Objectives Design Methods Results Conclusions Whilst cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) is increasingly used as an indirect intervention, there is little evidence of how the approach can be applied to reflective practice. This study sought to develop a process model of cognitive analytic reflective practice (CARP) groups.Constructivist grounded theory approach supplemented by quantitative measures of helpfulness and group cohesion.Twenty‐four participants, working within four staff teams in a secure children's home, attended four CARP groups over a 1‐year period. Sessions were audio recorded, transcribed and checked for model fidelity and then analysed using grounded theory. Theoretical sampling was achieved via conducting focus groups with teams informed by the emergent categories, and using sessional measures of group cohesion and helpfulness to confirm theoretical saturation.The model constructed had three interrelated main categories: ‘facilitator processes: establishing a reflective space’, ‘group processes: widening awareness of the self, others, and system’ and ‘outcomes: changing relational dynamics and finding exits.’ The model was validated by evidence from the measures.The model offers an empirical understanding of how CAT informs reflective practice through a better understanding of reciprocity in the dynamics of care systems. Muscle spindles are stretch‐sensitive mechanoreceptors found in the skeletal muscles of most four‐limbed vertebrates. They are unique amongst sensory receptors in the ability to regulate their sensitivity by contraction of the intrafusal muscle fibres on which the sensory endings lie. Muscle spindles have revealed a remarkable diversity of functions, including reflex action in posture and locomotion, contributing to bodily self awareness, and influencing wound healing. What were the circumstances which gave rise to the evolution of such complex end‐organs? We argue that spindles first appeared in early amniotes and only later in frogs and toads. This was considered an example of convergent evolution. Spindles in amphibians and reptiles are characterised by their simple structure, pointing to key features essential for spindle function. Spindle sensitivity in amphibians and reptiles is controlled by intrafusal fibre contractions evoked by branches of motor axons supplying extrafusal muscle. Modern phylogenetic evidence has revised our views on the origin of birds, placing them closer to the dinosaurs than had previously been thought. Birds are the only group, other than mammals, which has a dedicated fusimotor innervation of spindles, another example of convergent evolution, given the widely different origins of the two groups. One factor that may have played a role here was that both groups are endotherms, allowing motor control to develop further in an optimal internal environment. Over the course of his research, Endel Tulving offered a number of somewhat different characterizations of episodic memory. Do they indicate that he changed his mind over time as to what episodic memory is, or did his core understanding of the nature of episodic memory stay the same? In this article, we offer some support for the latter claim, and in particular for thinking that, throughout his life, Tulving took as a defining feature of episodic memory the distinctive awareness of the self in time it involves. We argue that it is easier to see the continuities rather than the discontinuities in Tulving's writings once their historical context is taken into account, where this involves both the authors who influenced his thinking, as well as the intellectual climate at the different times he was writing. We also discuss two recent bodies of work on episodic memory that take aspects of Tulving's writings as their point of departure, but try to factor out into separate ingredients what he arguably saw as a unitary phenomenon. Considering aspects of the dialectic between them and Tulving's view might shed further light on some of the motivations behind the latter. Context: The ballet institution is known for its aesthetic and performative standards. In professional dancers' everyday lives, self-improvement and body awareness entwine with striving for artistic excellence. In this context, 'health' has primarily been explored in relation to eating disorders, pain, and injuries. Aim: This paper explores dancers' health practices, namely how they are shaped by the ballet institution and how they relate to broader health discourses. Methodology: A reflexive thematic analysis was conducted upon interviews with nine dancers (each interviewed twice) using a theoretical framework based on the concepts of greedy institutions and biopedagogies. Analyses: Two themes were developed: What it takes to be an 'insider' of the ballet institution and Learning to develop an acute embodied self-awareness. Dancers described ballet as a 'lifestyle' rather than a 'job'; practices of self-care defined by continuous self and body work were framed as necessary to meet the demands of this lifestyle. Participants 'played with' institutional and societal norms, often resisting docile bodies promoted within the ballet institution. Conclusion: Dancers' constructions of health and the art of ballet as not fitting neatly into 'good' nor 'bad' make room to consider the tensions between adopting and resisting dominant health discourses in this institution. OBJECTIVE: As pediatric mortality improves, approaches to pediatric critical care now focus on understanding long-term implications of survivorship on patients and families. We aimed to characterize how patients recall time spent sedated and recovering to identify areas for improvement in patient outcomes. METHODS: We undertook qualitative analysis using semistructured interviews of pediatric patients requiring extra-corporeal support in our intensive care units from 2018 to 2023. All patients were English-speaking, >12 years old at time of hospitalization, and able to communicate at an age-appropriate level. Priority sampling was given to those with more recent hospitalizations to improve recall. Interviews were recorded and transcribed before thematic, inductive analysis. RESULTS: Forty-one patients met inclusion criteria; 14 patients were enrolled before achieving thematic saturation. Several themes emerged, centering on cognitive, physical, and socioemotional experiences during and after hospitalization. Notable findings include profound awareness under sedation, impaired sleep, challenges with communication, physical discomfort, frustration with activities of daily living limitations, and gratitude for provider and family presence. Postdischarge, patients highlighted persistent memory, concentration, sleep, and physical impairments, as well as emotional processing of their illness and mortality. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings describe how pediatric critical illness impacts short and long term cognitive, physical, and socioemotional outcomes for children in the ICU. Future research is necessary to study if there are specific, modifiable factors in patients' care that impacts their experience of critical illness, such as specific medication choices, diagnoses, communication styles, or physical and speech therapy interventions. Topics include the coexistence of human and machine entities, the critique of traditional humanist ideals, and the evolution of artificial intelligence toward self-awareness and independence.

