Abstract: This article presents an analysis and the resulting limits on light dark matter inelastically scattering off of electrons, and on dark photon and axion-like particle absorption, using a second-generation SuperCDMS high-voltage eV-resolution detector. The 0.93 gram Si detector achieved a 3 eV phonon energy resolution; for a detector bias of 100 V, this corresponds to a charge resolution of 3% of a single electron-hole pair. The energy spectrum is reported from a blind analysis with 1.2 gram-days of exposure acquired in an above-ground laboratory. With charge carrier trapping and impact ionization effects incorporated into the dark matter signal models, the dark matter-electron cross section $\bar{\sigma}_{e}$ is constrained for dark matter masses from 0.5--$10^{4} $MeV$/c^{2}$; in the mass range from 1.2--50 eV$/c^{2}$ the dark photon kinetic mixing parameter $\varepsilon$ and the axioelectric coupling constant $g_{ae}$ are constrained. The minimum 90% confidence-level upper limits within the above mentioned mass ranges are $\bar{\sigma}_{e}\,=\,8.7\times10^{-34}$ cm$^{2}$, $\varepsilon\,=\,3.3\times10^{-14}$, and $g_{ae}\,=\,1.0\times10^{-9}$., Comment: 5 pages + title and references, 3 figures and 1 table

Abstract: We present an analysis of electron recoils in cryogenic germanium detectors operated during the SuperCDMS Soudan experiment. The data are used to set new constraints on the axioelectric coupling of axionlike particles and the kinetic mixing parameter of dark photons, assuming the respective species constitutes all of the galactic dark matter. This study covers the mass range from 40 eV/c2 to 500 keV/c2 for both candidates, excluding previously untested parameter space for masses below ∼1 keV/c2. For the kinetic mixing of dark photons, values below 10−15 are reached for particle masses around 100 eV/c2; for the axioelectric coupling of axionlike particles, values below 10−12 are reached for particles with masses in the range of a few-hundred eV/c2.

Abstract: We present limits on spin-independent dark matter-nucleon interactions using a $10.6$ $\mathrm{g}$ Si athermal phonon detector with a baseline energy resolution of $\sigma_E=3.86 \pm 0.04$ $(\mathrm{stat.})^{+0.19}_{-0.00}$ $(\mathrm{syst.})$ $\mathrm{eV}$. This exclusion analysis sets the most stringent dark matter-nucleon scattering cross-section limits achieved by a cryogenic detector for dark matter particle masses from $93$ to $140$ $\mathrm{MeV}/c^2$, with a raw exposure of $9.9$ $\mathrm{g}\cdot\mathrm{d}$ acquired at an above-ground facility. Abstract: A model for charge trapping and impact ionization and an experiment to measure these parameters are presented for the SuperCDMS HVeV detector. A procedure to isolate and quantify the main sources of noise (bulk and surface charge leakage) in the measurements is also described. This sets the stage to precisely measure the charge trapping and impact ionization probabilities in order to incorporate this model into future dark matter searches.

Abstract: A 0.93 gram $1{\times}1{\times}0.4$ cm$^3$ SuperCDMS silicon HVeV detector operated at 30 mK was illuminated by 1.91 eV photons using a room temperature pulsed laser coupled to the cryostat via fiber optic. The detector's response under a variety of specific operating conditions was used to study the detector leakage current, charge trapping and impact ionization in the high-purity Si substrate. The measured probabilities for a charge carrier in the detector to undergo charge trapping (0.713 $\pm$ 0.093%) or cause impact ionization (1.576 $\pm$ 0.110%) were found to be nearly independent of bias polarity and charge-carrier type (electron or hole) for substrate biases of $\pm$ 140 V., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: We present direct imaging measurements of charge transport across a 1 cm × 1 cm × 4 mm-thick crystal of high purity silicon (∼15 kΩ-cm) at temperatures of 5 K and 500 mK. We use these data to measure lateral diffusion of electrons and holes as a function of the electric field applied along the [111] crystal axis and to verify our low-temperature Monte Carlo software. The range of field strengths in this paper exceed those used in our previous study [R. A. Moffatt et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. 114, 032104 (2019)] by a factor of 10 and now encompass the region in which some recent silicon dark matter detectors operate [R. Agnese et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 121, 051301 (2018)]. We also report on a phenomenon of surface charge trapping, which can reduce expected charge collection.

