Objective: This study aims to retrospectively examine the demographic characteristics, main causes of pain, diagnoses and applied treatment methods of patients who applied to a pain clinic. It is expected that these data will contribute to the evaluation of current clinical practices and the development of more effective pain management strategies.Methods: The study was conducted with a retrospective design among patients who presented to our clinic between January 2023 and December 2023. During this period, the medical records of the patients who applied to the pain clinic were examined. The patients' (age, gender), reasons for application (pain localization) and treatment approaches (drug therapies, interventional procedures) were recorded.Results: When demographic characteristics were examined, 56.8% of the 1210 patients included in the study were female, 43.2% were male, and the mean age was determined as 47.42±20.56. When the complaints of the patients were examined, the reasons for application were back pain, leg pain and widespread body pain in order of frequency. In terms of treatment methods, the most frequently performed procedure was the plan block, followed by epidural analgesia. Conclusion: In our study, it was observed that the majority of patients applying to the pain clinic applied due to chronic pain and needed multidisciplinary treatment approaches. These data are important for the development of new strategies for pain management in clinical practices and for increasing patient satisfaction. It is recommended that more studies be conducted, especially on the effectiveness of interventional methods and the role of psychological support.

This study was carried out to determine the effects of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria and mycorrhiza treatments on the development of Zinnia elegans L. ‘Zesty’ and Dahlia variabilis L. ‘Figaro Violet’ cultivars. In the study, a suspension was first prepared from bacterial isolates developed at 25±2 °C for 24 hours. The prepared suspensions were adjusted to an absorbance value of 0,3 at 600 nanometers in a spectrophotometer. D. variabilis seedlings were immersed in suspensions prepared from ZE-12, ZE-13 and ZE-12+ZE-13, Z. elegans seedlings were immersed in suspensions prepared from ZE-2, ZE-7, ZE-12, ZE-13, ZE-12+ZE-13 for 30 minutes. In addition, Z. elegans seedlings were kept in mycorrhiza prepared at a concentration of 5000 ppm for 10 seconds. At the end of the period, flower seedlings were planted in pots with a mixture of peat and perlite. As the control group, seedlings without rhizobacteria and mycorrhiza treatment were used in both cultivars. The experiment was established with 3 replications and 10 plants per replication. The applications made in the D. variabilis experiment remained the same as the control in all other parameters except root dry weight. ZE-13 application was effective on root dry weight. It was determined that the applications made in Z. elegans seedlings increased the flower stem thickness and the number of leaves, especially the ZE-13 application was the most effective application. In conclusion, with this study, it was revealed that rhizobacteria and mycorrhiza applications, which are of natural origin and do not harm the environment, have the potential to be used in ornamental plants cultivation, and that these applications should be expanded.

Inflammation plays a role in the pathogenesis of COPD by interfering with the protease/antiprotease and oxidant/antioxidant balance. There is no adequate data about the relationship between oxidative stress biomarkers and FEV1 values in stable COPD patients. Prospective cohort study, designed in tertiary care chest disease hospitals' outpatient clinic. COPD patients were approved informed consent were included in the study. The total antioxidant status (TAS,), total oxidant status (TOS), total thiol (TT), native thiol (NT), IL1 IL6, and TNFα levels were measured. The mean age of 33 COPD patients who joined the study was 61±9,32 years, while their average body mass index (BMI) was 27±4,31 kg/m2. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of age, gender, weight, smoking status and comorbidities. According to the results of the analysis, there was a statistically significant difference in TOS, TAS, oxidative stress index (OSI), TT, NT, DIS, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNFα between the control and COPD patient groups (p [Med-Science 2022; 11(2.000): 770-74]

Introduction: The cardiovascular effects of alcohol consumption are variable. In addition to its protective effects, it may also result in mortality. In this study, we presented a case, who developed cardiac arrest after excessive ethanol intake.Case Report: A 68-year-old patient, who was brought to the emergency room due to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, showed ST elevation in the electrocardiogram after returning to spontaneous circulation, and no vascular occlusion was detected in the coronary angiography. The patient’s blood ethanol level was found to be 605 mg/dl and he had cardiac arrest again in the follow-up. He did not respond to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for 30 minutes and died.Discussion: Acute alcohol intoxication causes various metabolic changes, cardiovascular side effects, gastrointestinal side effects, and respiratory depression. It has been stated that coronary vasospasm can occur even when ethanol levels reach a basal level after 9 hours of excessive alcohol intake. We believe that ST-segment elevation developed as a result of vasospasm and respiratory depression emerged after ethanol intake and that the patient had a cardiac arrest.Conclusion: We contend that ST-segment elevation after spontaneous return to circulation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients may be caused by excessive ethanol intake, besides acute coronary syndromes.

