This article is a scoping review that examines the barriers and facilitators to active participation in the community for individuals with Down syndrome (DS). The review analyzed 14 studies and found that the availability of specialized programs and professionals, transportation, and attitudes and behaviors were the most commonly cited barriers and facilitators. The review emphasizes the need for more research on participation in community activities, daily activities, and leisure activities, particularly among adults. Understanding these barriers and facilitators is crucial for developing effective strategies to promote active involvement for individuals with DS. [Extracted from the article]

La educación en tecnología en la escuela básica permite al estudiante adquirir destrezas que le faciliten relacionarse con un entorno equipado de artefactos de uso diario; cuando un niño con discapacidad intelectual llega al aula regular por medio del programa de inclusión, la institución debe realizar las adaptaciones necesarias de acuerdo con las características individuales para que él pueda alcanzar el éxito en su proceso escolar. Dentro de este contexto un recurso educativo digital (RED), apoya el aprendizaje y el desarrollo de habilidades en esta población porque contiene elementos audiovisuales y facilita la repetición de la información. El presente artículo describe la contribución de un RED, en el desarrollo de la competencia en tecnología para dos niños con síndrome de Down (SD), que cursan segundo grado de primaria en un colegio oficial de Bogotá, Colombia; mediante una investigación de enfoque cualitativo, exploratorio, a través del estudio de caso. Los resultados indican que los niños SD desarrollan la habilidad para reconocer y utilizar de forma apropiada, los aparatos tecnológicos que encuentran en su ambiente cotidiano, con el RED, donde intervienen aspectos como el aprendizaje, comunicación, memoria, motivación, interacción, autonomía y seguridad.

11. Validação do instrumento levantamento de dúvidas após diagnósitco da síndrome de down

Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, exploratória, descritiva e transversal com objetivo de desenvolver e validar um instrumento para identificação de dúvidas de pais após diagnóstico da síndrome de Down (T21). Para este trabalho propõe-se apresentar o processo de validação de pares de um instrumento construído a fim de contemplar o objetivo da pesquisa. Foi realizada uma avaliação por cinco profissionais, altamente qualificadas no tema proposto, em áreas afins e complementares, professoras universitárias com grande experiência. O questionário foi avaliado quanto à sua abrangência, consistência, pertinência das questões e relação com os resultados esperados. Inicialmente o instrumento era composto de três blocos, após o processo de validação passou a ter dez. Cada bloco corresponde a um assunto diferente como, 1- Diagnóstico; 2- síndrome de Down; 3- aspectos emocionais; 4- Futuro; 5- Autonomia; 6- Saúde; 7- Desenvolvimento; Práticas educativas parentais; 9- Alimentação e 10-Direitos. Inicialmente eram 24 perguntas e, após a avaliação, ficaram 93. Foi utilizada a plataforma virtual KoboToolBox, um software que permite a coleta de dados com smartphone e a tabulação automática em diversos formatos, além disso o software facilita o processo de coleta online. A riqueza desse processo de validação por pares foia ampliação do olhar sobre um mesmo constructo baseado naexperiência de profissionais diferentes que de alguma forma contribuíram para o instrumento em construção.

Se presenta la tesis doctoral de Beatriz Hontanilla-Pizarro defendida en la Universidad de Lisboa en abril de 2024. Con metodología mixta que combina métodos cualitativos y cuantitativos, se expone a dos grupos (con y sin Síndrome de Down) la creación de un objeto gráfico para su posterior evaluación. El resultado indica que no existe diferencia entre los diseños gráficos realizados por un grupo o el otro. Así pues, se puede inferir que la estigmatización de las personas con Síndrome de Down puede ser un factor determinante en la no inserción laboral, en el campo del diseño gráfico y la creatividad, de personas con Síndrome de Down.

