Abstract: The development of reduced models provide efficient methods that can be used to perform short term experimental data analysis or narrow down the parametric range of more sophisticated numerical approaches. Reduced models are derived by simplifying the physics description with the goal of retaining only the essential ingredients required to reproduce the phenomena under study. This is the role of the gyro-fluid code FAR3d, dedicated to analyze the linear and nonlinear stability of Alfvén Eigenmodes (AE), Energetic Particle Modes (EPM) and magnetic-hydrodynamic modes as pressure gradient driven mode (PGDM) and current driven modes (CDM) in nuclear fusion devices. Such analysis is valuable for improving the plasma heating efficiency and confinement; this can enhance the overall device performance. The present review is dedicated to a description of the most important contributions of the FAR3d code in the field of energetic particles (EP) and AE/EPM stability. FAR3d is used to model and characterize the AE/EPM activity measured in fusion devices as LHD, JET, DIII-D, EAST, TJ-II and Heliotron J. In addition, the computational efficiency of FAR3d facilitates performing massive parametric studies leading to the identification of optimization trends with respect to the AE/EPM stability. This can aid in identifying operational regimes where AE/EPM activity is avoided or minimized. This technique is applied to the analysis of optimized configurations with respect to the thermal plasma parameters, magnetic field configuration, external actuators and the effect of multiple EP populations. In addition, the AE/EPM saturation phase is analyzed, taking into account both steady-state phases and bursting activity observed in LHD and DIII-D devices. The nonlinear calculations provide: the induced EP transport, the generation of zonal structures as well as the energy transfer towards the thermal plasma and between different toroidal/helical families. Finally, FAR3d is used to forecast the AE/EPM stability in operational scenarios of future devices as ITER, CFETR, JT60SA and CFQS as well as possible approaches to optimization with respect to variations in the most important plasma parameters.

Abstract: Tokamak à configuration variable (TCV), recently celebrating 30 years of near-continual operation, continues in its missions to advance outstanding key physics and operational scenario issues for ITER and the design of future power plants such as DEMO. The main machine heating systems and operational changes are first described. Then follow five sections: plasma scenarios. ITER Base-Line (IBL) discharges, triangularity studies together with X3 heating and N2 seeding. Edge localised mode suppression, with a high radiation region near the X-point is reported with N _2 injection with and without divertor baffles in a snowflake configuration. Negative triangularity (NT) discharges attained record, albeit transient, β _N ∼ 3 with lower turbulence, higher low-Z impurity transport, vertical stability and density limits and core transport better than the IBL. Positive triangularity L-Mode linear and saturated ohmic confinement confinement saturation, often-correlated with intrinsic toroidal rotation reversals, was probed for D, H and He working gases. H-mode confinement and pedestal studies were extended to low collisionality with electron cyclotron heating obtaining steady state electron iternal transport barrier with neutral beam heating (NBH), and NBH driven H-mode configurations with off-axis co-electron cyclotron current drive. Fast particle physics. The physics of disruptions, runaway electrons and fast ions (FIs) was developed using near-full current conversion at disruption with recombination thresholds characterised for impurity species (Ne, Ar, Kr). Different flushing gases (D2, H2) and pathways to trigger a benign disruption were explored. The 55 kV NBH II generated a rich Alfvénic spectrum modulating the FI fas ion loss detector signal. NT configurations showed less toroidal Alfvén excitation activity preferentially affecting higher FI pitch angles. Scrape-off layer and edge physics. gas puff imaging systems characterised turbulent plasma ejection for several advanced divertor configurations, including NT. Combined diagnostic array divertor state analysis in detachment conditions was compared to modelling revealing an importance for molecular processes. Divertor physics. Internal gas baffles diversified to include shorter/longer structures on the high and/or low field side to probe compressive efficiency. Divertor studies concentrated upon mitigating target power, facilitating detachment and increasing the radiated power fraction employing alternative divertor geometries, optimised X-point radiator regimes and long-legged configurations. Smaller-than-expected improvements with total flux expansion were better modelled when including parallel flows. Peak outer target heat flux reduction was achieved (>50%) for high flux-expansion geometries, maintaining core performance ( H _98 > 1). A reduction in target heat loads and facilitated detachment access at lower core densities is reported. Real-time control. TCV’s real-time control upgrades employed MIMO gas injector control of stable, robust, partial detachment and plasma β feedback control avoiding neoclassical tearing modes with plasma confinement changes. Machine-learning enhancements include trajectory tracking disruption proximity and avoidance as well as a first-of-its-kind reinforcement learning-based controller for the plasma equilibrium trained entirely on a free-boundary simulator. Finally, a short description of TCV’s immediate future plans will be given.