Abstract: The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS II) experiment aims to detect dark matter particles that elastically scatter from nuclei in semiconductor detectors. The resulting nuclear-recoil energy depositions are detected by ionization and phonon sensors. Neutrons produce a similar spectrum of low-energy nuclear recoils in such detectors, while most other backgrounds produce electron recoils. The absolute energy scale for nuclear recoils is necessary to interpret results correctly. The energy scale can be determined in CDMS II silicon detectors using neutrons incident from a broad-spectrum $^{252}$Cf source, taking advantage of a prominent resonance in the neutron elastic scattering cross section of silicon at a recoil (neutron) energy near 20 (182) keV. Results indicate that the phonon collection efficiency for nuclear recoils is $4.8^{+0.7}_{-0.9}$% lower than for electron recoils of the same energy. Comparisons of the ionization signals for nuclear recoils to those measured previously by other groups at higher electric fields indicate that the ionization collection efficiency for CDMS II silicon detectors operated at $\sim$4 V/cm is consistent with 100% for nuclear recoils below 20 keV and gradually decreases for larger energies to $\sim$75% at 100 keV. Abstract: Future direct searches for low-mass dark matter particles with germanium detectors, such as SuperCDMS SNOLAB, are expected to be limited by backgrounds from radioactive isotopes activated by cosmogenic radiation inside the germanium. There are limited experimental data available to constrain production rates and a large spread of theoretical predictions. We examine the calculation of expected production rates, and analyze data from the second run of the CDMS low ionization threshold experiment (CDMSlite) to estimate the rates for several isotopes. We model the measured CDMSlite spectrum and fit for contributions from tritium and other isotopes. Using the knowledge of the detector history, these results are converted to cosmogenic production rates at sea level. The production rates in atoms/(kg$\cdot$day) are 74$\pm$9 for $^3$H, 1.5$\pm$0.7 for $^{55}$Fe, 17$\pm$5 for $^{65}$Zn, and 30$\pm$18 for $^{68}$Ge., 14 pages, 10 figures, 5 tables. v5 contains the extended data release (and documentation) of the CDMSlite Run 2 data as ancillary files

Abstract: We present the first limits on inelastic electron-scattering dark matter and dark photon absorption using a prototype SuperCDMS detector having a charge resolution of 0.1 electron-hole pairs (CDMS HVeV, a 0.93 gram CDMS HV device). These electron-recoil limits significantly improve experimental constraints on dark matter particles with masses as low as 1 MeV/$\mathrm{c^2}$. We demonstrate a sensitivity to dark photons competitive with other leading approaches but using substantially less exposure (0.49 gram days). Abstract: We report the result of a blinded search for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) using the majority of the SuperCDMS Soudan data set. With an exposure of 1690 kg d, a single candidate event is observed, consistent with expected backgrounds. This analysis (combined with previous Ge results) sets an upper limit on the spin-independent WIMP–nucleon cross section of 1.4×10−44 (1.0×10−44) cm2 at 46 GeV/c2. These results set the strongest limits for WIMP–germanium-nucleus interactions for masses >12 GeV/c2.