A sexualidade de mulheres com deficiência vem sendo tratada como tabu por mães e pessoas que trabalham de maneira muito próxima a essas mulheres. A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo analisar as narrativas de mães e profissionais sobre a sexualidade das mulheres com Síndrome de Down (SD). Para isso foram realizadas entrevistas com mães de pessoas com SD e com profissionais que trabalham diretamente com tais indivíduos. Os resultados mostram que o silêncio é a norma. As participantes da pesquisa ficaram visivelmente incomodadas de falar sobre o tema e quando falaram disseram que as mulheres com Síndrome de Down não são independentes no que diz respeito aos seus próprios corpos. Uma das consequências graves da negação ao direito básico pelos seus corpos é o alto número de violência sexual sofrida pelas mulheres com Síndrome de Down.

RESUMO Objetivo Investigar as estruturas e funções orofaríngeas de uma população pediátrica com Síndrome de Down (SD) e apneia obstrutiva do sono (AOS) e correlacionar com o índice de apneia/hipopneia (IAH) e questionários do sono. Método 12 Crianças com SD e AOS, entre 4 e 12 anos, foram submetidas à polissonografia (PSG); questionários do sono, Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ) e Obstructive Sleep Apnea-18 (OSA-18); e triagem fonoaudiológica por meio do Short Evaluation of Orofacial Myofunctional Protocol (ShOM). Resultados Verificou-se uma correlação positiva entre pontuações mais elevadas no ShOM e o índice de apneia hipopneia (IAH) e entre o ShOM e número de hipopneias. As alterações miofuncionais orofaciais observadas no grupo estudado foram: respiração oral, alteração no tônus e competência labial, na postura de língua em repouso e na deglutição e alteração oclusal. Verificou-se também, um risco aumentado para AOS conforme os questionários do sono, bem como presença de obesidade e sobrepeso, mas sem correlação com a gravidade da AOS. Conclusão Todas as crianças apresentaram alterações miofuncionais orofaciais, sendo que escores mais altos no ShOM, ou seja, um maior comprometimento miofuncional orofacial, estavam associados à maior gravidade de AOS, sugerindo que a avaliação miofuncional orofacial dentro de uma abordagem multidisciplinar pode auxiliar na identificação de fatores de risco para AOS em crianças com SD.