Abstract: Experiments on ASDEX Upgrade (AUG) in 2021 and 2022 have addressed a number of critical issues for ITER and EU DEMO. A major objective of the AUG programme is to shed light on the underlying physics of confinement, stability, and plasma exhaust in order to allow reliable extrapolation of results obtained on present day machines to these reactor-grade devices. Concerning pedestal physics, the mitigation of edge localised modes (ELMs) using resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) was found to be consistent with a reduction of the linear peeling-ballooning stability threshold due to the helical deformation of the plasma. Conversely, ELM suppression by RMPs is ascribed to an increased pedestal transport that keeps the plasma away from this boundary. Candidates for this increased transport are locally enhanced turbulence and a locked magnetic island in the pedestal. The enhanced D-alpha (EDA) and quasi-continuous exhaust (QCE) regimes have been established as promising ELM-free scenarios. Here, the pressure gradient at the foot of the H-mode pedestal is reduced by a quasi-coherent mode, consistent with violation of the high-n ballooning mode stability limit there. This is suggestive that the EDA and QCE regimes have a common underlying physics origin. In the area of transport physics, full radius models for both L- and H-modes have been developed. These models predict energy confinement in AUG better than the commonly used global scaling laws, representing a large step towards the goal of predictive capability. A new momentum transport analysis framework has been developed that provides access to the intrinsic torque in the plasma core. In the field of exhaust, the X-Point Radiator (XPR), a cold and dense plasma region on closed flux surfaces close to the X-point, was described by an analytical model that provides an understanding of its formation as well as its stability, i.e., the conditions under which it transitions into a deleterious MARFE with the potential to result in a disruptive termination. With the XPR close to the divertor target, a new detached divertor concept, the compact radiative divertor, was developed. Here, the exhaust power is radiated before reaching the target, allowing close proximity of the X-point to the target. No limitations by the shallow field line angle due to the large flux expansion were observed, and sufficient compression of neutral density was demonstrated. With respect to the pumping of non-recycling impurities, the divertor enrichment was found to mainly depend on the ionisation energy of the impurity under consideration. In the area of MHD physics, analysis of the hot plasma core motion in sawtooth crashes showed good agreement with nonlinear 2-fluid simulations. This indicates that the fast reconnection observed in these events is adequately described including the pressure gradient and the electron inertia in the parallel Ohm’s law. Concerning disruption physics, a shattered pellet injection system was installed in collaboration with the ITER International Organisation. Thanks to the ability to vary the shard size distribution independently of the injection velocity, as well as its impurity admixture, it was possible to tailor the current quench rate, which is an important requirement for future large devices such as ITER. Progress was also made modelling the force reduction of VDEs induced by massive gas injection on AUG. The H-mode density limit was characterised in terms of safe operational space with a newly developed active feedback control method that allowed the stability boundary to be probed several times within a single discharge without inducing a disruptive termination. Regarding integrated operation scenarios, the role of density peaking in the confinement of the ITER baseline scenario (high plasma current) was clarified. The usual energy confinement scaling ITER98( p,y ) does not capture this effect, but the more recent H20 scaling does, highlighting again the importance of developing adequate physics based models. Advanced tokamak scenarios, aiming at large non-inductive current fraction due to non-standard profiles of the safety factor in combination with high normalised plasma pressure were studied with a focus on their access conditions. A method to guide the approach of the targeted safety factor profiles was developed, and the conditions for achieving good confinement were clarified. Based on this, two types of advanced scenarios (‘hybrid’ and ‘elevated’ q -profile) were established on AUG and characterised concerning their plasma performance.

Abstract: Recently, experiments on basic plasma physics issues for solving future problems in fusion energy have been performed on a Large Helical Device. There are several problems to be solved in future devices for fusion energy. Emerging issues in burning plasma are: alpha-channeling (ion heating by alpha particles), turbulence and transport in electron dominant heating helium ash exhaust, reduction of the divertor heat load. To solve these problems, understanding the basic plasma physics of (1) wave–particle interaction through (inverse) Landau damping, (2) characteristics of electron-scale (high- k ) turbulence, (3) ion mixing and the isotope effect, and (4) turbulence spreading and detachment, is necessary. This overview discusses the experimental studies on these issues and turbulent transport in multi-ion plasma and other issues in the appendix.

Abstract: The JET hybrid scenario has been developed from low plasma current carbon wall discharges to the record-breaking Deuterium-Tritium plasmas obtained in 2021 with the ITER-like Be/W wall. The development started in pure Deuterium with refinement of the plasma current, and toroidal magnetic field choices and succeeded in solving the heat load challenges arising from 37 MW of injected power in the ITER like wall environment, keeping the radiation in the edge and core controlled, avoiding MHD instabilities and reaching high neutron rates. The Deuterium hybrid plasmas have been re-run in Tritium and methods have been found to keep the radiation controlled but not at high fusion performance probably due to time constraints. For the first time this scenario has been run in Deuterium-Tritium (50:50). These plasmas were re-optimised to have a radiation-stable H-mode entry phase, good impurity control through edge T _i gradient screening and optimised performance with fusion power exceeding 10 MW for longer than three alpha particle slow down times, 8.3 MW averaged over 5 s and fusion energy of 45.8 MJ.

