Abstract

International audience; In the region around 132Sn, the structure of even-even nuclei demonstrates diverse phenomenon including the transition between some typical quadrupole collective states. The doubly magic isotopic chain of Sn-isotopes seems to be the most interesting mass-region to be studied. Several theoretical and experimental studies have been focused in this mass region, recently [1]. The low-lying spectroscopy of these nuclei is one of the most powerful sources of information about nuclear shapes and shape transitions. Experimental/adopted B(E2↑) values for this mass-region are depicted in Fig. 1.

Abstract

The electromagnetic structure of 140Sm was studied in a low-energy Coulomb excitation experiment with a radioactive ion beam from the REX-ISOLDE facility at CERN. The 2+ and 4+ states of the ground-state band and a second 2+ state were populated by multistep excitation. The analysis of the differential Coulomb excitation cross sections yielded reduced transition probabilities between all observed states and the spectroscopic quadrupole moment for the 2+ 1 state. The experimental results are compared to large-scale shell model calculations and beyond-mean-field calculations based on the Gogny D1S interaction with a five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian formalism. Simpler geometric and algebraic models are also employed to interpret the experimental data. The results indicate that 140Sm shows considerable γ softness, but in contrast to earlier speculation no signs of shape coexistence at low excitation energy. Abstract

A complementary experiment was performed at the Heavy Ion Laboratory in Warsaw to assign spins for non-yrast states using the angular correlation technique. Based on the new experimental data previous spin assignments need to be revised.

Abstract

Low-lying excited states of 104Pd were investigated by means of Coulomb excitation using the 32S beam. Gamma-ray spectra resulting from the deexcitation of these levels were measured with the EAGLE gamma-ray spectrometer at the Heavy Ion Laboratory, University ofWarsaw. The first three excited states above the ground state up to 6+ level were populated alongwith the low-lying non-yrast states. Excitation of the 3- state at 2194 keV energy was also observed. Abstract

The delayed coincidence method with special reference to the in-beam experiments is considered as a means of identification and the lifetime measurements of isomeric states, as well as, the method of the investigation of radiations populating isomeric states. Isomers are detected and correlated with prompt events if they occur within a certain time of the prompt event. The 16O +208Pb reaction was investigated using the OSIRIS-II and the EAGLE arrays at HIL-UW. About eighty nuclei were identified as fission fragments among the reaction products. Several known isomeric transitions associated with reaction products in neutron-rich nuclei region were detected, as well as some new candidates were observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The previously accepted spin values of the 991 and 1599 keV levels in 140Sm have been revised and established as 2+ and 0(+), respectively. The γ-γ angular correlation method was used to determine the new spin values. The excited low-spin levels in 140Sm were populated in the 140Eu→ 140Sm and 140Gd 140Eu→ 140Sm decays. Abstract

The spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking was experimentally studied at the Heavy Ion Laboratory of the University of Warsaw by use of the DSAM and DCO analysis. Abstract

Preliminary results of DSA lifetime measurements in the partner bands of 124Cs are presented. The 124Cs nucleus was produced in the 114Cd(14N,4n)124Cs reaction at the Heavy Ion Laboratory of the University of Warsaw. A phenomenon of spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking in 124Cs nucleus is discussed. Abstract

The 134Nd required for studies of the violation of the K selection rule for electromagnetic transitions in nuclei with mass numbers around 130 can be produced in the reaction of 122Te with 16O. The 122Te target was prepared by the evaporation in a high vacuum. The deposition of the Te isotope on the backing was performed from the very close distance to economize the usage of the isotopic material. The thickness distribution of the target material determined by measurements of the alpha particles energy loss was estimated as 32%. The first test of the target on the 16O beam with energy of 80 MeV and intensity of 40 enA proved that target prepared by the Te deposition on the Au backing in vacuum is stable in the in-beam conditions and in spite of its relatively high inhomogeneity is suitable for the planned studies. The decay of the Iπ = Kπ = 8- isomeric state in 130Ba was investigated using the 122Sn(12C,4n)130Ba reaction.
