1. A large-scale wind turbine model installed on a floating structure: experimental validation of the numerical design

Abstract

In the field of floating wind energy, large-scale wind turbine models deployed in natural environments represent a key link between small-scale laboratory tests and full-scale prototypes. While implying smaller cost, design and installation effort than a full-scale prototype, large-scale models are technologically very similar to prototypes, can be tested in natural sea and wind conditions, and reduce by a consistent amount the dimensional scaling issues arising in small-scale experiments. In this framework the presented work report the aerodynamic and control system assessment of a 1:15 model of the DTU 10 MW wind turbine installed on a multipurpose-platform model for fish farming and energy production. The model has operated for 6 months in a natural laboratory and has been exposed to fully natural and uncontrolled environmental conditions. Assessment is performed in terms of rotor thrust force and power controller parameters such as rotor speed, blade pitch and rotor power as a function of incoming wind speed.

2. Wind tunnel investigation of the aerodynamic response of two 15 MW floating wind turbines

Abstract

The aerodynamics of floating turbines is complicated by large motions which are permitted by the floating foundation, and the interaction between turbine, wind, and wake is not yet fully understood. The object of this paper is a wind tunnel campaign finalized at characterizing the aerodynamic response of a 1:100 scale model of the IEA 15 MW subjected to imposed platform motion. The turbine aerodynamic response is studied focusing on thrust force, torque, and wake at 2.3D downwind the rotor. Harmonic motion is imposed in the surge, sway, roll, pitch, and yaw directions with several frequencies and amplitudes, which are selected to be representative of the two 15 MW floating turbines developed within the COREWIND project. Thrust and torque show large-amplitude oscillations with surge and pitch motion, the main effect of which is an apparent wind speed; oscillations in thrust and torque are negligible with the other motions, the main effect of which is to alter the wind direction. The thrust and torque response measured in the experiment is compared with predictions of a quasi-steady model, often used for control-related tasks. The agreement is good in the case of low-frequency surge motion, but some differences are seen in the pitch case. The quasi-steady model is not predictive for the response to wave-frequency motion, where blade unsteadiness may take place. Wake was measured imposing motion in five directions with frequency equal to the wave frequency. The axial speed is slightly lower with motion compared to the fixed case. The turbulence kinetic energy is slightly lower too. Wave-frequency motion seems to produce a more stable and lower flow mixing.

Abstract

Abstract In the nineteenth century the idea of a correct surgical approach in oncologic surgery moved towards a good lymphadenectomy. In colon cancer the segment is removed with adjacent mesentery, in gastric cancer or pancreatic cancer a good oncologic resection is obtained with adequate lymphadenectomy. Many guidelines propose a minimal lymph node count that the surgeon must obtain. Therefore, it is essential to understand the adequate extent of lymphadenectomy to be performed in cancer surgery. In this review of the current literature, the focus is on “central vascular ligation”, understood as radical lymphadenectomy in upper and lower gastrointestinal cancer, the evolution of this approach during the years and the improvement of laparoscopic techniques. For what concerns laparoscopic surgery, the main goal is to minimize post-operative trauma introducing the “less is more” concept whilst preserving attention for oncological outcomes. This review will demonstrate the importance of a scientifically based standardization of oncologic gastrointestinal surgery, especially in relation to the expansion of minimally invasive surgery and underlines the importance to further investigate through new randomized trials the role of extended lymphadenectomy in the new era of a multimodal approach, and most importantly, an era where minimally invasive techniques and the idea of “less is more” are becoming the standard thought for the surgical approach.

Abstract

Abstract We present the first model-independent measurement of the CKM unitarity triangle angle ϕ 3 using B ± → D( K S 0 $$ {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0 $$ π + π − π 0) K ± decays, where D indicates either a D 0 or D ¯ $$ \overline{D} $$ 0 meson. Measurements of the strong-phase difference of the D → K S 0 $$ {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0 $$ π + π − π 0 amplitude obtained from CLEO-c data are used as input. This analysis is based on the full Belle data set of 772 × 106 B B ¯ $$ \overline{B} $$ events collected at the Υ(4S) resonance. We obtain ϕ 3 = ( 5.7 − 8.8 + 10.2 $$ {5.7}_{-8.8}^{+10.2} $$ ±3.5±5.7) ° and the suppressed amplitude ratio r B = 0.323±0.147±0.023±0.051. Here the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic, and the third is due to the precision of the strong-phase parameters measured from CLEO-c data. The 95% confidence interval on ϕ 3 is (−29.7, 109.5) ° , which is consistent with the current world average.

Abstract

Abstract We report a new measurement of the e + e − → ϒ(nS)π + π − (n = 1, 2, 3) cross sections at energies from 10.52 to 11.02 GeV using data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. We observe a new structure in the energy dependence of the cross sections; if described by a Breit-Wigner function its mass and width are found to be M = 10752.7 ± 5.9 − 1.1 + 0.7 MeV / c 2 $$ M=\left(10752.7\pm {5.9}_{-1.1}^{+0.7}\right)\mathrm{MeV}/{c}^2 $$ and Γ = 35.5 − 11.3 − 3.3 + 17.6 + 3.9 $$ \Gamma =\left({35.5}_{-11.3\kern0.5em -3.3}^{+17.6+3.9}\right) $$ MeV, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. The global significance of the new structure including systematic uncertainty is 5.2 standard deviations. We also find evidence for the e + e − → ϒ (1S)π + π − process at the energy 10.52 GeV, which is below the B B ¯ $$ \overline{B} $$ threshold.