Abstract: A toroidal Alfvén eigenmode (TAE) has been observed to be driven by alpha particles in a JET deuterium-tritium internal transport barrier plasma. The observation occurred 50 ms after the removal of neutral beam heating (NBI). The mode is observed on magnetics, soft-xray, interferometry and reflectometry measurements. We present detailed stability calculations using a similar tool set validated during deuterium only discharges. These calculations strongly support the conclusion that the observed mode is a TAE, and that this mode was destabilized by alpha particles. Non-ideal effects from the bulk plasma are interpreted as responsible for suppressing the majority of TAEs which were also driven by alpha particles, but the modes that match the observations are predicted to be particularly weak for these non-ideal effects. This mode located far from the core on the outboard midplane is found to be driven by both trapped and passing particles despite alpha particles originating in the core.

Abstract: In Tokamak á Configuration Variable (TCV), unstable modes excited by resonant interaction between the shear Alfvèn waves in continuum gaps and energetic particles have been observed in scenarios with neutral beam injection (NBI). TCV is a middle-size device ( $R_0/a = 0.88/0.25$ ) equipped with a ${1}\,\mathrm{MW}$ , ${25}\,\mathrm{keV}$ tangential neutral beam injector. In this paper the phenomenology of modes excited with on-axis NBI is presented. The Alfvènic nature of the modes has been confirmed investigating their sensitivity against plasma parameters such as NBI energy, toroidal magnetic field, and cross-checking with the predictions from linear kinetic stability code. The mode radial profile is estimated using electron cyclotron emission measurement and agrees well with modelling results. In addition, the fast particle distribution function has been modelled using TRANSP/NUBEAM code. Even with counter-current NBI (leading to higher losses), the drive from the resonant particles is sufficient for the mode excitation. An ad-hoc additional diffusion model allows to estimate the fast particle transport, modifying the fast particle gradient at the mode location and matching the neutron rates.

Abstract: Two-phase nozzles, in which the phase transition process takes place, can work in jet superchargers for various purposes, including jet thermal pumps (steam-water injectors) and thermal compressors. In such schemes of thermal transformers, the ejector performs the function of a preliminary compression stage in order to reduce the load on the compression of the working substance in the main compressor. The use of fluxes of boiling liquid as energy-efficient working fluids is inhibited due to the lack of a reliable description of the mechanism of their flow. Finding the dependence of the steam content on the pressure and temperature at the nozzle exit will make it possible to determine the variant of the initial parameters at which the overproduction of steam will be greatest. It is also worth determining the change in the velocity factor, as well as the change in the thrust of the nozzle in the studied range of parameters, in order to find out whether the pressure at the nozzle outlet is a determining factor when choosing the design parameters of the nozzles. The article proposes to investigate the boiling streams in such nozzles by the method of mathematical modeling using a model that takes into account the relaxation nature of vaporization. The study used a compressible two-phase medium model, a kinetic model of evaporation / condensation. The model also takes into account the dynamic and mechanical equilibrium of the process of evaporation-condensation. The calculations were performed using an Ansys CFX commercial CFD product. The value of the mean square relative error of pressure measurement does not exceed 0,119%. The average discrepancy between the obtained data between the mathematical model and the field experiment does not exceed 3%.

9. Evaluation of the Accuracy of Wood Drilling Resistance Measurement Method in Dendrochronological Studies

Abstract: One of the promising methods for determining physical and mechanical properties and structure of wood is the method based on the measurement of drilling resistance. Limitations of application of the method of measuring drilling resistance in dendrochronological studies are related to a number of factors that have a significant impact on the accuracy of determining the variation of physical and mechanical properties of wood within annual layers: the depth of drilling, its direction relative to the fibers, and the speed parameters of the drilling process. In order to assess the accuracy of measuring the radial growth of pine wood (Pinus sylvestris L.) with moisture content of 6–8 %, the ResistYX device and standard thin drill bits were used. On the basis of comparative analysis of radial wood growth determined by the optical method and the method of measuring resistance to drilling, it was found that in order to obtain accurate data on growth with a correlation coefficient greater than 0.7, it is recommended to measure no more than 17 annual layers on one sample, which corresponds to an average total width of annual layers of 36.6 mm. The influence of the main reasons for the decrease in the accuracy of radial growth determination by the drilling resistance measurement method was studied: geometrical parameters of the cutting part of a thin drill bit, deviation of the drilling direction from the specified one, impossibility of precise determination of the strictly radial drilling direction, wood flaws, as well as friction of the drill shank when the drilling depth increases. To increase the accuracy of the method of measuring drilling resistance in dendrochronological studies it is proposed to develop a method including the use of a special or newly developed tool for more accurate determination of the core and radial drilling of wood or round timber; to increase the rigidity of the thin drill bit; to provide the required fixation of the thin drill bit during its initial contact with wood and inside the device. Further studies in this direction will be associated with the assessment of measuring accuracy for the radial growth of coniferous wood by the feeding force for drill bit penetration. Abstract: OBJECTIVE. The study considered the rate and clinical features of recurrent intussusception in children. MATERIAL AND METHODS. Retrospective analysis was made in all patients with intussusception at the period from 2006 to 2016. RESULTS. There were observed 45 cases of intussusception recurrence in 39 (14,5 %) children out of 268. Relapse of intussusception was three times more frequent in boys compared with girls (29 (74,4 %) vs 10 (25,5 %) and it was four times more frequent in children older than one year. The majority of patients (28 (71,8 %) have been admitted to hospital at the first 12 hours since onset of disease. Recurrence of intussusception was more frequent after conservative disinvagination compared with surgery (17,8 % vs 2,5 %; p = 0,026). Pathological formation of the intestine (Meckel’s diverticulum, doubling of the small intestine) were detected in 3 (7,7 %) out of 39 patients with relapse intussusception compared with 3 (1,3 %) out of 229 patients without recurrence (p = 0,05). Conservative treatment was conducted in 23 (59 %) patients and 16 (41,0 %) patients underwent surgery. There weren’t noted severe complications of lethal outcomes. CONCLUSIONS. The authors observed the tendency of frequent recurrence of intussusception in children, especially after conservative treatment.

