Thermal anomalies in the temperature dependence of the heat capacity around the superconducting transition of a hole-doped superconductor, κ–(BEDT-TTF)4Hg2.89Br8, which is known as a dimer-Mott triangle lattice system are investigated by the ac modulation technique under external pressure. To detect the electronic phase transition under applied pressure conditions for a single crystal sample, we have improved resolution of the ac modulation technique. By tracking the appropriate frequency during the temperature scan measurement, we succeed in detecting the thermal anomaly with the applied pressure of 0.3 GPa where the electronic state is located in the crossover region of non-Fermi liquid to Fermi liquid. Application of the external magnetic fields of H = 2 and 6 T in the in-plane direction reveals that the superconductivity in this doped triangle lattice of molecular dimers is relatively stable against the magnetic field.

Background Systemic inflammation resulting from comorbidities is postulated to play a central role in the pathophysiology of heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Lymphopenia is a common manifestation of systemic inflammation and a prognostic factor in patients with HF. However, the association of lymphopenia with the comorbidity burden is unknown, and its prognostic value in patients with HFpEF admitted due to acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) also remains elusive. Purpose We sought to clarify the relation of lymphopenia with the comorbidity burden, as well as its prognostic value and complementarity with the Get with the Guidelines-Heart Failure (GWTG-HF) risk score in ADHF patients with HFpEF. Methods Patients' data were extracted from the Prospective mUlticenteR obServational stUdy of patIenTs with Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (PURSUIT-HFpEF), which is a prospective multicentre registry for patients with ADHF with a LVEF ≥50%. We analysed data of patients admitted between June 2016 and December 2020 who survived to discharge. The total lymphocyte count (per μL) and GWTG-HF risk score were obtained on admission, as previously reported. Comorbidity burden was defined as the number of comorbidities from the following: atrial fibrillation, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, coronary artery disease, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, anaemia, and obesity. The study endpoint was all-cause death. Results Over a median follow-up of 417 days, 181 of the 1013 included patients died. The proportion of patients with a total lymphocyte count in the lowest tertile was increasing with the increase in comorbidity burden (Figure 1). In the multivariate Cox analysis, a total lymphocyte count in the intermediate (hazard ratio [HR] 1.55, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.00–2.41, p=0.0486) and lowest tertile (HR 2.23, 95% CI 1.47–3.38, p=0.0002) was independently associated with all-cause death. There was a significant difference in the all-cause death rate among the groups stratified by total lymphocyte count tertile (Figure 2). The total lymphocyte count had a higher C-statistic value (0.627) for the prediction of all-cause death than the GWTG-HF risk score, and the C-statistic value of the GWTG-HF risk score was improved when the total lymphocyte count was added (0.613 to 0.636, p=0.0260). Conclusions Lymphopenia was significantly associated with comorbidity burden. Furthermore, it was a useful marker of poor prognosis in hospitalised patients with acute HFpEF and was shown to be complementary to the contemporary HF prognostic score. Samples of the carbonaceous asteroid Ryugu were brought to Earth by the Hayabusa2 spacecraft. We analyzed 17 Ryugu samples measuring 1 to 8 millimeters. Carbon dioxide–bearing water inclusions are present within a pyrrhotite crystal, indicating that Ryugu’s parent asteroid formed in the outer Solar System. The samples contain low abundances of materials that formed at high temperatures, such as chondrules and calcium- and aluminum-rich inclusions. Two tuning techniques are proposed to design decentralized PID controllers for weakly coupled and general MIMO systems, respectively. Each SISO loop is designed separately, and the controller parameters are obtained as a solution of a linear programming optimization problem with constraints on the process stability margins. Despite the SISO approach, loop interactions are accounted for either by Gershgorin bands (non-iterative method) or an equivalent open-loop process (iterative method). The tuning results and performance from both methods are illustrated in four simulations of linear processes, and a laboratory-scale application in a Peltier process. Four applications contemplate closed-loop performance comparisons between the proposed techniques and techniques from the literature. One application illustrates the feasibility of the proposed iterative method, based on EOPs, in tuning decentralized PIDs for a 5 × 5 system. Moreover, an analysis of the effect of model uncertainty in the phase and gain margins of the closed-loop process is performed.

