do not moderate the influence of PSR, customers are considerably sensitive to negative eWOM or when the two cues co-occur. Originality/value: This study focusses on micro-influencers and investigates whether the follower–micro-influencer bond can be moderated by external cues including sponsorship disclosure and negative eWOM. Addressing sexting in sexual health education classrooms is one way of supporting young people to become good sexual citizens and to emphasise respect and consent in their sexual practices and in their lives. While a fair amount of research has worked with youth to understand their motivations for sexting, less research has been conducted with in-service teachers to understand their perspectives, pedagogical approaches, and beliefs regarding young people and sexting. Set in this context, this paper discusses findings from interviews with Canadian teachers who were teaching a new Ontario Health and Physical Education curriculum that included discussions of sexting. Our findings suggest that many teachers are still engaging discourses of risk, shame and blame when they talk to their students about sexting. Likewise, longstanding gender norms and stereotypical sexual scripts are evident in the ways in which many teachers both understand and teach sexting. Some teachers, however, are engaging in more promising pedagogical practices that frame sexting as having a range of uses, outcomes, and purposes, painting a more holistic picture of young people's sexting landscapes. This paper explores teenage girls' responses to general advice, and formal prevention messages, designed to reduce sexting-related risk and prevent harm. We conducted workshops with seven groups of girls (28 in total), aged 16–17 years, in a New Zealand city. Each group participated in a series of three workshop sessions. Drawing on a Freirean 'problem-posing' approach, we designed the workshops as spaces in which girls were invited to observe and critically discuss norms related to sharing nudes as well as harm prevention messages. Girls noticed the problematic gender and sexual politics that shape abstinence-based models that target girls (implicitly) to not send nudes, but which leave boys who distribute or otherwise misuse them out of the picture. Participants navigated a careful path between attending to risk and protection on the one hand, and endorsing their right to freedom of expression on the other. We argue for a subtle, but significant, shift away from a focus on sexting safety to a focus on the prevention of image-based sexual coercion, harassment and abuse. This reframing would help to direct prevention efforts to the gendered drivers and dynamics of harm perpetration, and the ways in which they are problematically socially ignored or condoned. Although the technical and psychological accuracy of the polygraph has been contested almost since the device's inception, it continues to enjoy substantial popularity within law enforcement and federal agencies throughout North America. This paper excavates the sexual politics of the polygraph focused on two key arenas where the polygraph has been a popular and powerful tool: identifying LGBTQ applicants and employees within federal agencies and determining parole for convicted sex offenders. Key questions guiding this analysis include the following: What are the relationships between the polygraph and disciplining sexual deviance? How does the polygraph fit within a larger history of surveilling and controlling sexual alterity? Drawing on theories of affect and spectacle, the paper unravels the polygraph's role as an accomplice to state-sanctioned projects of heteronormativity. Through analysis of training materials, practitioner memoirs, and policy guidelines, the polygraph is situated as an early precursor to surveillance infrastructure that attempts to identify, manage, and predict deviant sexuality. Different patterns of sexting behaviors were examined to provide a more nuanced understanding of the context in which sexting occurs among adolescents. Participants were 1,000 Canadian adolescents (50.2% girls) between 12 and 18 years (M age = 15.21, SD = 2.00) who completed measures of sexting, cyber bullying and victimization, problematic social media use, self-regulation, and demographics. Contrary to our hypotheses, three latent profiles of sexting represented the frequency of sexting rather than whether the sexting was consensual versus non-consensual or with a partner versus non-partner. Participants in the moderate and high sexting profiles representing one fifth of youth, reported less self-regulation, experienced more cyber victimization, and engaged in more cyber bullying and problematic social media use than those in the no/low sexting profile. Aim: Many adolescents with T1D experience a decline in metabolic control due to erratic eating habits and subpar adherence to treatment regimens. The objective of our retrospective observational study was to assess the effect of the Tandem Control IQ (CIQ) advanced hybrid closed-loop (AHCL) system on a cohort of adolescents with suboptimal glucose control. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 20 non-adherent patients with T1D, who were inconsistently using Multiple Daily Injections (MDIs) and flash glucose monitoring and were subsequently started and on CIQ. Glucometrics and the Glucose Risk Index were assessed at baseline and after 2 weeks, 1 month, and 6 months of CIQ use. Results: The study included 20 adolescents with T1D (HbA1c: 10.0% ± 1.7). Time in range (TIR) increased from 27.1% ± 13.7 at baseline to 68.6% ± 14.2 at 2 weeks, 66.6% ± 10.7 at 1 month, and 60.4% ± 13.3 at 6 months of CIQ use. Time above range (TAR) >250 mg/dL decreased from 46.1% ± 23.8 to 9.9% ± 9.5 at 2 weeks, 10.8% ± 6.1 at 1 month, and 15.5% ± 10.5 at 6 months of AHCL use. Mean glucose levels improved from 251 mg/dL ± 68.9 to 175mg/dL ± 25.5 after 6 months of CIQ use. The Glucose Risk Index (GRI) also significantly reduced from 102 to 48 at 6 months of CIQ. HbA1c also improved from 10.0% ± 1.7 at baseline to 7.0% ± 0.7 after 6 months. Two patients experienced a single episode of mild diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). Conclusions: AHCL systems provide a significant, rapid, and safe improvement in glucose control. This study analyzes how social pressure and excessive use of technology influence the emotional well-being of adolescents. The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between sexting behaviors and anxiety in adolescents. A sample of 100 male and female participants was taken, ranging in age from 12 to 18 years old. This study is a non-experimental quantitative approach, cross-sectional and correlational in scope. For the variables studied, the Behavioral Scale on sexting ECS adapted by Chacón-López et al. (2016) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) developed by Clark & Beck (2012) were used. To obtain the results, the Spearman correlation test was applied, finding that there was a slight positive correlation between anxiety and active disposition (Rho= 0.210 p<0.05), and participation (Rho= 0.225 p<0.05), but there was no relationship with emotional expression (Rho=0.061 p>0.05). These data allowed concluding that those who have an active disposition towards sexting and a greater participation in this practice tend to experience anxiety symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Harmful algal blooms (HAB) are natural environmental occurrences that can disrupt ecosystem function that supports fisheries and aquaculture, as well as rendering harvested seafood, especially shellfish, unsafe for consumption by humans or wildlife species. Many dinoflagellates that cause HAB have a life cycle with a sexually produced resting stage called the resting cyst. The resting cyst enables the species to persist in an area where conditions for growth vary seasonally. These species often are found as vegetative stages only during a short period of the year. Most of the time is spent dormant or quiescent as thick-walled resting cysts with very low metabolic activity. By summarizing findings from an iterative series of research projects investigating different parts of the sexual life cycle, a more complete picture of the role of the sexual stages emerges, illuminating the consequences of life cycle within the environmental context. Gametes, the sexual stages, are formed at the end of the growing season in response to environmental signals which remain largely unknown. Gametes have lower cell-specific density and different swimming behavior compared to vegetative cells. Specifically, vegetative cells perform daily vertical migrations; whereas, gametes accumulate in patterns influenced by lower cell-specific density, changed swimming behavior, and attraction to each other. The patterns and patches of accumulated gametes (sexually induced cells) aggregate into larger and larger patterns. Together with large-scale hydrographic water movements, such as upwelling, water stratification, and fronts, cells originating from a low vegetative cell density background distribution assemble and become concentrated within a constricted space, thus forming a dense "bloom." This process is distinctly different from the paradigm of blooms resulting from simple, vegetative cell divisions. Undisturbed blooms of cyst-producing dinoflagellate gametes end with gamete fusion into diploid zygotes that transform into resting cysts. The resting cysts sink according to shape and cell-specific density into the silt fraction of the sediment. Cyst preservation depends upon the oxygenation level of the sediment and the presence of fauna. Hypoxic/anoxic conditions lower cyst mortality from benthic grazers. The reestablishment of motile, vegetative cells occurs under seasonally favorable conditions, and successful population growth depends upon environmental conditions, such as weather and nutrient availability. Factors that increase HAB risks of resting cyst-producing dinoflagellates are eutrophication leading to high cell numbers and high cyst preservation in hypoxic benthic zones. Hydrographic factors causing increased cell accumulation also are important, and intensified water stratification can amplify encystment success. These insights underscore mechanisms by which climate change is affecting HAB ecology and subsequent effects upon marine and coastal fisheries and aquaculture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Restorative practices are gaining traction as alternative approaches to student conflict and harm in schools, potentially surpassing disciplinary methods in effectiveness. In the current article, we contribute to the evolving