Abstract: The expediency of the implementation of the principle of steam thermal compression to improve the energy efficiency of sources of electricity and heat supply of small heat power engineering is substantiated. The results of thermodynamic analysis and numerical optimization of the parameters of the compressor steam-turbine cycle of a small cogeneration power plant are presented. A jet step-down thermotransformer has been tested - as an alternative to traditional boiler heating. On the basis of the conducted thermodynamic analysis, a new combined cycle of a step-down thermotransformer has been developed, which ensures efficient conversion of the supplied energy (mainly in the form of fuel heat) into the heat carrier flow of the heat supply system with the required temperature level 50 ... 90 °C). The fundamental difference between the considered thermal transformer and steam compressor heat pumps is the replacement of a mechanical compressor with a steam thermocompressor module (STC-unit). The working process in the STK-module is realized by using the liquid phase of the refrigerant, which boils up during expiration, subcooled to saturation, as an active medium of a jet compressor. Injection of steam from the evaporator is provided due to the fine-dispersed vapor-droplet structure formed in the outlet section of the active flow nozzle. A program for the numerical study of the working process of a step-down thermal transformer was prepared and tested, on the basis of which multivariate calculations were carried out. On the basis of computational studies, the area of achievable indicators of the proposed heat supply system has been established; the area of initial operating parameters corresponding to the maximum values of the conversion coefficient and exergy efficiency was determined; comparative indicators of the main parameters of the investigated thermal transformer on various working substances in the range of operating modes as a heat pump or a refrigerating machine were obtained. Publisher Copyright: © 2022 IAEA, Vienna. DIII-D physics research addresses critical challenges for the operation of ITER and the next generation of fusion energy devices. This is done through a focus on innovations to provide solutions for high performance long pulse operation, coupled with fundamental plasma physics understanding and model validation, to drive scenario development by integrating high performance core and boundary plasmas. Substantial increases in off-axis current drive efficiency from an innovative top launch system for EC power, and in pressure broadening for Alfven eigenmode control from a co-/counter-I p steerable off-axis neutral beam, all improve the prospects for optimization of future long pulse/steady state high performance tokamak operation. Fundamental studies into the modes that drive the evolution of the pedestal pressure profile and electron vs ion heat flux validate predictive models of pedestal recovery after ELMs. Understanding the physics mechanisms of ELM control and density pumpout by 3D magnetic perturbation fields leads to confident predictions for ITER and future devices. Validated modeling of high-Z shattered pellet injection for disruption mitigation, runaway electron dissipation, and techniques for disruption prediction and avoidance including machine learning, give confidence in handling disruptivity for future devices. For the non-nuclear phase of ITER, two actuators are identified to lower the L-H threshold power in hydrogen plasmas. With this physics understanding and suite of capabilities, a high poloidal beta optimized-core scenario with an internal transport barrier that projects nearly to Q = 10 in ITER at ∼8 MA was coupled to a detached divertor, and a near super H-mode optimized-pedestal scenario with co-I p beam injection was coupled to a radiative divertor. The hybrid core scenario was achieved directly, without the need for anomalous current diffusion, using off-axis current drive actuators. Also, a controller to assess proximity to stability limits and regulate β N in the ITER baseline scenario, based on plasma response to probing 3D fields, was demonstrated. Finally, innovative tokamak operation using a negative triangularity shape showed many attractive features for future pilot plant operation.

Abstract: This paper is devoted to the investigation of the effect of nitrogen and carbon content, as well as different temperatures of isothermal holding,—on the structural-phase state evolution of the quenched low-activation 12% chromium ferritic–martensitic steel. Basic temperature ranges within which the structural-phase state of the quenched steel changes upon heating have been found using the differential scanning calorimetry technique. Correlations between changes in the fine atomic structure of steel and structural-phase transformations during isothermal heating have been established by Mossbauer spectroscopy.