Purpose: Therapeutic alliance (TA) is critical to rehabilitation outcomes for adults with acquired brain injuries (ABIs). The purpose of this viewpoint article is to review factors that contribute to TA and to suggest ways speechlanguage pathologists (SLPs) can integrate these factors into their ABI rehabilitation practice. Method: We evaluated literature describing client and clinician factors shown to affect—or not affect—TA in ABI rehabilitation and mapped findings onto suggested practices that SLPs may use to actively promote TA with their clients. Informed by our findings and TA frameworks, we integrated findings into a novel clinician self-reflection tool: the Therapeutic Alliance Reflection Checklist. Conclusions: TA is a key ingredient in ABI rehabilitation. We contend that SLPs can, and should, actively facilitate TA with clients; the self-reflection checklist can assist. We advocate for continued TA research and improved measurement across rehabilitation settings. It has been through my work interviewing and working with survivors in various settings: research and educational ones-in which there are many "off the record" conversations-that have taught me something that interviews don't usually offer; what it means to live with and negotiate the past. They have also taught me that while some survivors feel an urgent imperative to transmit memory, there is a gnawing self-consciousness as to how their words will be received. It has been argued that testimonies humanize and individualize the suffering of the victims and survivors, both during the Holocaust and in their postwar lives. However, through my own work interviewing survivors, I now understand that it is our conversations together that humanize the survivors. Sadly, it is these "off the record" conversations that are not recorded in the massive corpus of archived testimonies, and our ability to have them that is receding. In this presentation I will reflect on these "off the record conversations" and what they have taught me in the hope that I will understand the survivors, their lives, and their testimony and recounting a little more. Increased conscious movement monitoring and control can impair sports performance. Recent evidence indicates it might facilitate stopping motor actions. To further investigate, we asked novices to putt balls, but they needed to stop promptly while an auditory cue appeared during the downswing. They also completed the Movement Specific Reinvestment Scale, which measures movement self-consciousness (MS-C) and conscious motor processing, indicating the degree of inclination for conscious movement monitoring and control, respectively. Individuals with high MS-C displayed higher stopping rates but longer stopping time. Further exploration suggests that they were more likely to make slow downswings, allowing successful but late stops. We conclude that increased conscious movement monitoring may affect movement execution in such a way that it affords better stopping of ongoing motor actions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the impact of leadership development programmes, underpinned by Transformational Learning Theory (TLT). Design/methodology/approach: A corpus-informed analysis was conducted using survey data from 690 participants. Data were collected from participants' responses to the question "please tell us about the impact of your overall experience", which culminated in a combined corpus of 75,053 words. Findings: Findings identified patterns of language clustered around the following frequently used word types, namely, confidence; influence; self-awareness; insight; and impact. Research limitations/implications: This in-depth qualitative evaluation of participants' feedback has provided insight into how TLT can be applied to develop future health-care leaders. The extent to which learning has had a transformational impact at the individual level, in relation to their perceived ability to influence, holds promise for the wider impact of this group in relation to policy, practice and the promotion of clinical excellence in the future. However, the latter can only be ascertained by undertaking further realist evaluation and longitudinal study to understand the mechanisms by which transformational learning occurs and is successfully translated to influence in practice. Originality/value: Previous research has expounded traditional leadership theories to guide the practice of health-care leadership development. The paper goes some way to demonstrate the impact of using the principles of TLT within health-care leadership development programmes. The approach taken by The Florence Nightingale Foundation has the potential to generate confident leaders who may be instrumental in creating positive changes across various clinical environments. AbstractOnline interactions have become an essential but understudied aspect of our social lives. The current research investigates self-view in video-based interactions, a key difference from face-to-face interactions. Using computer vision techniques for automated gaze analysis, we assessed the relative frequency with which individuals in online interactions gaze at themselves and investigated its links to personality characteristics. We hypothesized that self-referent gaze frequency may indicate participants’ public and private self-awareness and explored correlations with the Big Five and narcissism. We included trait and state measures from self- and other-reports. Surprisingly, self-referent gaze was not reliably related to these variables. We discuss the relevance of these findings for challenging common beliefs about the diagnostic value of self-referent gaze behavior in online interactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Being able to robustly interact with and navigate a dynamic environment has been a long-standing challenge in intelligent transportation systems. Autonomous agents can use models that mimic the human brain to learn how to respond to other participants' actions in the environment and proactively coordinate with the dynamics. Modeling brain learning procedures is challenging for multiple reasons, such as stochasticity, multimodality, and unobservant intents. Active inference may be defined as the Bayesian modeling of a brain with a biologically plausible model of the agent. Its primary idea relies on the free energy principle and the prior preference of the agent. It enables the agent to choose an action that leads to its preferred future observations. An exploring action-oriented model is introduced to address the inference complexity and solve the exploration–exploitation dilemma in unobserved environments. It is conducted by adapting active inference to an imitation learning approach and finding a theoretical