Abstract

Abstract We report evidence for the charged charmed-strange baryon $$\Xi _{c}(2930)^+$$ Ξc(2930)+ with a signal significance of 3.9$$\sigma $$ σ with systematic errors included. The charged $$\Xi _{c}(2930)^+$$ Ξc(2930)+ is found in its decay to $$K_{S}^{0} \Lambda _{c}^+$$ KS0Λc+ in the substructure of $$\bar{B}^{0} \rightarrow K^{0}_{S} \Lambda _{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda }_{c}^{-}$$ B¯0→KS0Λc+Λ¯c- decays. The measured mass and width are $$[2942.3 \pm 4.4 ({\mathrm{stat.}}) \pm {1.5}({\mathrm{syst.}})]$$ [2942.3±4.4(stat.)±1.5(syst.)] MeV/$$c^{2}$$ c2 and $$[14.8 \pm 8.8({\mathrm{stat.}}) \pm {2.5}({\mathrm{syst.}})]$$ [14.8±8.8(stat.)±2.5(syst.)] MeV, respectively, and the product branching fraction is $$\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^{0} \rightarrow \Xi _c(2930)^{+} \bar{\Lambda }_{c}^{-}) \mathcal{B}(\Xi _c(2930)^{+}\rightarrow \bar{K}^{0} \Lambda _{c}^{+})=[2.37 \pm 0.51 ({\mathrm{stat.}})\pm 0.31({\mathrm{syst.}})]\times 10^{-4}$$ B(B¯0→Ξc(2930)+Λ¯c-)B(Ξc(2930)+→K¯0Λc+)=[2.37±0.51(stat.)±0.31(syst.)]×10-4 . We also measure $$\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^{0} \rightarrow \bar{K}^{0} \Lambda _{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda }_{c}^{-}) = [3.99 \pm 0.76({\mathrm{stat.}}) \pm 0.51({\mathrm{syst.}})] \times 10^{-4}$$ B(B¯0→K¯0Λc+Λ¯c-)=[3.99±0.76(stat.)±0.51(syst.)]×10-4 with greater precision than previous experiments, and present the results of a search for the charmonium-like state Y(4660) and its spin partner, $$Y_{\eta }$$ Yη , in the $$\Lambda _{c}^{+}\bar{\Lambda }_{c}^{-}$$ Λc+Λ¯c- invariant mass spectrum. No clear signals of the Y(4660) or $$Y_{\eta }$$ Yη are observed and the 90% credibility level (C.L.) upper limits on their production rates are determined. These measurements are obtained from a sample of $$(772\pm 11)\times 10^{6} B\bar{B}$$ (772±11)×106BB¯ pairs collected at the $$\Upsilon (4S)$$ Υ(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider.

Abstract We study bottomonium production in association with an $$\eta $$ η meson in $$e^+e^-$$ e+e- annihilations near the $$\varUpsilon (5S)$$ Υ(5S) , at a centre-of-mass energy of $$\sqrt{s}=10.866$$ s=10.866 GeV. The results are based on the 121.4 fb$$^{-1}$$ -1 data sample collected by the Belle experiment at the asymmetric-energy KEKB collider. Only the $$\eta $$ η meson is reconstructed and the missing-mass spectrum of $$\eta $$ η candidates is investigated. We observe the $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \varUpsilon _J(1D)$$ e+e-→ηΥJ(1D) process and find evidence for the $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \varUpsilon (2S)$$ e+e-→ηΥ(2S) process, while no significant signals of $$\varUpsilon (1S)$$ Υ(1S) , $$h_b(1P)$$ hb(1P) , nor $$h_b(2P)$$ hb(2P) are found. Cross sections for the studied processes are reported.

Abstract

Abstract We report the first observation of the $$\Xi _{c}(2930)^0$$ Ξc(2930)0 charmed-strange baryon with a significance greater than 5$$\sigma $$ σ . The $$\Xi _{c}(2930)^0$$ Ξc(2930)0 is found in its decay to $$K^- \Lambda _{c}^+$$ K-Λc+ in $$B^{-} \rightarrow K^{-} \Lambda _{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda }_{c}^{-}$$ B-→K-Λc+Λ¯c- decays. The measured mass and width are $$[2928.9 \pm 3.0(\mathrm stat.)^{+0.9}_{-12.0}(\mathrm syst.)]$$ [2928.9±3.0(stat.)-12.0+0.9(syst.)] MeV/$$c^{2}$$ c2 and $$[19.5 \pm 8.4(\mathrm stat.) ^{+5.9}_{-7.9}(\mathrm syst.)]$$ [19.5±8.4(stat.)-7.9+5.9(syst.)] MeV, respectively, and the product branching fraction is $$\mathcal{B}(B^{-} \rightarrow \Xi _{c}(2930)^0 \bar{\Lambda }_{c}^{-}) \mathcal{B}(\Xi _{c}(2930)^0 \rightarrow K^- \Lambda _{c}^{+})=[1.73 \pm 0.45(\mathrm stat.) \pm 0.21(\mathrm syst.)]\times 10^{-4}$$ B(B-→Ξc(2930)0Λ¯c-)B(Ξc(2930)0→K-Λc+)=[1.73±0.45(stat.)±0.21(syst.)]×10-4 . We also measure $$\mathcal{B}(B^{-} \rightarrow K^{-} \Lambda _{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda }_{c}^{-}) = [4.80 \pm 0.43(\mathrm stat.) \pm 0.60(\mathrm syst.)] \times 10^{-4}$$ B(B-→K-Λc+Λ¯c-)=[4.80±0.43(stat.)±0.60(syst.)]×10-4 with improved precision, and search for the charmonium-like state Y(4660) and its spin partner, $$Y_{\eta }$$ Yη , in the $$\Lambda _{c}^{+}\bar{\Lambda }_{c}^{-}$$ Λc+Λ¯c- invariant mass spectrum. No clear signals of the Y(4660) nor its spin partner are observed and the 90% credibility level (C.L.) upper limits on their production rates are determined. These measurements are obtained from a sample of $$(772\pm 11)\times 10^{6} B\bar{B}$$ (772±11)×106BB¯ pairs collected at the $$\Upsilon (4S)$$ Υ(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy electron–positron collider.

