'Především si řekněme, o čem tahle knížka není. Nechce nahradit standardní učebnici sociologického výzkumu, nenabízí úplnou zbrojnici metod a technik a už vůbec nechce naučit čtenáře statistice.

- Abstract
This dissertation analyses the mass media (the Czech communist press "Rudé právo") discourse of property restitutions one year after the revolution of 1989. The author is inspired by the approaches and procedures of Critical Discourse Analysis in investigating the discursive and extra-discursive practices of the communist/left wing newspaper Rudé Právo. From the perspective of symbolic power as control, she analyzes the newspaper text as well as the social context in which the text was produced. She reconstructs the institutional and organizational transformation of the Rudé Právo daily, whose social position and identity changed radically during 1990, from a Communist Party affiliated propagandist to a private left-wing newspaper. The author links a discursive, narrative, and recursive frame analysis of the Czech communist press with the Boltanski and Thévenot theory of justice and the theory of retrospective/transitional justice. The dissertation describes the establishment of the restitution agenda and successive crystallization of the restitution discourse during "year zero" after November 1989. The author also observes the discursive area on a more general scale, i.e., in the economic reform and transformation discourse. In 1990, the privatization ideology represented the core of the transformation...

The article presents information on the issue of housing under totality. This text interprets the autobiographies of eight sociologists (including its author) who decided to try out the effects of new biographical approaches for themselves. The project of the biographical research SAMI SEBE (Ourselves Selves) emerged spontaneously about two years ago when a group from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Charles University in Prague felt the need to tryout for themselves the biographical "long-life" approaches, also from the practical and research point of view. This article is the adapted version of the working text presented at the first international workshop organized by our group.(2) The selection of the concrete aspects of life--housing (in flats)--as the theme of the work was conditioned both by the personal (in fact, biographical) bias of the author and the fact that the subject was explicitly relevant for the others. This fact may be documented by the frequency and location of the "housing story" in the autobiographies (sometimes the flat was the subject, at other times "only" the context of the story) and by the urgency of the problems surrounding the living standards for many of the narrators. transformation. The confusion of a number of spheres and relations (for examples flat politics conceived as an instrument of social politics serving chiefly as the allocation of production), the obscured definition of legality and legitimacy, the ambiguity of many other institutions under totality and post-totality from the aspects of everyday life needs such as having somewhere to live (and discussions about this) are here documented and illustrated.

- Abstract
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of introducing changes in area of social and legal child protection. In 2012, social and legal child protection act was significantly amended. The great inovation of this act has brought about significant changes, based in inspiration from the British model of social and legal child protection, which most strongly reflected in the concept of foster care, in increasing the participation of services users through continuous assessment of the child's situation and individual care planning. In order to unify common practice and ensure its quality, it has been chosen to achieve these objectives of unification the quality standards. In my qualitative research I am charting the attitudes of Departments of social and legal child protection at Prague Town district offices. Futhermore, using Kotter's eight-point process of changes, I search how much these attitudes have been reflected in the practice of managing their departments and facilitating the change process for the staff of these depatments. In the second round, the selection of researched leaders was guided by the idea of introducing "good practice". For this reason, the information is also briefly compared with the results of inspections carried by Prague City Hall.

Bonding is an emotional and biological process that creates a bond between a mother and her child and is among others important for easier breastfeeding, faster recovery of the mother etc. It is important to support it by an early contact between the mother and her newborn child. The diploma thesis aims to compare the discourse regarding mother-infant bonding and its support in our country around the year of 1980, when the rooming-in system appears, up to the present, with the milestone between 1998 and 2000, when the Centre of Active Birth was established as a result of changes in birth care that occurred then and which started to offer a different kind of care from the model that was known and used in the Czech Republic at that time. Emphasis will be put on the development of the discourse, changes in birth and after-birth care it has brought and changes of its participants and the role which women have as receivers of care. The theoretic part introduces the relatively little-known term 'bonding' and its support from the biological and social points of view, then discourse analysis will be applied in the methodological and experimental parts of the thesis. Analysed materials included media communication both in printed and electronic forms available at each analysed period. Keywords:...

This thesis deals with the generational shift in women's attitudes towards the upbringing of their own children in the early 21st century. The aim of this thesis is to determine how today's generation of mothers reflects the upbringing of their parents, reflection of their own experience with upbringing and whether that leads to some inter- generational shift or change within the approach itself. Possible causes and influences of shifts and changes are discussed. To achieve this goal a qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews with women - mothers was conducted. The research shows that in fact shifts in these approaches actually occur and that the main criterion is a reflection of one's own childhood in particular, reflection of one's parents and reflection of the current relationship with one's parents.

