Background/Objectives: Due to soaring demand and rapid depletion of high-grade iron ores, lean grade iron ores of India like BHJ and BHQ needs to be utilized through suitable beneficiation techniques. Methods: Banded Hematite Jasper (BHJ) sample of Bonai-Keonjhar belt (BK belt), Odisha, India assayed 35.3 % Fe, 47.1% SiO2 and 0.96% Al2O3 was investigated in respect of mineralogy, liberation characteristics and chemistry to finding out its optimum beneficiation potential. In the present investigation, efforts have been made to characterize the BHJ sample with reference to its beneficiation response. The sample was subjected to various beneficiation operations like Jigging followed by hydrocyclone, two-stage tabling and magnetic Separation. Findings: Mineralogical studies indicate that quartz and hematite are the major mineral phases, whereas goethite, martitized magnetite and clay (kaolinite) are present in very minor amounts. The liberation characteristic indicates that the average band thickness of Iron bearing mineral is of 1680 microns and 80% of the iron bearing minerals are liberated at -105 microns size. The two stage tabling of jig concentrate with desliming gives better outcome as compared with direct tabling of jig concentrate. An iron ore concentrate assayed 64.5% Fe, 5.6% SiO2 and 0.80% Al2O3 with wt% recovery of 23.2% can be obtained from two stage tabling. Another concentrate from magnetic separation of table middling and hydrocyclone assayed 63.2% Fe, 7.2% SiO2 and 0.7% Al2O3 with wt% recovery of 12.4% can be obtained. Novelty/ Application: Here a conventional beneficiation flow sheet is developed with a finding that, in order to beneficiate ore like banded hematite jasper (BHJ), an integral characterization approach is very much essential. Both of the concentrates obtained through the flow sheet assayed 64% Fe, 6.2% SiO2 and 0.7% Al2O3 with a wt% recovery of 35.6% can be utilized as a feed stock for pellet making in iron ore industries. Keywords: Banded Hematite Jasper (BHJ); mineral beneficiation; wet high intensity magnetic separator (WHIMS); jigging; Bonai-Keonjhar belt

In the context of the COVID-19 disease outbreak, organizations such as the universities are at risk of being essentially shut around the world if the overall condition does not improve. The other name for COVID-19 is a serious acute respiratory syndrome, a virus that causes serious respiratory problems. Corona virus-2 is a contagious agent spread through droplets in the air from an affected patient. This spreads easily by direct contact with affected patients or touching the objects which all already touched by the affected patients. Even if there are many vaccines available to defend against COVID-19 across the globe, still there is a high necessity to consider the precautions for avoiding infection. The major aspect for preventing the infection using a facemask that protects a person from entering the virus into the body through the nose and mouth of a person. The other major aspect for preventing the infection by washing hands using and washes or sanitizers. In the present article, the major and popular advanced technique used for image-based detection and classification is the Deep Learning-based VGG-16 technique. The deep learning technology is used in the analysis to identify face mask recognition and determine whether or not the individual is carrying a facemask. VGG-16 is the CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) framework is utilized for the present study. The Kaggle dataset considered consists of 25,000 images with each of the images having 225 × 225 pixels as the resolution, and the proposed model performed with a 96% accuracy. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The spin-structure functions $g_1$ and $g_2$, and the spin-dependent partial cross-section $\sigma_\mathrm{TT}$ have been extracted from the polarized cross-sections differences, $\Delta \sigma_{\parallel}\hspace{-0.06cm}\left(\nu,Q^{2}\right)$ and $\Delta \sigma_{\perp}\hspace{-0.06cm}\left(\nu,Q^{2}\right)$ measured for the $\vec{^\textrm{3}\textrm{He}}(\vec{\textrm{e}},\textrm{e}')\textrm{X}$ reaction, in the E97-110 experiment at Jefferson Lab. Polarized electrons with energies from 1.147 to 4.404 GeV were scattered at angles of 6$^{\circ}$ and 9$^{\circ}$ from a longitudinally or transversely polarized $^{3}$He target. The data cover the kinematic regions of the quasi-elastic, resonance production and beyond. From the extracted spin-structure functions, the first moments $\overline{\Gamma_1}\hspace{-0.06cm}\left(Q^{2}\right)$, $\Gamma_2\hspace{-0.06cm}\left(Q^{2}\right)$ and $I_{\mathrm{TT}}\hspace{-0.06cm}\left(Q^{2}\right)$ are evaluated with high precision for the neutron in the $Q^2$ range from 0.035 to 0.24~GeV$^{2}$. The comparison of the data and the chiral effective field theory predictions reveals the importance of proper treatment of the $\Delta$ degree of freedom for spin observables., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, 3 tables. The exclusive electroproduction process ep→e′p′π0 was measured in the range of photon virtualities Q2=0.4–1.0GeV2 and the invariant mass range of the pπ0 system of W=1.1–1.8 GeV. These kinematics are covered in exclusive π0 electroproduction off the proton with nearly complete angular coverage in the pπ0 center-of-mass system and with high statistical accuracy. Nearly 36 000 cross-section points were measured, and the structure functions σT+eσL,σLT, and σTT, were extracted via fitting the ϕπ0 dependence of the cross section. A Legendre polynomial expansion analysis demonstrates the sensitivity of our data to high-lying N* and Δ* resonances with M>1.6 GeV. As part of a broad effort to determine the electrocouplings of the N* and Δ* resonances using both single- and double-pion electroproduction, this dataset is crucial for the reliable extraction of the high-lying resonance electrocouplings from the combined isospin analysis of the Nπ and π+π−p channels.