connection between them. We present a multimodal self-awareness architecture for autonomous driving systems where the proposed techniques are evaluated on their ability to model proper driving behavior. AbstractThis study aimed to identify occupational recovery processes involved in overcoming ADHD-related occupational challenges. Content analysis of 30 interviews revealed changes between the past and the present in: (a) occupational gaps – inconsistencies between occupational intentions and outcomes; (b) occupational choices – factors involved in the processes of choosing to participate in occupations; and (c) regulation of occupational efforts - in terms of intensity and duration. Findings illuminate change-promoting processes in the behaviors or perceptions of persons with ADHD regarding their occupational involvement. Identifying these processes could serve to develop interventions aimed at promoting occupational change among adults with ADHD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a view on bodily IEM by describing, first, the structure that grounds need to have in order to yield IEM judgments, and then arguing that somatosensation has this structure. I make my case by presenting an analysis of the sense of bodily ownership. According to this analysis, there is a substantive explanatory relationship between bodily self-consciousness and psychological self-consciousness. I argue that one central virtue of this approach to bodily self-consciousness is that, not only does it help explain bodily IEM, but it also sheds some light on the fact that both psychological and bodily self-ascriptions are subject to analysis in IEM terms, despite their differences. In 2022, South Africa (SA) had the second-highest HIV incidence rate among adolescents worldwide. This study's participants were boys living in SA aged 15–19 years old, in a current dating or sexual relationship, and diagnosed with HIV before the age of 10. Despite the launch of campaigns to spread awareness of Undetectable equals Untransmittable (U = U), our findings showed that a significant number of adolescents living with HIV do not demonstrate an understanding of the concept. This highlights the importance of integrating U = U messaging in ongoing conversations with healthcare workers given the potential positive impact on adolescent wellbeing, transmission risk perception, and safer sexual practices. Therapeutic Communication is a form of treatment process by professional health service personnel on patients suffering from a certain disease, by staying in a certain inpatient room according to the type of disease they are experiencing, inpatient facilities are provided and run systematically by medical and non-medical personnel, provided by health service providers. Self-aware therapeutic communication aims for patient healing. Therefore, it is necessary to know how nurses understand the meaning and importance of therapeutic communication itself, because this understanding can affect the quality of therapeutic communication provided by nurses. The quality of therapeutic communication can be determined from the service felt by the patient and the level of satisfaction felt by the patient. The research design uses a qualitative research method with 11 samples. This study aims to determine the application of therapeutic communication in the inpatient room of Awal Bros Hospital Pekanbaru. The results of the study show that the communication between nurses and patients has gone well. This study aimed to examine the effects of school principals' distributed leadership behaviors and teachers' self-awareness on school effectiveness through the mediating role of democratic practices and attitudes towards sustainable development in schools. Accordingly, an integrative model was created. The study data were analyzed using structural equation modeling and bootstrapping tests. The analysis results confirmed that organizational democracy played a prominent mediating role between school principals' distributed leadership practices and teachers' perceptions of school effectiveness. We also found evidence for the effects of school principals' distributed leadership behaviors and teachers' self-awareness on school effectiveness through the mediating role of teachers' attitudes towards sustainable development. We concluded that school principals' distributed leadership practices could enhance school effectiveness through teachers' perceptions of organizational democracy and attitudes towards sustainable development in schools. Besides, a high-quality educational environment and school effectiveness could be promoted by increasing teachers' self-awareness and attitudes towards sustainable development. Background: The phenomenon of the māhū and raerae of French Polynesia represents a long-standing historical recognition of a third gender status that makes space for a level of respect and integration within a broader society. Raerae is a more recent type of māhū who more overtly express themselves as women in society. Aim: This article describes the gender identity, gender expression, sexual behavior, and sexual orientation of gender diverse individuals in French Polynesia, including the Society, Tuamotus, and the Marquesas Islands. By studying cultures with protective factors, this research seeks to contribute to the development of effective approaches to sexual and gender health promotion, including HIV/STI prevention. Method: Our analysis is based on ethnographic work, field observation, in depth interviews, and survey data. The focus of this study was specifically on the māhū and raerae (gender diverse individuals). Results: We collected data from ten islands in French Polynesia and included 47 participants. The results include demographics, information about self-identification, gender identity development and family and social acceptance, current gender identity, expression, early and current sexual experiences, relationships, involvement in sex work, and health status, including HIV risk and status. Conclusion: While not a utopia for gender variant individuals living in French Polynesia, this cultural recognition serves as a protective factor as compared to other cultures that greatly stigmatize transgender and gender diverse individuals or those who transgress socially defined roles for men. There is growing recognition internationally of the prevalence and impact of female-perpetrated child sexual abuse (CSA). Prior research has indicated gender-specific offending pathways and motivations for women involved in this crime, bringing into question whether there is a need for tailored offense--specific interventions and whether these would increase treatment efficacy for this population. Using data collected across three Australian jurisdictions, this study used a mixed-methods design to explore the perceptions of correctional practitioners (n = 44) and justice-involved women currently serving a sentence for CSA (n = 18) on accessibility and demand for offense-specific correctional programs, and perceived benefits of such programs. Results indicate substantial support from practitioners (93.18%) and justice-involved women (100%) for the development of offense-specific interventions, despite there currently being few opportunities to access such interventions within correctional settings in Australia. A range of perceived benefits of such programs were indicated by both sample populations, namely, that targeted support would likely reduce the risk of recidivism by promoting greater self-awareness and improvement, peer support, and future-focused planning. Findings highlight a significant practice gap in correctional treatment and underscore the current demand for offense-specific interventions to improve outcomes for women who perpetrate CSA. Located within feminist scholarship on sport, leisure and physical cultures, this article explores our attempts to understand what conducting 'research with responsibility' means as White, settler-coloniser, immigrant women researching surfing, place and community in Aotearoa New Zealand. Taking inspiration from Hamilton's 'intersectional reflexivity' and Māori feminist scholars' discussion of (de)colonizing methodologies, we discuss the development of our intersectional, collaborative methodology to understand our relationships to place, community and surfing. This co-ethnographic approach helped us navigate the ethics and challenges of knowledge production in Aotearoa New Zealand, and enabled us to be aware of, and open to, different worldviews and ways of knowing. We argue this methodology has value in developing better recognition of our own privileges; understanding of the intersectional politics-of-place we are part of as researchers, and as community members; and of the assumptions, motivations and values that inform our research practices. Impostor Syndrome is the belief or feeling that one is passing oneself off as much more capable than one really is. Anecdotally, it is experienced more by members of historically disadvantaged groups, but the empirical data seems inconsistent with this view. I argue that impostor syndrome occurs because (a) it is normal, appropriate and often even necessary to engage in some degree of pretense in order to acquire specialist expertise, but (b) we are much more likely to be aware of our own pretense than that of others. I argue that we are especially likely to notice pretense when we're made self-conscious, and that failing to match the stereotype of one's profession or domain of expertise tends to give rise to self-consciousness. Self-consciousness is elicited by certain cues; this fact explains not only the greater vulnerability of the members of some groups to it, but also explains why the empirical data has not yet provided evidence for this greater vulnerability. Some have argued that a subject has an inner awareness of its conscious mental states by virtue of the non-introspective, reflexive awareness that any conscious state has of itself. But, what exactly is it like to have a ubiquitous and reflexive inner awareness of one's conscious states, as distinct from one's outer awareness of the apparent world? This essay derives a model of ubiquitous inner awareness (UIA) from Sebastian Watzl's recent theory of attention as the activity of structuring consciousness into an experiential center and periphery. I develop Watzl's theory into an account of UIA by suggesting that a subject is acquainted with its own conscious mental states through being reflexively aware of how these states are structured by attention into a unified subjective perspective. I favorably compare this Watzl-inspired account of UIA against other contemporary analytic and classical Buddhist accounts of reflexive awareness and subjective character, which variously ground the inner awareness of conscious states on their intrinsic phenomenal quality of 'for-me-ness', their affective/hedonic valence, or a subject's disposition to introspect them. The Watzl-inspired account also accommodates possible counter-examples to Watzl's theory posed by states of minimal phenomenal experience such as lucid dreamless sleep and non-dual meditative awareness. Engaging in critical reflection can assist nurses to provide the high-quality, person-centred care required to meet those needs, support older people to retain their independence and enhance their well-being. This article discusses critical reflection within the context of nursing older people and describes various models that can be used to support the reflective process. The authors use a practice example to illustrate how using critical reflection in practice can enable nurses to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and use what they have learned to enhance their delivery of person-centred care. Background: Prior studies suggest that lower levels of mindfulness contribute to the motivation of using alcohol to cope with distress. Research examining this possibility is scarce or limited to alcohol, but not marijuana, related outcomes. Objectives: We examined separate models (for alcohol and for marijuana) to determine the associations between trait mindfulness (describing, acting with awareness, non-judging, non-reactivity) and alcohol and marijuana outcomes (use indicators and negative consequences) via emotional psychopathology (i.e., a latent variable assessing symptoms of depression and anxiety) and alcohol/marijuana coping motives. Results: The final analytic sample consisted of 456 participants (Mean age = 22.96 ± 3.12 years; 66.2% women) for the alcohol model; and 232 participants (Mean age = 22.96 ± 3.01 years; 66.2% women) for the marijuana model. Two path models were conducted, such that indirect paths were examined for each trait mindfulness facet on alcohol/marijuana outcomes (e.g., describing → emotional psychopathology → alcohol coping motives → binge drinking frequency). Within the comprehensive alcohol model, describing, acting with awareness, non-judging and non-reactivity were associated with less binge drinking frequency and lower number of alcohol-related negative consequences via lower severity of emotional psychopathology symptoms and lower endorsement of drinking to cope motives. For the marijuana model, describing, acting with awareness, and non-judging of inner experience were associated with less marijuana quantity (grams) consumed and lower number of marijuana-related negative consequences via lower severity of emotional psychopathology symptoms and lower endorsement of marijuana coping motives. Conclusions: Prevention and intervention programs of alcohol and marijuana in Argentina may benefit from improving mindfulness skills and targeting emotional psychopathology and motives to use drugs, to prevent or reduce negative drug-related consequences. The article is my ASHE Presidential Address from 2013 – it has not been substantially revised or updated. It is a reflective piece on my journey in academia, with a particular focus on the role of personal identity in research. The piece begins by discussing my initial belief in the importance of maintaining objectivity in research by distancing personal identity from my work. This belief was rooted in the traditional academic notion that research should be "objective" and "distanced." My position, however, evolved as I came to realize that my positionality was not objective but was instead problematic. This realization was not immediate but was the result of years of reading, studying, and being influenced by other scholars. In this piece I share an "aha moment" that greatly influenced my professional and personal life. This moment led to a significant shift in my approach to research, making privilege and awareness central to my work. The essay includes not only my perspectives on this matter, but also those of my colleagues in the field in the form of data as well as vignettes. The paper concludes by encouraging other academics to acknowledge their personal identities and experiences as fundamental parts of academic discourse – to engage in me-search. Purpose: Anterior drooling is a common comorbidity in children and young people (CYP) with neurodevelopmental disabilities. This study aimed to assess the social and emotional impact of drooling in CYP with a developmental age (DA) of 6 years and older, in whom this impact may differ from those with a lower DA due to their developing sense of self and awareness of their position within social groups. Methods: Questionnaire data collected for routine clinical care were used to assess parental perceptions of the impact of drooling on (1) social interaction; (2) satisfaction with social interaction, appearance, family relations and life in general and (3) the way CYP expressed feelings on appearance, acceptance by peers and acceptance by adults. Fisher's exact tests and Mann–Whitney U tests were applied to identify associations between clinical characteristics and the social and emotional impact of drooling. Results: Seventy-nine CYP with an estimated DA ≥ 6 years were included. The majority experienced frequent to constant (83%) and profuse (61%) drooling. Drooling frequently compromised social interaction with peers (49%) and adults (28%), and cognitive abilities were underestimated in 40%. Dissatisfaction with physical appearance (25%) related to drooling was noted. One-fifth of CYP reportedly expressed negative feelings on acceptance by peers related to drooling. Conclusions: These findings underscore the substantial impact of drooling on CYP with a DA of 6 years and older, primarily through avoidance by peers and underestimated cognitive abilities, emphasizing that recognizing and addressing these social-emotional consequences should be integral to clinical care. What is Known: • Anterior drooling is common among children and youth with neurodevelopmental disabilities. What is New: • There seems to be a heightened prevalence of impaired social interaction with peers and underestimation of cognitive abilities due to drooling among children with a developmental age of at least 6 years compared to previous studies with more heterogeneous populations. • The impact of drooling can extend to domains that affect self-esteem, although this may not be fully captured with standardized questions, requiring clinicians to address these consequences in a way that is tailored to the child's experiences. Purpose: This study aims to describe the current conceptualisation of self-management of dementia by family carers in the literature and from the views of dementia professionals and family carers, and to establish a more comprehensive concept of self-management of dementia by family carers. Design/methodology/approach: A hybrid concept analysis included three phases: the theoretical phase reviewed the literature on self-management of dementia by family carers; the fieldwork phase interviewed professionals and family carers; and the analytical phase synthesised and discussed the findings from the previous two phases. Findings: The findings revealed that self-management of dementia by family carers encompasses four domains: supporting care recipients, self-care, sustaining a positive relationship with care recipients, and personal characteristics and skills. Originality/value: The findings highlighted the essential elements of the construct of self-management of dementia by family carers. Introduction: Academic achievement is one of the most important variables in determining educational outcomes and success outside of school. This study is about the relationship between selfawareness as part of socio-emotional learning and its implications on students' academic achievement among O-level students in secondary schools in Kyabugimbi Sub County. Objectives: The study sought to examine the relationship between self-awareness and students' academic achievement among O-level students in secondary schools in Kyabugimbi Sub County. Methodology: A cross-sectional study design was used where data was collected at a single point in time. The study population comprised of 2,682 students in S1-S3 in six secondary schools in Kyabugimbi Sub County. The sample size comprised of 235 students. Data was collected using a self-administered close-ended questionnaire and analyzed by generating inferential statistics. Findings: The study findings show a strong positive significant relationship (r=0.681**; p<0.05) between self-awareness and students' academic achievement among O-level students in secondary schools. Conclusions and recommendations: The study concludes that selfawareness is one of the critical aspects for socio-emotional learning that play a significant role towards the students' academic achievement. The study recommends policymakers to prioritize selfawareness programs in schools, integrating self-awareness activities into the school curriculum, training teachers to help students develop self-awareness and educating parents on fostering the importance of self-awareness needs of their children at home. Most traditional marketers avoid using mindful consumption (MC) despite fast-rising consumer mindfulness, MC-advocation by trade magazines, and the success of tech-savvy, MC-oriented start-ups. We identify two gaps for this divergence—varying conceptions of MC and lack of a valid MC scale. Conception clarity and a valid MC scale are important for advancing managerial practice. We first integrate current, varying conceptions to identify three MC dimensions: Awareness, Caring, and Temperance. These signify awareness of self, society, and the environment (SSE), caring for the effects of consumption on SSE, and temperance in consumption. We then develop, refine, and validate the MC scale using 10 studies. We also assess the MC nomological network and scale robustness across genders, ages, occupations, and incomes. Marketers can use MC scale for product innovation, differentiation, and diversification. Policymakers can use this to nudge people towards MC-oriented sustainable behavior. Aim: This cross‐sectional study investigates the factors that contribute to academic resilience among nursing students during COVID‐19 pandemic. Design: A cross‐sectional study. Methods: A survey was conducted in a general hospital between November and December 2022. The Nursing Student Academic Resilience Inventory (NSARI) model was used to assess the academic resilience of 96 nursing students. The