Pure [Na.sub.0.44]Mn[O.sub.2] samples are prepared using a solid-state route by carefully tuning the synthesis conditions. The analysis has shown that the insertion process within the [Na.sub.[x.sup.-]]Mn[O.sub.2] system is fully reversible and that HCl treatment has a detrimental effect on the electrochemical properties due to structural and textural evolutions.

International audience; The VLT/SPHERE instrument includes a unique long-slit spectroscopy (LSS) mode coupled with Lyot coronagraphy dedicated to the spectral characterization of directly imaged giant exoplanets. The performance of this mode is limited by its non-optimal coronagraph, but in a previous work we demonstrated that it could be significantly improved at small inner-working angles using the stop-less Lyot coronagraph (SLLC). A prototype of the SLLC was installed in VLT/SPHERE in 2014 during the reintegration of the instrument in Paranal, and it was extensively tested in 2015 to characterize its performance. The performance is tested in both imaging and spectroscopy using data acquired on the internal source of SPHERE. In imaging, we obtain a raw contrast gain of a factor 10 at 0.3" with the SLLC. We also demonstrate that no Lyot stop is required to reach the full performance, which validates the SLLC concept. Comparison with a realistic simulation model shows that we are currently limited by the internal phase aberrations of SPHERE. In spectroscopy, we obtain a gain of 1 mag in a limited range of angular separations. Simulations show that although the main limitation comes from phase errors, the performance in the non-SLLC case is very close to the ultimate limit of the LSS mode. We present the very first on-sky data with the SLLC, which appear extremely promising for the future scientific exploitation of an apodized LSS mode in SPHERE. Finally, we explore a new possibility for the speckle subtraction in the LSS mode that could significantly improve the data analysis with respect to methods based on spectral differences.

The hydrolytic enzymes β-1,3-glucanases (EC3.2.1.39) an known to be involved in plant defense reactions against pathogens and in developmental events. We have obtained two partial cDNA clones, corresponding to Vitis vinifera β-1,3-glucanase gene sequences (VvGlu1/7 and VvGlu26). The expression of VvGlu1/7 was studied in grape berries at different developmental stages and in wounded berries with or without salicylic acid elicitation. No constitutive expression was observed in young berries, whereas the induction of VvGlu1/7 transcription was detected during fruit ripening. cited By 8; International audience; This work sheds light on the exceptional robustness of anatase TiO 2 when it is downsized to an extreme value of 4â €‰nm. Since at this size the surface contribution to the volume becomes predominant, it turns out that the material becomes significantly resistant against particles coarsening with temperature, entailing a significant delay in the anatase to rutile phase transition, prolonging up to 1000â €‰°C in air. A noticeable alteration of the phase stability diagram with lithium insertion is also experienced. Lithium insertion in such nanocrystalline anatase TiO 2 converts into a complete solid solution until almost Li 1 TiO 2, a composition at which the tetragonal to orthorhombic transition takes place without the formation of the emblematic and unwished rock salt Li 1 TiO 2 phase. - Abstract
The European Space Agency's Planck satellite, launched on 14 May 2009, is the third-generation space experiment in the field of cosmic microwave background (CMB) research. It will image the anisotropies of the CMB over the whole sky, with unprecedented sensitivity (${{\Delta T}\over T}$ ~ 2 × 10-6) and angular resolution (~5 arcmin). Planck will provide a major source of information relevant to many fundamental cosmological problems and will test current theories of the early evolution of the Universe and the origin of structure. It will also address a wide range of areas of astrophysical research related to the Milky Way as well as external galaxies and clusters of galaxies. The ability of Planck to measure polarization across a wide frequency range (30-350 GHz), with high precision and accuracy, and over the whole sky, will provide unique insight, not only into specific cosmological questions, but also into the properties of the interstellar medium. This paper is part of a series which describes the technical capabilities of the Planck scientific payload. It is based on the knowledge gathered during the on-ground calibration campaigns of the major subsystems, principally its telescope and its two scientific instruments, and of tests at fully integrated satellite level. It represents the best estimate before launch of the technical performance that the satellite and its payload will achieve in flight. In this paper, we summarise the main elements of the payload performance, which is described in detail in the accompanying papers. In addition, we describe the satellite performance elements which are most relevant for science, and provide an overview of the plans for scientific operations and data analysis.