Abstract

During the last decades, high-throughput techniques allowed for the extraction of a huge amount of data from biological systems, unveiling more of their underling complexity. Biological systems encompass a wide range of space and time scales, functioning according to flexible hierarchies of mechanisms making an intertwined and dynamic interplay of regulations. This becomes particularly evident in processes such as ontogenesis, where regulative assets change according to process context and timing, making structural phenotype and architectural complexities emerge from a single cell, through local interactions. The information collected from biological systems are naturally organized according to the functional levels composing the system itself. In systems biology, biological information often comes from overlapping but different scientific domains, each one having its own way of representing phenomena under study. That is, the different parts of the system to be modelled may be described with different formalisms. For a model to have improved accuracy and capability for making a good knowledge base, it is good to comprise different system levels, suitably handling the relative formalisms. Models which are both multi-level and hybrid satisfy both these requirements, making a very useful tool in computational systems biology. 10. Implant-Supported Rehabilitation Using GBR Combined with Bone Graft on a Reconstructed Maxilla with the Fibula Free Flap

Abstract

Alveolar ridge augmentation procedures allow restoring jaw defects due to teeth extractions, periodontal diseases, trauma, or outcomes from a previous surgery. This case report describes a patient suffering from Fibrous Dysplasia of the right upper maxilla surgically reconstructed by fibula free flap. In 2003, four dental implants were placed in the 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, and 1.6 areas. Twelve years later, the onset of peri-implantitis led to the failure of osseointegration with consequent thinning of the fibula flap. To avoid the risk of fracture and to restore the bone volumes necessary for a new implant-prosthetic rehabilitation, we used heterologous biomaterials in combination with a non-reabsorbable membrane, according to the Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) technique. GBR was performed using the Equimatrix® natural bone mineral matrix, Cytoplast™ Ti-150, a non-reabsorbable titanium-reinforced membrane, and four fastening screws to pin the membrane. After six months, the membrane was removed and two Zimmer® implants 3.7×13 mm were placed in the 1.1 and 1.2 areas. A fixed implant-supported prosthesis with a custom-milled titanium bar screwed to the implants was made. Computed tomography (CT) six months after GBR showed a good bone regeneration of 1.5 cm mesiodistal (MD), 1.8 cm buccopalatal (BP), and 2.8 cm in height. The main difficulty of this clinical case concerns the low predictability of success of GBR on a maxillary reconstructed area with a free fibula flap: there is no previous evidence in the literature. Clinical and radiographic exams nowadays show that there is no macroscopic bone reabsorption; however, further research is needed to obtain more information.

Abstract

Background. One-third of Crohn’s disease (CD) patients present perianal fistula. The gold standard in the diagnosis and treatment of symptomatic perianal disease (PAD) in CD is the exploration of the anal canal and distal rectum under anesthesia (EUA). This procedure is mainly conducted as a day case surgery. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to proceed within the ideal timing and any delay may well represent a relevant clinical issue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of outpatient treatment of symptomatic perianal fistulas in CD patients. Methods. All CD patients under regular follow-up at our inflammatory bowel disease referral center, presenting with symptomatic perianal fistulas, were offered surgical consultation. The data of patients were prospectively collected for three years (February 2014 to February 2017) for the purpose of the study. All clinical information, including previous EUA and/or records from MRI and endoscopic ultrasound, was included. Outpatient anal canal and distal rectum exploration and treatment (OE) were undertaken during the specialist surgical consultation. Fistulas were classified according to Parks’s classification; the type of outpatient treatment and compliance of patients were recorded. Pain was assessed by VAS at the time of the procedure and during the first control. Patients were followed up in the surgical clinic in relation to the study. Results. Ninety-two CD patients with symptomatic perianal fistulas had surgical consultation during the study period. OE was offered to all but 18 patients who fulfilled the exclusion criteria or had an extremely severe disease; six patients refused the OE (8.11%). Of the 68 patients undergoing OE, eleven (16.18%) had previous surgery for perianal disease. The OE was accomplished in sixty-one patients (89.71%), while in 7 patients, it was abandoned for scarce compliance. Nine patients (14.75%) underwent drainage of perianal abscess; in 3 of them, it was possible to probe the fistula tract, find the internal orifice, and pass a loose seton. Overall, setonage was performed in 50 patients (81.97%). Rectovaginal setons were placed in 3 patients and more than one seton (up to 3) in 6 cases. Fistulotomy was performed in 4 simple subcutaneous fistulous tracts. Concordance with the preoperative findings was found in 54 out of 61 patients. EUA was scheduled at the time of OE for the 7 patients who did not complete the procedure. All sixty-one patients who had the OE were followed up for a minimum of 12 months. Conclusions. This preliminary study indicates that OE in CD patients with symptomatic perianal fistulas is safe and feasible in a high-volume referral center. It might provide several benefits, including patients’ logistics, reduce or remove patients’ symptoms and discomfort, allow for a timely start of medical therapy, and avoid further complications.

Abstract

Bisphosphonates (BPs) are an important class of drugs, useful in the treatment of some metabolic and oncologic skeletal diseases. BPs have shown a sure effectiveness in the treatment and in the palliative care of such pathologies; on the other hand, an avascular osteonecrosis of the jaws (B-ONJ = Bisphosphonate OsteoNecrosis of the Jaw) has recently been reported as an adverse effect not only of BP intravenous infusions, but also of their prolonged oral administration. B-ONJ normally follows a dental extraction or other surgical procedure in the oral cavity, but it also can develop spontaneously. In the latter case, some systemic risk factors, such as comorbidities and co-therapies or jaw anatomical conditions, can play a leading role in the onset of this pathologic condition. B-ONJ is an uncommon but potentially serious complication of BP therapy that can gravely affect the patient's quality of life, producing significant morbidity. To date, no therapies are completely effective and predictable in the treatment of B-ONJ, therefore prevention should be strongly promoted by sharing knowledge in the involved medical community.