16. Efficacy of Early Intervention Programmes: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Background: Early childhood intervention is a form of intervention aimed at children to overcome difficulties in different areas of their development after birth. There are multiple early intervention programmes, but only a few studies assess their efficacy using data. Objective: A systematic review and meta-analysis of early intervention programmes was carried out. Method: Inclusion criteria were considered to be empirical studies, with outcome data on children between 0 and 6 years of age with various developmental problems. The review was conducted in nine databases. Results: Of the total number of studies from 2000 to 2021 in English and Spanish, 40 studies were included that looked at the efficacy of the programmes. Of these, 19 used comparisons with a control group, and 13 used single-subject designs, as well as other designs. The programmes were very diverse, mostly based on behavioural procedures, and aimed at promoting the development of specific areas. The quality of the studies is medium-high. The meta-analysis included 18 studies with a mean effect size d = 0.45 (CI = 0.18, 0.67), with high sample heterogeneity and low study selection bias. Conclusions: Early childhood interventions have a medium and positive efficacy on the skills and abilities of children with developmental problems. The limitations of the reviewed studies are discussed, as well as the need for well-defined programmes, long-term measurements, and comparisons of different types of programmes among them. Down syndrome is a chromosomal disorder characterized by below-average intellectual capacity with slow physical and psychomotor development. The objective of this study was to identify the implications of playing sports (football) on the gross motor skills compromised in adolescents with Down síndrome (SD). A qualitative approach was used, through a multiple case study methodology, with descriptive scope, the instrument applied was the semi-structured interview and direct observation, with a sample of eight participants with Down syndrome who attended a headquarters of the National Athletic Club. It was found that the gross motor skills compromised in adolescents with 'DS' were: balance, coordination and strength, flexibility and agility, spatial-temporal perception, as difficulties were observed in performing initial locomotion-type, manipulative and stable movements. It was concluded that it is important to have sports intervention programs for the population with 'DS' to overcome and compensate for the limitations present in their motor skills, and also to expand the knowledge of specialists in the different sports fields as an opportunity to promote motor development. from a pedagogical approach, in accordance with the special needs that are essential at an early age. O presente estudo apresentara as políticas públicas que contribuem com diversos aspectos da vida das pessoas que foram acometidas por alguma deficiência, no caso específico da pesquisa as pessoas com síndrome de down. Diante o exposto a pesquisa descreve como objetivo as principais políticas públicas de inclusão as pessoas com síndrome de down, buscando possibilidades inclusivas ao contexto escolar, e assim, descrevendo aspectos ligados ao favorecimento obtidos através dessas políticas nos diversos contextos sociais. A metodologia utilizada foi a pesquisa bibliográfica, buscando através de uma base teórica ancorada nas leis, decretos e artigos que enfatizam sobre as principais políticas públicas que destacam em seus preceitos a garantia dos direitos as pessoas com deficiência. Portanto a pesquisa concluiu que é através da efetivação das políticas públicas inclusivas, que as pessoas com deficiência poderão de fato buscar através das leis a efetivação de seus direitos e assim possam viver de forma igualitária a qualquer sujeito sem nenhuma deficiência. Dessa forma as políticas públicas inclusivas que buscam implementar através dos seus descritos um favorecimento aqueles que foram acometidos com alguma deficiência, acabam se tornando um fundamento de fortalecimento e avanços no processo de desenvolvimento de forma integral a todas as pessoas com deficiência. Neonatos com síndrome de Down (SD) têm maior predisposição para Doença Mieloproliferativa Transitória (DMT), um distúrbio hematológico com proliferação transitória de células imaturas no sangue periférico e medula óssea. Alguns neonatos com DMT apresentam manifestações cutâneas caracterizadas por pápulas eritematosas difusas, com crostas, vesículas e pústulas, geralmente com envolvimento facial inicial e proeminente. Apesar da remissão espontânea da DTM ao longo de vários meses, cuidados de suporte podem ser exigidos em alguns casos e, ocasionalmente, quimioterapia. Descreve-se o caso de um recém-nascido, fenótipo de síndrome de Down, sexo masculino, que manifestou tais características no 5º dia de vida e propedêutica instituída em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal. O diagnóstico é clínico-laboratorial, portanto, foi definido pelas características típicas. O tratamento instituído envolveu medidas conservadoras objetivando cuidados com a pele e mucosas evitando traumas. Observou-se melhora de todas as lesões com um mês de vida. Logo, demonstra-se a importância do diagnóstico diferencial devido à necessidade de acompanhamento clínico regular e quimioterapia em alguns casos.