Abstract: We demonstrate that individual electron-hole pairs are resolved in a 1 cm$^2$ by 4 mm thick silicon crystal (0.93 g) operated at $\sim$35 mK. One side of the detector is patterned with two quasiparticle-trap-assisted electro-thermal-feedback transition edge sensor (QET) arrays held near ground potential. The other side contains a bias grid with 20\% coverage. Bias potentials up to $\pm$ 160 V were used in the work reported here. A fiber optic provides 650~nm (1.9 eV) photons that each produce an electron-hole ($e^{-} h^{+}$) pair in the crystal near the grid. The energy of the drifting charges is measured with a phonon sensor noise $\sigma$ $\sim$0.09 $e^{-} h^{+}$ pair. The observed charge quantization is nearly identical for $h^+$'s or $e^-$'s transported across the crystal., Comment: 4 journal pages, 5 figures

Abstract: SuperCDMS SNOLAB will be a next-generation experiment aimed at directly detecting low-mass (< 10 GeV/c$^2$) particles that may constitute dark matter by using cryogenic detectors of two types (HV and iZIP) and two target materials (germanium and silicon). The experiment is being designed with an initial sensitivity to nuclear recoil cross sections ~ 1 x 10$^{-43}$ cm$^2$ for a dark matter particle mass of 1 GeV/c$^2$, and with capacity to continue exploration to both smaller masses and better sensitivities. The phonon sensitivity of the HV detectors will be sufficient to detect nuclear recoils from sub-GeV dark matter. A detailed calibration of the detector response to low energy recoils will be needed to optimize running conditions of the HV detectors and to interpret their data for dark matter searches. Low-activity shielding, and the depth of SNOLAB, will reduce most backgrounds, but cosmogenically produced $^{3}$H and naturally occurring $^{32}$Si will be present in the detectors at some level. Even if these backgrounds are x10 higher than expected, the science reach of the HV detectors would be over three orders of magnitude beyond current results for a dark matter mass of 1 GeV/c$^2$. The iZIP detectors are relatively insensitive to variations in detector response and backgrounds, and will provide better sensitivity for dark matter particle masses (> 5 GeV/c$^2$). The mix of detector types (HV and iZIP), and targets (germanium and silicon), planned for the experiment, as well as flexibility in how the detectors are operated, will allow us to maximize the low-mass reach, and understand the backgrounds that the experiment will encounter. Upgrades to the experiment, perhaps with a variety of ultra-low-background cryogenic detectors, will extend dark matter sensitivity down to the "neutrino floor", where coherent scatters of solar neutrinos become a limiting background., SuperCDMS SNOLAB Projected sensitivity reach

Abstract: The authors present a measurement of the left-right cross-section asymmetry (ALR) for Z boson production by e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} collisions. The measurement includes the final data taken with the SLD detector at the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC) during the period 1996--1998. Using a sample of 383,487 Z decays collected during the 1996-1998 runs they measure the pole-value of the asymmetry, A{sub LR}{sup 0}, to be 0.15056 {+-} 0.00239 which is equivalent to an effective weak mixing angle of sin{sup 2}Sigma{sub W}{sup eff} = 0.23107 {+-} 0.00030. The result for the complete 1992--1998 dataset comprising 537 thousand Z decays is sin{sup 2}Sigma{sub W}{sup eff} = 0.23097 {+-} 0.00027.

Abstract: © 2016 American Physical Society. The CDMS low ionization threshold experiment (CDMSlite) uses cryogenic germanium detectors operated at a relatively high bias voltage to amplify the phonon signal in the search for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs). Results are presented from the second CDMSlite run with an exposure of 70 kg day, which reached an energy threshold for electron recoils as low as 56 eV. A fiducialization cut reduces backgrounds below those previously reported by CDMSlite. New parameter space for the WIMP-nucleon spin-independent cross section is excluded for WIMP masses between 1.6 and 5.5 GeV/c2.

Abstract: The expected final reach of the Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) search experiment CDMS-II by the end of 2007 is a WIMP-nucleon cross-section sensitivity of 2.1×10−44 cm2. To proceed further in our search, we have proposed the SuperCDMS Phase A project that would deploy 42 1-inch thick Ge detectors, at a site deeper than the location of CDMS II, and reach a desired sensitivity goal of 1.3×10−45 cm2. These cross-sections are of interest and are complementary to Supersymmetry searches at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and future linear colliders.

