Cyber-slacking interrupts classroom teaching and learning activities and is associated with poor academic performance. Based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB), this study aimed to investigate whether both cognitive (i.e., attitudes, perceived norms, and perceived behavioral control) and affective (i.e., fear of missing out [FoMO]) factors contribute to classroom cyber-slacking intention and behavior among Chinese university students. We recruited a convenience sample of 431 undergraduate students (M = 19.34, SD = 1.08; 66.4% female; 33.6% male) from mainland China who completed an online survey (i.e., items measured cognitive factors of cyber-slacking, cyber-slacking behavior, FoMO, and demographic information). The findings of correlational, hierarchical multiple regression, and path analysis with bootstrapping approach showed that both cognitive and affective factors were positive correlates of cyber-slacking intention and behavior and explained the variance in cyber-slacking intention. Moreover, attitudes, perceived norms, perceived behavioral control, and FoMO had statistically significant indirect effects (via intention) on cyber-slacking behaviors, whereas perceived behavioral control alone has a direct impact on cyber-slacking behaviors. The findings not only lend more credence to TPB, suggesting that cognitive factors are reliable correlates of both classroom cyber-slacking intention and behavior, but also showed affective factors, such as FoMO, can be used to reduce students' cyber-slacking intention and, subsequently, their behavior. Based on these findings, interventions for reducing classroom cyber-slacking are discussed.

Objective: The original 24-item School Refusal Assessment Scale-Revised (SRAS-R) assesses four functions/conditions regarding school refusal behavior (SRB), bridging assessments, and treatments of SRB. No validated Chinese versions are available. Methods: To validate the Chinese version of the SRAS-R, an anonymous cross-sectional survey was conducted from February to March 2022 among 1108 secondary school students in Taizhou, China. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) did not support the original 4-factor model. Three items were thus removed in the exploratory factor analysis performed in the first half-spilt subsample, yielding a 5-factor model which was confirmed by CFA in the second subsample. The resulting 21-item scale/subscales of the Chinese SRAS-R generally demonstrated measurement invariance across sex and student types and satisfactory internal consistency, absence of ceiling effect and floor effect, and concurrent validity with the two external variables of preference of not going to school and depressive symptoms. Significant sex and student type differences in subscale scores were found. Conclusions: The 21-item and 5-factor Chinese version of the SRAS-R showed satisfactory psychometric properties and can be applied to research on SRB among Chinese adolescents. Future studies should validate it in other countries.

Abstract Cell death plasticity is crucial for modulating tissue homeostasis and immune responses, but our understanding of the molecular components that regulate cell death pathways to determine cell fate remains limited. Here, a CRISPR screen of acute myeloid leukemia cells identifies protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 23 (PTPN23) as essential for survival. Loss of PTPN23 activates nuclear factor-kappa B, apoptotic, necroptotic, and pyroptotic pathways by causing the accumulation of death receptors and toll-like receptors (TLRs) in endosomes. These effects are recapitulated by depletion of PTPN23 co-dependent genes in the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) pathway. Through proximity-dependent biotin labeling, we show that NAK-associated protein 1 interacts with PTPN23 to facilitate endosomal sorting of tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (TNFR1), sensitizing cells to TNF-α-induced cytotoxicity. Our findings reveal PTPN23-dependent ESCRT machinery as a cell death checkpoint that regulates the spatiotemporal distribution of death receptors and TLRs to restrain multiple cell death pathways.

Spatiotemporal regression is a crucial method in geography for discerning spatiotemporal nonstationarity in geographical relationships and has found widespread application across diverse research domains. This study implements two innovative spatiotemporal intelligent regression models, i.e., Geographically Neural Network Weighted Regression (GNNWR) and Geographically and Temporally Neural Network Weighted Regression (GTNNWR), which use neural networks to estimate spatiotemporal nonstationarity. Due to the higher accuracy and generalization ability, these models have been widely used in various fields of scientific research. To facilitate the application of GNNWR and GTNNWR in addressing spatiotemporal nonstationary processes, the Python-based package GNNWR has been developed. This article details the implementation of these models and introduces the GNNWR package, enabling users to efficiently apply these cutting-edge techniques. Validation of the package is conducted through two case studies. The first case involves the verification of GNNWR using air quality data from China, while the second employs offshore dissolved silicate concentration data from Zhejiang Province to validate GTNNWR. The results of the case studies underscore the effectiveness of the GNNWR package, yielding outcomes of notable accuracy. This contribution anticipates a significant role for the developed package in supporting future research that will leverage big data and spatiotemporal regression techniques.

As an important energy in modern society, the stable operation of electricity is the guarantee of social and economic operation, and the loss caused by the damage of power facilities is immeasurable, so the regular monitoring of power facilities is indispensable. UAVs, with flexible flight mode, have played an important role in power inspection. With the development of UAV docks, UAV inspection has entered a new stage. However, due to the fixed location of the docks and limited coverage, how to achieve the optimal deployment of the docks with the lowest cost and full coverage of power facilities through reasonable deployment is one of the important issues that need to be solved at this stage of dock construction. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an energy-driven adaptive optimization method for dock location by combining geospatial analysis with UAV performance index. The experiment results show that our method can achieve an efficient, reasonable and feasible optimal location for UAV dock deployment.

The largest group of international students pursuing their overseas higher education in the UK come from China; and yet, little qualitative research has explored the experiences of Chinese students who have recently made this transition, with even less focusing on the experiences of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The present article set out to explore the unique perspective of a small sample of first-year undergraduate and first-year postgraduate students (N = 18), on their experience of transitioning to a higher education institution in the UK. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, and thematic analysis was used to explore their experiences in greater depth. Two superordinate themes are reported here: "Education Dialogues and Scholarship" and "Intercultural Relations and Notions of Difference." The findings suggest that despite advances in institutional practices to support international students' transition to higher education in the UK, more work needs to be done to redress the sociocultural (and other) challenges that continue to exist for international Chinese students.

Gradient microstructures (GMs) help to improve simultaneously the strength and ductility of metallic materials; therefore, GMs have attracted more and more interest in recent years. The current researches on GMed metals mainly focus on the quasi-static mechanical properties, whereas the dynamic mechanical behavior of GMed metals remains mysterious. Here, GMed pure aluminum was prepared by cryogenic pre-torsion. Split Hopkinson tensile bar (SHTB) tests show that GMs can improve the dynamic tensile strength without the sacrifice of final elongation. Quantitative microstructural characterization indicates that the gradients of dislocation density, grain size and precipitate volume fraction contribute to the excellent dynamic mechanical properties in GMed aluminum. A modified Johnson-Cook model based on multiple GMs was proposed to describe the dynamic mechanical behavior of GMed metallic materials. Systematical finite element simulations were further conducted to reveal the underlying mechanisms during SHTB tests of GMed aluminum bar. The gradient of yield flow stress contributes the improvement of dynamic tensile strength. The extra hardening from multiple GMs and the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization (DRX) promote the increase of final elongation.