Aim The need to identify novel biomarkers for early diagnosis and treatment of diabetic nephropathy is widely recognized. However, only a few studies have investigated the association between biomarkers and the onset of albuminuria. In this study, we aimed to investigate a panel of biomarkers suitable for predicting microalbuminuria. Methods Some 346 Japanese people with type 2 diabetes exhibiting normoalbuminuria were studied. The endpoint was defined as the onset of microalbuminuria. Thirty biomarkers were selected from among urinary biomarkers described in previous studies. A panel of biomarkers was selected using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO). The prognostic performance of the developed panel was evaluated. Results During a mean follow-up of 6.2 years, 45 people progressed to microalbuminuria. A composite panel of six biomarkers (monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, osteopontin, soluble human tumour necrosis factor receptor-1, tenascin C, vascular endothelial growth factor-A and kidney injury molecule-1) was developed using LASSO. Compared with the basal model comprising estimated GFR and urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio, addition of these six biomarkers significantly increased the overall C index from 0.773 to 0.824 (P = 0.019). Net reclassification improvement and integrated discrimination improvement were estimated to be 0.412 (P = 0.049) and 0.040 (P = 0.040), respectively. Decision curve analysis also showed that the model with the six novel biomarkers had a better prognostic value for predicting the onset of microalbuminuria. The optimism was moderate or negligible according to measures. Conclusions The panel consisting of six novel urinary biomarkers effectively predicted incident microalbuminuria in people with type 2 diabetes.

ICA-selective MRA using a pencil beam presaturation pulse can accurately visualize anterior communicating artery flow. We evaluated the impact of anterior communicating artery flow on the perioperative hemodynamic status and new ischemic lesions after carotid revascularization.Eighty-three patients with carotid artery stenosis were included. We assessed anterior communicating artery flow using ICA-selective MRA. The preoperative hemodynamic status was measured using SPECT. We also measured the change in regional cerebral oxygen saturation after temporary ICA occlusion. New ischemic lesions were evaluated by DWI on the day after treatment.Anterior communicating artery flow was detected in 61 patients, but it was not detected in 22 patients. Preoperative cerebrovascular reactivity was significantly higher in patients with (versus without) anterior communicating artery flow with a mean peak systolic velocity of ≥200 cm/s (39.6% [SD, 23.8%] versus 25.2% [SD, 16.4%];The absence of anterior communicating artery flow influenced the perioperative hemodynamic status in patients with carotid stenosis and was associated with an increased incidence of new ischemic lesions after carotid revascularization.

This paper reports the calibration and validation of a cone crusher model using industrial data. Usually, there are three calibration parameters in the condensed breakage function, by contrast, in this work, every entry of the lower triangular breakage function matrix is considered a calibration parameter. The calibration problem is cast as an optimization problem based on the least squares method. The results show that the calibrated model is able to fit the validation datasets closely, as seen from the low values of the objective function. Another significant advantage of the proposed approach is that the model can be calibrated on data that are usually available from industrial operation, no additional laboratory tests are required. Calibration and validation tests on datasets collected from two different mines show that the calibrated model is a strong candidate for use in various dynamic simulation applications, such as control system design, equipment sizing, operator training, and optimization of crushing circuits.