30. Actividad Física y su importancia en el Desarrollo Neurofuncional en los niños con síndrome de Down

La actividad física vigorosa y estructurada puede mejorar el control cognitivo en los niños con síndrome de Down, pero los estudios que relacionan la actividad física diaria con el control cognitivo han arrojado resultados contradictorios. Si bien la actividad física diaria medida objetivamente resume todos los casos de actividad física dentro de un período registrado, se requiere una duración mínima de actividad física continua para registrar un episodio de actividad física. Debido a que los períodos breves de actividad física de alta intensidad pueden representar una gran proporción del gasto energético diario de los niños relacionado con la actividad, este estudio analizo la actividad Física y su importancia en el Desarrollo Neurofuncional en los niños con síndrome de Down. Se analizo un total de 75 niños de entre 8 y 10 años (49 % niñas) llevaron un ActiGraph wGT3X+ en la cadera durante las actividades. La señal de aceleración del eje vertical se resumió en periodos de 1, 5 y 15 minutos. Se midió la actividad física moderada diaria y repetida, la actividad física de moderada a vigorosa y la actividad física vigorosa. Las series de actividad física se expresaron como la frecuencia y el tiempo dedicado a 2 series diferentes de actividad física continua, una que duró ≥10 s y la otra que duró ≥30 s a una intensidad determinada. El control inhibitorio se evaluó mediante respuestas conductuales a una tarea de flanqueador modificada. La asignación de recursos atencionales y la velocidad de procesamiento cognitivo se midieron utilizando la amplitud y latencia del componente P3 de los potenciales cerebrales relacionados con eventos, respectivamente. Las asociaciones entre la actividad física, los índices conductuales de control inhibitorio, la amplitud de P3 y la latencia se evaluaron mediante modelos de regresión jerárquica. La actividad física vigorosa diaria no se relacionó con el tiempo de reacción medio ni con la precisión ni en los ensayos congruentes ni en los incongruentes. Por el contrario, un mayor tiempo dedicado a la actividad física vigorosa que duraron ≥30 s donde se predijo una latencia P3 más corta en todas las periodos y congruencias de flanqueadores (todos β ≤ –0,24, todos p ≤ 0,04). Las asociaciones entre una latencia P3 más corta y el tiempo dedicado a sesiones de actividad física de moderada a vigorosa que duraron ≥30 s fueron menos consistentes y se limitaron en gran medida a ensayos congruentes (congruente: β (–0,31, –0,34)). No se observaron asociaciones significativas tras la corrección de la tasa de descubrimiento falso. El patrón de asociaciones no corregidas se alinea con la literatura sobre actividad-respuesta y sugiere que breves episodios de actividad física vigorosa pueden producir los mayores beneficios para la velocidad de procesamiento cognitivo en los preadolescentes. Se necesitan estudios futuros que utilicen medidas de la estructura y función del cerebro para comprender los mecanismos que vinculan la actividad física vigorosa con la función neurofuncional en los niños con síndrome de Down.

La danza es una actividad físico-deportiva y artística idónea para el desarrollo integral del alumnado y puede considerarse como promotora de inclusión. Por ello, el objetivo de este estudio fue realizar una revisión narrativa relacionada con los beneficios que aporta la danza en el alumnado con Síndrome de Down (SD) en la etapa de educación infantil. Para realizar la búsqueda de los documentos, se emplearon las palabras clave: “Child Education”, “Dance” y “Down Syndrome”. Los manuscritos fueron buscados en las bases de datos Web of Science, Scopus, SPORTDiscus y PubMed, hasta enero de 2023. Para ajustar la búsqueda al objeto de estudio, se estableció una serie de criterios de inclusión: i) cualquier tipo de documento científico relacionado con la temática; ii) manuscritos que indiquen, en el cuerpo del texto, al menos una descripción de los alumnos con SD de una longitud mínima de 50 palabras; iii) documentos realizados en inglés, español y/o portugués; y, iv) manuscritos que permitan obtener el texto completo; se obtuvo un total de 9 documentos. Los resultados mostraron una escasez de documentos en relación con el ámbito de estudio, como consecuencia de ser una temática muy específica. Asimismo, los manuscritos incluidos en esta revisión reportan que los beneficios que podrían obtenerse de la danza para el alumnado con SD están relacionados con la conciencia y el control postural, la mejora de aspectos sociales y mejoras a nivel cognitivo y emocional, así como el disfrute. Por ello, se recomienda ampliar el número de investigaciones futuras relacionadas con la danza en el sistema educativo y, concretamente, en la etapa de educación infantil, debido a los múltiples beneficios que aporta al alumnado con discapacidad.

El propósito de este artículo es analizar definiciones y variables asociadas a habilidades sociales en educandos con síndrome de Down. Se emplea la revisión bibliográfica a partir de una estrategia de búsqueda, basada en selección de fuentes localizadas en las bases de datos Google Académico, ResearchGate, SciELO, Redalyc y Dialnet, contentivas de las palabras claves: habilidades sociales y síndrome de Down. Se establecieron como criterios de inclusión: fecha de publicación, tipo de publicación y resultados de interés. Se constata escasa existencia de tesis de doctorado y artículos científicos de investigación y revisión correspondiente a los últimos diez años. Prevalecen las definiciones retomadas de investigaciones más generales, lo que obstaculiza el análisis de los componentes y relaciones esenciales del desarrollo de habilidades sociales en educandos con síndrome de Down. Se refleja poco consenso en el manejo de las variables en relación con las categorías desarrollo psicológico y edad cronológica.