Aim: This research aims to determine the impact of the unit they work at and being diagnosed with Covid-19 on the secondary traumatic stress level in midwives. Method: Sample of the cross-sectional and comparative research consists of 170 midwives working in a province located in the east of Turkey. The data was collected with Personal Information Form and Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale (STSS). Descriptive statistics, t-test in independent groups and One-way Anova Analysis were used for data analysis. Results: It was determined that 27.1% of the midwives work at Covid service, 28.8% work at community health/family health centres and 44.1% work at other services. It was determined that the rate of midwives who were diagnosed with Covid-19 during the pandemic was 69.4%, the rate of midwives whose close colleagues were diagnosed with Covid-19 was 90.0%. It was found that average scores that midwives get from STSS total and all subdimensions varied statistically significantly between the units they work at (p Conclusion: It was determined that midwives working at Covid-19 services experience higher secondary traumatic stress than those working at other services. In addition, while secondary traumatic stress level is higher in midwives whose close colleagues were diagnosed with Covid-19, it was determined that secondary traumatic stress level is lower in midwives who are diagnosed with Covid-19 than those who are not diagnosed.

Amaç: Literatürde “büyük taklitçi” olarak anılan inflamatuar bir hastalık olan sarkoidoz olgularında semptomlar ve tutulan organlar açısından cinsiyete göre farklılıklar bildirilmiştir. Bu çalışmada sarkoidoz olgularındaki semptom ve bulguların cinsiyete ve hastalığın evrelerine göre farklılıkları araştırıldı.Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu retrospektif gözlemsel kohort çalışmamızda sarkoidoz tanılı olgular başvuru semptomlarına göre; asemptomatik, pulmoner semptomlar, ekstrapulmoner semptomlar, pulmoner ve ekstrapulmoner semptom birlikteliği olarak gruplandırıldı. Her iki cinsiyet bulguların sıklığı açısından karşılaştırıldı.Bulgular: Çalışmaya alınan 338 hastanın %71’i kadın olup yaş ortalaması 42,5±11,6 idi. Olguların %86’sı başvuru anında semptomatik olup, semptomların %31’i yalnız pulmoner, %23’ü yalnız ekstrapulmoner, %32’sinde ise hem pulmoner hem de ekstrapulmoner semptomlar birlikte idi. Kadın ve erkeklerde öksürük (sırasıyla %45; %42; p=0,620), balgam çıkarma (sırasıyla %9; %11; p=0,535), hemoptizi (sırasıyla %2; %1; p=0,678), ateş (sırasıyla %4; %4; p=0,999) bulguları açısından cinsiyete göre anlamlı farklılık bulunamadı. Dispne kadınlarda erkek olgulara göre anlamlı olarak daha sık izlendi (sırasıyla %33; %22; p=0,048). Kadın hastalarda erkeklere kıyasla göğüs ağrısı anlamlı olarak daha az görüldü (sırasıyla %7; %20; p=0,001). Aşırı terleme erkeklerde kadınlara göre anlamlı olarak daha fazla görülürken (p=0,004), eritema nodosum kadınlarda erkeklere göre fazla bulundu (p=0,003). Terleme dışındaki konstitüsyonel yakınmalarda cinsiyet farkı izlenmedi.Sonuç: Sarkoidozlu kadınlar daha yaşlıdır ve nefes darlığı ile eritema nodosum, kadınlarda erkeklere göre anlamlı oranda sık bulunmuştur. Erkeklerde ise terleme ve göğüs ağrısı belirgin yüksek tespit edilmiştir.

INTRODUCTION[|]In cases of pulmonary sarcoidosis, extrapulmonary involvement is not uncommon. The skin, eyes, and lymph nodes are the most common sites of extrapulmonary involvement, and multiple organs may be involved at the same time. In this study, patients with extrapulmonary sarcoidosis were investigated in terms of the localization of involvement.[¤]METHODS[|]Patients diagnosed with sarcoidosis between 1994 and 2015 were evaluated retrospectively. Demographic characteristics, symptoms, organ involvement, diagnostic methods, and the length of time between the diagnosis of sarcoidosis and additional organ involvement were recorded. The patients were consulted to the departments of dermatology, ophthalmology, and cardiology, and a chest X-ray, high-resolution computed tomography, and abdominal ultrasound examinations were performed.[¤]RESULTS[|]Extrapulmonary involvement was detected in 144 of a total of 337 sarcoidosis patients. In 92% of those patients with extrapulmonary involvement, there was accompanying pulmonary involvement. Women made up 75% of the group, and the mean age was 43 years. The most commonly detected extrapulmonary involvement was of the skin (n=41), followed by erythema nodosum (n=37), and involvement of the liver (n=24), lymph nodes (n=20), spleen (n=18), and salivary/parotid gland (n=15). The most frequent diagnostic method used was mediastinoscopy (n=41), followed by a skin biopsy (n=23), and a transbronchial lung biopsy (n=19). Of the 26 (18%) patients who had multiple-organ involvement, 2 were diagnosed as stage 0, 14 were stage 1, 9 were stage 2, and 1 was stage 3. The mean length of time before a diagnosis of extrapulmonary involvement was 24 days.[¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]If there is extrapulmonary involvement in a case of sarcoidosis, it should be kept in mind that more than 1 organ system may be involved and the relevant additional tests may be required.[¤]