13. Incidence and Intensivity of Postoperative Pain and Periapical Inflammation after Endodontic Treatment with Two Different Instrumentation Techniques

Apical extrusion of infected debris to the periradicular tissues is considered one of the possible factors related to the occurrence of postoperative pain and inflammation. The goal of the present study is to evaluate and compare the incidence and intensity of postoperative pain using two different nickel-titanium instrumentation techniques: a rotary crown-down technique using TF instruments (SybronEndo, Orange, Ca, USA) and a reciprocating single-file technique using Reciproc instruments (VDW, Munich, Germany). Sixty patients requiring endodontic treatment on permanent premolar and molar teeth with non-vital pulps preoperatively were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups of 30 patients each, trying to make the groups very similar, concerning the number of root canals, presence of initial pain and periapical lesions. The teeth in group 1 (n = 30) were treated with a crown-down technique using TF instruments whilst those in group 2 (n = 30) were treated with, a single-file technique using Reciproc 08 25. All canals were shaped, cleaned and obturated in a single-visit. The assessment of postoperative pain was carried out at 3 days by using a visual analogue scale. CAi-square tests and independent-sample t -tests to compare the incidence and intensity of postoperative pain of two groups were carried out. A statistically significant difference was found between the two techniques. When comparing patients who developed no pain, the TF instrumentation technique showed significantly better results ( chi -square = 4.059 P = 0.039). When evaluating patients experiencing severe pain the incidence of symptoms was significantly higher with the Reciproc technique ( chi -square = 7.246 P = 0.023). Since the incidence of preoperative pain, the type of tooth and the pulp and periodontal pathology were quite similar between the two tested groups, and all the other variables (operator, irrigation, and obturation) were identical, the difference in postoperative pain can be mainly related to the different instrumentation technique

Abstract

The success of a dental implant treatment requires hard and soft tissue integration and osseointegration, mechanisms that entail a direct anchorage of the implant in the bone without interposition of soft tissue. Peri-implantitis is defined as an inflammatory reaction of the tissues surrounding a functioning dental implant. During inflammation, a high incidence of autoantibodies has been reported. The hypothesis of the present study is that the occurrence of autoantibodies to self-antigens including extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules and heat shock proteins (HSPs) might affect the dental implant outcome. Therefore, we evaluated the occurrence of antibodies to ECM molecules (Collagen (C) I, III, IV, V, fibronectin, laminin) and HSPs (HSP 27, HSP 65, HSP 90) in subjects with a healthy peri-implant microenvironment (n=29) as compared to patients with peri-implantitis (n=13). We also evaluated the HSP 27 expression in gingival fibroblasts grown in an inflammatory microenvironment. Antibodies to conformational ECM epitopes of CI, CIII and laminin were observed both in subjects with healthy peri-implant conditions and peri-implantitis. Antibodies to more than one HSP linear epitope were found in patients with peri-implantitis but not with healthy peri-implant conditions (p=0.024). Gingival fibroblasts grown in an inflammatory microenvironment showed increased HSP 27 cytoplasmic and plasma membrane expression as compared to fibroblasts grown in normal conditions. Immunity to multiple linear HSPs epitopes in patients with peri-implantitis and not in patients with a healthy peri-implant microenvironment might be relevant for monitoring the implant outcome and help to understand the role of subsets of autoantibodies in implant osseointegration.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate, through a systematic review of the literature, the efficacy of Surgery First Approach (SFA) treatment in adult patients with dento-maxillo-facial alterations, observing the advantages over traditional orthodontic-surgical therapy. This review was carried out according to PRISMA and PICOS approach was used. An electronic and manual search of the Medline (PubMed) databases from 1966 to 2022, Embase from 1980 to 2022 was conducted. The electronic search was performed using the following MeSH terms and text words: [orthognatic surgery AND orthodontics] AND [surgery first approach OR surgery first]. Only studies that included a sample of adult patients (<19 years and >65 years of age) with Class II and III malocclusion, skeletal open bite, OSAS and facial asymmetries were selected. From a total of 847 articles identified, only 16 met the inclusion criteria: 2 Randomized Clinical Trials, 1 prospective non-randomized study, 2 prospective court studies, 3 prospective studies, 3 retrospective court studies, 1 retrospective case-control study, 4 retrospective studies. All 16 studies are in favor of the surgery-first approach for several reasons including: the reduction of total treatment times, an immediate improvement in the aesthetic perception and social aspect in the life of patients, an overlapping skeletal and occlusal stability to the standard approach. Abstract

In the nineteenth century the idea of a correct surgical approach in oncologic surgery moved towards a good lymphadenectomy. In colon cancer the segment is removed with adjacent mesentery, in gastric cancer or pancreatic cancer a good oncologic resection is obtained with adequate lymphadenectomy. Many guidelines propose a minimal lymph node count that the surgeon must obtain. Therefore, it is essential to understand the adequate extent of lymphadenectomy to be performed in cancer surgery. In this review of the current literature, the focus is on “central vascular ligation”, understood as radical lymphadenectomy in upper and lower gastrointestinal cancer, the evolution of this approach during the years and the improvement of laparoscopic techniques. For what concerns laparoscopic surgery, the main goal is to minimize post-operative trauma introducing the “less is more” concept whilst preserving attention for oncological outcomes. This review will demonstrate the importance of a scientifically based standardization of oncologic gastrointestinal surgery, especially in relation to the expansion of minimally invasive surgery and underlines the importance to further investigate through new randomized trials the role of extended lymphadenectomy in the new era of a multimodal approach, and most importantly, an era where minimally invasive techniques and the idea of “less is more” are becoming the standard thought for the surgical approach.

Cross-layer reliability is becoming the preferred solution when reliability is a concern in the design of a microprocessor-based system. Nevertheless, deciding how to distribute the error management across the different layers of the system is a very complex task that requires the support of dedicated frameworks for cross-layer reliability analysis. This paper proposes SyRA, a system-level cross-layer early reliability analysis framework for radiation induced soft errors in memory arrays of microprocessor-based systems. The framework exploits a multi-level hybrid Bayesian model to describe the target system and takes advantage of Bayesian inference to estimate different reliability metrics. SyRA implements several mechanisms and features to deal with the complexity of realistic models and implements a complete tool-chain that scales efficiently with the complexity of the system. The simulation time is significantly lower than micro-architecture level or RTL fault-injection experiments with an accuracy high enough to take effective design decisions. To demonstrate the capability of SyRA, we analyzed the reliability of a set of microprocessor-based systems characterized by different microprocessor architectures (i.e., Intel x86, ARM Cortex-A15, ARM Cortex-A9) running both the Linux operating system or bare metal. Each system under analysis executes different software workloads both from benchmark suites and from real applications.