O estudo teve como objetivo conhecer as experiências de mães e médicos em relação ao comunicado do diagnóstico da síndrome de Down (SD). Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória e transversal, com delineamento qualitativo. Participaram 9 mães e 7 médicos. Foram realizadas 16 entrevistas semiestruturadas individuais. Os dados foram transcritos e submetidos à análise de conteúdo temática. Constatou-se que, para mães e médicos, é uma experiência complexa e difícil, permeada por sentimentos ambivalentes. Nas mães, predominam a tristeza, medo e angústia. A maioria delas sentiram-se insatisfeitas na maneira como receberam o diagnóstico, isso foi atribuído por elas e pelos médicos à falta de preparo durante a formação profissional. Conclui-se que algumas sugestões podem nortear a comunicação do diagnóstico, no intuito de favorecer a elaboração do mesmo, a saber: respeitar o tempo para a mãe observar e conhecer o bebê antes de receber o diagnóstico, comunicar a mãe com sensibilidade e empatia, preferencialmente na presença do outro genitor e de um psicólogo, procurar dar ênfase aos aspectos positivos da saúde do bebê.

Los juegos deportivos son una de las mejores formas de realizar actividad física para personas con discapacidad intelectual y síndrome de Down. Esta revisión sistemática de la literatura actual tiene como objetivo identificar y resumir datos relevantes sobre las habilidades motoras y aclarar si existen efectos positivos de los programas deportivos en juegos de habilidades motoras en niños, adolescentes y jóvenes con discapacidad intelectual y síndrome de Down. La revisión sistemática de los artículos se realizó siguiendo las pautas metodológicas. Se investigaron las siguientes bases de datos electrónicas: PubMed, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect y ERIC en el 2003. La batería de pruebas de baloncesto se puede utilizar para mejorar y monitorear el entrenamiento de baloncesto. Los jugadores de baloncesto con niveles más bajos de discapacidad intelectual obtuvieron mejores resultados, especialmente aquellos con discapacidad de grados II y III. El fútbol tiene un impacto positivo en la coordinación, y las diferencias entre los resultados de las pruebas de salto vertical con y sin movimiento del brazo, que puede verse indirectamente como un factor de coordinación, fueron estadísticamente significativas. El baloncesto se recomienda como un programa de rehabilitación eficaz y práctico para niños, adolescentes y jóvenes con discapacidad intelectual y síndrome de Down. El fútbol también es una actividad interesante y útil para personas con discapacidad intelectual.

El objetivo del presente artículo es diseñar un instrumento de evaluación de las habilidades motrices básicas de los niños con Síndrome de Down (SD). Para poder construir esta herramienta de medición se comenzó conociendo las características patológicas de esta población, para así direccionar de manera precisa, concisa y real cada uno de los indicadores a evaluar. Además, se tomó en cuenta que cada test tuviese colores llamativos debido a que es un estímulo en la enseñanza y aprendizaje de los alumnos con SD. Este instrumento de evaluación cuenta con 6 pruebas, que abarcan pruebas de caminar, saltar, rodar, reptar, lanzar y agarrar. En este artículo se describe cada una de las pruebas con sus respectivos indicadores de medición. Una vez diseñada esta herramienta, se evaluó con la misma a 5 niños con SD y a otros 5 sin esta patología, pero de la misma edad, para realizar una correlación de los resultados, y se concluyó que esta herramienta es adecuada para evaluar las habilidades motrices básicas en los niños con SD.