Radical transformations of knowledge development are required to address the sustainability issues in the Anthropocene. This study developed a framework to understand the internal structures of knowledge development with two dimensions: degree of multidisciplinarity and degree of issue connectivity. Examining the knowledge development in 72 river basins globally from 1962 to 2017 using the Web of Science (WoS) dataset, it was found that the river basin knowledge systems were characterized by increasingly interconnected issues addressed by limited disciplines. Evaluating these structural characteristics against six impact indicators of society and policy, over 90 % of rivers were found to have knowledge structures that were strongly linked to society impacts, whereas only 57 % were linked to that of policy. Optimization analysis further found that about 35 % of the rivers studied mostly in Asia, Africa, and South America were prone to fragmented knowledge structures that had limited capacities to effectively address the issues with negative environmental impacts and resource depletion. Improving multidisciplinary research is the key to transforming the current knowledge structure to support more sustainable river basin development.

Abstract The multi-staged XENON program at INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso aims to detect dark matter with two-phase liquid xenon time projection chambers of increasing size and sensitivity. The XENONnT experiment is the latest detector in the program, planned to be an upgrade of its predecessor XENON1T. It features an active target of 5.9 tonnes of cryogenic liquid xenon (8.5 tonnes total mass in cryostat). The experiment is expected to extend the sensitivity to WIMP dark matter by more than an order of magnitude compared to XENON1T, thanks to the larger active mass and the significantly reduced background, improved by novel systems such as a radon removal plant and a neutron veto. This article describes the XENONnT experiment and its sub-systems in detail and reports on the detector performance during the first science run.

Abstract Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) was associated with teclistamab treatment in the phase I/II MajesTEC‐1 study. Cytokines, especially interleukin (IL)‐6, are known suppressors of cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes' activity. A physiologically based pharmacokinetic model evaluated the impact of IL‐6 serum levels on exposure of substrates of various CYP enzymes (1A2, 2C9, 2C19, 3A4, 3A5). Two IL‐6 kinetics profiles were assessed, the mean IL‐6 profile with a maximum concentration (Cmax) of IL‐6 (21 pg/mL) and the IL‐6 profile of the patient presenting the highest IL‐6 Cmax (288 pg/mL) among patients receiving the recommended phase II dose of teclistamab in MajesTEC‐1. For the mean IL‐6 kinetics profile, teclistamab was predicted to result in a limited change in exposure of CYP substrates (area under the curve [AUC] mean ratio 0.87–1.20). For the maximum IL‐6 kinetics profile, the impact on omeprazole, simvastatin, midazolam, and cyclosporine exposure was weak to moderate (mean AUC ratios 1.90–2.23), and minimal for caffeine and s‐warfarin (mean AUC ratios 0.82–1.25). Maximum change in exposure for these substrates occurred 3–4 days after step‐up dosing in cycle 1. These results suggest that after cycle 1, drug interaction from IL‐6 effect has no meaningful impact on CYP activities, with minimal or moderate impact on CYP substrates. The highest risk of drug interaction is expected to occur during step‐up dosing up to 7 days after the first treatment dose (1.5 mg/kg subcutaneously) and during and after CRS.

BackgroundDespite advancements in cancer treatment, understanding the long-term mental health implications for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) survivors remains an underexplored area. This study aims to examine the prevalence of mental disorders and their correlations with age at diagnosis and time since diagnosis among NPC survivors.MethodsA total of 1872 NPC patients were surveyed from September 2020 to June 2021 in this cross-sectional survey. Logistic regression models were used to analyze the associations of age at diagnosis and time since NPC diagnosis with the risk of mental disorders. Additionally, the potential nonlinear trend between these factors was examined using restricted cubic splines. Analyses were conducted both overall and stratified by gender. Gender interaction was also examined.ResultsThe prevalences of depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders were 32.4, 33.2, and 61.5%, respectively. Age at NPC diagnosis was significantly associated with an elevated risk of depression (adjusted OR (aOR): 1.75 for 30–39 years old; 2.33 for 50–59 years old; 2.59 for ≥60 years old) and sleep disorders (aOR: 2.41 for 40–49 years old; 1.95 for 50–59 years old; 2.26, for ≥60 years old), compared to patients diagnosed with NPC at age

Background: Despite the practical importance of addressing the drug user’s sleep problems to enhance the efficacy of treatment and rehabilitation, little is known about whether and how history of childhood maltreatment relates to this issue. This study takes an evolutionary perspective to investigate the associations between history of childhood maltreatment and sleep problems in adults with drug abuse via their emotion regulation difficulties, future-oriented coping, and anxiety.Methods: Participants were 604 male adults with drug abuse between the ages of 18–58 years (M = 36.20, SD = 8.17) in a drug rehabilitation centre in China. In addition to bivariate correlation analysis, path analysis was conducted to examine goodness-of-fit of the conceptual model, controlling for the effect of demographic characteristics.Results: Thirty-two percent of participants (n = 194) reported poor sleep quality (PSQI > 5), whereas sleep disturbance (81.3%), daytime dysfunction (77.3%), and sleep latency (66.5%) were the three most common problems among them. Correlation analysis supported the hypothesised positive correlations between poor sleep quality and childhood maltreatment, emotion regulation difficulties, and anxiety, and a negative correlation with future-oriented coping. Results of path analysis showed a significant indirect effect of childhood maltreatment on sleep problems via both emotion regulation difficulties and anxiety, whereas such effects via both future-oriented coping and anxiety were statistically nonsignificant.Conclusions: The findings suggest life history theory is applicable to understanding drug users’ sleep problems, and interventions regarding both emotion regulation difficulties and anxiety can lessen the risk posed by childhood maltreatment on sleep problems.