BackgroundTraumatic carotid artery thrombosis is uncommon and it usually results from penetrating injuries and less commonly secondary to blunt trauma. It can lead to delayed clinical presentation, which leads to delay in the diagnosis. Soldiers in combat scenario also can present with such an illness, which results from varied modes of injuries. Our case illustrates an unusual cause of carotid thrombosis.Case presentationOur patient is a 37-year-old soldier who developed neck pain and headache following a 5 km training run with rifle on the shoulder and subsequently developed left upper limb weakness and evaluation revealed extracranial right internal carotid thrombosis. He was managed with anticoagulants and antiplatelets with complete resolution of the thrombosis and complete recovery of the weakness.ConclusionBlunt trauma to the neck in the form of carrying a rifle for a prolonged duration can result in injury to the carotid vessels leading to delayed neurological presentation. Educating the troops regarding such a mode of illness will prevent such a catastrophic nature of vascular injury resulting in ischaemic stroke.

We report on a precise measurement of double-polarization asymmetries in electron-induced breakup of He3 proceeding to pd and ppn final states, performed in quasi-elastic kinematics at Q2=0.25(GeV/c)2 for missing momenta up to 250MeV/c. These observables represent highly sensitive tools to investigate the electromagnetic and spin structure of He3 and the relative importance of two- and three-body effects involved in the breakup reaction dynamics. The measured asymmetries cannot be satisfactorily reproduced by state-of-the-art calculations of He3 unless their three-body segment is adjusted, indicating that the spin-dependent part of the nuclear interaction governing the three-body breakup process is much smaller than previously thought.

We have performed precision measurements of the double-spin virtual-photon asymmetry A 1 on the neutron in the deep inelastic scattering regime, using an open-geometry, large-acceptance spectrometer and a longitudinally and transversely polarized 3 He target. Our data cover a wide kinematic range 0.277 ≤ x ≤ 0.548 at an average Q 2 value of 3.078 (GeV/c) 2 , doubling the available high-precision neutron data in this x range. We have combined our results with world data on proton targets to make a leading-order extraction of the ratio of polarized-to-unpolarized parton distribution functions for up quarks and for down quarks in the same kinematic range. Our data are consistent with a previous observation of an A 1 n zero crossing near x = 0.5 . We find no evidence of a transition to a positive slope in ( Δ d + Δ d ¯ ) / ( d + d ¯ ) up to x = 0.548 .

A cost-effective, Automated Unified System for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) booking, leakage detection, real time gas monitoring system and automatic controlling of LPG regulator is proposed in this paper. The aim of this paper is to monitor for LPG leakage to avoid fire accidents providing house safety feature where security has been an important issue. The system detects the leakage of the LPG using gas sensor MQ6 and alerts the consumer about the gas leakage by sending SMS using GSM module and simultaneously activating the alarm and exhaust fan. The system additionally provides the automatically controlling of LPG regulator. To avoid the blast this system will disconnect the main power supply using relay. The additional advantage of the system is that it continuously monitors the level of the LPG present in the cylinder using weight sensor and automatically books the cylinder using a GSM module.

