The current integration state of ITER Equatorial Port #11 (EP#11) is described. This port is the first plasma port and thus the integration phase is close to the final stage. The new modular design of neutron shielding is implemented in the Diagnostic shielding modules’ (DSM) construction to achieve the maximum shielding efficiency within the weight restrictions and keeping fully operable the tenant diagnostics systems. The same approach was applied to Interspace structure frame design to allow the safe hand-on maintenance near the highly activated components. The current iteration of the engineering calculations, including the neutron transport and shutdown dose rate (SDDR), thermohydraulics, electromagnetics, seismic, and structure integrity calculations, showed that the current design of EP#11 satisfy all ITER requirements. The special metalworking, welding, and various other technologies are tested during the process of preparation for the manufacturing of ITER EP#11. Production technologies of the full-size DSM mock-up and various elements of its infrastructure were tested. The multizoned clean area assembly hall for the final assembly is close to getting completed and the testing of vacuum items has to be sent to ITER.

The LIU-2 induction accelerator is described. It is used as an injector for the developed large linear induction accelerator with a maximum electron beam energy of 20 MeV, which is intended for smallangle pulse X-ray tomography. Owing to the good quality and high current of the electron beam (2 kA), the injector is capable of operating as an independent X-ray source with an electron energy of 2 MeV, the beam diameter at the target of 1 MeV is ∼20% of the total energy yield. The spread of the radiation intensity in the solid angle of 10° is ±5%, and the absorbed dose at a distance of 1 m from the target is 32 × 10−3 Gy, which allows this source to be used with attenuation of 103–104 for exposure of available X-ray films. This type of system is characterized by a high transmission capability with a 0.5-mm maximum spatial resolution of X-ray images and can be used in the X-ray imaging technique when carrying out gas-dynamic testing of products with an optical thickness as great as 90 mm of lead equivalent.

A source of positrons allowing 5 × 108 positrons accelerated to the energy of 70 MeV to be produced per pulse has been developed. The process of electron-positron pair production in an electromagnetic shower is used for production of positrons. The electromagnetic shower is generated in a tantalum target by a beam of 2 × 1010 electrons with energy 270 MeV. A high efficiency of positron collection (positron yield Y ≈ 0.1 GeV−1) is ensured by a unique design of the matching device.

We have experimented with a radio-frequency-based streak camera. The basic idea behind the method consists of magnetic deflection of the electron beam imparted by a radio-frequency cavity. All the components of the camera were tested and the time resolution was measured to lie within the sub-ps domain. Further advantages of the method are simplification of triggering, weaker dependence on space-charge effect within the electron beam, high modularity, and ease of implementation.

We have experimented with a streak camera based on radio-frequency deflection of the electron beam. The time resolution was measured to lie in the sub-ps domain. The method also allowed considerable simplification of triggering, weaker dependence on space-charge within the electron beam, high modularity, and ease of implementation. We discuss experimental results and future prospects.