Este estudio tuvo como objetivo comprender la forma como el profesional de Educación Física moviliza estrategias metodológicas para desarrollar su accionar docente con niños con síndrome de Down en la ciudad de Paysandú-Uruguay. Tratase de una investigación descriptiva con un abordaje teórico-metodológico cualitativo. Las informaciones producidas fueron analizadas mediante un proceso interpretativo de recurrencias en las respuestas de los colaboradores estableciendo relaciones entre el material empírico, lo teórico-conceptual y la construcción del análisis. El resultado fue condensado en tres categorías: el “perfil”, la “planificación”, y finalmente, las “herramientas metodológicas”; aspectos fundamentales para que el docente pueda accionar su labor pedagógica con el correspondiente grupo poblacional. Las herramientas metodológicas a nuestro parecer son las más relevantes para trabajar con niños con Síndrome de Down ya que son recursos, formas de trabajo y métodos puntuales que se utilizan para llevar a cabo la planificación en el grupo de sujetos a ser integrados.

RESUMO O objetivo deste artigo foi analisar as concepções de mães e filhos em relação à autonomia de jovens com Síndrome de Down. Nesse sentido, participaram deste estudo 20 mães e 20 jovens com Síndrome de Down. Foi realizado um estudo qualitativo, por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas, que foram gravadas, transcritas e posteriormente analisadas. Os resultados do estudo mostraram que a perspectiva das mães com relação à autonomia diz respeito à realização das atividades cotidianas em casa, mas, ao sair desse ambiente, eles demonstram medo, não permitindo que os filhos ampliem essa autonomia para outros ambientes. Com relação ao jovem com Síndrome de Down, é possível perceber que, mesmo não entendendo a sua condição genética e o que venha a ser de fato autonomia, eles demonstram o desejo de terem uma vida como qualquer outro jovem, que estuda, namora, trabalha, sai de casa sozinho. Assim sendo, é preciso a implementação de programas voltados à capacitação de profissionais, família e jovens com SD no auxílio à autonomia.

Se presentan una propuesta de acciones de preparación a los mismos que permitieron lograr mayor incidencia en la estimulación temprana de la actividad cognoscitiva en niños con síndrome de Down en la primera infancia desde la educación ambiental.