Abstract: The published CDMS analyses have used the shape of the phonon signal rising edge to reject low-ionization-yield surface events which produce acoustic phonons more quickly than bulk events do. To achieve better WIMP sensitivity with future larger exposures, we are using a simplified model of phonon production and propagation to construct event position estimators that help us to find more efficient surface event rejection cuts. We describe this model and the resulting new cuts, and summarize the surface event leakage rates and the sensitivity figures of merit of the five surface event rejection methods developed in the second CDMS II Soudan run data analysis.

Abstract: In the past year and a half, the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) collaboration has been active at the Soudan mine in installing a system for running ZIP detectors that will be used to search for dark matter in the form of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles. Presently, there is an operating cryogenic system, working electronics, a functional data acquisition and analysis system, passive shielding, an active muon veto, and 12 ZIP detectors. Six of the 12 ZIP detectors have been tested in situ and are fully operational with acceptable noise profiles. CDMS is in the process of commissioning the experiment and expects to be making a background measurement by the end of summer 2003.

Abstract: The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) uses low-temperature Ge and Si detectors to search for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) via their elastic-scattering interaction with atomic nuclei while discriminating against interactions of background particles. CDMS data from 1998 and 1999 with a relaxed fiducial-volume cut (resulting in 15.8 kg-days exposure on Ge) are consistent with an earlier analysis with a more restrictive fiducial-volume cut. Twenty-three WIMP candidate events are observed, but these events are consistent with a background from neutrons. Resulting limits on the spin-independent WIMP-nucleon elastic-scattering cross-section are lower than those of any other experiment for WIMPs with masses between 10–70 GeV c −2 . Under the assumptions of standard WIMP interactions and a standard halo, the results are incompatible with the annual-modulation signal of DAMA at 99.99% CL in the asymptotic limit.

Abstract: The DIRC, a novel type of Cherenkov ring imaging device, is the primary hadronic particle identification system for the BABAR detector at the asymmetric B-factory, PEP-II at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. It is based on total internal reflection and uses long, rectangular bars made from synthetic fused silica as Cherenkov radiators and light guides. BABAR began taking data with colliding beams in late spring 1999. This paper describes the performance of the DIRC during the first 2.5 years of operation.

Abstract: We present measurements of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates. The measurement uses a data sample of 23x10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BbarB decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. In this sample, we find events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a CP eigenstate containing charmonium and the flavor of the other neutral B meson is determined from its decay products. The amplitude of the CP-violating asymmetry, which in the standard model is proportional to sin2beta, is derived from the decay time distributions in such events. The result is sin2beta = 0.34+/-0.20 (stat)+/-0.05 (syst).

Abstract: The Ba B ar DIRC runs extremely well at design luminosities, providing excellent PID in both ring and veto modes. Machine backgrounds expected as PEP-II goes to much higher luminosities (10 34 cm 2 ·s −1 or more) in the next 5 years will require faster data acquisition electronics and further shielding of the SOB from low energy machine produced gamma rays.

From the left-right production and decay polar angle asymmetries in leptonic Z decays we measure Ae = 0.1544 +- 0.0060, Amu = 0.142 +- 0.015, and Atau = 0.136 +- 0.015. Combined with our left-right asymmetry measured from hadronic decays, we find Ae = 0.1516 +- 0.0021. Assuming lepton universality, we obtain a combined effective weak mixing angle of sin**2 theta^{eff}_W = 0.23098 +- 0.00026., 13 pages latex, including 1 figure. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett

Abstract: We have made the first direct symmetry tests in the decays of polarized Z0 bosons into fully identified bbg states, collected in the SLD experiment at SLAC. We searched for evidence of parity violation at the bbg vertex by studying the asymmetries in the b-quark polar- and azimuthal-angle distributions, and for evidence of T-odd, CP-even or CP-odd, final-state interactions by measuring angular correlations between the three-jet plane and the Z0 polarization. We found results consistent with standard model expectations and set 95% C. limits on anomalous contributions.