Abstract BackgroundSchool climate and school identification are important features of the school environment and potential determinants of adolescent internet gaming disorder (IGD). ObjectiveThis novel study investigated their joint effects on IGD and related mediation mechanisms via the interpersonal factor of teacher-student relationship and the individual factors of academic stress and anxiety. MethodsA large-scale cross-sectional study was conducted among adolescent internet gamers of junior, senior, and vocational middle schools in Taizhou City, China, from February to March 2022 (N=5778). Participants self-administered an anonymous, structured questionnaire in classrooms. Adjusted logistic regression and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used for data analysis. ResultsAmong all participants, the prevalence of IGD was 8% (461/5778). The 4 school climate subscales (student-student relationship subscale: adjusted odds ratio [ORa] 0.88, 95% CI 0.85-0.91; student-staff relations subscale: ORa 0.87, 95% CI 0.84-0.90; academic emphasis subscale: ORa 0.88, 95% CI 0.85-0.91; shared values approach: ORa 0.88, 95% CI 0.85-0.90), the school identification subscale (ORa 0.85, 95% CI 0.83-0.88), and teacher-student relationship (ORa 0.80, 95% CI 0.76-0.84) were significant protective factors against IGD, while academic stress (ORa 1.18, 95% CI 1.14-1.23) and anxiety (ORa 1.16, 95% CI 1.14-1.18) were risk factors of IGD. The SEM showed that the negative associations between school climate and IGD and between school identification and IGD were mediated via (1) three 2-step paths, each involving a single mediator—teacher-student relationship, academic stress, and anxiety, respectively—and (2) two 3-step paths involving 2 mediators—teacher-student relationship and academic stress first, respectively, and then anxiety. The direct effect of school climate on IGD was statistically nonsignificant (ie, full mediation with effect size ranging from 4.2% to 20.4%), while that of school identification was statistically significant (ie, partial mediation with effect size ranging from 4.5% to 38.2%). ConclusionsThe relatively high prevalence of IGD among Chinese adolescents may be reduced through school-based interventions to improve school climate and school identification. Such improvements may reduce the levels of risk factors of IGD (poor teacher-student relationship, academic stress, and anxiety) and hence the risk of IGD. Future longitudinal and intervention studies are needed to confirm the findings.

IntroductionFew studies have evaluated the effects of milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) on microbiota and immune markers in early infant nutrition.MethodsIn this double-blind randomized study, infants (7–18 days of age) received either bovine milk-based infant formula (Control) or similar formula with an added source (5 g/L) of bovine MFGM (INV-MFGM) for 60 days. A reference group received mother’s own human milk over the same period (HM). Oral and stool samples were collected (Baseline and Day 60) to evaluate microbiota, immune markers, and metabolites.ResultsAt Day 60, stool bacterial diversity and richness were higher in formula groups vs HM, as were Bifidobacterium bifidum and B. catenulatum abundance. Compared to HM, stool pH was higher in Control, while acetate, propionate, isovalerate, and total short- and branched-chain fatty acids were higher in INV-MFGM. Butyrate and lactate increased for INV-MFGM from baseline to Day 60. No group differences in oral microbiota or immune markers (α- and β-defensin, calprotectin, or sIgA) were detected, although sIgA increased over time in all study groups. Added bovine MFGM in infant formula modulated stool microbiota and short- and branched-chain fatty acids compared to human milk; changes were modest relative to control formula.DiscussionOverall, distinct patterns of stool metabolites and microbiota development were observed based on early nutrition.Clinical trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov, identifier NCT04059666.

Currently, there are no resources to support culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) women with breast cancer to make decisions about undergoing breast reconstruction (BR). This study evaluated the usability and acceptability of decision aids (DAs) for Vietnamese- and Arabic-speaking women. This two-phase qualitative recruited Vietnamese- (Phase 1) and Arabic-speaking (Phase 2) adult (age ≥ 18 years) women who were diagnosed with breast cancer and could read Vietnamese/Arabic. Women participated in either think-aloud telephone interviews (Phase 1) or semi-structured telephone interviews (Phase 2) and provided feedback on the DA. Interviews were audio-recorded, translated, and transcribed from Vietnamese/Arabic to English, and inductive thematic analysis was undertaken. Additionally, Arabic-speaking women completed the Preparation for Decision Making (PrepDM) scale in Round 2. Twenty-five women were recruited in two phases (Phase 1: Vietnamese-speaking women, n = 14; Phase 2: Arabic-speaking, n = 11). Three themes were developed in Phase 1: (1) DA content and reception; (2) linguistic attributes and cultural appropriateness; and (3) factors that improve the DAs’ impact. Three themes were developed in Phase 2: (1) varying perceptions of DA content; (2) linguistic and cultural suitability of information; and (3) impact of DA on decision making. Women from both phases identified areas for improvement: minimising the use of medical terminology, considering the cultural taboos associated with the word ‘breast’, and addressing remaining information gaps. Both language DAs were generally perceived as acceptable and useful in providing information about BR options and prompting women’s reflections about the suitability of BR as part of their treatment. The mean PrepDM score for Arabic-speaking women in Round 2 was 4.8/5 (SD = 0.3). Further work is needed to ensure that culturally adapted DAs take into account the myriad of information needs and health literacy levels. The key role of healthcare professionals in shared decision making among CALD populations should also be considered.

Abstract Background The current understanding of the relationship between physical activity involvement and flourishing, as well as the underlying psychological mechanisms, remains limited. Building upon the basic psychological need theory, this study investigates whether and how engaging in physical activities, either as a spectator (e.g., in sports events such as the World Cup) or a participant, explains individual differences in flourishing. Methods A total of 1201 Hong Kong-based Chinese adults (M age = 42.90, SD = 11.40; 54% female) completed an anonymous online survey from the quarter-final to final stages of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in December 2022. Results Findings showed that spectator (World Cup) involvement and participant involvement were positively correlated. Moreover, both types of involvements were correlated with flourishing. In addition to the hypothesized positive association with relatedness satisfaction, spectator (World Cup) involvement was also demonstrated significant associations with autonomy and competence satisfaction. Path analysis indicated that associations between physical activities and flourishing were partially mediated by the satisfaction of all three basic psychological needs. Conclusions This study is the first to apply the basic psychological need theory in the context of physical activity and supports its relevance in understanding individual differences in flourishing. Different stakeholders are encouraged to recognize the benefits of both spectator and participant involvements in physical activities, which may help them develop supportive strategies (e.g., physical activities with parents, sports events for spectators and participants, and funding for media/communities) in mental health promotion.