$[Background]$ Measurements of the neutron charge form factor, $G^n_E$, are challenging due to the fact that the neutron has no net charge. In addition, measurements of the neutron form factors must use nuclear targets which require accurately accounting for nuclear effects. Extracting $G^n_E$ with different targets and techniques provides an important test of our handling of these effects. $[Purpose]$ The goal of the measurement was to use an inclusive asymmetry measurement technique to extract the neutron charge form factor at a four-momentum transfer of $1~(\rm{GeV/c})^2$. This technique has very different systematic uncertainties than traditional exclusive measurements and thus serves as an independent check of whether nuclear effects have been taken into account correctly. $[Method]$ The inclusive quasi-elastic reaction $^3\overrightarrow{\rm{He}}(\overrightarrow{e},e')$ was measured at Jefferson Lab. The neutron electric form factor, $G_E^n$, was extracted at $Q^2 = 0.98~(\rm{GeV/c})^2$ from ratios of electron-polarization asymmetries measured for two orthogonal target spin orientations. This $Q^2$ is high enough that the sensitivity to $G_E^n$ is not overwhelmed by the neutron magnetic contribution, and yet low enough that explicit neutron detection is not required to suppress pion production. $[Results]$ The neutron electric form factor, $G_E^n$, was determined to be $0.0414\pm0.0077\;{(stat)}\pm0.0022\;{(syst)}$; providing the first high precision inclusive extraction of the neutron's charge form factor. $[Conclusions]$ The use of the inclusive quasi-elastic $^3\overrightarrow{\rm{He}}(\overrightarrow{e},e')$ with a four-momentum transfer near $1~(\rm{GeV/c})^2$ has been used to provide a unique measurement of $G^n_E$. This new result provides a systematically independent validation of the exclusive extraction technique results., 7 pages, 2 figures, 2 tables

Symmetry permeates nature and is fundamental to all laws of physics. One example is parity (mirror) symmetry, which implies that flipping left and right does not change the laws of physics. Laws for electromagnetism, gravity and the subatomic strong force respect parity symmetry, but the subatomic weak force does not. Historically, parity violation in electron scattering has been important in establishing (and now testing) the standard model of particle physics. One particular set of quantities accessible through measurements of parity-violating electron scattering are the effective weak couplings C2q, sensitive to the quarks' chirality preference when participating in the weak force, which have been measured directly only once in the past 40 years. Here we report a measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in electron-quark scattering, which yields a determination of 2C2u - C2d (where u and d denote up and down quarks, respectively) with a precision increased by a factor of five relative to the earlier result. These results provide evidence with greater than 95 per cent confidence that the C2q couplings are non-zero, as predicted by the electroweak theory. They lead to constraints on new parity-violating interactions beyond the standard model, particularly those due to quark chirality. Whereas contemporary particle physics research is focused on high-energy colliders such as the Large Hadron Collider, our results provide specific chirality information on electroweak theory that is difficult to obtain at high energies. Our measurement is relatively free of ambiguity in its interpretation, and opens the door to even more precise measurements in the future.

Due to the lack of free neutron targets, studies of the structure of the neutron are typically made by scattering electrons from either 2H or 3He targets. In order to extract useful neutron information from a 3He target, one must understand how the neutron in a 3He system differs from a free neutron by taking into account nuclear effects such as final state interactions and meson exchange currents. The target single spin asymmetry A y 0 is an ideal probe of such effects, as any deviation from zero indicates effects beyond plane wave impulse approximation. New measurements of the target single spin asymmetry A y 0 at Q 2 of 0.46 and 0.96 (GeV/ c ) 2 were made at Jefferson Lab using the quasi-elastic He ↑ 3 ( e , e ′ n ) reaction. Our measured asymmetry decreases rapidly, from > 20 % at Q 2 = 0.46 (GeV/ c ) 2 to nearly zero at Q 2 = 0.96 (GeV / c ) 2 , demonstrating the fall-off of the reaction mechanism effects as Q 2 increases. We also observed a small ϵ-dependent increase in A y 0 compared to previous measurements, particularly at moderate Q 2 . This indicates that upcoming high Q 2 measurements from the Jefferson Lab 12 GeV program can cleanly probe neutron structure from polarized 3He using plane wave impulse approximation.