Abstract: An overview of recent results obtained at the tokamak ASDEX Upgrade (AUG) is given. A work flow for predictive profile modelling of AUG discharges was established which is able to reproduce experimental H-mode plasma profiles based on engineering parameters only. In the plasma center, theoretical predictions on plasma current redistribution by a dynamo effect were confirmed experimentally. For core transport, the stabilizing effect of fast ion distributions on turbulent transport is shown to be important to explain the core isotope effect and improves the description of hollow low-Z impurity profiles. The L–H power threshold of hydrogen plasmas is not affected by small helium admixtures and it increases continuously from the deuterium to the hydrogen level when the hydrogen concentration is raised from 0 to 100%. One focus of recent campaigns was the search for a fusion relevant integrated plasma scenario without large edge localised modes (ELMs). Results from six different ELM-free confinement regimes are compared with respect to reactor relevance: ELM suppression by magnetic perturbation coils could be attributed to toroidally asymmetric turbulent fluctuations in the vicinity of the separatrix. Stable improved confinement mode plasma phases with a detached inner divertor were obtained using a feedback control of the plasma β. The enhanced Dα H-mode regime was extended to higher heating power by feedback controlled radiative cooling with argon. The quasi-coherent exhaust regime was developed into an integrated scenario at high heating power and energy confinement, with a detached divertor and without large ELMs. Small ELMs close to the separatrix lead to peeling-ballooning stability and quasi continuous power exhaust. Helium beam density fluctuation measurements confirm that transport close to the separatrix is important to achieve the different ELM-free regimes. Based on separatrix plasma parameters and interchange-drift-Alfvén turbulence, an analytic model was derived that reproduces the experimentally found important operational boundaries of the density limit and between L- and H-mode confinement. Feedback control for the X-point radiator (XPR) position was established as an important element for divertor detachment control. Stable and detached ELM-free phases with H-mode confinement quality were obtained when the XPR was moved 10 cm above the X-point. Investigations of the plasma in the future flexible snow-flake divertor of AUG by means of first SOLPS-ITER simulations with drifts activated predict beneficial detachment properties and the activation of an additional strike point by the drifts. Abstract: The tokamak à configuration variable (TCV) continues to leverage its unique shaping capabilities, flexible heating systems and modern control system to address critical issues in preparation for ITER and a fusion power plant. For the 2019–20 campaign its configurational flexibility has been enhanced with the installation of removable divertor gas baffles, its diagnostic capabilities with an extensive set of upgrades and its heating systems with new dual frequency gyrotrons. The gas baffles reduce coupling between the divertor and the main chamber and allow for detailed investigations on the role of fuelling in general and, together with upgraded boundary diagnostics, test divertor and edge models in particular. The increased heating capabilities broaden the operational regime to include T e/T i ∼ 1 and have stimulated refocussing studies from L-mode to H-mode across a range of research topics. ITER baseline parameters were reached in type-I ELMy H-modes and alternative regimes with ‘small’ (or no) ELMs explored. Most prominently, negative triangularity was investigated in detail and confirmed as an attractive scenario with H-mode level core confinement but an L-mode edge. Emphasis was also placed on control, where an increased number of observers, actuators and control solutions became available and are now integrated into a generic control framework as will be needed in future devices. The quantity and quality of results of the 2019–20 TCV campaign are a testament to its successful integration within the European research effort alongside a vibrant domestic programme and international collaborations.

Abstract: Interactions in lanthanide—amino acid—β-cyclodextrin systems (amino acid = tryptophan, phenylalanine; lanthanide = Eu3+, Pr3+) were studied in aqueous solution. An analysis of the chemical shifts observed in the 1H NMR spectra, as well as the ROESY data suggest the possibility for amino acid—lanthanide ion complexes encapsulated in the β-cyclodextrin cavity to form in solution. According to ROESY data, the indole ring of tryptophan and the phenyl group of phenylalanine enter the β-CD cavity from the wide rim side. Coordination with the metal ion occurs through the amino acid carboxyl group.

18. The influence of reservoir rock fractures on the efficiency of geotechnical jobs on the Yamal oilfields

Abstract: At present, the majority of Yamal oilfields are characterized by low debits. That is why geotechnical jobs (GTJ) are conducted here to increase oil production. Thus, this article analyzes predicted and actual efficiency of GTJ on nineteen Yamal oilfields in 2010-2017. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to provide information on the quantity and efficiency of GTJ on Yamal oilfields as well as to interpret the results obtained. The question is how reservoir rock fractures influence GTJ. So, much attention is given to the efficiency of hydraulic fracturing operation (HFO) in relation to the rate of field tectonical diversity. In fact, our analysis shows that physical and chemical methods take the leading place among the quantity of actual operations. It was also found that the biggest incremental oil production was obtained from drilling horizontal drain holes, but the smallest quantity – from remedial cementing. Furthermore, the results presented here show the dependence of HFO efficiency on the rate of field diversity. In conclusion, actual data prove that double permeability of reservoir rock increases the efficiency of well perforation, HFO and physical and chemical methods as well as its dependence on the rate of field diversity. The findings are of direct practical relevance.

