The paper is devoted to modern experimental and computational studies analysis on the point of asymmetric destruction of ice on the surfaces of the working blades of gas-turbine engine blades. A schematic diagram of an experimental setup has been developed, which consists of the following main elements: a wind tunnel, a cold chamber, a model fan, an electric motor, and a high-speed video camera. The experimental setup makes it possible to carry out laboratory studies of the ice formation and destruction processes. The choice of the experimental test rig parameters was made to allow assessing the icing of the blades of a rotating fan, which reproduces the processes occurring on gas turbine engines. Based on the results of three-dimensional gas-dynamic and strength calculations, the design and basic geometrical parameters of the flow path and the dummy fan were determined. The dependences of compression ratio Pk and the power consumption of a model fan Wcons on the value of the mass air flow Gair for a different number of rotor blades are presented. The choice of materials for the disk hub and blades of a dummy fan which experience tensile and bending loads at high rotation speeds up to 12.000 rpm was made, that satisfies the conditions of static and dynamic strength, also the allowable safety factors were evaluated, and pressure characteristics were obtained.

The paper presents a promising direction of developing and using the cyberinfrastructure focused on pipelined/parallel data processing on a supercomputer of the experimental setup being developed at Perm National Research Polytechnic University, a small-sized wind tunnel (SSWT). The model climatic wind tunnel named Icing (MCWT) intensive data streams from which are transmitted on a high-speed optical network to the computer nodes of the supercomputer for their processing in real time created at PNRPU is described. The numerical gas-hydrodynamic results for the MCWT path obtained on this cyberinfrastructure are presented.

The problem of vibrations arising during the operation of gas transmittal unit compressors is an urgent task in designing a rotor constructor. Existing approaches do not allow predicting the vibration probability in every operating mode. The article presents a new 2FSI approach allowing a designer to take into account the previously omitted factor of gas and structure interaction. The current level of high-performance computing systems allows using the 2FSI approach for complex systems such as a gas transmittal unit centrifugal compressor. The article presents the numerical calculation results of the gas transmittal unit compressor stage. The results were, obtained using the PNRPU high-performance computing complex (peak performance 24 TFLOPS). In addition, the paper provides the estimated computation time when using different core numbers.

Creation of multi-mode aero-cooled climatic wind tunnels (ACCWT) for testing the icing of aircraft structures is an urgent task of modern aircraft construction. The ACCWT nozzle is one of its most complex elements in terms of design. The article presents the results of parallel multi-criteria optimization of the nozzle profile in two ACCWT operating modes of the gas dynamics of the watered flow and icing on the walls, which is performed by parallel calculations. The results were obtained on the PNRPU supercomputer (peak performance of 24 TFLOPS). The proposed algorithm scalabilities are estimated, the acceleration is compared on various grid models.

The study is focused on the technology of remote real-time processing of intensive data streams from experimental stands using supercomputers. The structure of distributing data system, software for data processing, optimized PIV algorithm are presented. Using of real-time data processing makes possible realization of experiments with feedback when external forcing depends on internal characteristics of the system. Approbation of this technique is demonstrated on experimental study of intensive cyclonic vortex formation from localized heat source in a rotating layer of fluid. In this study the heating intensity depends on velocity of the flow. The characteristics of the flow obtained by supercomputer real-time processing of PIV images are used as input parameters for the heating system. The concept of using developed technology in the experimental stands of aircraft industry is also described.

Numerical modeling of the icing process on the wing profile NACA 0012 is conducted. The influence of speed, pressure and temperature of the incoming gas-dynamic flow, the attack angle of the profile, the water content of the medium, the wing surface roughness, the profile exposure in the flow on the aerodynamic profile characteristics is studied. The mathematical model is given that takes into account the direct modeling of contours of ice build-up formed as a result of impact of droplets on the wing profile, processes of ice accretion and sublimation, evaporation of a liquid film, transport of liquid along the profile surface. The studies were carried out using the ANSYS engineering analysis system FENSAP-ICE 3D on a high-performance computing cluster. Research of icing processes is equally important for ground application of aircraft engines and compressors in gas transmittal units in the Far North.

We describe in this article the optimization calculations of spray droplets in a gas injected through a nozzle into a work area, as a part of a research icing on model objects in a small-size climatic wind tunnel. Calculations were performed in a three-dimensional formulation. It is assumed that the drop has some speed, temperature and diameter as it enters the gas flow, which has a specified speed and temperature, so that certain temperature limits are attained when it interacts with a remote obstruction. We determined the maximum gas flow temperature, which corresponds to the minimum of cooling energy consumption. The optimization was carried out using the Globalizer software (Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod). Also, we could solve the integration issue between Globalizer and ANSYS Workbench 13.0. ANSYS was employed as a tool to calculate optimization criteria values, whereas Globalizer was used as an optimal parameter search tool. Calculations were performed on the PNRPU high-performance cluster (with a peak performance of 24 TFLOPS).

For experimental study of aerodynamic processes of passing a gas stream over bodies, searching for optimal designs of aircraft and verification of simulation models tests in wind tunnels are widely used. The paper presents an urgent task of designing elements of the wind tunnel and first results based on numerical modeling of gas-dynamic processes.