We report on the results of the E06-014 experiment performed at Jefferson Lab in Hall A, where a precision measurement of the twist-3 matrix element d_2 of the neutron (d^n_2) was conducted. The quantity dn_2 represents the average color Lorentz force a struck quark experiences in a deep inelastic electron scattering event off a neutron due to its interaction with the hadronizing remnants. This color force was determined from a linear combination of the third moments of the ^3He spin structure functions, g_1 and g_2, after nuclear corrections had been applied to these moments. The structure functions were obtained from a measurement of the unpolarized cross section and of double-spin asymmetries in the scattering of a longitudinally polarized electron beam from a transversely and a longitudinally polarized ^3He target. The measurement kinematics included two average Q^2 bins of 3.2 GeV^2 and 4.3 GeV^2, and Bjorken-x 0.25≤ x ≤0.90 covering the deep inelastic and resonance regions. We have found that d^n_2 is small and negative for ⟨Q^2⟩=3.2 GeV^2, and even smaller for ⟨Q^2⟩=4.3 GeV^2, consistent with the results of a lattice QCD calculation. The twist-4 matrix element f^n_2 was extracted by combining our measured d^n_2 with the world data on the first moment in x of g^n_1, Γ^n_1. We found f^n_2 to be roughly an order of magnitude larger than dn2. Utilizing the extracted d^n_2 and f^n_2 data, we separated the Lorentz color force into its electric and magnetic components, F^(y,n)_E and F^(y,n)_B, and found them to be equal and opposite in magnitude, in agreement with the predictions from an instanton model but not with those from QCD sum rules. Furthermore, using the measured double-spin asymmetries, we have extracted the virtual photon-nucleon asymmetry on the neutron A^n_1, the structure function ratio g^n_1/F^n_1, and the quark ratios (Δu+Δu)/(u+u) and (Δd+Δd)/(d+d). These results were found to be consistent with deep-inelastic scattering world data and with the prediction of the constituent quark model but at odds with the perturbative quantum chromodynamics predictions at large x.

Hertz's theory of contact stresses was applied to predict the splitting of guar seeds during uni-axial compressive loading between 2 rigid parallel plates. The apparent modulus of elasticity of guar seeds varied between 296.18 and 116.19 MPa when force was applied normal to hilum joint (horizontal position), whereas it varied between 171.86 and 54.18 MPa when force was applied in the direction of hilum joint (vertical position) with in moisture content range of 5.16% to 15.28% (d.b.). At higher moisture contents, the seeds yielded after considerable deformation, thus showing ductile nature. Distribution of stresses below the point of contact were plotted to predict the location of critical point, which was found at 0.44 to 0.64 mm and 0.37 to 0.53 mm below the contact point in vertical and horizontal loading, respectively, depending upon moisture content. The separation of cotyledons from each other initiated before yielding of cotyledons and thus splitting of seed took place. The relationships between apparent modulus of elasticity, principal stresses with moisture content were described using second-order polynomial equations and validated experimentally. Practical Application: Manufacture of guar gum powder requires dehulling and splitting of guar seeds. This article describes splitting behavior of guar seeds under compressive loading. Results of this study may be used for design of dehulling and splitting systems of guar seeds.

A high-finesse Fabry-Perot cavity with a frequency-doubled continuous wave green laser (532~nm) has been built and installed in Hall A of Jefferson Lab for high precision Compton polarimetry. The infrared (1064~nm) beam from a ytterbium-doped fiber amplifier seeded by a Nd:YAG nonplanar ring oscillator laser is frequency doubled in a single-pass periodically poled MgO:LiNbO$_{3}$ crystal. The maximum achieved green power at 5 W IR pump power is 1.74 W with a total conversion efficiency of 34.8\%. The green beam is injected into the optical resonant cavity and enhanced up to 3.7~kW with a corresponding enhancement of 3800. The polarization transfer function has been measured in order to determine the intra-cavity circular laser polarization within a measurement uncertainty of 0.7\%. The PREx experiment at Jefferson Lab used this system for the first time and achieved 1.0\% precision in polarization measurements of an electron beam with energy and current of 1.0~GeV and 50~$\mu$A., Comment: 20 pages, 22 figures, revised version of arXiv:1601.00251v1, submitted to NIMA