Accurate long-term daily cloud-gap-filled fractional snow cover products are essential for climate change and snow hydrological studies in the Asian Water Tower (AWT) region, but existing Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) snow cover products are not sufficient. In this study, the multiple-endmember spectral mixture analysis algorithm based on automatic endmember extraction (MESMA-AGE) and the multistep spatiotemporal interpolation algorithm (MSTI) are used to produce the MODIS daily cloud-gap-filled fractional snow cover product over the AWT region (AWT MODIS FSC). The AWT MODIS FSC products have a spatial resolution of 0.005° and span from 2000 to 2022. The 2745 scenes of Landsat-8 images are used for the areal-scale accuracy assessment. The fractional snow cover accuracy metrics, including the coefficient of determination (R2), root mean squared error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE), are 0.80, 0.16 and 0.10, respectively. The binarized identification accuracy metrics, including overall accuracy (OA), producer's accuracy (PA) and user's accuracy (UA), are 95.17 %, 97.34 % and 97.59 %, respectively. Snow depth data observed at 175 meteorological stations are used to evaluate accuracy at the point scale, yielding the following accuracy metrics: an OA of 93.26 %, a PA of 84.41 %, a UA of 82.14 % and a Cohen kappa (CK) value of 0.79. Snow depth observations from meteorological stations are also used to assess the fractional snow cover resulting from different weather conditions, with an OA of 95.36 % (88.96 %), a PA of 87.75 % (82.26 %), a UA of 86.86 % (78.86 %) and a CK of 0.84 (0.72) under the MODIS clear-sky observations (spatiotemporal reconstruction based on the MSTI algorithm). The AWT MODIS FSC product can provide quantitative spatial distribution information on snowpacks for mountain hydrological models, land surface models and numerical weather prediction in the Asian Water Tower region. Abstract Health apps and wearables are touted to improve physical health and mental well-being. However, it is unclear from existing research the extent to which these health technologies are efficacious in improving physical and mental well-being at a population level, particularly for the underserved groups from the perspective of health equity and social determinants. Also, it is unclear if the relationship between health apps and wearables use and physical and mental well-being differs across individualistic, collectivistic, and a mix of individual–collectivistic cultures. A large-scale online survey was conducted in the U.S. (individualist culture), China (collectivist culture), and Singapore (mix of individual–collectivist culture) using quota sampling after obtaining ethical approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB-2021-262) of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. There was a total of 1004 respondents from the U.S., 1072 from China, and 1017 from Singapore. Data were analyzed using multiple regression and negative binomial regression. The study found that income consistently had the strongest relationship with physical and mental well-being measures in all three countries, while the use of health apps and wearables only had a moderate association with psychological well-being only in the US. Health apps and wearables were associated with the number of times people spent exercising and some mental health outcomes in China and Singapore, but they were only positively associated with psychological well-being in the US. The study emphasizes the importance of considering the social determinants, social–cultural context of the population, and the facilitating conditions for the effective use of digital health technologies. The study suggests that the combined use of both health apps and wearables is most strongly associated with better physical and mental health, though this association is less pronounced when individuals use only apps or wearables.

Accurate, detailed, and up-to-date information on cropland extent is crucial for provisioning food security and environmental sustainability. However, because of the complexity of agricultural landscapes and lack of sufficient training samples, it remains challenging to monitor cropland dynamics at high spatial and temporal resolutions across large geographical extents, especially for regions where agricultural land use is changing dramatically. Here we developed a cost-effective annual cropland mapping framework that integrated time-series Landsat satellite imagery, automated training sample generation, as well as machine learning and change detection techniques. We implemented the proposed scheme to a cloud computing platform of Google Earth Engine and generated a novel dataset of China's annual cropland at a 30 m spatial resolution (namely CACD). Results demonstrated that our approach was capable of tracking dynamic cropland changes in different agricultural zones. The pixel-wise F1 scores for annual maps and change maps of CACD were 0.79 ± 0.02 and 0.81, respectively. Further cross-product comparisons, including accuracy assessment, correlations with statistics, and spatial details, highlighted the precision and robustness of CACD compared with other datasets. According to our estimation, from 1986 to 2021, China's total cropland area expanded by 30 300 km2 (1.79 %), which underwent an increase before 2002 but a general decline between 2002 and 2015, and a slight recovery afterward. Cropland expansion was concentrated in the northwest while the eastern, central, and southern regions experienced substantial cropland loss. In addition, we observed 419 342 km2 (17.57 %) of croplands that were abandoned at least once during the study period. The consistent, high-resolution data of CACD can support progress toward sustainable agricultural use and food production in various research applications. Marine aerosol affects the global energy budget and regional weather. The production of marine aerosol is primarily driven by wind at the sea–air interface. Previous studies have explored the effects of wind on marine aerosol, mostly by examining the relationships between aerosol optical depth (AOD) and surface wind speed. In this paper, utilizing the synergy of aerosol and wind observations from Aeolus, the relationships between the marine aerosol optical properties at 355 nm and the instantaneous co-located wind speeds of remote oceans are investigated at two vertical layers (within and above the marine atmospheric boundary layer (MABL)). The results show that the enhancements of the extinction and backscatter coefficients caused by wind are larger within the MABL than above it. The correlation models between extinction and backscatter with wind speed were established using power-law functions. The slope variation points occur during extinction and backscatter coefficients increasing with wind speed, indicating that the wind-driven enhancement of marine aerosol involves two phases: a rapid-growth phase with high wind dependence, followed by a slower-growth phase after the slope variation points. We also compared the AOD–wind relationship acquired from Aeolus with CALIPSO-derived results from previous research. The variation in the lidar ratio with wind speed is examined, suggesting a possible “increasing–decreasing–increasing” trend of marine aerosol particle size as wind speed increases. This study enhances the comprehension of the correlation between marine aerosol optical properties and wind speed by providing vertical information and demonstrating that their relationships are more complex than a linear or exponential relation.

The new-generation atmospheric environment monitoring satellite DQ-1, launched successfully in April 2022, carries the Aerosol and Carbon Detection Lidar (ACDL), which is capable of globally profiling aerosol and cloud optical properties with high accuracy. The ACDL/DQ-1 is a high-spectral-resolution lidar (HSRL) that separates molecular backscatter signals using an iodine filter and has 532 nm polarization detection and dual-wavelength detection at 532 and 1064 nm, which can be utilized to derive aerosol optical properties. The methods have been specifically developed for data processing and optical property retrieval according to the specific characteristics of the ACDL system and are introduced in detail in this paper. Considering the different signal characteristics and different background noise behaviors of each channel during daytime and nighttime, the procedures of data pre-processing, denoising process and quality control are applied to the original measurement signals. The aerosol and cloud optical property products of the ACDL/DQ-1, including the total depolarization ratio, backscatter coefficient, extinction coefficient, lidar ratio and color ratio, can be calculated by the retrieval algorithms presented in this paper. Two measurement cases with use of the ACDL/DQ-1 on 27 June 2022 and the global averaged aerosol optical depth (AOD) from 1 June to 4 August 2022 are provided and analyzed, demonstrating the measurement capability of the ACDL/DQ-1.

