To increase productivity when joining galvanised sheet metal, metal inert gas (MIG) and tungsten inert gas (TIG) arc brazing are combined in a hybrid process. This coupling of two arc processes increases brazing speed and reduces weld reinforcement and the tendency to spatter. Because the arcs are 6 mm apart, they influence each other. Therefore, the blowing action is a major challenge in hybrid arc brazing. A current modulation and the optimal relative position of the arcs to each other are compulsory conditions. Selected brazing parameters are tested in order to verify the hybrid arc brazing. Overlap joints are brazed on galvanised sheets. The mechanical-technological properties of the brazed joints are determined. It has been shown that hybrid brazing can achieve significantly higher brazing speed with the same or better brazing quality compared to standard arc brazing. For the realisation of the hybrid arc brazing process, software-controlled welding machines are used, which will replace conventional power sources in the future.

Oral contraceptive (OC) intake has been associated with alterations in functional brain architecture and socio-affective processes. However, most previous studies have been limited by cross-sectional designs and/or did not account for synthetic sex hormone concentrations. The aim of this longitudinal study was to determine the effects of starting vs discontinuing OCs on socio-affective functions such as mood and emotion cognition, and to identify their possible neuroendocrinological substrates.To this end, 88 young healthy women performed the behavioral and fMRI measures twice, three to eight months apart: 26 natural cycling women twice during menstruation, 26 OC users twice during OC intake, 25 OC discontinuers and 11 OC starters before and after discontinuation or start, respectively. In addition to mean-based analyses, we used intersubject representational similarity analyses to determine relationships between interindividual variability in within-subject changes of hormone profiles, including concentrations of endogenous and synthetic hormones, region-specific resting state functional connectivity (parcelwise RSFC) and socio-affective measures.Across the whole sample, interindividual patterns of changes in RSFC of fronto-parietal regions, parts of the left hippocampus and the right cerebellum reflected change patterns of progestogen levels. For the right superior orbitofrontal gyrus (OFG), a trinity of idiosyncratic patterns was found in changes of progestogens, RSFC and positive mood. Active OC intake was associated with higher self-reported depressive symptoms in OC discontinuers (and starters). Emotion recognition performance was not associated with changes in hormone profiles or RSFC.Overall, progestogens rather than estrogens appear to be associated with functional brain architecture of the frontal and subcortical/cerebellar regions and positive mood. The right superior OFG represents a possible neural substrate for progestogen-induced changes in positive mood. This study indicates the importance of a multidimensional, longitudinal approach when being interested in effects of hormonal contraception on women’s brain and behavior.

In this study, we conducted a citation network analysis of the Journal of Counseling Psychology (JCP) to elucidate the scope, evolution, and interconnections of JCP publications as reflected in how authors use (i.e., cite) these publications. We used CitNetExplorer to analyze a network of 4,718 JCP publications and 16,959 citation links. The analysis yielded 19 clusters in JCP's citation network. The most dominant facet of the citation network focused on counseling, counseling process, and counseling outcome. The clusters in this facet shifted from an early focus on perceptions of counselors to continuing examinations of what happens in counseling. Another dominant facet comprised clusters on vocational psychology, shifting from an earlier focus on vocational choice and interest, to career counseling and decision making, to vocational and academic development processes and predictors. These major facets converged toward a continuing cluster focused on methodology and analysis along with race, gender, sexuality, and other diversity scholarship. This suggests that diversity-focused publications in JCP often employ and cite methodological and analytic advances. The results also reveal discontinued areas of scholarship in JCP that are ripe for revisiting and rebuilding in new directions (e.g., anger and social justice activism; clinical judgment and artificial intelligence). The results suggest that a promising next step in the evolution of JCP would be for authors to engage with and cite diversity scholarship as central to "general" domains of JCP scholarship. The objective of this study was to propose a French version of the satisfaction survey for inflatable penile implant (SSIPI) questionnaire.Questionnaire validation was performed in three steps: translation into French by two urologists, its validation by the committee of andrologist and sexual medicine (CAMS) and an independent translation in English by another urologist to exclude any distortion with the original version. Furthermore, the questionnaire was tested in few patients having penile implant.The andrology committee approved the French version of the questionnaire. The final version of the questionnaire was successfully tested on all patients. Every patient (n=10) confirmed the good comprehension and pertinence of the questions, and the easy response selection.This French version of the SSIPI questionnaire will allow French-speaking urologists to assess the satisfaction of their patients with a penile implant on a large scale.IV.