Abstract: We report results of a search for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPS) with the silicon detectors of the CDMS II experiment. This blind analysis of 140.2 kg-days of data taken between July 2007 and September 2008 revealed three WIMP-candidate events with a surface-event background estimate of 0.41^{+0.20}_{-0.08}(stat.)^{+0.28}_{-0.24}(syst.). Abstract: The authors have made the first direct measurement of the parity-violating coupling of the Z{sup 0} boson to the strange quark, A{sub s}, using {approximately}550,000 e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} --> Z{sup 0} --> hadrons event produced with a polarized electron beam and recorded by the SLD experiment. Z{sup 0} s anti-s events were tagged by the absence of B or D hadrons and the presence in each hemisphere of a high-momentum K{sup {+-}} or K{sub s}{sup 0}. From the polar angle distributions of the strangeness-signed thrust axis, the authors obtained A{sub s} = 0.895{+-}0.066(stat.){+-}0.062(syst.). The analyzing power and u anti-u + d anti-d background were constrained using the data.

Abstract: A novel type of Cherenkov ring imaging particle identification system (DIRC) based on the detection of ring images produced in long, fused silica radiator bars is being used to provide hadronic particle identification in the BABAR detector at PEP-II. The DIRC concept, design, fabrication, and initial performance will be briefly described. The DIRC is now fully commissioned, and has been operating in the BABAR detector on beam line at the PEP-II B Factory since late Spring 1999.

Abstract: The DIRC (acronym for Detection of Internally Reflected Cherenkov (light)) is a new type of Cherenkov ring imaging detector based on total internal reflection that is used for the first time in the BaBar detector at the PEP-II ring of SLAC. The Cherenkov radiators are long rectangular bars made of synthetic fused silica, the photon detector is a water tank equipped with an array of 10,752 conventional photomultipliers. The first year operational experience in the BaBar detector is presented using cosmic data and collision data in the energy region of the /spl Upsi/(4S) resonance.

Abstract: The authors have developed a new technique for inclusive reconstruction of the energy of B hadrons. The excellent efficiency and resolution of this technique allow them to make the most precise determination of the b-quark fragmentation function, using e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} {r{underscore}arrow} Z{sup 0} decays recorded in the SLD experiment at SLAC. The authors compared their measurement with the predictions of a number of fragmentation models. The authors excluded several of these models and measured the average scaled energy of weakly-decaying B hadrons to be (x{sub B}) = 0.714{+-}0.005(stat){+-}0.007(syst){+-}0.002 (model-dependence).

Abstract: The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) employs massive ionization- and phonon-mediated detectors to search for WIMPs via their elastic scattering interactions with nuclei while discriminating against interactions by other background particles. Limits on the WIMP-nucleon scattering cross-section, based on 3.1 kg d of exposure, exclude new parameter space in the 10–30 GeV WIMP mass region and also a portion of the region allowed by the DAMA annual modulation search (Bernabei, Phys. Lett. 450 (1999) 448).

Abstract: The parity violation parameters Ab and Ac of the Zb anti-b and Zc anti-c couplings have been measured directly, using the polar angle dependence of the Z0-pole polarized cross sections. Bottom and charmed hadrons were tagged via semileptonic decays. Both the muon and electron identification algorithms take advantage of new multivariate techniques, incorporating for the first time information from the SLD Cerenkov Ring Imaging Detector. Based on the 1993-95 SLD sample of 150,000 Z0 decays produced with highly polarized electron beams, we measure: Ab = 0.910 ± 0.068(stat) ± 0.037(syst) Ac = 0.642 ± 0.110(stat) ± 0.063(syst).

Abstract: We present a direct measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry A{sub b} in the Z{sup 0} to b anti-b coupling using a new technique to distinguish the b and anti-b quarks using charged kaons from B decays. The Z{sup 0} bosons are produced in e{sup +}e{sup -} collisions at the SLC with longitudinally polarized electrons. b anti-b events are selected using a secondary vertex mass tag and A{sub b} is determined from the left-right forward-backward asymmetry. From the 1994-1995 data sample, selected from 100,000 hadronic Z{sup 0} decays, we obtain A{sub b} = 0.855 {+-} 0. 088{sub stat} {+-} 0.102{sub sys}.