Abstract

On January 2020, the WHO Director General declared that the outbreak constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. The world has faced a worldwide spread crisis and is still dealing with it. The present paper represents a white paper concerning the tough lessons we have learned from the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, an international and heterogenous multidisciplinary panel of very differentiated people would like to share global experiences and lessons with all interested and especially those responsible for future healthcare decision making. Abstract

Achalasia is a very rare disease characterized by the lack of motor coordination in various phases of contraction-relaxation of esophageal muscles. The aim of the study is to determine the correlation between esophageal achalasia and oral diseases.Thirteen esophageal achalasia patients were assessed for the presence of any potential oral symptoms through a questionnaire. 5 volunteered to be included in the study. The oral health status of these 5 patients was assessed by a clinical oral examination. The oral health status of the included cases was compared to the oral health status data from a published observational study on healthy individuals belonging to the same (Italian) population.Our results show that the number of periodontal pockets with Probing Pocket Dept4 mm is significantly increased, compared to the average of the Italian population; the Bleeding On Probing (BOP) is not related to the Plaque Control Record (PCR); so we can say that the value of periodontal index is not correlated with the value of oral hygiene index.Considering the limitations of a research based on small numbers, it nevertheless seems advisable to assert that there is a correlation between esophageal achalasia and periodontal disease.

Abstract

The high design luminosity of the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider will result in challenging levels of beam-induced backgro\ unds in the interaction region. Understanding and mitigating these backgrounds is critical to the success of the Belle~II experi\ ment. We report on the first background measurements performed after roll-in of the Belle II detector, a period known as SuperKE\ KB Phase 2, utilizing both the BEAST II system of dedicated background detectors and the Belle II detector itself. We also repor\ t on first revisions to the background simulation made in response to our findings. Backgrounds measured include contributions f\ rom synchrotron radiation, beam-gas, Touschek, and injection backgrounds. At the end of Phase 2, single-beam backgrounds origina\ ting from the 4 GeV positron Low Energy Ring (LER) agree reasonably well with simulation, while backgrounds from the 7 GeV elect\ ron High Energy Ring (HER) are approximately one order of magnitude higher than simulation. We extrapolate these backgrounds for\ ward and conclude it is safe to install the Belle II vertex detector., Comment: 22 Pages, 33 figures

Abstract

International audience; Today, the concept of approximation in computing is becoming more and more a "hot topic" to investigate how computing systems can be more energy efficient, faster, and less complex. Intuitively, instead of performing exact computations and, consequently, requiring a high amount of resources, Approximate Computing aims at selectively relaxing the specifications, trading accuracy off for efficiency. While Approximate Computing gives several promises when looking at systems' performance, energy efficiency and complexity, it poses significant challenges regarding the design, the verification, the test and the in-field reliability of Approximate Computing systems. This tutorial paper covers these aspects leveraging the experience of the authors in the field to present state-of-the-art solutions to apply during the different development phases of an Approximate Computing system.

Abstract

The experimental results on the ratios of branching fractions $\mathcal{R}(D) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D \tau^- \bar{\nu}_{\tau})/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell})$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* \tau^- \bar{\nu}_{\tau})/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell})$, where $\ell$ denotes an electron or a muon, show a long-standing discrepancy with the Standard Model predictions, and might hint to a violation of lepton flavor universality. We report a new simultaneous measurement of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$, based on a data sample containing $772 \times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. In this analysis the tag-side $B$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode and the signal-side $\tau$ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are $\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*) = 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within $0.2$, $1.1$ and $0.8$ standard deviations for $\mathcal{R}(D)$, $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$ and their combination, respectively. This work constitutes the most precise measurements of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$ performed to date as well as the first result for $\mathcal{R}(D)$ based on a semileptonic tagging method.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare both the elastic modulus (EM) and the flexural strength (FS) of two materials used in dental prosthesis, namely polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polymethylmethacrylate reinforced with graphene (G-PMMA).Twenty rectangular samples were manufactured by a milling machine and divided into two groups (n= 10/group): Group 1, PMMA; Group 2, G-PMMA. The specimens were subjected to a three-point bending test conducted in the elastic range to evaluate EM. A similar test was protracted until fracture to evaluate FS. Data on EM and FS were statistically analyzed with independent-samples t-test in order to compare the two groups. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) (5.00 kx and 1.00 kx magnification) was used to evaluate the morphology of sample's fracture.Compared to PMMA samples, each G-PMMA sample showed significantly higher values of FS (p0.001) and EM (p0.001). SEM images analysis showed an inhomogeneous fracture morphology in G-PMMA samples.The results show that G-PMMA is a promising material to be used for prosthetic purposes. This is demonstrated by a significant increase in both peak load and bending stiffness, resulting from the bending test performed on G-PMMA samples. Furthermore, the latter exhibit greater homogeneity in their mechanical behavior, supporting the potential value of this material in dental prosthesis.

Abstract

Wind speed is an unknown variable that is very difficult to measure relying on instruments that are commonly present on-board the wind turbine nacelle. The alternative to this approach is to extract a wind speed estimate from other measured quantities. The so-obtained wind speed could then be integrated in common power control algorithms as an additional scheduling variable or it can be exploited to realize feedforward actions to enhance the machine power capture and fatigue life. This work deals with the design of an observer to estimate the spatially-averaged wind speed on the rotor swept area. A linear model of the wind turbine drivetrain based on steady aerodynamics is introduced and used as the base for the wind speed observer. The observer is implemented on the DTU 10MW RWT and a feedforward action based on the estimated effective wind speed is added to the standard feedback controller. FAST co-simulations are performed to evaluate the performances of the implemented system in several wind turbine operating conditions. Its responsiveness is shown to be greater when operating in presence of above-rated winds due to the higher rotor aerodynamic sensitivity. The observer response is instead slower in below-rated winds, where its capability of predicting high-frequency wind gusts is limited by the combination of rotor inertia and generator torque control.