The objective was to develop an Educational Technology on healthy eating for children with Down Syndrome. Methodological study carried out in three stages, starting with the narrative review of the literature and the situational diagnosis in theAPAE-Belém, with pparents or guardians of children with DS when participating in an interview. As a result, after the analysis procedure and interpretation of the findings, three categories were identified: healthy eating, children's eating and educational technology about healthy eating. In the second stage, pre-production took place and in the third stage, the final production of the board game prototype entitled "MI dish it, father of mare". As the study progressed, it was concluded that the production of TEs that are sensitive to the reality of these individuals enables the innovation of devices converging with their needs and demands,generating a positive effect in terms of knowledge related to healthy eating and health education. This research, presented in the article, aimed to investigate aspects of knowledge necessary for teaching Mathematics to students with Down syndrome elicited within the formative context of a community of teachers. Adopting a qualitative, intervention-research approach, a group of seven teachers specializing in Mathematics education for students with Down syndrome was formed. These educators worked in both special education schools and mainstream schools. The group interacted synchronously and asynchronously, as the training occurred before and after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were collected using audio recordings, field diary notes by the researcher, and records of interactions in a WhatsApp group. Analysis of the produced information was guided by three emerging aspects from the data set: a) Down syndrome, potentials, and challenges related to Mathematics; b) knowledge of the concept (number) for teaching and learning in students with Down syndrome; and c) curriculum adaptation and the use of multisensory materials. In conclusion, formative actions based on a community of teachers allow for a flexible work plan, leading the teacher to consider the specific difficulties, skills, and motivations of students with Down syndrome in Mathematics education. This approach values the diverse perspectives of teachers and the importance of sharing their knowledge and experiences, addressing the emerging needs of the group, and articulating their interests and practices. - Abstract
Several orthopedic and orthognathic treatments are proposed in the treatment of children with Down syndrome; since most of these patients exhibit common symptoms related to alterations in the face and dentition, it is possible to achieve positive outcomes through dental approaches using intraoral appliances and plates in conjunction with surgical interventions. The aim of this study was to analyze the prevalence of orthognathic problems and malocclusions in children with Down syndrome, describe the alterations in the oromaxillofacial region associated with this syndrome, and conduct a descriptive and qualitative literature review, including articles published in Portuguese and English from 2013 to 2023. The main alterations found in children with Down syndrome included Angle class III malocclusion, facial and dental bone alterations, such as imperfect amelogenesis, hypodontia, microdontia, and conical teeth, as well as macroglossia, which interferes with overall oral dynamics. Furthermore, the importance of early and individualized diagnosis for the treatment of these patients was highlighted. Conclusion: Since these alterations vary from one patient to another, the dentist needs to create an individualized treatment plan tailored to each child's specific needs, aiming to improve their quality of life. - Abstract
Down syndrome (DS) is the most common autosomal aneuploidy and the leading cause of intellectual disability of genetic origin worldwide. It is identified as a syndrome in which the variability of its clinical manifestations and the severity of its phenotype have a multifactorial origin. Worldwide prevalence ranges between 1 per 700 live births and several factors that may be involved in the origin of DS have been proposed. Our objective was to describe updates regarding risk factors in the cytogenetic origin or cause of DS. We conducted a narrative review study in which a literature search was carried out from January to June 2022 in databases such as PubMed, EBSCO, Medigraphic, ClinicalKey, and meta-search engines such as Elsevier and Evidence Alerts. Only articles published in the last 10 years in English and Spanish were included. The search terms used were: Down syndrome, risk factors, prevention. Although DS is a very common chromosomal pathology worldwide, there is no single risk factor at the origin of meiotic or mitotic nondisjunction of chromosome 21, but rather each of the associated risk factors contributes to a greater or lesser degree to a cytogenetic predisposition in the etiology of trisomy 21. During the review it was identified that the main established risk factor associated with DS is still advanced maternal age (≥ 35 years). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study's objective was to replicate the study by Hayashi et al. (2013) and assess the emergence of letter naming after teaching auditory-visual matching online during the Covid-19 pandemic. Four students aged five to ten, both genders, participated: three with Down syndrome and one with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Data were collected individually through the Zoom platform; specific software was used to program and record the answers. The teaching session consisted of the children selecting, on a computer screen, among written letters presented in a set, the one that corresponded to the letter name dictated. Next, the children were supposed to name the letters during the assessment. A multiple probe design between letter sets was adopted. The results showed that all four participants increased the number of letters named correctly for most sets after attending the teaching sessions. Hence, this teaching procedure is a potential alternative to establish letter recognition and naming among children eligible for special education, complementing regular school. Introduction: Down syndrome is the most common genetic cause of intellectual disability, and the use of augmented reality can be improving the cognitive, motor, and literacy skills of this population. Objective: to compare statistical differences in learning between individuals with Down syndrome and individuals with typical development using augmented reality games. Methods: we compared the reaction time before and after the virtual reality tasks, in addition to the performance in these tasks, which consisted of correctly identifying numbers and letters in 46 people with Down syndrome and 46 controls with typical development. Results: our results indicate that the total points for the typical development group were higher (M = 13.0 and 11.9) when compared to the Down syndrome group (M = 6.6 and 4.6) for letters of the alphabet and numbers, respectively. Furthermore, the results indicated that participants in both groups were more accurate in identifying alphabetic symbols when compared to numerical symbols, and both groups were sensitive to the number of symbols presented in each phase. The down syndrome group had a lower performance when compared to the typical development group. Conclusion: despite the need for further studies, our results support the outcome that there is clinical utility of an intervention based on virtual reality tasks for people with Down syndrome. The present text is constituted with an exploratory research with case study, about the theme of storytelling in Early Childhood Education involving the telling teacher and a child with Down Syndrome of the infant IV in time of Pandemic. Through Children’s Literature, the subject has contact with other cultures, travels without leaving the classroom, expands their knowledge and opens cognitive possibilities. It allows children to socialize around a story, the fantastic world of make-believe. Thus, this work sought theoretical subsidies of the Historical-Cultural Theory and Dialogism to address the subject, observing the contributions of storytelling to the integral development of children with Down Syndrome. It also covers the concept of Children’s Literature, how it evolved, how discursive engagement and participation in storytelling are important for children, since it has a dialogical and discursive character, expanding oral language and enabling integral, meaningful and formative learning for children. Se presenta un caso de leishmaniasis selvática cutánea diseminada con manifestación extensa en una paciente pediátrica con síndrome de Down. El caso se confirmó a través de estudios parasitológicos e inmunológicos, mientras que la identificación se realizó mediante la técnica de reacción en cadena de la polimerasa-polimorfismos de longitud de fragmentos de restricción (PCR-RFLP, por sus siglas en inglés), determinándose la especie como Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis. La manifestación clínica agresiva y prolongada con poca respuesta a estibogluconato y anfotericina desoxicolato pueden deberse al déficit inmunológico que se presenta como parte del síndrome de Down. La paciente eventualmente recibió tratamiento con anfotericina B liposomal y al término de la terapia, mostró mejoría clínica de las lesiones. El presente reporte ilustra los desafíos tanto de diagnóstico como tratamiento de leishmaniasis cutánea en pacientes pediátricos inmunosuprimidos, especialmente en un entorno de difícil acceso social, económico y geográfico, a los servicios de salud. Se recomienda considerar a la leishmaniasis en el diagnóstico diferencial cuando se atienda ulceras crónicas dermatológicas atípicas; así como tener en cuenta el uso de anfotericina liposomal en pacientes inmunocomprometidos.