Abstract: The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search experiment uses cooled germanium and silicon detectors for a direct search for weakly interacting massive particles in our Galaxy. The novel detectors allow a high degree of background rejection by discriminating between electron and nuclear recoils through the simultaneous measurement of the energy deposited in phonons and ionization. Exposures on the order of one kilogram-day from initial runs of our experiment yield (preliminary) upper limits on the WIMP-nucleon cross section that are comparable to much longer runs of other experiments. Current and future runs promise significant improvement, primarily due to improved detectors and reduced surface-electron backgrounds.

Abstract: A search for ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\nu}}_{e}$ oscillations has been conducted at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility using ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}$ from ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ decay in flight. An excess in the number of beam-related events from the ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{e}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{C}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}X$ inclusive reaction is observed. The excess is too large to be explained by normal ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{e}$ contamination in the beam at a confidence level greater than 99%. If interpreted as an oscillation signal, the observed oscillation probability of $(2.6\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.0\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.5)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$ is consistent with the previously reported ${\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{e}$ oscillation evidence from LSND.

Abstract: A search for ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\nu}}_{e}$ oscillations has been conducted with the LSND apparatus using ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}$ from ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ decay in flight. Two analyses observe a total of 40 beam-on high-energy (60--200 MeV) electron events consistent with the ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{e}\mathrm{C}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}X$ inclusive reaction. This number is significantly above the $21.9\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}2.1$ events expected from the ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{e}$ contamination in the beam and the beam-off background. If interpreted as an oscillation signal, the observed oscillation probability of $(2.6\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.0\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.5)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$ is consistent with the previously reported ${\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{e}$ oscillation evidence from LSND.

Abstract: We present a direct measurement of the parity-violation parameter ${A}_{b}$ using a self-calibrating track-charge technique. In the SLAC Linear Collider Large Detector (SLD) experiment we observe hadronic decays of ${Z}^{0}$ bosons produced in collisions between longitudinally polarized electrons and unpolarized positrons at the SLAC Linear Collider. A sample of $b\overline{b}$ events is selected using the topologically reconstructed mass of $B$ hadrons. From our 1993--1995 sample of approximately 150 000 hadronic ${Z}^{0}$ decays, we obtain ${A}_{b}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0.911\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.045(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.045(\mathrm{syst})$.

Abstract: The Barrel CRID detector has been operating successfully at SLD for the past seven years. It is an important tool for SLD physics analyses. We report results based on long term operational experience of a number of important quantities such as the Cherenkov quality factor, N/sub 0/ of the device, fluid transparency, electron lifetime, single electron detection efficiency, anode wire ageing, TMAE purity, long term transparency, Cherenkov angle resolution and the number of photoelectrons observed per ring.

Abstract: We report a new measurement of Rb = Gamma(Z0->b-bbar) / Gamma(Z0->hadrons) using a double tag technique, where the b hemisphere selection is based on the reconstructed mass of the B hadron decay vertex. The measurement was performed using a sample of 130k hadronic Z0 events, collected with the SLD at the SLC. The method utilizes the 3-D vertexing abilities of the CCD pixel vertex detector and the small stable SLC beams to obtain a high b-tagging efficiency and purity. We obtain Rb=0.2142+/-0.0034(stat.)+/-0.0015(syst.)+/-0.0002(R_c)., 11 pages including 3 eps files

Abstract: Presently the CDMS-II collaboration's Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) search at the Soudan Underground Laboratory sets the most stringent exclusion limits of any WIMP cold dark matter direct-detection experiment. To extend our reach further, to WIMP-nucleon cross-sections in the range 10 - 46 - 10 - 44 cm 2 , we propose SuperCDMS, which would take advantage of a very deep site. One promising site is the recently approved SNOLab facility in Canada. In this paper we will present our overall program and focus on phase A of SuperCDMS.