Abstract

Aim and objective The aim of the present case report is to describe the digital management of an implant prosthetic rehabilitation performed by the use of different digital technologies, which allowed to successfully perform in 1 day both the surgical and the prosthetical stages with a minimally invasive approach and a high standard of care. Background Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is affecting dental everyday practice. Clinicians have to reduce the number of patients per day and the time they spend in the dental office. Minimally invasive and digital approaches, with less possible exposure and interaction, are suggested to reduce the risk of infection. Case description The failure of a short-span implant prosthetic rehabilitation combined with pain and mobility of the involved teeth was the main complaint reported by a 78-year-old male patient, who asked an urgent appointment to solve the problem. An intraoral scanner allowed the clinician to immediately take a preliminary digital impression of the arch to be treated. The resulting 3D files were sent by e-mail to the dental technician who provided a digital wax-up for the computerized workflow. Computer-aided implantology (CAI) performed using an in-office cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) allowed clinician to guide the surgical approach in a prosthetic manner. Such an integration inside a well-defined workflow was the key for a successful and rapid treatment. Conclusion By using new innovative digital technology, the treatment was completed in 1 day, reducing the risk of COVID-19 by limiting the number of appointments and reducing contacts in confined environments like the dental office and public transportations. It also helped to reduce materials production and people movement in the treatment of dental emergency. Clinical significance The possibility of performing an effective treatment saving time by using efficient technology and a minimally invasive procedure highlights the importance of digital planning in order to optimize every single step of the treatment. Abstract

Using a data sample of 921.9 fb-1 collected with the Belle detector, we study the process of e+e-→Ds+Ds1(2536)-+c.c. via initial-state radiation. We report the first observation of a vector charmoniumlike state decaying to Ds+Ds1(2536)-+c.c. with a significance of 5.9σ, including systematic uncertainties. The measured mass and width are (4625.9-6.0+6.2(stat)±0.4(syst)) MeV/c2 and (49.8-11.5+13.9(stat)±4.0(syst)) MeV, respectively. The product of the e+e-→Ds+Ds1(2536)-+c.c. cross section and the branching fraction of Ds1(2536)-→D¯*0K- is measured from the DsD¯s1(2536) threshold to 5.59 GeV.

Abstract

Using the data sample of 711 fb-1 of ϒ(4S) on-resonance data taken by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider, we present the first measurements of branching fractions of the decays B-→Λ¯c-Ξc′0, B-→Λ¯c-Ξc(2645)0, and B-→Λ¯c-Ξc(2790)0. The signal yields for these decays are extracted from the recoil mass spectrum of the system recoiling against Λ¯c- baryons in selected B- candidates. The branching fraction of B-→Λ¯c-Ξc(2790)0 is measured to be (1.1±0.4±0.2)×10-3, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The 90% credibility level upper limits on B(B-→Λ¯c-Ξc′0) and B(B-→Λ¯c-Ξc(2645)0) are determined to be 6.5×10-4 and 7.9×10-4, respectively.

Abstract

Multi-purpose offshore structures are very complex systems to be designed as many different requirements have to be taken into account simultaneously. Experimental tests on scaled models can be very useful to verify structural behavior and to validate numerical models. The definition of the scale can play a key role in performing tests as high scales, closer to full-scale, are generally related to more reliable results. The present paper concerns the design of a wind turbine model for a large-scale model of a Multi-purpose offshore Platform developed within the EU project H2020 Blue Growth Farm. This project aims at developing an offshore farm, based on a modular floating structure that integrates wave energy converters and a wind turbine with aquaculture. The scale model of the complete structure will be deployed at the Natural Ocean Engineering Laboratory (NOEL). The paper will focus on the strategies adopted to scale 1:15 the DTU 10 MW wind turbine in order to represent both the main aeroelastic features and all the functionalities of a real machine. The complete design of the machine and its control will be also provided.

Abstract

During the last decades, high-throughput techniques allowed for the extraction of a huge amount of data from biological systems, unveiling more of their underling complexity. Biological systems encompass a wide range of space and time scales, functioning according to flexible hierarchies of mechanisms making an intertwined and dynamic interplay of regulations. This becomes particularly evident in processes such as ontogenesis, where regulative assets change according to process context and timing, making structural phenotype and architectural complexities emerge from a single cell, through local interactions. The information collected from biological systems are naturally organized according to the functional levels composing the system itself. In systems biology, biological information often comes from overlapping but different scientific domains, each one having its own way of representing phenomena under study. That is, the different parts of the system to be modelled may be described with different formalisms. For a model to have improved accuracy and capability for making a good knowledge base, it is good to comprise different system levels, suitably handling the relative formalisms. Models which are both multi-level and hybrid satisfy both these requirements, making a very useful tool in computational systems biology. Abstract

We present the first measurement of the Michel parameters η ‾ and ξκ in the radiative leptonic decay of the τ lepton using 703 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e − collider. The Michel parameters are measured by an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the kinematic information of e + e − → τ + τ − → ( π + π 0 ν ‾ ) ( l − ν ν ‾ γ ) ( l = e or μ ) . The preliminary values of the measured Michel parameters are η ‾ = − 2.0 ± 1.5 ± 0.8 and ξ κ = 0.6 ± 0.4 ± 0.2 , where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract

This work reports the first observation of azimuthal asymmetries around the thrust axis in e+e- annihilation of pairs of back-to-back charged pions in one hemisphere, and π0 and η mesons in the opposite hemisphere. These results are complemented by a new analysis of pairs of back-to-back charged pions. The π0 and η asymmetries rise with the relative momentum z of the detected hadrons as well as with the transverse momentum with respect to the thrust axis. These asymmetries are sensitive to the Collins fragmentation function H1⊥ and provide complementary information to previous measurements with charged pions and kaons in the final state. In particular, the η final states will provide additional information on the flavor structure of H1⊥. This is the first measurement of the explicit transverse-momentum dependence of the Collins fragmentation function from Belle data. It uses a dataset of 980.4 fb-1 collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV.