En el municipio de Pitalito-Huila (Colombia) se evidencia un alto grado de desconocimiento sobre la diversidad funcional cognitiva, generando una problemática social que levanta barreras e impide la inclusión de personas en esta condición. Es así que, el problema de inclusión laboral para personas con diversidad funcional surge del desconocimiento de esta condición, de la percepción errada sobre sus capacidades, de las deficiencias educativas en torno a las competencias laborales y de la falta de intervención gubernamental en la divulgación de las políticas públicas de inclusión. Finalmente, se proponen estrategias bajo el modelo de innovación de la triple hélice para lograr efectividad en los procesos inclusivos de inserción social, educativa y laboral.

50. Terapia miofuncional orofacial associada ao uso da placa palatina de memória em crianças com Trissomia do 21: estudo de casos

RESUMO Indivíduos com Trissomia do 21 podem apresentar hipotonia muscular dos órgãos fonoarticulatórios, língua alargada, posicionada no assoalho oral e protrusa e ausência de selamento labial. A placa palatina de memória é um dispositivo intraoral que, associado à terapia miofuncional, visa à melhora da postura habitual dos lábios e da língua dessas crianças. O objetivo deste trabalho foi apresentar os casos de quatro crianças com Trissomia do 21, do sexo masculino, com média de idade de 6,7 e desvio-padrão de 7,8 meses, que fizeram uso da placa palatina de memória de forma associada à terapia miofuncional. As crianças utilizaram a placa por seis meses, realizaram exercícios baseados na terapia de regulação orofacial e receberam orientações quanto à alimentação e retirada de hábitos orais deletérios. Na primeira sessão e ao final do tratamento, foi realizada a gravação de 5 minutos da face de cada criança em repouso e a análise da postura habitual de língua e de lábios foi realizada por dois pesquisadores independentes. Observou-se maior melhora da postura de língua e de lábios dos participantes que iniciaram o tratamento mais precocemente e que apresentavam as alterações posturais mais severas.
