We use a functional renormalization group (fRG) approach to investigate potential interaction-induced instabilities in a two-dimensional model for the Dirac nodal-line materials ZrSiS and ZrSiSe employing model parameters derived from {\it ab initio} calculations. Our results confirm that the excitonic instability recently found in random-phase approximation for ZrSiS is indeed the leading instability. In the simplest modeling, spin- and charge-excitonic states are degenerate. Beyond this, we show that the fRG analysis produces an energy scale for the onset of the instability in good agreement with the experimentally observed mass enhancement. Additionally, by exploring the parameter space of the model we find that reducing the band splitting increases the instability scale and gives the chance to drive the system into an unconventional superconducting pairing state. The model parameters for the case of the structurally similar material ZrSiSe suggest the $d$-wave superconducting state as the leading instability with a very small critical scale., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate whether low HL is associated with obesity, diabetes, and hypertension, considering them as one cluster.Methods: We used data from the Hamburg Diabetes Prevention Survey, a population-based cross-sectional study in Germany. The 1349 eligible subjects were 18– 60 years old. The European Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q16) was used to assess HL. Depending on the reported number of metabolic syndrome conditions (CMS), four groups were categorized as follows: “ 0”, any “ 1”, any “ 2” and “ 3” CMS. Ordered logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between HL level (independent variable) and the reported number of CMS (dependent variable) adjusted for age, gender and education.Results: 63.9% of subjects (n=862) reported having “ 0”, 25.7% (n=346) only “ 1”, 8.2% (n=111) only “ 2” and 2.2% (n=30) “ 3” of the three CMS. In the group with sufficient HL, rates of “ 1,” “ 2,” or “ 3” CMS were lower than in the group with problematic or inadequate HL. Subjects with inadequate HL showed a 1.62-fold higher risk of having a higher number of CMS than subjects with sufficient HL (OR 1.62; 95% CI 1.13 to 2.31). The risk increased with each life year (OR 1.05; 95% CI 1.04 to 1.06), and was higher in persons with low education (OR 2.89; 95% CI 2.08 to 4.01) than in highly educated persons. Women showed lower risk (OR 0.73; 95% CI 0.58 to 0.91) than men.Conclusion: Lower HL was associated with a higher number of MS conditions. Our findings suggest that HL intervention on health-promoting behaviors could help reduce MS risk in people with limited HL.Keywords: diabetes, overweight, health literacy intervention

This document contains information supplementary to the article [1], but it is self-contained and can be read independently as a pedagogical review. In the first part, we explain our conventions for the tight-binding description of electronic states on the hexagonal Bravais lattice in two dimensions. We derive the Rashba spin splitting from elementary symmetry conditions, and subsequently construct a minimal tight-binding model which displays Rashba spin splitting near the center of the Brillouin zone. Furthermore, we derive the corresponding symmetry conditions for a two-particle interaction in a second-quantized framework. In the second part, we describe our conventions for the temperature Green functions, in terms of which the renormalization group equations in [1] have been formulated. The functional renormalization group (RG) in combination with Fermi surface patching is a well-established method for studying Fermi liquid instabilities of correlated electron systems. In this article, we further develop this method and combine it with mean-field theory to approach multiband systems with spin-orbit coupling, and we apply this to a tight-binding Rashba model with an attractive, local interaction. The spin dependence of the interaction vertex is fully implemented in a RG flow without SU(2) symmetry, and its momentum dependence is approximated in a refined projection scheme. In particular, we discuss the necessity of including in the RG flow contributions from both bands of the model, even if they are not intersected by the Fermi level. As the leading instability of the Rashba model, we find a superconducting phase with a singlet-type interaction between electrons with opposite momenta. While the gap function has a singlet spin structure, the order parameter indicates an unconventional superconducting phase, with the ratio between singlet and triplet amplitudes being plus or minus one on the Fermi lines of the upper or lower band, respectively. We expect our combined functional RG and mean-field approach to be useful for an unbiased theoretical description of the low-temperature properties of spin-based materials., Comment: consistent with published version in Physical Review B (2016)