42. Ag6Mo2O7F3Cl: A New Silver Cathode Material for Enhanced ICD Primary Lithium Batteries

- Abstract
As a potential cathode material for the ICD lithium battery, one advantage of Ag6Mo2O7F3Cl (SMOFC) is its enhanced gravimetric capacity of ca.133 mAh/g above 3 V (vs Li+/Li) delivered by two biphasic transitions at 3.46 and 3.39 V (vs Li+/Li). The unique crystal structure of SMOFC enables a high silver ion conduction: σ⊥[001]= 3.10−2S/cm (±2.10−2S/cm) and σ//[001]= 4.10−3S/cm (±2.10−3S/cm) and, hence, an excellent discharge rate capability. Lithium insertion has been monitored by in situXRD measurements with HRTEM investigations. There is a linear isotropic collapse of the structure leading to a fully amorphous structure beyond four inserted lithiums.

International audience; SPHERE is an instrument aimed to the search for low mass companions around young stars in the solar neighborhood. To achieve this goal light from the host star (and in particular the speckle pattern due to the telescope aberrations) should be strongly attenuated while avoiding to cancel out the light from the faint companion. Different techniques can be used to fulfill this aim exploiting the multi-wavelength datacube produced by the Integral Field Spectrograph that is one of the scientific modules that composes SPHERE. In particular we have tested the application of the Spectral Deconvolution and of the Principal Components Analysis techniques. Both of them allow us to obtained a contrast better than 10-5 with respect to the central star at separations of the order of 0.4 arcsec. A further improvement of one order of magnitude can be obtained by combining one of these techniques to the Angular Differential Imaging. To investigate the expected performance of IFS in characterizing detected objects we injected in laboratory data synthetics planets with different intrinsic fluxes and projected separations from the host star. We performed a complete astrometric and photometric analysis of these images to evaluate the expected errors on these measurements, the spectral fidelity and the differences between the reduction methods. The main issue is to avoid the strong self-cancellation that is inherent to all the reduction methods. We have in particular tested two possible solutions: the use of a mask during the reduction on the positions of the companions or, alternatively, using a KLIP procedure for the IFS. This latter seems to give better results in respect o the classical PCA, allowing us to obtain a good spectral reconstruction for simulated objects down to a contrast of ~10-5.

International audience; The near-infrared imager and spectrograph IRDIS is one of the three science sub-systems of VLT/SPHERE dedicated to the detection and characterization of giant exoplanets at large orbital radii. It offers a wide range of observational modes including dual-band imaging (DBI) with very low differential aberrations, and long slit spectroscopy (LSS) coupled with a classical Lyot coronagraph at low (R = ~50) and medium (R = ~330) resolution. Over the course of 2012 and 2013, IRDIS has been extensively tested in laboratory during the integration and optimization of the SPHERE system. At the beginning of 2014, the instrument has been shipped to Chile and has been reintegrated at the Paranal observatory. We present here a detailed summary of the performance of the DBI and LSS modes obtained in laboratory. We provide a wide range of results covering different observing conditions and setups for the DBI mode, and we show that the instrument reaches the technical specifications in terms of contrast. We also identify some of the limitations that prevent going down much further in contrast while testing in the laboratory. For the LSS mode, we present results obtained both at low and medium resolution in the main setups that will be offered to future users. We demonstrate that the LSS mode will provide a useful characterization tool for the planets detected in DBI mode. Finally, we present the first results obtained on-sky during the first commissioning run of SPHERE at the VLT.

Abstract: Background and Aims: Laccase enzymes produced by
Botrytis cinerea are involved in the oxidation of phenolic substances during the development of grey mould, which causes significant economic losses. The aim of this work was to study the structural and activity characteristics of the laccase enzymes secreted by three B. cinerea strains that are involved in the development of grey mould. Methods and Results: Laccase enzymes obtained from three B. cinerea strains [one reference strain (B05.10) and two strains obtained from two French vineyards (VA612 and RM344)] were characterised. Analysis by LC‐QTOF‐MS revealed that the three strains contained a mixture of Laccase‐2‐BcLCC2 and Laccase‐3‐BcLCC7. The structural characteristics of the laccases from the three strains, such as molecular weight and glycosylation degree, were identical. Nevertheless, their catalytic activities were significantly different. Conclusions: Differences in catalytic activities could be due either to possible differences in the relative amount of Laccase‐2‐BcLCC2 and Laccase‐3‐BcLCC7 produced by each strain or to differences in the glycosidic fraction of the enzymes. Significance of the Study: The severity of the infection caused by B. cinerea may be not only related to the infection level but also to the strain involved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published