Abstract

To investigate whether differences in histotype in colon cancer correlate with clinical presentation and if they might influence oncological outcomes and survival. Data regarding colon cancer patients operated both electively or in emergency between 2009 and 2014 were retrospectively collected from a prospectively maintained database and analyzed for the purpose of this study. Rectal cancer was excluded from this analysis. Statistical univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to investigate possible significant variables influencing clinical presentation, as well as oncological outcomes and survival. Data from 219 patients undergoing colorectal resection for cancer of the colon only were retrieved. One hundred seventy-four patients had an elective procedure and forty-five had an emergency colectomy. Emergency presentation was more likely to occur in mucinous (p < 0.05) and signet ring cell (p < 0.01) tumors. No definitive differences in 5-year overall (44.7% vs. 60.6%, p = 0.078) and disease-free (51.2% vs. 64.4%, p = 0.09) survival were found between the two groups as a whole, but the T3 emergency patients showed worse prognosis than the elective (p < 0.03). Lymph node invasion, laparoscopy, histology, and blood transfusions were independent variables found to influence survival. Distribution assessed for pTNM stage showed T3 cancers were more common in emergency (p < 0.01). Mucinous and signet ring cell tumors are related to emergency presentation, pT3 stage, poorest outcomes, and survival. Disease-free survival in patients who had emergency surgery for T3 colon cancer seems related to the histotype.

Abstract

Alveolar ridge augmentation procedures allow restoring jaw defects due to teeth extractions, periodontal diseases, trauma, or outcomes from a previous surgery. This case report describes a patient suffering from Fibrous Dysplasia of the right upper maxilla surgically reconstructed by fibula free flap. In 2003, four dental implants were placed in the 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, and 1.6 areas. Twelve years later, the onset of peri-implantitis led to the failure of osseointegration with consequent thinning of the fibula flap. To avoid the risk of fracture and to restore the bone volumes necessary for a new implant-prosthetic rehabilitation, we used heterologous biomaterials in combination with a non-reabsorbable membrane, according to the Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) technique. GBR was performed using the Equimatrix® natural bone mineral matrix, Cytoplast™ Ti-150, a non-reabsorbable titanium-reinforced membrane, and four fastening screws to pin the membrane. After six months, the membrane was removed and two Zimmer® implants 3.7×13 mm were placed in the 1.1 and 1.2 areas. A fixed implant-supported prosthesis with a custom-milled titanium bar screwed to the implants was made. Computed tomography (CT) six months after GBR showed a good bone regeneration of 1.5 cm mesiodistal (MD), 1.8 cm buccopalatal (BP), and 2.8 cm in height. The main difficulty of this clinical case concerns the low predictability of success of GBR on a maxillary reconstructed area with a free fibula flap: there is no previous evidence in the literature. Clinical and radiographic exams nowadays show that there is no macroscopic bone reabsorption; however, further research is needed to obtain more information.

Abstract

Background The success of coronary recanalization therapy for the treatment of myocardial infarction can be hampered by microvascular plugging which prevents effective reperfusion of the ischemic tissue. Due to its constitutive expression in platelets, leukocytes, and endothelial cells and its peculiar tyrosine phosphatase cell detaching signaling properties, the trans-homophilic CD31 receptor may be important to modulate platelet and leukocyte aggregation in the microvasculature. Objective To investigate the impact of CD31 genetic deficiency on the infarct size, peri-infarction microvascular plugging and macrophage phenotype in a mouse model of heart ischemia/reperfusion. Methods Cardiac ischemia was induced in WT and CD31 KO mice (n=30, 15 females and 15 males in each group) by surgical ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) for 45 minutes followed by reperfusion for 72 hours. The area at risk (AAR) and necrotic zone (NZ) were assessed using ImageJ software on three consecutive 1 mm thick slices of the left ventricle (LV) by a combination of a blue dye and 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining. Parallel sets of experiments served to evaluate by both fluorescence microscopy and cytometry the presence of microvascular plugs and leukocyte phenotype in the infarction area as compared to the peri-necrotic myocardium. Results The AAR was similar in WT and CD31 KO mice (41,7±3,5 vs 37±2,9% of LV, NS) whereas the size of myocardial infarction was significantly greater in CD31 KO as compared to WT mice (23,4±2 vs 17,8±1,7% of LV, p Conclusions Our data suggest that CD31 is important for reducing the size of necrosis following coronary recanalization procedures by preventing the no-reflow phenomenon due to microvascular plugging and by promoting a reparative phenotype of peri-infarction macrophages. Abstract

We present a new measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vcb| from B0→D*-l+νl decays, reconstructed with the full Belle data set of 711 fb−1 integrated luminosity. Two form factor parametrizations, originally conceived by the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert (CLN) and the Boyd, Grinstein and Lebed (BGL) groups, are used to extract the product F(1)ηEW|Vcb| and the decay form factors, where F(1) is the normalization factor and ηEW is a small electroweak correction. In the CLN parametrization we find F(1)ηEW|Vcb|=(35.06±0.15±0.56)×10-3, ρ2=1.106±0.031±0.007, R1(1)=1.229±0.028±0.009, R2(1)=0.852±0.021±0.006. For the BGL parametrization we obtain F(1)ηEW|Vcb|=(34.93±0.23±0.59)×10-3, which is consistent with the world average when correcting for F(1)ηEW. The branching fraction of B0→D*-l+νl is measured to be B(B0→D*-l+νl)=(4.90±0.02±0.16)%. We also present a new test of lepton flavor universality violation in semileptonic B decays, B(B0→D*-e+ν)B(B0→D*-μ+ν)=1.01±0.01±0.03. The errors quoted correspond to the statistical and systematic uncertainties, respectively. This is the most precise measurement of F(1)ηEW|Vcb| and form factors to date and the first experimental study of the BGL form factor parametrization in an experimental measurement.

