Abstract

Abstract: For the first time, the dimensional and weight characteristics of the bivalve mollusk Anadara kagoshimensis(Tokunaga, 1906), an alien species in the Sea of Azov, were examined. The relationships between allometric parameters of the mollusk (dimensions and weight) were approximated by power functions. The maximum coefficient of determination was noted for the power-law correlation between shell width and total weight of Anadara; the minimum one was noted for the correlation between its shell height and total weight. Also, the maximum coefficient of determination was noted for the power-law correlation between shell length and wet weight of Anadarasoft tissues; the minimum one was noted for the correlation between its shell width and wet weight of soft tissues. The ratio between dry and wet weight of soft tissues was 0.16. A comparison of different Anadarahabitats in the Black Sea, Sea of Azov, and Aegean Sea showed that cage farming of these mollusks in moderately saline waters ensures the most favorable conditions for their maximum growth.

Abstract

Seasonal dynamics of the species composition, numbers, and biomass of phytoplankton occurring in sedimentation traps exposed from June 1995 till May 1996 at a depth of 4.5 m on the bottom of Kazachya Bay of the Black Sea are considered. The duration of exposure was 15-20 days. The contents of traps were studied separately in two fractions: in the suspension of bottom sediments and in the near-bottom layer of water. A total of 131 taxa of microalgae belonging to Bacillariophyta (95 taxa), Dinophyta (25), Chrysophyta (8), Cryptophyta (2), and Cynophyta (1) were found during the period of investigations. In this case, 63 taxa were found in the near-bottom layer of water, 89 taxa in the suspension of bottom sediments, and 21 taxa in both fractions. Bacillariophyta (about 73 %) prevailed in terms of the number of their species in bottom sediments, whereas Dinophyta (19 %) dominated in water column. During the process of sedimentation, more than 40 % of the total number of species remained in water column, whereas about 60 % of their species were registered in bottom sediments. Abstract

Influence of Rapamid, new biological active preparation of natural origin with antioxidant properties, on oxidation metabolism in mice with different radiosensitivity under single total irradiated, doze 1.0 Gy, was investigated. The one usage course of Rapamid before irradiation, according to oxide metabolism values, exert considerable radioprotective efficacy upon radiosensitive C3H mice, whereas on radioresistant mice (line CBA) such course result in increasing of free radicals processes. The authors pay attention to necessity of individual approach when drugs with antioxidant properties are used.