We report the first measurement of the target single-spin asymmetry, A(y), in quasielastic scattering from the inclusive reaction (3)He(↑)(e,e') on a (3)He gas target polarized normal to the lepton scattering plane. Assuming time-reversal invariance, this asymmetry is strictly zero for one-photon exchange. A nonzero A(y) can arise from the interference between the one- and two-photon exchange processes which is sensitive to the details of the substructure of the nucleon. An experiment recently completed at Jefferson Lab yielded asymmetries with high statistical precision at Q(2)=0.13, 0.46, and 0.97 GeV(2). These measurements demonstrate, for the first time, that the (3)He asymmetry is clearly nonzero and negative at the 4σ-9σ level. Using measured proton-to-(3)He cross-section ratios and the effective polarization approximation, neutron asymmetries of -(1-3)% were obtained. The neutron asymmetry at high Q(2) is related to moments of the generalized parton distributions (GPDs). Our measured neutron asymmetry at Q(2)=0.97 GeV(2) agrees well with a prediction based on two-photon exchange using a GPD model and thus provides a new, independent constraint on these distributions.

We report the measurement of beam-target double-spin asymmetries ALT in the inclusive production of identified hadrons, e +³He↑ → h + X, using a longitudinally polarized 5.9 GeV electron beam and a transversely polarized ³He target. Hadrons (π±, K± and proton) were detected at 16° with an average momentum h>=2.35 GeV/c and a transverse momentum (pT) coverage from 0.60 to 0.68 GeV/c. Asymmetries from the ³He target were observed to be non-zero for π± production when the target was polarized transversely in the horizontal plane. The π⁺ and π⁻ asymmetries have opposite signs, analogous to the behavior of ALT in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering.

Background: In the absence of accurate data on the free two-body hyperon-nucleon interaction, the spectra of hypernuclei provides information on the details of the effective hyperon-nucleon interaction.Purpose: To obtain a high-resolution binding-energy spectrum for the ${}^{9}\mathrm{Be}(e,{e}^{\ensuremath{'}}{K}^{+})_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{9}\mathrm{Li}$ reaction.Method: Electroproduction of the hypernucleus $_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{9}\mathrm{Li}$ has been studied for the first time with sub-MeV energy resolution in Hall A at Jefferson Lab on a $^{9}\mathrm{Be}$ target. In order to increase the counting rate and to provide unambiguous kaon identification, two superconducting septum magnets and a ring imaging Cherenkov detector were added to the Hall A standard equipment. Results: The cross section to low-lying states of $_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{9}\mathrm{Li}$ is concentrated within 3 MeV of the ground state and can be fit with four peaks. The positions of the doublets agree with theory while a disagreement could exist with respect to the relative strengths of the peaks in the doublets. The $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ separation energy, ${B}_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$, of $8.36\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08$ (stat.) $\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08$ (syst.) MeV was measured, in agreement with an earlier experiment.

We report the most precise measurement to date of a parity-violating asymmetry in elastic electron–proton scattering. The measurement was carried out with a beam energy of 3.03 GeV and a scattering angle 〈 θ lab 〉 = 6.0 ○ , with the result A PV = ( − 1.14 ± 0.24 ( stat ) ± 0.06 ( syst ) ) × 10 −6 . From this we extract, at Q 2 = 0.099 GeV 2 , the strange form factor combination G E s + 0.080 G M s = 0.030 ± 0.025 ( stat ) ± 0.006 ( syst ) ± 0.012 ( FF ) where the first two errors are experimental and the last error is due to the uncertainty in the neutron electromagnetic form factor. This result significantly improves current knowledge of G E s and G M s at Q 2 ∼ 0.1 GeV 2 . A consistent picture emerges when several measurements at about the same Q 2 value are combined: G E s is consistent with zero while positive values are favored for G M s , though G E s = G M s = 0 is compatible with the data at 95% C.L.

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) and sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas Lam) are important in ensuring nutritional and food security to a large population in the developing countries. Both these crops are cultivated and utilized widely in India. Whilst cassava, besides its food use, is important as an industrial raw material for starch and sago production, sweetpotato is mainly used as human food. Value addition in these crops is necessitated by rapid post-harvest spoilage. In view of the projected increase in global demand for processed products from root crops, research at CTCRI is focused mainly on product diversification and value addition. Value-added food products like semolina, flour-based fried products and fried chips have been developed from cassava. Sweetpotato-based food products include jam, pickles and soft drinks. Cassava silage as cattle feed and fibrous waste-based broiler feed are value-added products for the feed sector. Industrial products for mini-agribusinesses include wafers, gums and liquid adhesives. Immense scope also exists in biotechnological intervention to produce chemicals, enzymes, eco-friendly detergents, etc. The developmental elasticity of cassava and sweetpotato can be enhanced through wider awareness of their potential for starting agri-based units.