Abstract

Using data samples of e+e- collisions collected at the ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) resonances with the Belle detector, we search for the three-body decay of the Ω(2012) baryon to KπΞ. This decay is predicted to dominate for models describing the Ω(2012) as a KΞ(1530) molecule. No significant Ω(2012) signals are observed in the studied channels, and 90% credibility level upper limits on the ratios of the branching fractions relative to KΞ decay modes are obtained.

Abstract

We present the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions of $\Xi_c^+$ decays into $\Xi^- \pi^+ \pi^+$ and $p K^- \pi^+$ final states. Our analysis is based on a data set of $(772\pm 11)\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure the absolute branching fraction of $\bar{B}^{0} \to \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} \Xi_{c}^{+}$ with the $\Xi_c^+$ recoiling against $\bar{\Lambda}_c^-$ in $\bar{B}^0$ decays resulting in ${\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} \Xi_{c}^{+}) = [1.16 \pm 0.42(\rm stat.) \pm 0.15(\rm syst.)] \times 10^{-3}$. We then measure the product branching fractions ${\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to \bar{\Lambda}_c^- \Xi_c^+){\cal B}(\Xi_c^+ \to \Xi^- \pi^+ \pi^+)$ and ${\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to \bar{\Lambda}_c^- \Xi_c^+){\cal B}(\Xi_c^+ \to p K^- \pi^+)$. Dividing these product branching fractions by $\bar{B}^{0} \to \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} \Xi_{c}^{+}$ yields: ${\cal B}(\Xi_c^+ \to \Xi^- \pi^+ \pi^+) = [2.86 \pm 1.21(\rm stat.) \pm 0.38(\rm syst.)]\%$ and ${\cal B}(\Xi_c^+ \to p K^- \pi^+)=[0.45 \pm 0.21(\rm stat.) \pm 0.07(\rm syst.)]\%$. Our result for ${\cal B}(\Xi_c^+ \to \Xi^- \pi^+ \pi^+)$ can be combined with $\Xi_c^+$ branching fractions measured relative to $\Xi_c^+ \to \Xi^- \pi^+ \pi^+$ to set the absolute scale for many $\Xi_c^+$ branching fractions.

Abstract

We report the results of a search for the decay $B^0 \to X(3872)(\to J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-) \gamma$. The analysis is performed on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $711\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ and containing $772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs, collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider running at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance energy. We find no evidence for a signal and place an upper limit of $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to X(3872)\gamma)\times \mathcal{B}(X(3872) \to J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-) < 5.1 \times 10^{-7}$ at 90% confidence level.

Abstract

A search for the decays B+→hcK+ and B0→hcKS0 is performed. Evidence for the decay B+→hcK+ is found; its significance is 4.8σ. No evidence is found for B0→hcKS0. The branching fraction for B+→hcK+ is measured to be (3.7-0.9+1.0 -0.8+0.8)×10-5; the upper limit for the B0→hcKS0 branching fraction is 1.4×10-5 at 90% C.L. In addition, a study of the pp¯π+π- invariant mass distribution in the channel B+→(pp¯π+π-)K+ results in the first observation of the decay ηc(2S)→pp¯π+π- with 12.1σ significance. The analysis is based on the 711 fb-1 data sample collected by the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e+e- collider KEKB at the ϒ(4S) resonance.

Abstract

We report a measurement of the branching fraction and final-state asymmetry for the $\bar{B}^{0}\to K^{0}_{S}K^{\mp}\pi^{\pm}$ decays. The analysis is based on a data sample of 711 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We obtain a branching fraction of $(3.60\pm0.33\pm0.15)\times10^{-6}$ and a final-state asymmetry of $(-8.5\pm8.9\pm0.2)\%$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Hints of peaking structures are seen in the differential branching fractions measured as functions of Dalitz variables.

Abstract

We report measurements of the production cross sections of charged pions, kaons, and protons as a function of fractional energy, the event-shape variable called thrust, and the transverse momentum with respect to the thrust axis. These measurements access the transverse momenta created in the fragmentation process, which are of critical importance to the understanding of any transverse-momentum-dependent distribution and fragmentation functions. The low transverse-momentum part of the cross sections can be well described by Gaussians in transverse momentum as is generally assumed but the fractional-energy dependence is nontrivial and different hadron types have varying Gaussian widths. The width of these Gaussians decreases with thrust and shows an initially rising, then decreasing fractional-energy dependence. The widths for pions and kaons are comparable within uncertainties, while those for protons are significantly narrower. These single-hadron cross sections and Gaussian widths are obtained from a 558 fb-1 data sample collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.

Abstract

We report a search for the charmless baryonic decay $B^0\to p\bar{p}\pi^0$ with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711~$\rm fb^{-1}$ containing $(772\pm 10)\times 10^6$ $B^0\bar{B}^0$ pairs. The data was collected by the Belle experiment running on the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure a branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(B^0\to p\bar{p}\pi^0)= (5.0\pm1.8\pm0.6 )\times 10^{-7}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The signal has a significance of 3.1 standard deviations and constitutes the first evidence for this decay mode. We also search for the intermediate two-body decays $B^{0}\to\Delta^+\bar{p}$ and $B^0\to\bar{\Delta}^-p$, and set an upper limit on the branching fraction: $\mathcal{B}(B^0\to \Delta^+\bar{p})+\mathcal{B}(B^0\to\bar{\Delta}^-p)

Abstract

We report the results of a search for the B→Y(4260)K, Y(4260)→J/ψπ+π- decays. This study is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 fb-1, collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We investigate the J/ψπ+π- invariant mass distribution in the range 4.0 to 4.6 GeV/c2 using both B+→J/ψπ+π-K+ and B0→J/ψπ+π-KS0 decays. We find excesses of events above the background levels, with significances of 2.1 and 0.9 standard deviations for charged and neutral B→Y(4260)K decays, respectively, taking into account the systematic uncertainties. These correspond to upper limits on the product of branching fractions, B(B+→Y(4260)K+)×B(Y(4260)→J/ψπ+π-)