understanding of restorative practices in schools by examining qualitative responses from educators regarding restorative interventions for online-mediated conflict and harm, including cyberbullying and sexting. Participants include pre-service educators, as well as junior and senior teachers with varying levels of familiarity with restorative practices. Our findings highlight how educators who have implemented these practices largely hold positive perspectives of their effectiveness for resolving cyber conflicts and restoring a positive classroom environment. Educators emphasize the value of meaningful changes in student behaviour and acknowledge the potential of face-to-face mediation in mitigating online harm and promoting digital citizenship, though some educators raise questions about the appropriateness of restorative responses to serious incidents of online-mediated harm. This research offers fresh insights into the challenges and potential of restorative practices in schools, particularly in addressing cyber-based conflicts. We emphasize implementation challenges related to the distinct contexts in which schools operate and the influence of broader societal and systemic factors on the success of restorative practice initiatives. Young adults explore sexuality through social media, using smartphones to conduct their intimate social relationships. This includes sexting behaviors that may have negative repercussions, such as bullying or non-consensual dissemination of content. Our study examines the connections between emotion regulation, moral judgment, and sexting behavior (with instant messages) among young adults. We tested the research variables—sexting, emotional regulation, and moral judgment—in a sample population of 682 young Israeli adults, ages 18–25. The study's findings indicate that 45.9% of the sample population of young adults have sent sexual messages and 47.9% have received such messages. No disparities in sexting behavior were found between young men and young women. Higher use of sexting was found among those who were in an intimate relationship. Difficulty in emotion regulation was found to correlate with lower capacity for ethical/humane moral judgment, which in turn signaled a higher likelihood of sexting behavior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Contributing to the field of the geographies of digital sexualities, this article explores the geosocial dimensions of digital sexual cultures by analyzing three regionally operating, linguistically specific social media platforms devoted to sexual expression. Drawing on case studies of an Estonian platform used primarily for group sex, a Swedish platform for kink and BDSM, and a Finnish platform for nude self-expression, we ask how these contribute to and shape sexual geographies in digital and physical registers. First, we focus on the platforms as tools for digital wayfinding and hooking up. Second, we consider how the platforms help to reimagine and sexualize physical locations as ones of play, and how this transforms the ways of inhabiting such spaces. Third, we analyze how the platforms operate as sexual places in their own right, designed to accommodate certain forms of display, relating, and belonging. We argue, in particular, that these platforms shape how users imagine and engage with location by negotiating notions of proximity and distance, risk and safety, making space for sexual sociability. We approach geographies of sexuality both through the regional and linguistic boundaries within which these platforms operate, as well as through our participants' sense of comfort and investment in local spaces of sexual play. As sexual content is increasingly pushed out of large, U.S.-owned social media platforms, we argue that locally operating platforms provide a critical counterpoint, allowing for a vital re-platforming of sex on a regional level. Over the past two decades, technology-assisted child sexual abuse (TA-CSA) has become the focus of attention in politics, legislation, society, as well as research. However, the majority of literature and studies focus primarily on the offenders. This scoping review therefore aims to illustrate how victims of TA-CSA are represented in studies as primary participants. The databases Embase, PsychInfo, PSYNDEX, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science as well as reference lists were searched. Studies needed to be published between 2007 and 2021 and obtain data directly from and about victims to be included in this review. A total of 570 articles were identified from which 20 studies met inclusion criteria. The analysis showed that data can be obtained via different samples like adult and minor victims or other data such as legal documents or sexualized images. The studies researched different types of TA-CSA including exposure to pornographic material, online grooming leading to both online and offline sexual abuse, sexting and sexualized images, and the visual depiction of sexually explicit content. Consequences due to the abuse were of an emotional and psychological nature, medical or physical or impacted relationships, and the social environment. Even though the impact of the abuse on the victims appeared to be similar between different types of TA-CSA, much remains unknown. In order to gain further and more detailed