We present a precise measurement of double-polarization asymmetries in the 3He(e,e'd) reaction. This particular process is a uniquely sensitive probe of hadron dynamics in 3He and the structure of the underlying electromagnetic currents. The measurements have been performed in and around quasi-elastic kinematics at Q2=0.25(GeV/c)2 for missing momenta up to 270MeV/c. The asymmetries are in fair agreement with the state-of-the-art calculations in terms of their functional dependencies on pm and omega, but are systematically offset. Beyond the region of the quasi-elastic peak, the discrepancies become even more pronounced. Thus, our measurements have been able to reveal deficiencies in the most sophisticated calculations of the three-body nuclear system, and indicate that further refinement in the treatment of their two- and/or three-body dynamics is required.

An experiment to measure single-spin asymmetries of semi-inclusive production of charged pions in deep-inelastic scattering on a transversely polarized $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ target was performed at Jefferson Laboratory in the kinematic region of $0.16lxl0.35$ and $1.4l{Q}^{2}l2.7$ ${\mathrm{GeV}}^{2}$. Pretzelosity asymmetries on $^{3}\mathrm{He}$, which are expressed as the convolution of the ${h}_{1T}^{\ensuremath{\perp}}$ transverse-momentum-dependent distribution functions and the Collins fragmentation functions in the leading order, were measured for the first time. Under the effective polarization approximation, we extracted the corresponding neutron asymmetries from the measured $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ asymmetries and cross-section ratios between the proton and $^{3}\mathrm{He}$. Our results show that both ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ on $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ and on neutron pretzelosity asymmetries are consistent with zero within experimental uncertainties.

We report the first measurement of the target-normal single-spin asymmetry in deep-inelastic scattering from the inclusive reaction ^3He^↑ (e,e′) X on a polarized ^3He gas target. Assuming time-reversal invariance, this asymmetry is strictly zero in the Born approximation but can be nonzero if two-photon-exchange contributions are included. The experiment, conducted at Jefferson Lab using a 5.89 GeV electron beam, covers a range of 1.7 2 GeV, which is nonzero at the 2.89σ level. Our measured asymmetry agrees both in sign and magnitude with a two-photon-exchange model prediction that uses input from the Sivers transverse momentum distribution obtained from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering.

Double-spin asymmetries and absolute cross sections were measured at large Bjorken x (0.25≤x≤0.90), in both the deep-inelastic and resonance regions, by scattering longitudinally polarized electrons at beam energies of 4.7 and 5.9 GeV from a transversely and longitudinally polarized ^3He target. In this dedicated experiment, the spin structure function g^3He_2 was determined with precision at large x, and the neutron twist-3 matrix element dn2 was measured at ⟨Q2⟩ of 3.21 and 4.32 GeV^2/c^2, with an absolute precision of about 10^(−5). Our results are found to be in agreement with lattice QCD calculations and resolve the disagreement found with previous data at ⟨Q^2⟩=5 GeV^2/c^2. Combining d^n_2 and a newly extracted twist-4 matrix element f^n_2, the average neutron color electric and magnetic forces were extracted and found to be of opposite sign and about 30 MeV/fm in magnitude.

This study addresses questions related to flood-control operating procedures followed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District. Application is presented of a mixed integer linear programming model for a reservoir system analysis of three U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' projects on the Iowa and Des Moines rivers. A strategy for evaluating the value of coordinated reservoir operations is developed. Results of this study suggest that operating Coralville Reservoir, on the Iowa River, for flood control on the Mississippi River does not provide appreciable benefits and, therefore, an operation plan coordinating releases from Coralville Reservoir with the two reservoirs on the Des Moines River may be unnecessary. Damage-minimizing results were obtained by operating the three reservoirs independently for 8 of the 10 largest flood events on record. Also, a review of the operating procedures for the flood of 1993 illustrates how much damage could have been reduced if inflows could be predicted month...