Boruta method was then used to identify the core factors influencing overall academic resilience, and rough set analysis was used to analyse the behavioural patterns associated with these factors. Results: Attributes were categorised into three importance levels. Three statistically significant attributes were identified ("I earn my patient's trust by making suitable communication," "I receive support from my instructors," and "I try to endure academic hardship") based on comparison with shadow attributes. The rough set analysis showed nine main behavioural patterns. Random forest, support vector machines, and backpropagation artificial neural networks were used to test the performance of the model, with accuracies ranging from 73.0% to 76.9%. Background: Neck self-awareness, related to sensorimotor dysfunction, can be monitored with the Fremantle Neck Awareness Questionnaire (FreNAQ). The cross-cultural adaptation of the FreNAQ in Greek (FreNAQ-GR) and an assessment of its psychometric properties were conducted. Methods: This study included 104 participants (65 female) with non-specific chronic neck pain (NSCNP). Once the cross-cultural adaptation process of the FreNAQ-GR was complete, the testing of its construct validity was conducted via an exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The construct validity examination also included a correlational analysis with a Pain Intensity Visual Analogue Scale (PI-VAS), the Neck Disability Index (NDI), the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK), the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), and demographics. The internal consistency of the FreNAQ-GR was also examined. A sub-sample of participants (n = 30) completed the FreNAQ-GR again after 5–7 days. Results: The dataset was appropriate for EFA (measure of sampling adequacy KMO = 0.763 and Bartlett's test of sphericity p < 0.001). The FreNAQ-GR demonstrated a single-factor 6-item structure (items 7–9 removed), explaining 53.69% of the common variance. Statistically significant correlations (Spearman's) were registered between the FreNAQ-GR (both versions) and the NDI (r = 0.33/0.29, p < 0.001), the TSK (r = 0.46/0.41, p < 0.001), and the PCS (r = 0.37/0.33, p < 0.001). For the 9-item and the 6-item FreNAQ-GR, the internal consistency (Chronbach's a/McDonald's ω) was 0.80/0.79 and 0.826/0.816, respectively. The test–retest reliability was excellent for both versions ICC2,1 (95% CI) = 0.98/0.98 (0.97–0.99/0.95–0.99), with low error values SEM = 0.90/0.74 and MDC95% = 2.49/2.05 points. This study aimed to measure the level of self-awareness among university faculty members, considering various demographic variables such as gender, academic specializations, and experience. The research was conducted on a sample of faculty members from four universities in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE): two from Jordan and two from the UAE. A sample of 172 faculty members was selected using an appropriate non-probability sampling technique. The researchers invited the entire study sample to participate in the self-awareness scale (SAS), developed using a translated Arabic version. The study found that the level of self-awareness among the sample was moderately average, with a mean score of 3.54. Additionally, according to the survey, there were no discernible gender disparities in self-awareness among university faculty members. However, there were statistically significant differences among faculty members in the sub-dimensions of realistic caution and self-reflection based on the experience variable, favoring faculty members with 11 or more years of experience. Significant differences were also observed in realistic awareness and indifference to external cues among faculty members specializing in humanities and social sciences compared to those in other specializations. The concept of mindfulness within the contemporary mindfulness movement was the subject of a recent phenomenological critique. The present article confronts that critique in order to develop a phenomenologically viable interpretation of mindfulness that corresponds with how the word sati is used in the Pāli suttas. By clarifying the distinction between intentional objects and intentional acts, it can be shown that mindfulness was not originally conceived of as an exercise in focusing on a meditation object, but as reflexive self-awareness. Consequently, it is wrong to describe mindfulness as ‘bare attention’. Mindfulness was originally a philosophical enterprise, an attitude that can be cultivated only when one is attending to things while remaining aware of the broader context. Furthermore, an ordinary person (puthujjana) cannot cultivate what the Buddha called ‘right mindfulness’ (sammāsati). Our objective was to understand how empathy and self-awareness content, alongside traditional deescalation training, might impact ambulatory clinic staff responses to patient and family escalation events. Verbal and physical workplace violence is escalating across healthcare organizations, including ambulatory clinics. Deescalation content is often developed with acute care, psychiatric, or emergency care in mind. There is a need for relevant and empathic deescalation training for ambulatory clinic staff to address their specific needs. We developed empathic and self-reflective deescalation training which was interactive and relevant to ambulatory clinic staff. Staff were trained using both in-person and virtual modalities. Participant self-reflection pre- and postintervention questionnaires indicated increases in understanding and application of deescalation methodologies. Multiple ambulatory clinics where staff participated saw a decrease in patient complaints and grievances. Participating ambulatory clinics also saw an improvement in the likelihood to recommend practice. However, participating ambulatory clinics did not see a reduction in reported patient-involved workplace violence events. Ensuring both empathy and self-awareness content in deescalation training, along with relevant ambulatory clinic scenarios, support ambulatory staff to respond effectively and appropriately to escalation events, helps reduce patient complaints, and improves patient satisfaction. Burnout among psychotherapists is a pervasive challenge affecting both professional well-being and client care. This study aims to explore the experience of burnout among integrative psychotherapists and examine the strategies they employ to cope with this phenomenon. Interviews were conducted with 17 integrative psychotherapists, and the data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's six-step thematic analysis. Through this analysis, two themes were identified: (1) work-related pressures and burnout manifestations and (2) strategies for maintaining optimal functioning. Fatigue, headaches, challenges in decision-making or session planning, numbness in the form of paralysis, and disconnection from clients emerged as primary symptoms, impacting therapeutic efficacy. Participants' intense sense of responsibility toward clients and their self-worth validation through client progress intensified burnout risks, particularly among novices. Personal therapy and clinical supervision emerged as pivotal in mitigating burnout, offering support, and enhancing therapist resilience. Additionally, peer support and organizational interventions were deemed crucial during crises, emphasizing the need for structured support systems within professional bodies. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of burnout in psychotherapy and highlight the need for targeted interventions to enhance professionals' resilience and sustain effective client outcomes. Background: The aim of the research is to shed light on the experiences of a group of nursing students enrolled in a yoga elective course who practiced yoga regularly for 14 weeks, regarding yoga and the phenomenon of doing yoga, with a qualitative approach. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted at a public university in Izmir, Turkey. The study sample consisted of 61 students enrolled in the 1st-year yoga course at the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences. Except for two students, 59 of them participated in the study. Participants attended a face-to-face yoga course once a week for 1.5 h over a 14-week period. Each session comprised 30 min of theoretical instruction and 60 min of practice. In data collection, an interview form containing five questions was used to understand nursing students' experiences and thoughts about practicing yoga. In addition, A4 sized papers in different colors were presented to the participants. The participants were asked to draw and/or cut a shape by choosing the paper in the color that most evokes yoga. Then they were asked to explain why they chose this color and why they drew this shape. Participants were given one hour. After the data were collected, the pictures drawn by the participants and their descriptions of their drawings were transferred to the computer and included in the analysis. Qualitative data were hand-coded by the researchers. Within in-vivo coding, code names were formed from the participants' expressions. The findings analyzed by content analysis were interpreted with the literature under the themes by presenting quotations. Results: It was determined that the participants used nature figures (sun, cloud, tree, sky, flower) (f = 75), people doing yoga (f = 12), and sound, light and other figures (bird sound, wave sound, candle, light bulb, traffic light, heart, eye, left key, peace, swing, India, circle, etc.) (f = 29) in the shapes they drew and cut out on A4 sized papers in different colors to describe their experiences and thoughts about practicing yoga. The participants mostly chose blue-green-yellow colors (n = 41). With qualitative question analysis, a list of codes was created from the answers given by the students to the questions for the phenomenon of "doing yoga" (number of codes = 98). After the analysis of the data, four categories were reached. The category names and frequency numbers explaining the phenomenon of practicing yoga were distributed as "symbol of health and serenity (f = 345)", "the way to place goodness in your heart (f = 110)", "the most effective way to meet the self (f = 93)" and "no guarantee of relaxation (f = 71)", respectively. Conclusions: The results indicate that yoga is perceived by nursing students as a multifaceted practice that evokes a range of emotional and physical responses. Most participants associate yoga with symbols of health, serenity, and self-awareness, often using natural elements and blue-green-yellow the colors to represent these feelings. However, there is also recognition that yoga may not guarantee relaxation for everyone, as some students reported difficulties in meditation, physical discomfort, and challenges in focusing. The study highlights the variability in how individuals experience yoga, emphasizing both its positive effects on well-being and the potential challenges in practice. These findings suggest that while yoga is widely valued for its calming and health-promoting benefits, it may not be universally effective in achieving relaxation or mindfulness. This essay examines the combination of an aesthetic interest in the book with metafiction’s self-reflexive literary strategies in two recent British fictions, Steven Hall’s Maxwell’s Demon (2021) and Nicola Barker’s I Am Sovereign (2019). Both fictions, I argue, engage in what I describe as “metabibliographic fiction.” Metabibliographic fictions are fictions that explore the intellectual, narrative, and aesthetic dimensions of metafiction, but do so in ways that incorporate forms of self-reference into their linguistic and graphic structures that engage with the book as a media device. Situating this work within the context of what N. Katherine Hayles terms “postprint,” the essay places metabibliographic fiction at the critical intersection of textual materialism, studies of bookishness, and taxonomies of aesthetic self-consciousness. It then analyzes metafictional and metabibliographic devices in Maxwell’s Demon and I Am Sovereign in order to open theories of the contemporary book to metafiction’s narrative and intellectual legacies. Anti-Blackness and heteronormativity are the driving forces that determine access to reproductive healthcare and services in the United States, and the rate of Black birthing-related deaths continue to skyrocket. Still, there is a dearth of literature that includes the reproductive experiences of Black birthing people and their interactions with the healthcare system. This current study builds power with 10 Black Queer birthing people (or Partners) by centering on their gestation-based storytelling within discourse about reproduction. By blending these Partners' self-examination of their lived experiences with gestation with health research, Black feminism, and researcher interpretation of their stories, this study reveals the unparalleled truths of Black Queer reproduction. Six thematic areas within the healthcare system as experienced by Partners are explored. Additionally, through this disruptive approach, this study identifies the lived and material needs that necessitate reproductive justice for all. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Students must cultivate resilience and emotional intelligence to thrive in nursing school. Resilience enables one to endure and function normally amid tough situations, and emotional intelligence heightens empathy, understanding, and regard for others. Research indicates that nursing students are better equipped to successfully navigate academic and clinical rigor when both traits are present. Therefore, this review aims to identify interventions in the literature that enhance resilience and emotional intelligence in nursing students. Method: Using PRISMA guidelines, a search was conducted to explore research on resilience and emotional intelligence in nursing and health science students in the United States within the past five years. Results: Levels of resilience and emotional intelligence increase most when interventions are employed. Increases in resilience and emotional intelligence did not occur naturally; instead, in some cases, both characteristics decreased. Conclusion: Non-optional environmental changes and mindfulness interventions embedded in nursing curriculums enhance resilience and emotional intelligence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Gratitude, defined by many as being thankful and appreciative of things that make life and relationships meaningful and purposeful, catalyzes holistic well-being. It is considered a manifestation of both inner and outer spirituality and develops spiritual growth. In this article, twenty-three students from a large public university in the U.S. representing various faith traditions explore the practice of gratitude as spirituality and its impact on well-being. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how gratitude, also conceptualized and articulated by college students as spirituality, influences students' well-being. By exploring common and unique themes based on students' individual reflections and synthesis on their weekly journal entries on the topic of gratitude as spirituality toward well-being, students assert that first, practicing gratitude enables them to experience something of the essence of spirituality, which is about interconnectedness and bringing into focus the things in life that they must be contented with and happy about. Second, expressing gratitude helps shift students' perspectives by looking at conflict more as an opportunity for growth and constructive change than anything else. It redirects their mindset to transforming conflict's negative and destructive energies into something beneficial, although the process might seem difficult. Third, practicing gratitude improves students' overall mental, physical, spiritual, and social well-being. It helps them develop a sense of empathy and understanding toward others and aids them with better communication, deeper connections, and awareness of the self and their surroundings. This article concludes that there is, indeed, a dynamic interplay between gratitude and spirituality regarding students' well-being. The article recommends that academic institutions and teachers of higher education provide students with classroom and public spaces to integrate conversations around gratitude, spirituality, and well-being into their academic studies as this helps enrich students' overall learning experiences. The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the role of attachment styles and emotional selfawareness in explaining the moral intelligence of adolescents. The research method was correlational. The statistical population of this research consists of first-year high school students who were studying in the academic year 2019-2020. A total of 200 students were selected using available sampling methods. Research tools included the emotional self-awareness questionnaire (Grant et al., 2002); attachment style (Hazan & Shaver, 1987); and moral intelligence (Lenink & Keel, 2011). Questionnaires were provided to students online. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean & standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Spearman's correlation) with the help of SPSS software version 22. The results of the research showed that the variables of avoidant attachment style (β = -0.195, p < 0.001), secure attachment style (β = 0.407, p<0.001), and the total score of emotional self-awareness (β = 0.438, p>0.033) had an effective and significant role in explaining moral intelligence and other research variables did not have an effective and significant role. Inspired by critical trauma and embodiment theories, this study aims to illustrate how an arts-based approach such as body mapping assists in exploring the lived experiences of youth, potentially serving as a trauma-informed approach. This qualitative study collaborated with street-involved and homeless youth (SIHY) who have eating struggles while living in situations of food insecurity and other forms of oppression. Eleven participants partook in three individual face-to-face interview sessions and one arts-based body map activity, respectively, at a local SIHY resource centre in a metropolitan city in Canada. Guided by Interpretative Phenomenological Approach (IPA), our findings illustrated how body mapping (1) enabled a deepened understanding of SIHY's eating struggles as both a form of suffering and an embodied means of coping with food insecurity and other systemic and relational trauma(s); (2) provided a transformative experience leading to greater self-compassion and healing; and (3) served as a trauma-informed method that fostered choice and validation. We attest that, as a creative and supportive clinical and research tool, body mapping taps into the unspoken, expressive, embodied, and somatic aspects of eating struggles, food insecurity, poverty, and other forms of oppression deepening knowledge and informing social work research and practice. In competitive sport environments, coaches and sport psychology practitioners work to optimize individual and team performance. One strategy identified as a key to optimal sport performance is athlete self-awareness. This study evaluated the efficacy of a novel, online post-event reflection (PER) tool. Using a mixed methods design, 22 members of a competitive women's ice hockey team completed the PER across one season. The PER demonstrated efficacy through tailored insight used as a basis for athlete discussions, complementing other performance-related feedback. Follow-up interviews with three team members and the head coach provided additional support for the efficacy of the PER. Background and Objectives This study examined the psychometric properties and measurement invariance of the 10-item Awareness of Age-Related Change Short Form (AARC-SF) questionnaire in a Chinese-speaking sample of older adults in Taiwan. Research Design and Methods Data from 292 participants (M age = 77.64 years) in the Healthy Aging Longitudinal Study in Taiwan cohort were used for Study 1, whereas data from young-old adult samples in Germany were used for Study 2. Results Study 1 showed that the AARC-SF had satisfactory reliability and validity for assessing adults' AARC in Taiwan. Analyses confirmed the 2-factor structure of AARC-gains and AARC-losses. Study 2 demonstrated strong measurement invariance across men and women, whereas direct comparisons of the item scores between young-old adults and old-old adults need to be made with caution. Noninvariance of loadings indicated that certain items were more closely linked to AARC-gains and AARC-losses in Taiwan than in Germany. Noninvariance of intercepts suggested potential biases in comparing item scores between Taiwanese and German older adults. Discussion and Implications The AARC-SF emerged as a reliable and valid instrument for capturing positive and negative subjective aging experiences among Taiwanese older adults. However, it is noteworthy that some items on the AARC-SF may solicit different responses from individuals of different ages and different countries of origin, requiring caution with age group and cross-cultural comparisons.