It is not known whether perioperative chemotherapy, compared with adjuvant chemotherapy alone, improves disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with upfront resectable colorectal liver metastases (CLM). The aim of this study was to estimate the impact of neoadjuvant 5-fluorouracil, leucovorin and oxaliplatin (FOLFOX) on DFS in patients with upfront resectable CLM.Consecutive patients who presented with up to five resectable CLM at two Japanese and two French centres in 2008-2015 were included in the study. Both French institutions favoured perioperative FOLFOX, whereas the two Japanese groups systematically preferred upfront surgery plus adjuvant chemotherapy. Inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) and Cox regression multivariable models were used to adjust for confounding. The primary outcome was DFS.Some 300 patients were included: 151 received perioperative chemotherapy and 149 had upfront surgery plus adjuvant chemotherapy. The weighted 3-year DFS rate was 33·5 per cent after perioperative chemotherapy compared with 27·1 per cent after upfront surgery plus adjuvant chemotherapy (hazard ratio (HR) 0·85, 95 per cent c.i. 0·62 to 1·16;Compared with adjuvant chemotherapy, perioperative FOLFOX does not improve DFS in patients with resectable CLM, provided adjuvant chemotherapy is given successfully.Se desconoce si la quimioterapia perioperatoria en comparación con la quimioterapia adyuvante sola mejora la supervivencia libre de enfermedad (Se incluyeron pacientes consecutivos que presentaban hasta cinco CLM resecables en dos centros japoneses y dos centros franceses entre 2008 a 2015. Run-of-mine ore is usually too large to be useful for construction or metallurgy. Large particles must be reduced to specific sizes to either comply with aggregate sizing regulations, or facilitate mineral liberation; therefore, in the aggregates and mineral processing industries, run-of-mine ore is broken in crushing circuits by cone crushers. Here, we review the cone crusher literature, focusing on the modeling and control of crushing circuits. A total of 61 works published in the primary literature, ranging from 1972 to 2020, are classified and discussed with respect to the model formulation—i.e., population balance models, empirical models, or data-driven models—and control strategy—i.e., proportional-integral-derivative, model predictive control, expert system, or model-free control. The data are summarized in a table that makes locating a particular formulation or strategy quick and easy. The discussion of the current state of the art of crushing circuit modeling and control technologies consolidates the results available in the literature, as well as the challenges that we must overcome to increase crushing performance through control and optimization. The discussion of future trends brings attention to the discrete element method, model based control, plant-wide and mine-to-mill optimization, and machine learning applications for data acquisition and process optimization. Background Although catheter ablation targeting ganglionated plexi (GP) playing an important role in formation of triggers and substrates of atrial fibrillation (AF) has been reported as one of the effective ablation strategies in non-paroxysmal AF (non-PAF) patients, its effectiveness varies among the study groups. More recently, ablation targeting spatiotemporal electrogram dispersion (STED) areas, assumed to contain AF drivers in forms of rotational activation is proposed. However, the optimal ablation strategy for non-PAF is still controversial since the exact mechanisms of non-PAF are not well understood. Purpose To investigate the effectiveness of GP ablation for autonomic modification and STED ablation for modulation of AF drivers. Methods Consecutive 149 non-PAF patients who underwent STED ablation in our center were enrolled. We detected STED areas within the whole left and right atrium during AF using PentaRay®, and ablated them. If AF was terminated during STED ablation, we finished the procedure without burning the remaining STED areas. If not, electrical cardioversion was applied. The outcome was compared with that in consecutive 156 non-PAF patients undergoing GP ablation previously in our center. Results (1) The clinical characteristics were comparable between two groups (see Table). (2) A Kaplan-Meier curve showed that there was no significant difference between the freedom rates from non-PAF/non-paroxysmal atrial tachycardia (non-PAT) after single procedure in STED group and GP group (Figure, left). (3) However, the freedom rates from non-PAT in STED group was significantly lower than that GP group (Figure, right). Conclusions The recurrence type of atrial arrhythmia after ablation was remarkably different between ablation of STED and GP. The correlation between microstructure and mechanical property of ion irradiated 12Cr-6Al ODS ferritic steel was studied. Ion irradiation experiments were performed using 10.5 MeV Fe ions up to the nominal displacement damage of 20 dpa with the damage rate of 1 × 10−4 dpa/s, while the irradiation temperature was 300 °C. Oxide nanoparticles showed stable size distribution and mean size under ion irradiation up to 20 dpa. The irradiation microstructure examined by TEM revealed that the mean size and number densities of irradiation-induced defect clusters increased with the displacement damage. The correlation between irradiation microstructure and radiation hardening was theoretically calculated using the dispersed barrier hardening model. The results showed a good agreement with the experimentally measured hardness data up to irradiation at 5 dpa, while a slight discrepancy was found between theoretical and experimental hardness values under irradiation at 20 dpa. Radiation hardening in 12Cr-6Al ODS ferritic steel was mainly caused by irradiation-induced defect clusters below the irradiation dose of 5 dpa. As the irradiation dose increased toward 20 dpa, an additional influence of the radiation appeared, which was assumed to be induced by α’ phase transformation.

Background The global incidences of dengue virus have increased the interest in studying and understanding the mosquito population dynamics. It is predominantly spread by Aedes aegypti in the tropical and sub-tropical countries in the world. Understanding these dynamics is important for public health in countries where climatic and environmental conditions are favorable for the propagation of these diseases. For this reason, a new model has been proposed to investigate the population dynamics of mosquitoes in a city. Methods The present paper discusses the numerical modeling of population dynamics of Ae. aegypti mosquitoes in an urban neighborhood of a city using the finite volume method. The model describes how populations spread through the city assisted by the wind. This model allows incorporating external factors (wind and chemical insecticides) and topography data (streets, building blocks, parks, forests and beach). The proposed model has been successfully tested in examples involving two Brazilian cities (City center, Juiz de Fora and Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro). Results Invasion phenomena of Ae. aegypti mosquitoes have been observed in each of the simulations. It was observed that, inside the blocks, the growth of the population for both winged and aquatic phase causes an infestation of Ae. aegypti in a short time. Within the blocks the mosquito population was concentrated and diffused slowly. In the streets, there was a long-distance spread, which was influenced by wind and diffusion with a low concentration of mosquito population. The model was also tested taking into account chemical insecticides spread in two different configurations. It has been observed that the insecticides have a significant effect on the mosquito population for both winged and aquatic phases when the chemical insecticides spread more uniformly along all the streets in a neighborhood of a city. Conclusions The presented methodology can be employed to evaluate and to understand the epidemic risks in a specific region of the city. Moreover the model allows an increase in efficiency of the existing mosquito population control techniques and to theoretically test new methods before involving the human population.
