Abstract

In this paper, we revisit the data for the galaxy cluster ZwCl 0024.0+1652 provided by the GLACE survey and study the mass--metallicity function and its relationship with the environment. Here we describe an alternative way to reduce the data from OSIRIS tunable filters. This method gives us better uncertainties in the fluxes of the emission lines and the derived quantities. We present an updated catalogue of cluster galaxies with emission in H$\alpha$ and [N\,{\sc{ii}}] $\lambda\lambda$6548,6583. We also discuss the biases of these new fluxes and describe the way in which we calculated the mass--metallicity relationship and its uncertainties. We generated a new catalogue of 84 emission-line galaxies with reliable fluxes in [N\,{\sc{ii}}] and H$\alpha$ lines from a list of 174 galaxies. We find a relationship between the clustercentric radius and the density of galaxies. We derived the mass--metallicity relationship for ZwCl 0024.0+1652 and compared it with clusters and field galaxies from the literature. We find a difference in the mass--metallicity relationship when compared to more massive clusters, with the latter showing on average higher values of abundance. This could be an effect of the quenching of the star formation, which seems to be more prevalent in low-mass galaxies in more massive clusters. 16. Personal Management of Digital Information in University Students from a Gender Perspective

Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to delve into the process of personal management of digital information among Spanish university students in their final year and to analyze whether there are similarities or differences regarding students' gender. A non-experimental methodological design has been implemented of an exploratory type and based on a questionnaire as a single data collection instrument. The instrument was validated by means of experts' judgement, cognitive interview, and construct validity. A total of 2,054 students' surveys were collected, sourced from all areas of knowledge, in 75 public and private universities. These surveys made it possible to obtain information about the information search, selection, organization, processing, and creation processes. The results revealed that university students have a positive self-concept about their own competence for personal management of information. However, they fail to take advantage of all the possibilities that the digital world offers them. Women search the Internet for more diverse resources than men. They have better judgment when it comes to selecting and processing the information they need. Male students rely more often than female ones on digital mediums when organizing and creating information and choose to publish the information in less complex and more popular formats than their female counterparts. The conclusions of the present study match those of the majority of reviewed studies, namely regarding the organization of information, contextual and social factors which influence the management of information, such as third-party support, and also in relation to the increasing implementation of digital technologies in information management processes.

Abstract

Quantile Regression (QR) provides a way to approximate a single conditional quantile. To have a more informative description of the conditional distribution, QR can be merged with deep learning techniques to simultaneously estimate multiple quantiles. However, the minimisation of the QR-loss function does not guarantee non-crossing quantiles, which affects the validity of such predictions and introduces a critical issue in certain scenarios. In this article, we propose a generic deep learning algorithm for predicting an arbitrary number of quantiles that ensures the quantile monotonicity constraint up to the machine precision and maintains its modelling performance with respect to alternative models. 44. Methodology for Building Virtual Reality Mobile Applications for Blind People on Advanced Visits to Unknown Interior Spaces

Abstract

Virtual reality applications for blind people in smartphones were used to make virtual visits in advance to unknown spaces; these need to include a set of cognitive and sensitive interfaces that allow users to use their other sensory capabilities to understand information about their environment and facilitate the interaction with the application, so that the user can make a mental representation of the unknown space. Some strategies were designed to provide continuous and clear information to the user, so that he can perform exploration activities within a virtual environment generated from a real environment with the help of nineteen blind people and five visually impaired people who participated in the development and tests carried out into six workshops, during twenty-four months. During each workshop took logs about the activities that the user did for the recognized and location of objects and structures indoors. This information was stored in a database to be analyzed and interpreted in order to make subsequent modifications to the application, until achieving a tool that is sufficiently useful, safe and accepted for the user. The last applications were built with voice patterns, beeps, vibrations and gestures called sensitive interfaces, and also with a cognitive interface called "Focus of attention" based on proximity and remote exploration. There was a thirty-eight percent of improvement when the participants chose to remote explore the virtual environment with regard to proximity exploration, also there was preference to be warned with low to medium frequency beeps, a fast reproduction of the voice to receive information on objects and structures and simple gestures for the interaction with Smartphone. In the last experience, we used a structure sensor coupled to the Smartphone for user tracking, and bone conduction headphones to reproduce spatial sounds; they said it was pleasing to hear 3D sounds with personalized response in bone earphones, for locating objects inside the test scenario; there was a twenty-one percent of improvement with the participants using beeps instead of vocals or musical instruments. Abstract

In regression tasks, aleatoric uncertainty is commonly addressed by considering a parametric distribution of the output variable, which is based on strong assumptions such as symmetry, unimodality or by supposing a restricted shape. These assumptions are too limited in scenarios where complex shapes, strong skews or multiple modes are present. In this paper, we propose a generic deep learning framework that learns an Uncountable Mixture of Asymmetric Laplacians (UMAL), which will allow us to estimate heterogeneous distributions of the output variable and shows its connections to quantile regression. Despite having a fixed number of parameters, the model can be interpreted as an infinite mixture of components, which yields a flexible approximation for heterogeneous distributions. Apart from synthetic cases, we apply this model to room price forecasting and to predict financial operations in personal bank accounts.