BackgroundAdolescent internet gaming disorder (IGD) was associated with severe harm, including suicidal ideation. While suicidal ideation was predictive of completed suicides, further research is required to clarify the association between IGD and suicidal ideation among adolescents, as well as the mechanisms involved. ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the understudied association between IGD and suicidal ideation, as well as novel mechanisms associated with it, among Chinese adolescent internet gamers through psychosocial coping resources and psychosocial problems. MethodsAn anonymous, self-administered, cross-sectional survey was conducted among secondary school students who had played internet games in the past year in Guangzhou and Chengdu, China (from October 2019 to January 2020). In total, 1693 adolescent internet gamers were included in this study; the mean age was 13.48 (SD 0.80) years, and 60% (n=1016) were males. IGD was assessed by the 9-item Internet Gaming Disorder Checklist of the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders [Fifth Edition]), while a single item assessed suicidal ideation: “Have you ever considered committing suicide in the past 12 months?” Univariate and multivariate logistic regression associations were conducted to test the significance and directions of the potential factors for suicidal ideation. The mediation mechanism was examined by structural equation modeling. ResultsAmong all participants, the prevalence of IGD and suicidal ideation was 16.95% (287/1693) and 43.06% (729/1693), respectively. IGD cases were 2.42 times more likely than non-IGD cases to report suicidal ideation (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 2.42, 95% CI 1.73-3.37). Other significant factors of suicidal ideation included psychosocial coping resources (resilience and social support, both adjusted OR 0.97, 95% CI 0.96-0.98) and psychosocial problems (social anxiety: adjusted OR 1.07, 95% CI 1.05-1.09; loneliness, adjusted OR 1.13, 95% CI 1.10-1.16). The association between IGD and suicidal ideation was partially mediated by 3 indirect paths, including (1) the 2-step path that IGD reduced psychosocial coping resources, which in turn increased suicidal ideation; (2) the 2-step path that IGD increased psychosocial problems, which in turn increased suicidal ideation; and (3) the 3-step path that IGD reduced psychosocial coping resources which then increased psychosocial problems, which in turn increased suicidal ideation, with effect sizes of 10.7% (indirect effect/total effect: 0.016/0.15), 30.0% (0.05/0.15), and 13.3% (0.02/0.15), respectively. The direct path remained statistically significant. ConclusionsIGD and suicidal ideation were alarmingly prevalent. Evidently and importantly, IGD was a significant risk factor for suicidal ideation. The association was partially explained by psychosocial coping resources of resilience and social support and psychosocial problems of social anxiety and loneliness. Longitudinal studies are needed to confirm the findings. Pilot randomized controlled trials are recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions in reducing suicidal ideation by reducing IGD, improving psychosocial coping resources, and reducing psychosocial problems investigated in this study.

Problematic smartphone use (PSU) and its negative consequences among adolescents are so commonly observed that they have become a matter of public concern. Utilizing life history (LH) theory, this study aims to examine how childhood risks (i.e., childhood harshness and unpredictability) would be associated with adolescent PSU via cognitive and emotional processes of LH strategy and psychological distress. A sample of 459 Chinese high school students aged from 14 to 18 (M = 16.90) participated in this study and voluntarily completed an anonymous survey. The results showed that childhood unpredictability and psychological distress were positively correlated with PSU, whereas childhood harshness and the two processes of LH strategy were negatively correlated with PSU. Path analysis further supported a partial mediation model, in which childhood unpredictability increased PSU, via serial mediators of the emotional process of LH strategy and psychological distress. The findings support the efficacy of LH theory in elucidating the development of behavioral addiction. However, the direct and negative association of childhood harshness with PSU was unexpected. It implicates the complexity of childhood environment on adolescent behavioral addictions and warrants further investigation.

Abstract Purpose The discoid meniscus (DM) is distinguished by its thickened, disc‐shaped formation, which extends over the tibial plateau. The likelihood of developing osteoarthritis escalates if a DM tear remains undiagnosed and untreated. While DM tears can be diagnosed through arthroscopy, the high cost, invasive nature and limited availability of this procedure highlight the need for a better diagnostic modality. This study aims to determine the accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in diagnosing DM tears. Methods A systematic review was conducted to gather articles with at least 10 cases on the comparison of MRI and arthroscopy as the gold standard for DM tear diagnosis. Stata and MetaDisc were used to conduct the statistical analysis. The quality of the included studies was evaluated using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies‐2 tool. Results Five diagnostic performance studies, derived from four original research papers involving 305 patients, were evaluated. Based on the pooled data, the sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio, positive limit of detection and negative limit of detection were found to be 0.87 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.82–0.91) and 0.84 (95% CI, 0.75–0.90), 32.88 (95% CI, 5.81–186.02), 5.22 (95% CI, 1.71–15.92) and 0.18 (95% CI, 0.09–0.38), respectively. A hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic curve with an area under the curve of 0.92 was generated. Conclusion This meta‐analysis demonstrates that MRI has excellent sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing DM tears. Despite its lower accuracy compared to arthroscopy, MRI can be used in symptomatic patients as a viable alternative to arthroscopy due to its inherent advantages. Level of Evidence Level IV.

Melting of sea ice in the Arctic has accelerated due to global warming. The Fram Strait (FS) serves as a crucial pathway for sea ice export from the Arctic to the North Atlantic Ocean. Monitoring sea ice drift (SID) in the FS provides insight into how Arctic sea ice responds to the climate change. The SID has been retrieved from Sentinel-1 synthetic aperture radar (SAR), Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR), Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for EOS (AMSR-E), and further exploration is needed for the retrieval of SID using optical imagery. In this paper, we retrieve SID in the FS using the Chinese HaiYang1-D (HY-1D) satellite equipped with the Coastal Zone Imager (CZI). A multi-template matching technique is employed to calculate the cross-correlation, and subpixel estimation is used to locate displacement vectors from the cross-correlation matrix. The dataset covering March to May 2021 was divided into hourly and daily intervals for analysis, and validation was performed using Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) SAR-based product and International Arctic Buoy Programme (IABP) buoy. A comparison with the CMEMS SID product revealed a high correlation with the daily interval dataset; however, due to the spatial and temporal variability in the sea ice motion, differences are observed with the hourly interval dataset. Additionally, validation with the IABP buoys yielded a velocity bias of −0.005 m s−1 and RMSE of 0.031 m s−1 for the daily interval dataset, along with a flow direction bias of 0.002 rad and RMSE of 0.009 rad, respectively. For the hourly interval dataset, the velocity bias was negligible (0 m s−1), with a RMSE of 0.036 m s−1, while the flow direction bias was 0.003 rad, with a RMSE of 0.010 rad. In addition, during the validation with buoys, we found that the accuracy of retrieving the SID flow direction is distinctly interrelated with the sea ice displacement.

On 16 April 2022, China successfully launched the world's first spaceborne high-spectral-resolution lidar (HSRL), which is called the Aerosol and Carbon Detection Lidar (ACDL), on board the Atmospheric Environment Monitoring Satellite known as Daqi-1 (DQ-1). The ACDL is expected to precisely detect the three-dimensional distribution of aerosol and cloud globally with high spatial–temporal resolutions. To assess the performance of the newly launched satellite lidar, the ACDL-retrieved observations were compared with ground-based lidar measurements of atmospheric aerosol and cloud over northwest China from May to July 2022 using the Belt and Road lidar network (BR-lidarnet) initiated by Lanzhou University in China and the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) lidar observations. A total of six cases in the daytime and nighttime, including clear days, dust events, and cloudy conditions, were selected for further analysis. Moreover, profiles of the total attenuated backscatter coefficient (TABC) and the volume depolarization ratio (VDR) at 532 nm measured by the ACDL, the CALIPSO lidar, and ground-based lidar are compared in detail. Comparison is made between the 532 nm extinction coefficient and lidar ratio obtained from ACDL HSRL retrieval and the Raman retrieval results obtained from BR-lidarnet. The achieved results revealed that the ACDL observations were in good agreement with the ground-based lidar measurements during dust events with a relative deviation of about −10.5 ± 25.4 % for the TABC and −6.0 ± 38.5 % for the VDR. Additionally, the heights of the cloud top and bottom from these two measurements were well matched and comparable. Compared with the observation of CALIPSO, the ACDL also shows high consistency. This study proves that the ACDL provides reliable observations of aerosol and cloud in the presence of various climatic conditions, which helps to further evaluate the impacts of aerosol on climate and the environment, as well as on the ecosystem in the future.