The aim of the diploma thesis is to find answers to questions connected to the symbolic construction of collective identity of the initial drug community in communist Czechoslovakia. This discourse creation of collective identity is analyzed on the basis of biographical interviews with outliving members of the then drug subculture. In the course of the terrain investigation there has been recorded a total of 34 narratives of the representatives of the two successive generations of this drug community by using the unstructured and semi-structured interview technique. For the purposes of this research, there has been analyzed 7 interviews closely connected to the beginning and the initial process of formation of drug community. By means of analysis and interpretation of the content of these biographical materials there are primarily captured the collectively shared interpretative frames of values and important identification attributes by which protagonists of the oldest generation of this community form their former collective identity. In this way is clarified how the narrators themselves re-construct and re-interpret their subjectively experienced "we" and at the same time using the symbolic resources to define borders against the non-members of this collectivity. The topic of the thesis deals with everyday life in Podblanicko Region during the socialist era. This is a local research that tries to show the memories of rural people on the period of normalization, defined by the 70s and 80s of the 20th century, in terms of food, clothing and housing. The research deals with the strategies, tactics and improvisations of the inhabitants of this region in the period of socialism, among other things focused on the lack of required goods in shops, poor supply, searching for not very high-quality construction materials and fashionable clothes. Apart from individual expressions, it deals with community style that inherently belongs to the rural population. The era of socialism is strongly ingrained in the mind of the people who lived at that time. It is clear from many sources that before the year 1989 people in the countryside did not live just meaningless lives, remarked and emptied by a totalitarian regime. In many cases, they tried to ignore the regime or they just were not interested in it. In their everyday life they created values, which were more important to them. However, they were able to realize the values mostly only partially. In order to achieve the things they considered important, their ingenuity, strategy and tactics were essential. A life in the...

Children growing up in the environment of social exclusion acquire values and habits which weaken and aggravate their integration into the school environment. The lack of success of such children at school is followed by limited educational and professional aspirations which reduce possibilities of their social integration. The problem of integration children with physical or mental handicap to the common schools and their incorporation to the class team is big problem of modern world. Success or failure of such integration depends upon many factors, among which belongs in the first place approach of persons, which play the biggest role in integration: parents, teacher and last but not least assistant, who directly work with child and helping him with the integration. Bachelor work is trying evaluate mutual cooperation of these three chief factors of integration namely on the principles of discourses, that were led with a number of representative assistants. In these interviews is ascertaining importance of position of the teachers like representative of schools, assistant like nearest collaborator with handicapped child and parents like no omissible authority and best expert of that child. Opinions of assistants on the work of teacher and parents and on cooperation with them are consisted of processing single talk and the attention here is...

ComputingMilieux_COMPUTERSANDEDUCATION - Abstract
Bachelors thesis "Myth called American high school" deals with an issue of high school studies in the United States of America from the perspective of Czechs who have experienced it in real terms. The main focus is on the hidden curriculum including knowledge, skills and attitudes which pupils learn even though this matter is not explicitly defined. In general terms it is possible to talk about a cultural transmission as it also includes values transferred from the teacher to the pupils. Hidden curriculum arises from the actual teaching style, the teachers' approach and the things being valued and encouraged the most. Less emphasis is then put on the officially declared curriculum with respect to the content of knowledge. The subject of study primarily includes social relations and interactions among people involved in the schooling environment, in which the informal rules of cooperation and coexistence are shaped. Strategies and types of authority which teachers assert when dealing with deviant behavior are being described, as well as the definition of deviant behavior from teacher perspective. Secondly, the study covers the structure of the class work with emphasis being put on the space devoted to different persons involved. At last, various types of lesson activities on which pupils participate...

- Abstract
This thesis is a final report from a qualitative study focused on vegetarian parents, who also lead their children to vegetarianism. The main purpose of the study was to examine in what ways the parents interpret and analyse their position in society, which often views the children vegetarianism as a controversial issue. The theoretical part of the work describes the background, which is relevant to the topic and help us to put the situation of vegetarian parents into a necessary context. The general information about (childhood) vegetarianism, health and social issues linked to it, are presented. The factors underlying the "family vegetarianism" - cultural relativity and symbolic of meat and nutritional discourse in combination with the ideology of motherhood, are also discussed. An entire section of the study was given to qualitative analysis of the half-structured interviews with eight vegetarian parents. The decision about the meatless diet of their children is not always accepted by general society or by their extended families and parents also often face moral judgments rather than medical problems. Therefore parents have to (re)interpret their parental identity in accordance with the positive ideology of parenthood, for example by pointing out the medical advantages of vegetarianism or by...