Abstract: The effect of synthesis conditions (type of cations, annealing temperature, reductive or oxidative atmosphere) on the chemical composition and structure of compounds formed in the MO2–CeO2/Ce2O3 systems (M = Zr, Hf) was studied by X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The isothermal annealing of the precursors at temperatures below 1000°C in air gives Ce0.5M0.5O2 powders with fluorite type cubic structure (space group Fm3m). High-temperature annealing above 1000°C gives rise to additional tetragonal (space group P42/nmc) (for zirconates) or monoclinic (space group P21/a) (for hafnates) phases. The annealing in a hydrogen atmosphere affords the compounds Ce 2 4+ Ce 2-2 3+ M2O7 + x with an intermediate oxidation state of cerium and the x value depending on both the reduction conditions and the pre-annealing parameters. Vacuum annealing at 1400°C considerably decreases the content of Ce(IV) in the samples and affords a pyrochlore structure (space group Fd3m) with predominating Ce(III) cations.

Abstract: The aim of the work is to study demographic and clinical features of intussusception in children. Material and methods. A retrospective analysis of all intussusception patients, who received treatment at the “Ivano-Matreninskaya Children’s Clinical Hospital” in Irkutsk over the period from 2006 to 2016. The age, gender of patients, the prescription of the disease, seasonality, diagnostic methods, treatment methods and outcomes (recovery, relapse of intussusception) were taken into account. Results. Over the past 10 years, there were observed 268 intussusception children patients. The number of cases per year varied from 11 to 41 with an annual increase in the last 5 years. At the age of 1 year there were 44 (16.4%) patients, over the year - 224 (83.6%). Boys are more often ill (191 (71.3%)) in comparison with girls (77 (28.7%)). There was no regular correlation between the frequency of the intussusception and the time of year. The peak incidence was observed in the summer (29.5%) with the fall in autumn (22.7%) and approximately the same ratio in winter and spring (23.4% and 24.4%, respectively). 204 (76.1%) patients entered up to 12 hours from the onset of the disease, 35 cases (13.1%) - from 12 to 24 hours, 29 patients (10.8%) entered after 24 hours. A clinical feature of intussusception was an increase in the number of cases of recurrent forms, whose frequency accounted of 14.5%. Abstract: Inclusion complex of 4-acetoxy-1-(2-ethoxyethyl)-4-phenylpiperidine with β-cyclodextrin was synthesized. Composition (1:2) and the structure of the complex were confirmed by NMR spectroscopy and thermal analysis. The results of pharmacological studies showed that the compound is of interest for in-depth testing, because of its deeper and more prolonged conduction anaesthesia, terminal (superficial) and infiltration anaesthesia along with less acute toxicity compared to the reference preparations.

Abstract: 3D mapping techniques have a large variety of applications from entertainment to military and medical fields. However, there is a big challenge of obtaining well refined 3D model from a set of images without usage of depth sensors. In the paper, we analyze main components of 3D reconstruction pipeline allowing to get detailed models of outdoor objects from drones. In particular, we experiment with algorithms required for structure from motion and point cloud densification. It is demonstrated, that proper local feature extraction, matching and verification directly effect on a final model quality. Analysis of two existing 3D reconstruction frameworks (MVE and COLMAP) is conducted. Initial experimental results are shown.

Abstract: У статті вирішено актуальну проблему підвищення ефективності вакуумних систем охолодження установок виробництва біодизельного палива шляхом застосування вакуумних агрегатів на базі рідинно-парового ежектора, що працює за принципом струминної термокомпресії. Метою даного дослідження є підтвердження доцільності застосування вакуумних агрегатів на базі рідинно-парового ежектора, що працює за принципом струминної термокомпресії, у вакуумних системах охолодження установок виробництва біодизельного палива. Подано опис базової схеми системи охолодження установки виробництва біодизельного палива, яка містить трьохступеневий пароструминний ежектор. Запропоновану схему на базі рідинно-парового ежектора. Виконано порівняльний аналіз вакуумних систем охолодження установок виробництва біодизельного палива, схеми яких порівнювались, у тому числі на базі існуючих триступеневих пароструминних ежекторів і нового одноступеневого вакуумного агрегату на базі рідиннопарового ежектора. Як порівняльний аналіз застосовано ексергетичний метод оцінювання ефективності застосування запропонованого устаткування, оскільки у робочому процесі відбувається перетворення двох видів енергії: електричної (для приводу насоса) і теплової (для підігріву робочої рідини активного потоку у теплообміннику-підігрівачі). У результаті досягнуті більші показники ефективності застосування нової технології за оптимізаційним параметром – проміжним тиском між рідинно-паровим ежектором та рідиннокільцевим вакуумним насосом. The article deals with the actual problem of improving the vacuum cooling efficiency systems during the biodiesel production by using vacuum devices account for the liquid-vapor ejector, which operates on the principle of jet thermal compression. The purpose of this study is the feasibility of using vacuum devices, that based on the liquid-vapor ejector, and takes as a basis the principle of jet thermal compression in vacuum cooling systems of biodiesel production units. This article describes the basic scheme of the cooling system devices during the biodiesel production, which includes a three-stage steam-jet ejector and the proposed scheme based on the liquid-vapor ejector. A comparative analysis of the vacuum cooling systems during biodiesel production units was realized, where the schemes were compared on the basis of existent three-stage steam-jet ejectors and a new single-stage vacuum unit based on a liquid-vapor ejector. An exergy method of assessing the effectiveness of the proposed equipment was used as a comparison, because in the working process there is a transformation of two energy types: electric for the pump drive and heat for heating the working fluid of the active flow in the exchanger-heater. The intermediate pressure between the liquid-vapor ejector and the liquid-ring vacuum pump can help to achieve the highest characteristics of the new technology on the optimization parameters.