insight into victims of TA-CSA, a universally accepted definition of TA-CSA as well as its different types and their distinctions needs to be established. Adolescence is a crucial period for identity formation and sexual exploration, and many adolescents turn to online media platforms to enhance this aspect of their lives. Given the interactive nature of these platforms, there is a possibility for adolescents to share sexual content. This study investigates the lived experiences of teenage girls regarding the consequences of sharing sexual content on social networks. Employing a qualitative method of descriptive phenomenology, this research focuses on understanding the multifaceted outcomes associated with the dissemination of sexual content in the sexually conservative culture of Iran. The participants comprised adolescent girls aged 16–19 residing in Tehran during the winter of 2023. A targeted sampling technique was employed, with data collection continuing until saturation was achieved. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, and data analysis was performed using the seven-step Claysey method. Through 12 interviews emerged 59 sub-codes, 14 main codes, and 4 core codes, encompassing the themes of need satisfaction, consequences within online relationships, interpersonal consequences, and social consequences. The findings of this study underscore the diverse consequences of sharing sexual content, influenced by cultural factors. These results aim to enhance parental awareness and support relevant professionals in safeguarding children and adolescents against potential stigma, trauma, and abuse. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Data from 484 emerging adults were used to explore sexting within current romantic partnerships. Drawing on recent studies and models of romantic relationship maintenance and behavioral intimacy, sexting was situated as a romantic relationship behavior with the expectation that it would be associated with partnership dynamics (i.e., positive interactions, negative interactions, and commitment). Just over half of emerging adults in the sample were sending sexts to their partners (52.9%). Similarly, 51.9% of them were receiving sexts from their partners. Finally, just under half (47.1%) of surveyed emerging adults were sending and receiving sexts. Most of the non-sexters, reported that they did not want to sext with their partners. There were small but statistically significant differences in partnership dynamics based on sexting behavior. In general, emerging adults who were sexting reported better partnership dynamics (i.e., more positive interactions and commitment) than emerging adults who were not sexting. Overall, sexting with romantic partners appears to be common, but there is a sizable minority of emerging adults who are not sexting and do not want to. Sex and relationship educators can play important roles in helping emerging adults be deliberate in their sexting decision-making, potentially increasing the likelihood that sexting will benefit emerging adults' romantic partnerships. Introduction: Online child sexual abuse (OCSA) affects considerable numbers of children globally and is associated with a variety of mental health problems. Existing practitioner studies suggest that young people are infrequently asked about online abuse and practitioners have a fragmented understanding of the problems experienced or how they might approach them. There are very few evidence-based interventions that guide clinical assessment or practice. Digital Health Interventions (DHIs) have the potential to be an effective option where children and young people's services are challenged, including accessibility and anonymity. The aim of this study was to explore mental health practitioners' views of how DHIs may play a role in supporting young people who have experienced OCSA, and the role they can play in healthcare delivery. Method: In-depth qualitative interviews and one focus group were conducted with 25 child mental health professionals across two sites (Manchester and Edinburgh). Data was analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Results: Three overarching themes and 9 sub-themes were identified: (1) feeling a little bit lost; (2) seeing potential problems; and (3) knowing what works. Practitioners expressed interest in a DHI to support this client group and saw it as a way of managing waiting lists and complementing existing therapies. They felt that many young people would see this as a preferred medium to inperson therapy, would be empowering, and offers new ways of learning how to stay safe online. However, there were concerns about how much time would be needed by staff to deliver a DHI, anxieties about safety issues in relation to content and data protection, some of which may be unique to this population of young people, and concerns about the absence of a therapeutic relationship with vulnerable children. Discussion: Our findings indicated that practitioners were uncertain about working with children subjected to OCSA but were receptive to the possibility of using a DHI to support their practice and to reduce waiting lists. Concerns were expressed about the time needed for staff training and support as well as concerns over patient safety and the lack of evidence about the effectiveness of an unsupported DHI.