Fluid infiltration into (meta-)carbonate rocks is an important petrologic process that induces metamorphic decarbonation and potential mineralization of metals or nonmetals. The determination of the infiltration time and the compositional features of reactive fluids is essential to understand the mechanism and process of fluid–rock interactions. Zirconolite (ideal formula: CaZrTi2O7) is an important U-bearing accessory mineral that can develop in metasomatized metacarbonate rocks. In this study, we investigate the occurrence, texture, composition, and chronology of various types of zirconolite from fluid-infiltrated reaction zones in dolomite marbles from the Mogok metamorphic belt, Myanmar. Three types of zirconolite are recognized: (1) the first type (Zrl-I) coexists with metasomatic silicate and oxide minerals (forsterite, spinel, phlogopite) and has a homogeneous composition with high contents of UO2 (21.37 wt %–22.82 wt %) and ThO2 (0.84 wt %–1.99 wt %). (2) The second type (Zrl-II) has textural characteristics similar to those of Zrl-I. However, Zrl-II shows a core–rim zonation with a slightly higher UO2 content in the rims (average of 23.5 ± 0.4 wt % (n=8)) than the cores (average of 22.1 ± 0.3 wt % (n=8)). (3) The third type (Zrl-III) typically occurs as coronas around baddeleyite and coexists with polycrystalline quartz. Zrl-III has obviously lower contents of UO2 (0.88 wt %–5.3 wt %) than those of Zrl-I and Zrl-II. All types of zirconolite have relatively low rare earth element (REE) contents (< 480 µg g−1 for ΣREE). Microtextures and compositions of the three zirconolite types, in combination with in situ zirconolite U–Pb dating using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), reveal episodic fluid infiltration and element mobilization in the dolomite marbles. The first-stage infiltration occurred at ∼ 35 Ma, leading to the formation of Mg-rich silicates and oxides and accessory minerals (Zrl-I, baddeleyite, and geikielite). The reactive fluid was characterized by high contents of Zr, Ti, U, and Th. After that, some Zrl-I grains underwent a local fluid-assisted dissolution–precipitation process, which produced a core–rim zonation (i.e., the Zrl-II type). The final stage of fluid infiltration, recorded by the growth of Zrl-III after baddeleyite, took place at ∼ 19 Ma. The infiltrating fluid of this stage had relatively lower U contents and higher SiO2 activities than the first-stage infiltrating fluid. This study illustrates that zirconolite is a powerful mineral that can record repeated episodes (ranging from 35 to 19 Ma) of fluid influx, metasomatic reactions, and Zr–Ti–U mineralization in (meta-)carbonates. This mineral not only provides key information about the timing of fluid flow but also documents the chemical variation in reactive fluids. Thus, zirconolite is expected to play a more important role in characterizing the fluid–carbonate interaction, orogenic CO2 release, and the transfer and deposition of rare metals.

Abstract When multiple influential covariates need to be balanced during a clinical trial, stratified blocked randomization and covariate-adaptive randomization procedures are frequently used in trials to prevent bias and enhance the validity of data analysis results. The latter approach is increasingly used in practice for a study with multiple covariates and limited sample sizes. Among a group of these approaches, the covariate-adaptive procedures proposed by Pocock and Simon are straightforward to be utilized in practice. We aim to investigate the optimal design parameters for the patient treatment assignment probability of their developed three methods. In addition, we seek to answer the question related to the randomization performance when additional covariates are added to the existing randomization procedure. We conducted extensive simulation studies to address these practically important questions.

Abstract Background Based on social cognitive theory, this study aimed to examine whether and how social abilities (i.e., cognitive empathy and emotional empathy) are associated with gambling disorder (GD) by incorporating attitudes toward general risk (i.e., risk aversion) and responsible gambling as potential mediators of this link. Methods A convenience sample of 580 past-year lottery gamblers (M age = 34.07, SD = 13.36; 50.4% female), recruited near lottery sales shops, completed an anonymous paper-version questionnaire on site. Data were collected using the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for GD, Interpersonal Reactivity Index, Risk Aversion Scale, Positive Play Scale, and demographic items. Path analysis and mediation analysis were applied to examine the effects of cognitive empathy and emotional empathy on GD and the mediating roles of risk aversion and responsible gambling attitude. Results Our results showed that cognitive empathy, but not emotional empathy, was significantly and negatively correlated with GD. Also, the effect of cognitive empathy on GD was fully mediated by risk aversion and responsible gambling attitude, whilst the total indirect effect of emotional empathy on GD was nonsignificant. As hypothesized, the indirect paths from both types of empathy to GD were significantly and serially mediated by risk aversion and responsible gambling attitude. Conclusion Cognitive empathy, distinct from emotional empathy, was a statistically significant correlate of GD. Moreover, the path model results also suggest that responsible gambling attitude was a salient protective factors against GD. Future GD prevention efforts may benefit from paying more attention to the role of responsible gambling attitude.

Abstract Xenon dual-phase time projections chambers (TPCs) have proven to be a successful technology in studying physical phenomena that require low-background conditions. With $$40\,\textrm{t}$$ 40 t of liquid xenon (LXe) in the TPC baseline design, DARWIN will have a high sensitivity for the detection of particle dark matter, neutrinoless double beta decay ( $$0\upnu \upbeta \upbeta $$ 0 ν β β ), and axion-like particles (ALPs). Although cosmic muons are a source of background that cannot be entirely eliminated, they may be greatly diminished by placing the detector deep underground. In this study, we used Monte Carlo simulations to model the cosmogenic background expected for the DARWIN observatory at four underground laboratories: Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (LSM) and SNOLAB. We present here the results of simulations performed to determine the production rate of $${}^{137}$$ 137 Xe, the most crucial isotope in the search for $$0\upnu \upbeta \upbeta $$ 0 ν β β of $${}^{136}$$ 136 Xe. Additionally, we explore the contribution that other muon-induced spallation products, such as other unstable xenon isotopes and tritium, may have on the cosmogenic background.