Salt marshes are key coastal ecosystems that provide habitats for wildlife, including invertebrates, fishes, and birds. They provide ecosystem services such as protection from storm surges and waves, attenuation of flooding, sequestration of pollutants (e.g., blue carbon), and nutrient removal. They are currently under great threat from sea level rise (SLR). We collected information about trends in the horizontal extent (acreage) of New Jersey salt marshes and recent elevation changes compared with the current local rate of SLR in New Jersey, which is between 5 and 6 mm year−1. We found pervasive, although variable, rates of marsh loss that resulted from both anthropogenic disturbance as well as edge erosion and interior ponding expected from SLR. Elevation trends suggest that the current rates of SLR exceed most marsh elevation gains, although some Phragmites-dominated marshes keep pace with SLR. Four potential remedies to address current coastal trends of marsh loss were described in the context of New Jersey’s regulatory and management environment: protection of marsh inland migration pathways, altered management of Phragmites, thin layer sediment placement, and living shoreline installations. Proactive steps are necessary if coastal wetland ecosystems are to be maintained over the next few decades.

Background Oligodendrogliomas are glial tumors with a relatively favorable survival prognosis of >10 years. While immediate postoperative treatment prolongs survival, long-term toxicities of adjuvant radio-chemotherapy remain a concern. Predictive biomarkers guiding postoperative treatment decisions are limited. Material and Methods In this retrospective study, we included patients treated for a newly diagnosed oligodendroglioma (isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-mutated, 1p/19q-codeleted, CNS WHO grades 2 and 3) in 1992 - 2019 at the Medical University of Vienna or the Kepler University Hospital Linz (Austria). Early treatment was defined as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or both within 6 months after resection, whereas benefit from early treatment was defined as progression-free survival (PFS) above the median in the overall cohort. DNA methylation analysis was performed using Illumina MethylationEPIC 850k microarrays. Results Of all 201 eligible patients, sufficient tumor tissue for DNA methylation analysis was available in 46 patients. Of these, 25/46 (54.3%) were diagnosed with CNS WHO grade 2 and 21/46 (45.6%) with grade 3 oligodendroglioma. Median age at diagnosis was 41 years (range: 23-70). In total, 21/46 (45.6%) patients received early treatment, of whom 13/21 (61.9%) received radio-chemotherapy, 6/21 (28.6%) radiotherapy only and 2/21 (9.5%) chemotherapy only. Median PFS was 134.0 months (95%CI: 78.3 - not reached) in patients receiving early treatment versus 87.2 months (95%CI: 66.8 - 150) in patients who did not. In patients receiving early treatment, differences in DNA methylation profiles could be detected between patients who drew benefit from postoperative treatment (group 1) versus those who did not (group 2). Based on the top 1000 differentially methylated CpG sites between both groups, two clusters were detected which comprised either patients of group 1 or 2. Clustering was independent from gender, WHO grade, extent of resection, type of postoperative treatment, treating center, and O6-methylguanine-methyltransferease (MGMT) promoter methylation status. Gene set enrichment analysis of the top 1000 differentially methylated gene sites mapped to 694 genes showed differential methylation in genes involved in fibroblast growth receptor 1 (FGFR1) signaling, Wnt signaling, integrin signaling, and actin cytoskeleton regulation. Conversely, in patients not receiving early treatment, PFS did neither correlate with DNA methylation clustering nor with MGMT promoter methylation. Conclusion In our cohort, whole genome DNA methylation was associated with PFS in patients who received early postoperative treatment, suggesting a predictive but not prognostic role. As the predictive value of MGMT promoter methylation is limited in oligodendroglioma, whole genome DNA methylation should be considered in future clinical trials.

Imported to adorn tanks of marine aquarium hobbyists, the trade in live corals poses a significant risk to species that concurrently face threats from rising global temperatures, pollution, and destructive fishing practices. To better understand the live coral trade, we employed a crime script framework to analyze the process by which corals are harvested in two of the world’s major exporting countries—Indonesia and Fiji. We demonstrate that coral harvesting and export are complex activities that require a specific set of skills and tools. As such, various intervention strategies are proposed to address illegal coral harvesting at different stages of the crime script.