Abstract: Cerium monoaluminate Ce1-x3+ Cex4+ AlO3+x/2 powders with low contents of Ce4+ cations (х ~ 0.052) were synthesized. A set of modern local structure sensitive methods of analysis, including X-ray absorption spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy, were used to study the crystal, local, and electronic structures of the synthesized compounds. The degree of reduction and the thermal stability to oxidation of reduced powders depend not only on the reduction conditions but also on the conditions of heat pretreatment of the initial samples. It was concluded that the reaction 4CeAlO3 + O2 ↔ 4CeO2 + 2Al2O3 is reversible.

Abstract: In the paper, two examples of embedded vision m odules are described. Firstly, it is demonstrated how fiducial marker tracking algorithm can be adopted for operation on Raspberry Pi. Usage of proposed ideas allows to achieve around 60fps speed of binary marker tracking. Secondly, we describe the problem of text detection and recognition in outdoor environment. Experimental results indicate on acceptable results and good potential to provide low-cost and efficient embedded vision system for this purpose. Technical details of both embedded vision modules are comprehensively discussed.

Abstract: An effective way to generate fast ions in a fusion plasma is by means of Ion Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ICRH). The most adopted scenario is the so called minority heating, where a minority species at a few percent level is added to the main bulk plasma and is accelerated by ICRH. A typical example is the heating of 3He ions in a bulk deuterium plasma, which has also been used to study the excitation of fast ion instabilities and their transport [1]. A new ICRH scenario for plasma heating and fast ion studies has been theoretically proposed and experimentally demonstrated at the JET and Alcator C-mod tokamaks [2]. It is based on optimizing the polarization of the wave at the resonance in the vicinity of the ion-ion hybrid layer. This can be accomplished in a 3 ion species plasma, where two bulk species determine the propagation properties of the wave and a third species, which is added at the per mille level, efficiently absorbs the power in the vicinity of the ion-ion hybrid layer. In this paper we present a first quantitative analysis of the data obtained in a recent experiment on 3 ion ICRH heating in a D- (3He)-H plasma at JET, where H and D, in the ratio of approximately 70:30, were the two bulk species required by the scenario and 3He was the species to accelerate (X[3He] 0:2?0:3%).

Abstract: A method is developed for measuring the content of hydrogen (2Н) and oxygen (17O) isotopes in liquid media based on quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance. It has been established that the shifting europium trifluoromethanesulfonate (III) reagent is the most appropriate chemical compound for a reference sample to study the isotopic composition of aqueous solutions. A dependence of the paramagnetic chemical shift of 2Н and 17O nuclei on the concentration of Eu3+ ions in a solution is studied.

Abstract: Processes connected with the diffusion of oxygen in targets for the laser ablation of a superconductive ceramics of composition YBa2Cu3O7 − x have been investigated by the methods of thermal analysis. A two-step mechanism of oxygen diffusion upon isothermal annealings in air has been revealed, which is explained by the incorporation of atmospheric oxygen into different positions, namely, into the interstices and directly into the sites of the crystal lattice.

Abstract: Augmented reality is popular and rapidly growing direction. It is successfully used in medicine, education, engineering and entertainment. In the paper, basic principles of typical augmented reality system are described. An efficient hybrid visual tracking algorithm is proposed. The approach is based on combining of the optical flow technique with direct tracking methods. It is demonstrated that developed technique allows to achieve stable and precise results. Comparative experimental results are included.

Abstract: Nowadays automatic methods based on artificial intelligence are rapidly growing. In the paper, a problem of automatic target recognition in synthetic aperture radar images is described. It is demonstrated, that two different machine learning instruments can provide very high classification accuracy. In particular, support vector machines with proper optimization and developed local feature set gives competitive results. Secondly, a novel architecture of convolutional neural network is proposed. Important practical aspects of both methods are analyzed. Experimental results for MSTAR are given.

Abstract: SAR is a very popular instrument for imaging of the ground surface. Possibility of high-resolution image formation makes it superior tool for various information extraction tasks. In the paper, a problem of automatic target recognition is comprehensively analyzed. An idea of azimuth and range target profiles fusion is proposed. It is demonstrated, that usage of a proper image preprocessing with appropriate feature extraction steps allow to achieve a competitive recognition accuracy while keeping a low-dimensionality of feature vectors. Experimental results are discussed for a publicly available MSTAR dataset.