Weld seam detection is particularly crucial within industrial systems, as it promptly reflects the quality of product fabrication and performance, ensuring the final metallurgical product’s quality while mitigating potential losses stemming from product quality issues. This paper proposed the InfoFPN Cross Refinement Network (InfoCRNet) for the weld seam detection, achieving an accuracy rate of 98,90% and F1 score of 98,85 %.

The nearby radio galaxy M87 is a very high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray emitter established by observations with ground-based gamma-ray detectors. Here we report the long-term monitoring of M87 from 2021 to 2024 with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). M87 has been detected by LHAASO with a statistical significance ∼ 9 σ . The observed energy spectrum extends to 20 TeV, with a possible hardening at ∼20 TeV and then a clear softening at higher energies. Assuming that the intrinsic spectrum is described by a single power law up to 20 TeV, a tight upper bound on the extragalactic background light intensity is obtained. A strong VHE flare lasting 8 days, with a rise time of ${\tau }_{r}^{\mathrm{rise}}=1.05\pm 0.49$ days and decay time of ${\tau }_{d}^{\mathrm{decay}}=2.17\pm 0.58$ days, was found in early 2022. A possible GeV flare is seen also in Fermi Large Area Telescope data during the VHE flare period. The variability time as short as 1 day seen in the LHAASO data suggests a compact emission region with a size of ∼3 × 10 ^15 δ cm ( δ being the Doppler factor of the emitting region), corresponding to a few Schwarzschild radii of the central supermassive black hole in M87. The continuous monitoring of the source reveals a duty cycle of ∼1% for VHE flares with a flux above 10 ^−11 erg cm ^−2 s ^−1 .

The first source catalog of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) reported the detection of a very high energy gamma-ray source, 1LHAASO J1219+2915. This Letter presents a further detailed study of the spectral and temporal behavior of this pointlike source. The best-fit position of the TeV source (R.A. = 185.°05 ± 0.°04, decl. = 29.°25 ± 0.°03) is compatible with NGC 4278 within ∼0.°03. Variation analysis shows an indication of variability on a timescale of a few months in the TeV band, which is consistent with low-frequency observations. Based on these observations, we report the detection of TeV γ -ray emissions from this low-luminosity active galactic nucleus. The observation by LHAASO's Water Cherenkov Detector Array during the active period has a significance level of 8.8 σ with a best-fit photon spectral index Γ = 2.56 ± 0.14 and a flux f _1–10 TeV = (7.0 ± 1.1 _sta ± 0.35 _syst ) × 10 ^−13 photons cm ^−2 s ^−1 , or approximately 5% of the Crab Nebula. The discovery of VHE gamma-ray emission from NGC 4278 indicates that compact, weak radio jets can efficiently accelerate particles and emit TeV photons.

Brief episodes of low oxygen breathing (therapeutic acute intermittent hypoxia; tAIH) may serve as an effective plasticity-promoting primer to enhance the effects of transcutaneous spinal stimulation-enhanced walking therapy (WALKtSTIM) in persons with chronic (>1 year) spinal cord injury (SCI). Pre-clinical studies in rodents with SCI show that tAIH and WALKtSTIM therapies harness complementary mechanisms of plasticity to maximize walking recovery. Here, we present a multi-site clinical trial protocol designed to examine the influence of tAIH + WALKtSTIM on walking recovery in persons with chronic SCI. We hypothesize that daily (eight sessions, 2 weeks) tAIH + WALKtSTIM will elicit faster, more persistent improvements in walking recovery than either treatment alone. To test our hypothesis, we are conducting a placebo-controlled clinical trial on 60 SCI participants who randomly receive one of three interventions: tAIH + WALKtSTIM; Placebo + WALKtSTIM; and tAIH + WALKtSHAM. Participants receive daily tAIH (fifteen 90-sec episodes at 10% O2 with 60-sec intervals at 21% O2) or daily placebo (fifteen 90-sec episodes at 21% O2 with 60-sec intervals at 21% O2) before a 45-min session of WALKtSTIM or WALKtSHAM. Our primary outcome measures assess walking speed (10-Meter Walk Test), endurance (6-Minute Walk Test), and balance (Timed Up and Go Test). For safety, we also measure pain levels, spasticity, sleep behavior, cognition, and rates of systemic hypertension and autonomic dysreflexia. Assessments occur before, during, and after sessions, as well as at 1, 4, and 8 weeks post-intervention. Results from this study extend our understanding of the functional benefits of tAIH priming by investigating its capacity to boost the neuromodulatory effects of transcutaneous spinal stimulation on restoring walking after SCI. Given that there is no known cure for SCI and no single treatment is sufficient to overcome walking deficits, there is a critical need for combinatorial treatments that accelerate and anchor walking gains in persons with lifelong SCI. Surface topography is an important parameter for evaluating the quality of surface machining, and the stress concentrations produced at notches can have a profound effect on the fatigue life of notched components. The stress concentration factor (SCF, Kt) and relative stress gradient (RSG, χ) are important parameters used to quantitatively characterize stress concentration. In this study, a finite-element (FE) method was used to evaluate the surface SCF and RSG and determine the effect of microscopic surface topography on machined surfaces. An FE simulation of the static tension test of V-notched round-bar specimens was performed, and the stress due to the local surface topography was investigated. The FE method was used to analyze the stress concentration of round-bar specimens with Kt=1, and the reliability of the results was verified using a perturbation method. The FE method was used to calculate the surface SCF and RSG with high accuracy. The surface SCF and RSG values increased with the surface roughness, and the local maximum values of the surface SCF and RSG were at the bottom of the local topography. Therefore, the SCF and RSG could be estimated based on a linear relationship involving average roughness.

As one of the most important means of transportation, high-speed trains have a large capacity for carrying passengers. However, their narrow carriages can easily exacerbate the spread of respiratory diseases. Just like personalized ventilation in an airplane, ventilation in seat armrests of high-speed trains may increase comfort for passengers, but also influence the diffusion characteristics of respiratory pollutants. In this study, the effect of personalized ventilation in seat armrests, on the diffusion characteristics of respiratory pollutants in train carriages, is studied by means of the tracer gas method. Taking the ceiling air supply as the original ventilation system, comfortable temperature and pollutant diffusion characteristics of the personalized ventilation system, with 4 different air supply angles, are investigated. The 4 angles are 0°, 30°, 45° and 60°. When the personalized ventilation with the above 4 angles is adopted, the fluctuation amplitudes of pollutants in the passenger breathing zone are reduced by 15.84%, 19.27%, 19.76% and 19.68%, respectively, compared with the original ventilation system. It indicates that the sensible use of personalized ventilation can effectively reduce the passengers’ contaminant concentrations in the breathing zone, thereby reducing the possibility of cross-contamination between passengers. In addition, the use of the personalized ventilation system leads to a slight improvement in the thermal comfort and flow uniformity in the carriage. Based on the results, personalized air supply with an angle of 45° is advised for use in high-speed trains.