In this study, we conducted a citation network analysis of intersectionality scholarship. We aimed to elucidate content domains in this scholarship’s citation network. In addition, we explored a citation-based genealogy of this scholarship, attending to the representation of women of color identified in prior critical analyses of intersectionality scholarship as key but under-acknowledged contributors to intersectional thought and praxis. We used CitNetExplorer to analyze a network of 17,332 records and 60,132 citation links. The analysis yielded 17 clusters, with the five largest clusters focusing on (1) conceptualizing intersectionality theory, methodology, and analysis; (2) psychology, identity stigma, and multiple minority statuses; (3) sociology of gender inequality, labor markets, and organizations; (4) political science, political systems and policy, including in the European context; and (5) violence against women, gender and health, and health equity. Although some of the key women of color contributors to intersectional thought were among the most cited authors in the network, others were cited infrequently or not at all across the network and clusters. Taken together, the analyses revealed substantial and ongoing engagement with efforts to define and refine intersectionality as epistemology and methodology. However, the analyses pointed to the need for scholars to reengage with, cite, and follow the examples of the women of color who contributed to intersectional thought by actually doing intersectional praxis that directly advances social justice aims. Some of the smaller clusters in the citation network reflected content domains, such as environmental justice and community planning, ripe for such activist-scholar work. Microfibers are the most prevalent microplastics in most terrestrial, freshwater, and marine biota as well as in human tissues and have been collected from environmental compartments across most ecosystems and species sampled worldwide. These materials, made of diverse compound types, range from semi-synthetic and treated natural fibers to synthetic microfibers. Microfibers expose organisms across diverse taxa to an array of chemicals, both from the manufacturing process and from environmental adsorption, with effects on organisms at subcellular to population levels. Untangling the physical versus chemical effects of these compounds on organisms is challenging and requires further investigations that tease apart these mechanisms. Understanding how physical and chemical exposures affect organisms is essential to improving strategies to minimize harm.

The development of new brazing fillers requires knowledge about their properties in comparison to well established fillers. Therefore, the determination of the spreading and flow behavior is necessary. By now, different measuring techniques are combined in order to reach a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms. Especially in case of flux brazing, conventional measuring techniques cannot be used. Due to the industrial demand of application-related experiments, the intended setup should be simple and easily to arrange. This paper deals with the development of a new procedure to determine the spreading and flow behavior of brazing fillers employing flux. The experimental setup, which consists of a commercially available induction heater, equipped with a temperature controller, is mounted inside a gas and vacuum tight chamber. A CCD camera system is used to record the spreading and flow behavior on surfaces as well as inside narrow gaps. The results of experiments using different fillers and base materials are presented. The measurements of the spreading area and the flow velocity under defined conditions allow a quantitative evaluation of the properties of the fillers. Thus, the comparison of different fillers among each other is possible.

There has been a virtual explosion of research on microplastics. Every week new articles are published in scientific journals. However, not all of them are original or important. Dozens of papers come out monthly that report the number of microplastic particles found in some water body, but they cannot be compared because there are no standardized methods for collection or analysis. However, it has become clear that collecting microplastics with nets misses most of the microplastics, since microfibers, which are by far the most abundant type when whole water samples are analyzed, pass through nets. These microfibers are derived primarily from synthetic clothing via wastewater from washing machines. Another common study documents that some species consumes microplastics. It seems that every animal studied eats them; it would be of greater interest to find one that does not ingest them. Although animals consume them, few studies have examined how soon and how many are egested. Most may pass through the gut without causing any noticeable effects. This is an important area to study. Microplastics are considered vectors for transferring contaminants to animals and up the food chain, but few studies demonstrate this with realistic scenarios such as providing the animals some “real” food and time to egest. Effects attributed to microplastics may be symptoms of inadequate nutrition or a clogged digestive tract. It is also important to learn how much of the adsorbed contaminants the gut can desorb during the time that microplastics are passing through. Future feeding studies should not use spherical microplastics which are rare in aquatic environments but should use primarily microfibers which are the predominant shape found, provide real food, and allow time for egestion to occur. Other research needs include additional studies on soil and terrestrial biota and developing ways to modify the manufacture of textiles to shed fewer microfibers.

Whilst both plastic production and inputs at sea have increased since the 1950s, several modelling studies predict a further increase in the coming years in these respective quantities. We compiled scientific literature on trends in marine litter, consisting largely of plastic and microplastics in the ocean, understanding that monitoring programs or assessments for these aspects are varied, frequently focusing on limited components of the marine environment in different locations, and covering a wide spectrum of marine litter types, with limited standardization. Here we discuss how trends in the amounts of litter in the marine environment can be compared with the information provided by models. Increasing amounts of plastic are found in some regions, especially in remote areas, but many repeated surveys and monitoring efforts have failed to demonstrate any consistent real temporal trend. Many women eschew the feminist label despite believing in gender equality. In order to effectively promote feminist change, it is important to understand the factors involved in feminist attitudes, identification, and behavior. In the present research, we helped clarify the relations among these factors. In a survey of 428 U.S. women, we found that participants with stronger attitudes toward gender equality and more favorable explicit and implicit attitudes toward feminist prototypes were more likely to claim a feminist label. And those who did so reported greater willingness to intervene when confronted with everyday sexist behavior, particularly if they perceived that they personally were vulnerable to the effects of sexism. We suggest that improving attitudes toward feminist prototypes may help promote feminist identification, and informing women about the pervasiveness of sexism, including their personal vulnerability, may promote willingness to act after the feminist label has been adopted.