Abstract: Charged current scattering of ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}$ on ${}^{12}\mathrm{C}$ has been studied using a ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ decay-in-flight ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}$ beam at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility. A sample of 56.8 $\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}9.6$ events satisfying criteria for the exclusive reaction ${}^{12}{\mathrm{C}(\mathrm{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\mu}}}{,\mathrm{\ensuremath{\mu}}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}{)}^{12}{\mathrm{N}}_{\mathrm{g}.\mathrm{s}.}$ was obtained using a large liquid scintillator neutrino detector. The observed flux-averaged cross section $(6.6\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.0\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.0)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}41}{\mathrm{cm}}^{2}$ agrees well with reliable theoretical expectations. A measurement was also obtained for the inclusive cross section to all accessible ${}^{12}\mathrm{N}$ states ${}^{12}\mathrm{C}({\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}},{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}})X.$ This flux-averaged cross section is $(11.2\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.3\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.8)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}40}{\mathrm{cm}}^{2},$ which is approximately half of that given by a recent continuum random-phase approximation calculation.

Abstract: We have measured the $B$ hadron energy distribution in ${Z}^{0}$ decays using a sample of semileptonic $B$ decays recorded in the SLD experiment at SLAC. The energy of each tagged $B$ hadron was reconstructed using information from the lepton and a partially reconstructed charm-decay vertex. We compared the scaled energy distribution with several models of heavy quark fragmentation. The average scaled energy of primary $B$ hadrons was found to be $〈{x}_{{E}_{B}}〉=0.716\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.011(\mathrm{stat}{)}_{\ensuremath{-}0.022}^{+0.021}(\mathrm{syst})$.

Abstract: We present a new measurement of the tau neutrino helicity, hnu and the tau Michel parameters rho, eta, xi and the product delta xi. The analysis exploits the highly polarized SLC electron beam to extract these quantities directly from a measurement of the tau decay spectra, using the 1993-1995 SLD data sample of 4328 e+e- --> Z0 --> tau+tau- events. From the decays tau --> pi nu(tau) and tau --> rho nu(tau) we obtain a combined value hnu=-0.93+/-0.10+/-0.04. The leptonic decay channels yield combined values of rho=0.72+/-0.09+/-0.03, xi=1.05+/-0.35+/-0.04 and delta xi=0.88+/-0.27+/-0.04.

Abstract: We present evidence for leading particle production in hadronic decays of the Z{sup 0} boson to light-flavor jets. A polarized electron beam was used to tag quark and antiquark jets, and a vertex detector was employed to reject heavy-flavor events. Charged hadrons were identified with a Cherenkov ring imaging detector. In the quark jets, more high-momentum p, L, K{sup -}, and {bar K}{sup *0} were observed than their antiparticles, and vice versa for antiquark jets, providing direct evidence that the higher-momentum particles in jets are more likely to carry the primary quark or antiquark from the Z{sup 0} decay, and that s{bar s} production is suppressed in fragmentation. {copyright} {ital 1997} {ital The American Physical Society}

Abstract: Charged current reactions of nu_e on 12C have been studied using a mu decay-at-rest nu_e beam from the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility. More than 500 events from the exclusive reaction 12C + nu_e -> e- + 12N g.s. were measured in a large Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector (LSND). The observed energy dependence of the cross section and the angular distribution of the outgoing electron agree well with theoretical expectations. Measurements are also presented for inclusive transitions to 12N excited states, 12C + nu_e -> e- + 12N and compared with theoretical expectations. Results are consistent with a recent Continuum Random Phase Approximation (CRPA) calculation.

Abstract: We present a new measurement of the left-right cross section asymmetry (ALR) for Z boson production by e+e- collisions. The measurement was performed at a center-of-mass energy of 91.28 GeV with the SLD detector at the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC). The luminosity-weighted average polarization of the SLC electron beam was (77.23+-0.52)%. Using a sample of 93,644 Z decays, we measure the pole-value of the asymmetry, ALR0, to be 0.1512+-0.0042(stat.)+-0.0011(syst.) which is equivalent to an effective weak mixing angle of sin**2(theta_eff)=0.23100+-0.00054(stat.)+-0.00014(syst.).