The Module-0 Demonstrator is a single-phase 600 kg liquid argon time projection chamber operated as a prototype for the DUNE liquid argon near detector. Based on the ArgonCube design concept, Module-0 features a novel 80k-channel pixelated charge readout and advanced high-coverage photon detection system. In this paper, we present an analysis of an eight-day data set consisting of 25 million cosmic ray events collected in the spring of 2021. We use this sample to demonstrate the imaging performance of the charge and light readout systems as well as the signal correlations between the two. We also report argon purity and detector uniformity measurements and provide comparisons to detector simulations.

Abstract Element isotopes are characterized by distinct atomic masses and nuclear spins, which can significantly influence material properties. Notably, however, isotopes in natural materials are homogenously distributed in space. Here, we propose a method to configure material properties by repositioning isotopes in engineered van der Waals (vdW) isotopic heterostructures. We showcase the properties of hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) isotopic heterostructures in engineering confined photon-lattice waves—hyperbolic phonon polaritons. By varying the composition, stacking order, and thicknesses of h10BN and h11BN building blocks, hyperbolic phonon polaritons can be engineered into a variety of energy-momentum dispersions. These confined and tailored polaritons are promising for various nanophotonic and thermal functionalities. Due to the universality and importance of isotopes, our vdW isotope heterostructuring method can be applied to engineer the properties of a broad range of materials.

Abstract Background Work addiction (WA) threatens occupation-related health in many countries including China. This research aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of Bergen Work Addiction Scale (BWAS), the most common measure of WA, to facilitate relevant studies in Chinese workers. A network analysis was further conducted to identify central and bridge symptoms within the WA-anxiety network to improve intervention practices. Methods A total of 694 Chinese white-collar workers completed an online questionnaire survey in March of 2022, and the responses to BWAS from a subsample of 50 participants one month after this survey were also collected. Results The unidimensionality of BWAS was supported by results of exploratory factor analysis, exploratory graph analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis and we found satisfactory internal consistency and acceptable test-retest reliability. Multiple-group factor analyses confirmed the measurement invariance of BWAS across genders, districts (i.e., central China, eastern China, western China, and northeastern China), and age groups (i.e., young and middle-aged adults) while the convergent validity of BWAS was demonstrated by its significant correlations with Dutch Work Addiction Scale (r = 0.62, p

Sea ice concentration (SIC) is the main geophysical variable for quantifying change in sea ice in the polar regions. A continuous SIC product is key to informing climate and ecosystem studies in the polar regions. Our study generates a new SIC product covering the Arctic and Antarctic from November 2010 to December 2019. It is the first long-term SIC product derived from the Microwave Radiation Imager (MWRI) sensors on board the Chinese FengYun-3B, FengYun-3C, and FengYun-3D satellites, after a recent re-calibration of brightness temperature. We modified the previous Arctic Radiation and Turbulence Interaction Study Sea Ice (ASI) dynamic tie point algorithm mainly by changing input brightness temperature and initial tie points. The MWRI-ASI SIC was compared to the existing ASI SIC products and validated using ship-based SIC observations. Results show that the MWRI-ASI SIC mostly coincides with the ASI SIC obtained from the Special Sensor Microwave Imager series sensors, with overall biases of −1 ± 2 % in the Arctic and 0.5 ± 2 % in the Antarctic, respectively. The overall mean absolute deviation between the MWRI-ASI SIC and ship-based SIC is 16 % and 17 % in the Arctic and Antarctic, respectively, which is close to the existing ASI SIC products. The trend of sea ice extent (SIE) derived from the MWRI-ASI SIC closely agrees with the trends of the Sea Ice Index SIEs provided by the Ocean and Sea Ice Satellite Application Facility (OSI SAF) and the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). Therefore, the MWRI-ASI SIC is comparable with other SIC products and may be applied alternatively. Flow distortions in high-speed inlet systems are complex, and high-performance air-breathing propulsion systems. In this paper, large eddy simulations are performed to study the total pressure and swirl distortions in a Busemann inlet at freestream Mach number 6. The on-design flow condition with both the Attack Angle and Sideslip Angle equal to zero and two off-design conditions (Attack Angle = 6 deg, Sideslip Angle = 0 deg and Attack Angle = 6 deg, Sideslip Angle = 6 deg) are considered to explore the flow characteristics inside the inlet duct as well as the distortions at the inlet exit plane. It is found that under the on-design flow condition, the shock structures and boundary layer development are nearly axisymmetric about the inlet axis. The captured freestream is compressed smoothly through inlet duct. The total pressure loss is limited primarily to within the boundary layer region, and nearly no swirling flow is introduced during the flow compression process. Under the off-design flow conditions, the shock structures inside the inlet duct become non-axisymmetric, and localized strong shock–boundary layer interactions occur. In the case of the off-design flow condition with Attack Angle = 6 deg, Sideslip Angle = 0 deg, a large flow separation zone appears owing to the incidence of a strong curved shock on the wall surface at the leeward side in the inlet duct, and the low-kinetic-energy flow contained in this flow separation zone leads to an obvious total-pressure reduction at the exit plane of inlet. Meanwhile, a large-scale swirling flow is formed at the exit plane of inlet owing to the appearance of a nonuniform transverse pressure gradient. Under the off-design conditions, a pair of vortex is observed at the exit plane of inlet. The shock wave–boundary layer interactions under the off-design conditions are stronger than those under the on-design condition, which results in more intense total pressure and swirl distortions. The averages of the fluctuating distortions are more evident than the temporal-averaged total-pressure and swirl distortions. These results show that turbulent flow fluctuations are important in determining the overall distortion level in a Busemann inlet.

With rising costs of diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship, financial burdens on patients with cancer and negative effects from high costs, called financial toxicity (FT), are growing. Research suggests that FT may be experienced by more than half of working-age cancer survivors and a similar proportion may incur debt or avoid recommended prescription medications due to treatment costs. As FT can lead to worse physical, psychological, financial, and survival outcomes, there is a discrete need to identify research gaps around this issue that constrain the development and implementation of effective screening and innovative care delivery interventions. Prior research, including within a radiation oncology-specific context, has sought to identify the scope of FT among patients with cancer, develop assessment tools to evaluate patient risk, quantify financial sacrifices, and qualify care compromises that occur when cancer care is unaffordable. FT is a multifactorial problem and potential solutions should be pursued at all levels of the health care system (patient-provider, institutional, and systemic) with specific regard for patients’ individual/local contexts. Solutions may include selecting alternative treatment schedules, discussing financial concerns with patients, providing financial navigation services, low-cost transportation options, and system-wide health policy shifts. This review summarizes existing FT research, describes tools developed to measure FT, and suggests areas for intervention and study to help improve FT and outcomes for radiation oncology patients.