Data on the level of continuity of care in the ambulatory setting in Switzerland are lacking.Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate continuity of care in Swiss cancer patients based on routine data of mandatory health insurance using four established continuity scales.Methods: Retrospective analysis of Swiss claims data (N=23ʹ515 patients with incident use of antineoplastics). The Usual Provider Continuity score, the Modified Modified Continuity Index, the Continuity of Care index, and the Sequential Continuity Index were analyzed based on consultations with general practitioners (GPs), physician specialists and ambulatory hospital wards.Results: Using information of health insurance claims, the number of consultations and the general level of continuity of care in Swiss cancer patients are high. Continuity of care scores were significantly associated with sociodemographic and regional factors. When focusing on consultations with GPs only, all four scores consistently showed high values indicating high levels of continuity. Continuity with general practitioners was associated with lower costs and lower risks for hospitalization and death.Conclusion: This is the first study giving insight into continuity of care in Swiss cancer patients. The present study shows that continuity of care is measurable using health insurance claims data. We present an analytical model for the theoretical analysis of spin dynamics and spontaneous symmetry breaking in a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). This allows for an excellent intuitive understanding of the processes and provides good quantitative agreement with experimental results in Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 135302 (2010). It is shown that the dynamics of a spinor BEC initially prepared in an unstable Zeeman state mF=0 (|0>) can be understood by approximating the effective trapping potential for the state |+-1> with a cylindrical box potential. The resonances in the creation efficiency of these atom pairs can be traced back to excitation modes of this confinement. The understanding of these excitation modes allows for a detailed characterization of the symmetry breaking mechanism, showing how a twofold spontaneous breaking of spatial and spin symmetry can occur. In addition a detailed account of the experimental methods for the preparation and analysis of spinor quantum gases is given., Comment: 12 pages, 14 figures

Parametric amplification of quantum fluctuations constitutes a fundamental mechanism for spontaneous symmetry breaking. In our experiments, a spinor condensate acts as a parametric amplifier of spin modes, resulting in a twofold spontaneous breaking of spatial and spin symmetry in the amplified clouds. Our experiments permit a precise analysis of the amplification in specific spatial Bessel-like modes, allowing for the detailed understanding of the double symmetry breaking. On resonances that create vortex-antivortex superpositions, we show that the cylindrical spatial symmetry is spontaneously broken, but phase squeezing prevents spin-symmetry breaking. If, however, nondegenerate spin modes contribute to the amplification, quantum interferences lead to spin-dependent density profiles and hence spontaneously-formed patterns in the longitudinal magnetization., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Spin-changing collisions may lead under proper conditions to the parametric amplification of matter waves in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates. Magnetic dipole-dipole interactions, although typically very weak in alkaline atoms, are shown to play a very relevant role in the amplification process. We show that these interactions may lead to a strong dependence of the amplification dynamics on the angle between the trap axis and the magnetic-field orientation. We analyze as well the important role played by magnetic-field gradients, which modify also strongly the amplification process. Magnetic-field gradients must be hence carefully controlled in future experiments, in order to observe clearly the effects of the dipolar interactions in the amplification dynamics.

We investigate the phase diagram of two-component fermions in the BCS-BEC crossover. Using functional renormalization group equations we calculate the effect of quantum fluctuations on the fermionic self-energy parametrized by a wavefunction renormalization, an effective Fermi radius and the gap. This allows us to follow the modifications of the Fermi surface and the dispersion relation for fermionic excitations throughout the whole crossover region. We also determine the critical temperature of the second order phase transition to superfluidity. Our results are in agreement with BCS theory including Gorkov's correction for small negative scattering length a and with an interacting Bose gas for small positive a. At the unitarity point the result for the gap at zero temperature agrees well with Quantum-Monte-Carlo simulations while the critical temperature differs., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, minor change in figures 2 and 3 (correction of axis label)

