Abstract

We conducted a psychometric synthesis of the internal consistency reliability and internal structure of scores on the English versions of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) in publications between 2012 and 2022. Results supported acceptable-to-strong reliability and validity evidence of scores among a number of samples.

Abstract

Depressive and anxiety disorders are two of the most widespread mental health diagnoses faced by U.S. adults, with close to 8.4% of the population (approXimately 21 million) living with a [...], Depressive and anxiety disorders are two common presenting concerns among adults in the United States who seek mental health counseling services. Mental health counselors need screening tools with validated scores for detecting their clients' symptoms of depression and anxiety. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) are popular screening tools for measuring symptoms of depression and anxiety, respectively. However, the literature is lacking temporally valid research on these popular screening tools, which is concerning, as the psychometric properties of instrumentation can vary substantially over time. We tested the psychometric properties of the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 with a national stratified random sample (N = 1,812) of adults in the United States. The results were promising and begin to address the temporal validity gap in the extant literature regarding the psychometric properties of GAD-7 and PHQ-9. Collectively, findings supported the utility of the GAD-7 and PHQ-9 for enhancing the practice of mental health counselors.

Abstract

Pitx1 gene-deleted mice have reciprocal abnormalities of one dorsal and two ventral anterior pituitary cell types. The abnormalities likely are based on its synergistic functions with other transcription factors and defects in the derivatives of the first brachial arch. The derivatives would includ cleft palate, which would suggest a proliferative defect analogous to that seen in the hindlimb.

Abstract

The bicoid-related homeodomain transcription factor Pitx2 could be the regulatory force behind the gene network responsible for the morphological events that lead to left-right asymmetries in vertebrates. Pitx2 could interpret and later execute the left-right developmental program dictated by upstream signalling molecules. Pitx2 expression is initiated at the onset of organogenesis and maintained throughout embryogenesis. Its left-right instructive role is required both for the heart and for correct situs of the gut and body rotation.

Abstract

A tissue-specific paired-like homeodomain transcription factor, Prophet of Pit-1 (Prop-1), enables the positional cloning of a gene responsible for a heritable form of murine pituitary-dependent Ames dwarfism. A failure in the determination of the Pit-1 lineage required for the production of growth hormone, prolactin and thyroid stimulating hormone results in dysmorphogenesis and inactivation of the Pit-1 gene expression. The cascade of tissue-specific regulators accounts for the determination and differentiation of cell lineages in pituitary organogenesis.

The class IV POU-domain transcription factors, Brn-3.1 and Brn-3.2, have a specific spatio-temporal pattern of expression and regulate the final differentiation of sensorineural cells during neural development. Deletion of the Brn-3.1 gene causes loss of hair cells in the organ of Corti and sensory epithelia maculae and cristae. There is neuronal degeneration in the vestibular ganglion. Mice homozygous for deletion of the Brn-3.2 coding region have 60-70% fewer retinal ganglion cells than wild-type mice. The Brn-3.2 mutants behave normally while the Brn-3.1 mutants have defective balance.

Thyroid-hormone and retinoic-acid receptors, attached to the retinoid-X receptor as heterodimers to cognate DNA positions, mediate ligand-independent transcriptional repression by effecting both positive and negative gene expression when their ligands are present or absent. A 270 K protein, named the nuclear receptor co-repressor, mediates ligand-independent transcriptional repression similar to the processes in yeast and Drosophila.