The ratio of the proton's elastic electromagnetic form factors was obtained by measuring the transverse and longitudinal polarizations of recoiling protons from the elastic scattering of polarized electrons with unpolarized protons. The ratio of the electric to magnetic form factor is proportional to the ratio of the transverse to longitudinal recoil polarizations. The ratio was measured over a range of four-momentum transfer squared between 0.5 and 3.5 GeV-squared. Simultaneous measurement of transverse and longitudinal polarizations in a polarimeter provides good control of the systematic uncertainty. The results for the ratio of the proton's electric to magnetic form factors show a systematic decrease with increasing four momentum squared, indicating for the first time a marked difference in the spatial distribution of charge and magnetization currents in the proton.

We report on parity-violating asymmetries in the nucleon resonance region measured using $5 - 6$ GeV longitudinally polarized electrons scattering off an unpolarized deuterium target. These results are the first parity-violating asymmetry data in the resonance region beyond the $\Delta(1232)$, and provide a verification of quark-hadron duality in the nucleon electroweak $\gamma Z$ interference structure functions at the (10-15)% level. The results are of particular interest to models relevant for calculating the $\gamma Z$ box-diagram corrections to elastic parity-violating electron scattering measurements., Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, to appear in Phys. The five-fold differential cross section for the 12C(e,e'p)11B reaction was determined over a missing momentum range of 200-400 MeV/c, in a kinematics regime with Bjorken x > 1 and Q2 = 2.0 (GeV/c)2. A comparison of the results and theoretical models and previous lower missing momentum data is shown. The theoretical calculations agree well with the data up to a missing momentum value of 325 MeV/c and then diverge for larger missing momenta. The extracted distorted momentum distribution is shown to be consistent with previous data and extends the range of available data up to 400 MeV/c., 12 pages, 1 table and 3 figures for submission to Journal Physics G

We report a new calibration of the polarimeter POMME for energies between 1.05 and 2.40 GeV using polarized proton beams at the Laboratoire National Saturne. A 16 parameter and a new 14 parameter empirical formula have been used to fit both the angular and energy dependencies of the inclusive proton-carbon analyzing power data between 0.80 and 2.40 GeV. Both fits have very good chi-square, 1.20 per degree of freedom for the former, and 1.05 for the latter. The parameters from these fits can be used to predict the angular distribution of the pC analyzing power at any energy within the energy range of the fits.

In integrated hydrometeorological system for flow forecasting has been designed and implemented for real-time use in an operational environment at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District, Illinois. The system operates routinely with data collected by real-time data-collection platforms and stored in a real-time database. Forecasts are based on coupled hydrological and meteorological models, and a state estimator that updates system states in real time using all current data. Five soil-water models are used to estimate rainfall abstractions: a generic API model, the modified Sacramento soil-moisture accounting model, and three soil-water options in the HEC-1 model. Initial sensitivity analysis of the short-term system forecasts with respect to (1) The form and parameters of the soil-water model; and (2) state-updating components that indicate robust system behavior in short-term real-time flow prediction. In addition, sensitivity analysis shows that when updating is performed using all available operational data, the differences in results among soil-water models are small. Thus, selection of a soil-water model to estimate hydrologic abstractions may be based on user familiarity with a certain model and the estimation of its parameters.

Branchial apparatus consists of six pairs of mesodermal arches. Invagination of endoderm from inside and ectoderm from outside are known as pharyngeal pouch and branchial clefts respectively. Incomplete fusion of these structure lead to formation of branchial sinus/ fistula. Anomoly of second arch is commonest and manifests as Branchial sinus. We present such a case in a 18 years old boy.

Dermoid cysts are commonly found through out the body . In the oral cavity, though rare, dermoids commonly present sublingually. Typically, they present as slow growing masses, causing elevation of the tongue, interference with speech and swallowing. We report a case of sublingual dermoid cyst in a two years old female child.

We have measured the beam-normal single-spin asymmetry $A_n$ in the elastic scattering of 1-3 GeV transversely polarized electrons from $^1$H and for the first time from $^4$He, $^{12}$C, and $^{208}$Pb. For $^1$H, $^4$He and $^{12}$C, the measurements are in agreement with calculations that relate $A_n$ to the imaginary part of the two-photon exchange amplitude including inelastic intermediate states. Surprisingly, the $^{208}$Pb result is significantly smaller than the corresponding prediction using the same formalism. These results suggest that a systematic set of new $A_n$ measurements might emerge as a new and sensitive probe of the structure of heavy nuclei., 5 pages, 3 figures, accepted by PRL. v3: fixed one author name and affiliation, otherwise no change