Parametric amplification of vacuum fluctuations is crucial in modern quantum optics, enabling the creation of squeezing and entanglement. We demonstrate the parametric amplification of vacuum fluctuations for matter waves using a spinor F=2 Rb-87 condensate. Interatomic interactions lead to correlated pair creation in the m_F= +/- 1 states from an initial unstable m_F=0 condensate, which acts as a vacuum for m_F unequal 0. Although this pair creation from a pure m_F=0 condensate is ideally triggered by vacuum fluctuations, unavoidable spurious initial m_F= +/- 1 atoms induce a classical seed which may become the dominant triggering mechanism. We show that pair creation is insensitive to a classical seed for sufficiently large magnetic fields, demonstrating the dominant role of vacuum fluctuations. The presented system thus provides a direct path towards the generation of non-classical states of matter on the basis of spinor condensates., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We analyze the spinor dynamics of a Rb-87 F=2 condensate initially prepared in the m_F=0 Zeeman sublevel. We show that this dynamics, characterized by the creation of correlated atomic pairs in m_F=+/-1, presents an intriguing multi-resonant magnetic field dependence induced by the trap inhomogeneity. This dependence is directly linked to the most unstable Bogoliubov spin excitations of the initial m_F = 0 condensate, showing that, in general, even a qualitative understanding of the pair creation efficiency in a spinor condensate requires a careful consideration of the confinement., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Therefore, the aim of the study was to uncover health-related lifestyle behaviors (HLB) and age-related comorbidities which may predict, influence and prevent pain in old age.Patients and methods: In this longitudinal cohort study, data were obtained initially from 3.327 individuals aged 75+ from over 138 general practitioners (GP) during structured clinical interviews in 2003. Nine follow-ups (FU) were assessed until 2017. Available data from 736 individuals scoring in FU3 and FU7 were included in this analysis. Data were assembled in an ambulatory setting at participant’s homes. Associations were tested using a linear regression model (model 1) and ordered logistic regression model (model 2).Results: Statistical analyses revealed increased likelihood to experience pain for participants with comorbidities such as peripheral arterial disease (PAD) (coef. 13.51, P>t = 0.00) or chronic back pain (CBP) (coef. 6.64, P>t = 0.003) or higher body mass index (BMI) (coef. 0.57, P>t = 0.015) and, female gender (coef. 6.00, SE 3.0, t = 2.02, P>t = 0.044). Participants with medium education and former smokers showed significantly lower pain rating (coef. −5.05, P>t = 0.026; coef. −5.27, P>t = 0.026). Suffering from chronic back pain (OR = 2.03), osteoarthritis (OR = 1.49) or depressive symptoms (OR = 1.10) raised the odds to experience impairments in daily living due to pain. Physical activity showed no significant results.Conclusion: Chronic conditions such as PAD, or CBP, female gender and higher BMI may increase the risk of experiencing more pain while successful smoking cessation can lower pain ratings at old age. We present a detailed analysis of the production efficiency of weakly bound heteronuclear KRb-Feshbach molecules using radio frequency association in a harmonic trap. The efficiency was measured in a wide range of temperatures, binding energies and radio frequencies. A comprehensive analytical model is presented, explaining the observed asymmetric spectra and achieving good quantitative agreement with the measured production rates. This model provides a deep understanding of the molecule association process and paves the way for future experiments which rely on Feshbach molecules e.g. for the production of deeply bound molecules., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

The effect of particle-hole fluctuations for the BCS-BEC crossover is investigated by use of functional renormalization. We compute the critical temperature for the whole range in the scattering length $a$. On the BCS side for small negative $a$ we recover the Gorkov approximation, while on the BEC side of small positive $a$ the particle-hole fluctuations play no important role, and we find a system of interacting bosons. In the unitarity limit of infinite scattering length our quantitative estimate yields $T_c/T_F=0.264$. We also investigate the crossover from broad to narrow Feshbach resonances -- for the later we obtain $T_c/T_F=0.204$ for $a^{-1}=0$. A key ingredient for our treatment is the computation of the momentum dependent four-fermion vertex and its bosonization in terms of an effective bound-state exchange., Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures. We consider fermion-dimer scattering in the presence of a large positive scattering length in the frame of functional renormalization group equations. A flow equation for the momentum dependent fermion-dimer scattering amplitude is derived from first principles in a systematic vertex expansion of the exact flow equation for the effective action. The resummation obtained from the nonperturbative flow is shown to be equivalent to the one performed by the integral equation by Skorniakov and Ter-Martirosian (STM). The flow equation approach allows to integrate out fermions and bosons simultaneously, in line with the fact that the bosons are not fundamental but build up gradually as fluctuation induced bound states of fermions. In particular, the STM result for atom-dimer scattering is obtained by choosing the relative cutoff scales of fermions and bosons such that the fermion fluctuations are integrated out already at the initial stage of the RG evolution., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures, references added, discussion improved

Bearing in mind that the quality of generic products should be similar, it could be questioned if differences in patient preferences evaluated as sales could be related to differences on their pharmaceutical properties. The aims of this work were to study the variability on the pharmaceutical characteristics of marketed bioequivalent tablet formulations and its impact on patient preferences. Methods: Thirty-six batches corresponding to fourteen different generic products were chosen among the best-selling products of the Spanish market in the years 2011 and 2015 and were compared to the reference product. The effect on patient preferences of six variables was studied through a multivariate analysis. The first two variables were marketing characteristics: 1) years in the market and 2) the number of other generic products marketed by the same manufacturer, which could be related to the size and service provided by the manufacturer. The other four variables studied were pharmaceutical tablet properties: 3) mean weight, 4) hardness, 5) disintegration, and 6) dissolution. A multiple linear regression analysis was performed to identify the effect on sales of the six variables studied. Results: The disintegration time was the most significant (P=0.018) factor affecting the sales of Ibuprofen tablets which may be related to the onset of action. Conclusion: The faster the tablet disintegration, the higher its sales. Two possible explanations are suggested: 1) the most specialized ibuprofen tablet manufacturer considers fast disintegration as a key parameter and/or 2) habitual consumers of ibuprofen can detect small differences on the onset of action among different marketed formulations.