Abstract: Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a powerful tool for remote sensing of the Earth surface. In the paper, several applications of pattern detection and recognition algorithms for extraction of information from SAR images are discussed. In particular, an idea of usage of optical flow techniques for automatic estimation of the moving target displacements from a sequence of single-look SAR images is proposed. It is shown, how this technique can be adopted for SAR imagery. In addition, it is demonstrated that local feature descriptors can be used for automatic SAR panorama creation without information about reference platform orientation. Finally, a problem of automatic target recognition is analyzed. It is shown, that a fusion of azimuth and range profiles of the ground target allows to achieve a competitive accuracy using quite compact feature vectors.

Abstract: The idea for automatic extraction of the moving target parameters using single-antenna synthetic aperture radar is proposed. The displacements of the target are estimated from the sequence of the single-look SAR images using the Lucas-Kanade optical flow technique. It is shown that both moving target location in the SAR look and its shift direction can be extracted. In addition, the linear road segments are automatically detected from the multi-look SAR image using the Canny edge map and local pixels intensity gradient analysis. Proposed ideas are incorporated into the novel algorithm capable to unambiguously extract the moving target parameters using the single-antenna SAR system. Experimental examples obtained with X-band airborne SAR system are illustrated as well.

Abstract: Synthetic aperture radar is a very popular and widely used instrument for various remote sensing tasks. In the paper, we propose several novel ideas for improvement of the efficiency of the modern SAR systems. At first, the problem of the automatic image stitching is considered. Instead of the common cross-correlation based solution the local features detection and description techniques are proposed. Secondly, we analyze the problem of the moving target parameters estimation. It is shown that the optical flow techniques can be used for the automatic extraction of the moving target shifts from the sequence of SAR looks. Experimental examples with real SAR data are illustrated and comprehensively discussed.

Abstract: Random phthalide-containing poly(arylene ether ketones) have been synthesized. The properties of the polymers have been studied by the thermostimulated-current and thermostimulated-depolarization methods. An extremal dependence of the electrophysical properties on the content of phthalide groups in macromolecules is observed with a maximum at their concentration of 10–15%. These dependences are explained in terms of the Sworakowski model in which the role of polarization energy of phthalide-containing molecular fragments is distinguished. The feasibility of targeted variations in the electrophysical properties of nonconjugated polymers through incorporation of functional blocks into them is discussed.

Abstract: Exchange reactions that may proceed in the course of polycondensation during formation of a polymer from 4,4′-difluorobenzophenone and 4,4′-(isopropylidene)diphenol have been studied. It has been shown that the molecular mass of the polymer decreases under the action of 4,4′-(isopropylidene)diphenol diphenolate. The nucleophilic substitution of the activated aryl halide in DMAA in the presence of potassium carbonate yields high-molecular-mass block copoly(arylene ether ketones) based on 4,4′-difluorobenzophenone and a number of bisphenols. It was demonstrated the synthetic procedure and the chemical structure of block copoly(arylene ether ketones) strongly affect the onset temperature of softening and the mechanical characteristics of the films based on these polymers.

Abstract: Synthetic aperture radar is a popular instrument for high-resolution imaging. Usage of state-of-the-art image and signal processing solutions allows to significantly increase the efficiency of such systems. In the paper two important applications of computer vision algorithms are described. In particular, usage of local feature extraction algorithms for the radar image stitching. This results in the automatical panorama creation without usage of the navigation data. In addition, the road location approach based on the stroke width transform and contour analysis is proposed. Application of the developed methods is illustrated with real SAR data examples.

Abstract: Poly(arylene ether ketones) with preset molecular weights (reduced viscosity from 0. 2 to 0.82 dL g−1) containing terminal phenolic groups were synthesized by the reactions of 4,4′-difluorobenzophenone with bisphenol A or phenolphthalein in the presence of K2CO3 in N,N-dimethylacetamide. The influence of an excess of bisphenols on the molecular weights of the polymers obtained was studied. The structures of the polymers were confirmed by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The molecular weight distributions of the polymers were determined.

Abstract: The effect of neutral gas puffing in ELMy H-mode plasmas is studied using integrated predictive transport modelling, which is needed because of the strong link between the plasma core, the edge transport barrier and the scrape-off layer. Self-consistent results are obtained by coupling the one-dimensional core transport code JETTO with the two-dimensional edge code EDGE2D. In addition, magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stability analysis is performed on the output of the transport simulations. The results of the MHD stability analysis is used to adjust MHD stability limits in the transport modelling, so that there is a feedback loop between the transport codes and the MHD stability codes. It is shown that strong gas puffing causes a sequence of causalities involving edge density, collisionality, bootstrap current, total edge current and magnetic shear, eventually triggering a transition from second to first ideal (or resistive) n =∞ ballooning stability. Qualitatively, the transition from second to first ballooning stability resembles the experimentally observed transition from type I to type III ELMy H-mode with the accompanying increase in ELM frequency and deterioration of plasma confinement.