- Abstract
The point of this thesis is to explore the way of perception of the relationships between the second and the third generation in a family by grandchildren. These relationships make up an important part of the family; nevertheless they are not given an adequate research attention. The reason for this is often the perspective of disintegration of wider family relationships along with the evolution from traditional to modern society, which is not backed up by data, as the author shows in the theoretic part. Though the meaning of intergenerational relationships changes, they are still embedded into the relationships in nuclear family, which results from surveys of intergenerational relationships carried out here, in the Czech Republic. What will be important for the future form of intergenerational relationships are norms and patterns for the formation of these relationships internalized by the youngest generation. That is why the author focuses her analysis on the perception of the relationships between the second and the third generation in the eyes of grandchildren. She stems from narrative interviews with grandchildren on the topic of grandparents and using the method of grounded theory she comes to three different contexts of relationships perception in the eyes of grandchildren - the perception...

- Abstract
This thesis focuses on the controversy in Czech society over the displacement of Germans. The dispute is one of the most significant public debates related to the Czech past held since the fall of the communist regime. The work briefly summarizes the historical development of the controversy over the displacement and introduces the political context of the discussion held already in the democratic regime. The main part of the text consists of analysis of opinions on the issues of displacement in Czech newspapers in the period of one year directly before the Czech Republic entered the European Union Concerning methodology, the work is inspired by discourse analysis. However, the author is not that much focusing on the use of language, which is common within this methodological tradition, but rather on what is being expressed through the language, i. e. the contents of the discourse itself. In doing so, he refers to the work of the Czech-British anthropologist Ladislav Holý. The author concludes that two main approaches may be found within the debate over the displacement, and calls the first of them the "official" discourse and the other the "critical" discourse. Based on the analysis, it is not possible to speak of the two discourses as competing with each other in the form of notional oppositions,...

RESUME My intention was to foreshadow the construct of the re-émigré's self perception/self depiction as a way of setting up a framework within which each individual operates. Based on analysis of interviews with individual re-émigrés, I attempted to establish individual identifying categories which gave rise to such a framework. The central interest of the study was the analysis the act of the re-emigration, the return home, the return to motherland. Nevertheless, the act of return exists as a direct consequence of many earlier life (changing) (dominant) events, including the emigration itself. I considered it essential to make such events an integral part of my investigation (study). In this context, I have considered it essential to interrogate the act of 'homecoming'with the initial act of emigration, of going to exile, of the 'escape'. The testimonies of individual respondents indicated most clearly the key/central role played by the family and its influence, not just on the émigré him/herself, but in the wider context of family background,(cultural)roots, familial orientations, customs and conventions. The family was the one constant category which runs through the entire life cycle, forming the foundation of the individual's social situations and essentially underpins their context. The further...

- Abstract
This dissertation thesis on the issue "How Cosmoworld Forms and What It Is" deals with the formation and content of a magazine for young women named Cosmopolitan. The aim of this work is to ascertain, whether the type of the woman constructed by this magazine is the emancipated one, to uncover how the magazine defines itself or, put more aptly, how it helps to maintain traditional stereotypes attributed to womanhood. In the introduction, the author pursues the basic theoretical concept and methodological tools suitable to apply in analysing media like Cosmopolitan. The very research into the process of production of the magazine and its content is covered in the second part of the thesis. Using the means of discursive analysis, the author attempts to resolve the type of womanhood re/constructed by the magazine and to work out what are the backdrops or frames which the magazine sets womanhood in. Further, we see the author researching the very creation of the magazine (the ethnomethodological observation in the editorial office), identifying the rules followed in writing articles for Cosmopolitan. Having analysed the content of Cosmopolitan and the process of its production, the author has come to the conclusion that Cosmopolitan re/produces a woman who sees her liberation and emancipation in sexual freedom...

Introduced topic, or its selected part, was investigated using discourse analysis. It serves as a tool to identify and discuss patterns of thoughts, elements of argumentation and actor's strategies. They are parts - or even base - of media discourse about main topic, objects, subjects and time-space and others contexts. They are systematically coded according to discourse rules in a repeating categories and their overall configuration creates underlying concept of understanding the topic. - Abstract
Tendency of this article is to show, how three factual Gypsy children which were put away to creche directly after their born and which were educated with two "white" Czech families, create their identities. Basic research question was how the children construct their identities in interaction with the world and important others. My approach to this question is constructionist. I tried to find strategies of making identities. I worked with biographical stories. Simultaneously we can also speak about participate observation because I come from one of these families. Among my most important findings is the fact that children identity is influenced by parents standings and meanings. In the first family dominates a position that it is a stigma to be Gypsy in Czech racialist society. In the second family it is spoken about it that people should be valued according to their acts and not according to their flesh-colour. Gypsy child in Czech family has very difficult position because it does not properly belong to any society. Children from the first family realise their incident to Gypsies and try to manage their stigma with strategy. Child from the second family choose among both societies to obtain the biggest advantages. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
