The article is devoted to determination of the new drug Aldiecoseptimol (Patent 2562929) effectiveness for the prevention of the after calving complications of gynecological diseases in first-calf heifers, with the calculation of the values of the service period, its impact on the level of reproduction and economic efficiency in comparison with the control. The work was carried out in highly productive herds of the Moscow region with a daily productivity of 35-40 liters of milk, with completed lactation (305) days of 7200-8000 kg of milk. The effectiveness of prevention was evaluated based on the results of the actual service period in the experimental (n=113) and control (n=102) groups as follows: the service period is less than 85 days — the surplus group, SP-85 days-optimal, SP-86-120 days-deficient, SP-121-135 days or more-acutely deficient in the level of reproduction and output of calves. It was found that after preventive treatments, the number of the first-calf heifers with insemination efficiency of up to 85 days increases and makes up 40% of their total number in the experiment compared to 22% in the control (18% in favor of experience). There was a significant reduction in animals with a service period of more than 121 days: from 60% in the control to 30% in the experiment (acutely deficient group). In the experimental group, compared with the control group, the indicator of the level of reproduction and output of calves increased. The obtained data were processed in accordance with a mathematical model developed by us to optimize the planning of the reproduction process and evaluate the economic efficiency of using a new drug. It was found that the new Protocol for processing first-calf heifers in the of after calving period for the prevention of gynecological diseases contributed to an increase in the number of animals in surplus, in terms of reproduction and output of calves, from 22% in the control to 40% in the experiment. The number of animals with an acute service period decreased from 60% in the control group to 30% in the experimental group. The calculated yield of calves in the experimental group increased on average from 79.4% in the control to 95.4% in the experiment per 100 cows, which was 20.2%. The reproduction rate also increased by 20.2% and amounted to 46 heifers per 100 head of cows in the experimental group instead of 38 heifers per 100 head of cows in the control group. Protocol using the new drug Eldecanato proposed for prevention of after calving complications and gynecological diseases in cows, reduced service period and days's barrenness at 77.6 days, and contributed to the increase of output of calves per 100 cows by 20.2%. All this were permitted to increase economic efficiency in the experimental group by 17.7 thousand rubles per 1 cow per year

—Temperature dependences of the third-harmonic power for the (Na0.3K0.7)xFe2 – ySe2 sodium–potassium ferroselenide single crystals have been investigated by nonlinear near-field microwave microscopy. The temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility at a frequency of 100 kHz for this compound has been measured. The experimental results suggest a double-gap structure of the (Na0.3K0.7)xFe2 – ySe2 superconductor.

Groundwater studies in the South Fork Palouse River Basin have been unable to determine recharge sources, subsystem connectivity and flow patterns due to the discontinuity of pathways in the heterogeneous and anisotropic aquifers located in Columbia River flood basalts and interbedded sediments. Major ion, δ18O, δ2H, δ13C, δ34S and temperature for groundwater collected from 28 wells of varying depths indicate a primary recharge source dominated by snowmelt along the eastern basin margin. This recharge can be separated into two distinct sources—a deeper and relatively less altered snowmelt signal (−17.3‰ to −16.8‰ δ18O, −131‰ to −127‰ δ2H, −12.9‰ to −10‰ δ13C, 18–23 °C) and a more altered signal likely derived from a shallower mixture of snowmelt, precipitation and surface water (−16.1‰ to −15.5‰ δ18O, −121‰ to −117‰ δ2H, −15.9‰ to −12.9‰ δ13C, 12–19 °C). A mixing of the shallow and deep source waters is observed within the upper aquifer of the Grande Ronde Formation near Moscow, Idaho, which results in a homogenization of isotope ratios and geochemistry for groundwater at nearly any depth to the west of this mixing zone. This homogenized signal is prevalent in a likely primary productive zone of an intermediate depth in the overall aquifer system.

In order to improve the autopsy usefulness for quality assurance, teaching, and enhanced clinical relevance, a five-day turnaround time for medical autopsies within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina was implemented. Previously, turnaround times averaged approximately 30 days, with almost 20% extending to approximately 60 days. Procedures and processes were reviewed and changes were made in December 2009 in order to achieve an average turnaround time of five days on all medical autopsies, as was previously described in a 1996 article by Adickes and Sims; this is in lieu of the national standard as set by the College of American Pathologists, which recommends final reports be issued in 30 days for the majority of cases and a 60 days for all cases. Subsequently, turnaround times for the 2010–2014 calendar years averaged 4.72 days. Given our existing institutional framework, only minor changes were required to reduce turnaround times. Histology lab support is essential, as is commitment by the resident and attending physicians to review the cases in a timely fashion and order any case-appropriate special stains or immunostains upon review. In the instance where more time-consuming studies are required, the final report may be delayed or the additional studies may be reported in an addendum. The autopsy service has received mostly positive feedback from the clinical faculty, and the accelerated turnaround time improves teaching of residents and medical students on the autopsy rotation. The reduced turnaround time has not affected hospital billing.

Zolpidem is a selective gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor modulator used commonly in the treatment of insomnia. It is effective at initiating sleep and has primary effects similar to benzodiazepines. Zolpidem has gained some notoriety for its association with rare but unusual side effects of compulsive nocturnal activity with anterograde amnesia. Review of the literature documents zolpidem-associated nocturnal activities, which include walking, eating, and more complex activities such as house cleaning or driving. During these events, the sleeper may be able to converse and initially appear normal to an observer, but has limited, if any, recollection of the event. Other literature reviewing zolpidem-related deaths, hospital admissions, falls, and somnambulism found a high rate of concurrent alcohol and/or other drug use than when using Zolpidem alone. We present a case of a 67-year-old woman with a history of somnambulism and amnestic eating during the night after using Zolpidem who was found deceased on the pavement below her opened second story bedroom window. Autopsy revealed nonocclusive food substances in her airways, and head and neck trauma, consistent with a fall from the second story window. Toxicological analysis of peripheral blood revealed Zolpidem (69 ng/mL), pseudoephedrine (150 ng/mL), citalopram/escitalopram (400 ng/mL), and caffeine. Blood and vitreous ethanol concentrations were 194 mg/dL and 160 mg/dL, respectively. Given the decedent's nocturnal activity history associated with Zolpidem, Zolpidem use combined with ethanol was considered contributory to her death.

Basic science and medical journals are increasingly requiring authors to disclose financial interests they have in the subject matter of contributed articles and letters. A comparison of journal conflict-of-interest (COI) policies can provide insight into published reports of low compliance rates and inconsistencies in disclosures by the same author found in different journals. The objective of this article is to compare the criteria, specificity, and scope of COI polices in toxicology and medical journals. We studied the COI policies of 47 toxicology and 180 medical journals catalogued in Ulrich's International Periodicals Directory for criteria of competing interests, types of submissions covered, monetary or time thresholds for reporting, and penalties for violations. Indicators were constructed for rating policy specificity, author discretion, and policy scope. Written COI policies were found in 87% if the toxicology and 84% of the medical journals; 15% and 28% of the toxicology and medical journals, respectively, were explicit about the type of content covered by the policy; 20% and 29%, respectively, included a monetary threshold for reporting purposes; the level of author discretion for reporting COIs was found to be high in 46% of the toxicology and 41% of the medical journals respectively. The level of specificity for more than 75% of the written journal COI policies for both fields was minimal or practically nil, and the scope of more than 80% of the policies was minimal to narrow. Lack of specificity, high author discretion, and restricted scope were found to be prevalent among COI policies of toxicology and medical journals.
