Abstract

A study of the properties of polycrystalline fluorite-type NaY 1-x-yYb xEr yF 4 solid solutions demonstrated that NaY 0.87Yb 0.10Er 0.03F 4 and NaY 0.885Yb 0.1Er 0.015F 4 samples produced up-conversion luminescence with 3.35% and 3.62% quantum yields, which were higher than quantum yields of the other NaY 1-x-yYb xEr yF 4 samples. NaY 1-x-yYb xEr yF 4 specimens were prepared by co-precipitation from aqueous solutions by drop-wise addition of rare earth nitrate solutions to aqueous sodium fluoride.

40. Efficacy and tolerability of felodipine based antihypertensive therapy in hospitalized patients with hypertension

Abstract

Aim. To compare efficacy and tolerability of felodipine based antihypertensive therapy with those of standard hospital treatment of hypertension. Material. Inhospital patients were randomized 1:2 to standard antihypertensive therapy or to therapy which included felodipine (n=50 and 100, 36 and 35% men, mean age 66.0 +/- 8.4 and 64.3 +/- 8.1 years, initial blood pressure 162.4 +/- 9.3/99.3 +/- 6.4 and 163.2 +/- 10.3/98.2 +/- 6.5 mm Hg, respectively). Felodipine was used: (1) as first drug with subsequent addition of other drugs as required; (2) after cessation of previously ineffective therapy; (3) in cases of intolerance to previous therapy, (4) as supplementation to previously insufficiently effective therapy. Results. At discharge in felodipine group 6, 25, 29 and 40% of patients received mono- (felodipine 10 mg/day), 2, 3 and 4 component therapy, respectively. in standard treatment group all patients received combination therapy with 3 (48%) or 4 (52%) drugs. Felodipine group compared with group of standard therapy was characterized by less frequent correction of anti hypertensive therapy (0.8+/-0.6 and 2.2 +/- 0.9, p<0.05), smaller number of drugs used (3.03 +/- 0.95 and 3.52 +/- 0.5. p<0.01), more frequently achievement of target blood pressure level (88 and 64%. p=0.0075), less pronounced difference between morning and evening self-measured blood pressure. Conclusion. The use of felodipine in hospitalized patients with hypertension allowed achieving target blood pressure with fewer drugs. Felodipine was safe and well tolerated.

Abstract

The impact of holmium fibre laser radiation on the samples of biologic tissues (dura mater of spinal cord and adipose tissue with interlayers of muscle) is studied. The experimental results are evaluated by the size of carbonisation and coagulation necrosis zones. The experiment shows that in the case of irradiation of the spinal cord dura mater samples the size of carbonisation and coagulation necrosis zones is insignificant. In the adipose tissue the carbonisation zone is also insignificant, but the region of cellular structure disturbance is large. In the muscle tissue the situation is opposite. The cw laser operation provides clinically acceptable degree of destruction in tissue samples with a minimal carbonisation zone.

42. Fusion of blastomeres in mouse embryos under the action of femtosecond laser radiation. Efficiency of blastocyst formation and embryo development

Abstract

Using the method of femtosecond laser surgery we study the fusion of two-cell mouse embryos under the action of tightly focused femtosecond laser radiation with the fusion efficiency reaching 60 %. The detailed statistical analysis of the efficiency of blastomere fusion and development of the embryo up to the blastocyst stage after exposure of the embryos from different mice to a femtosecond pulse is presented. It is shown that the efficiency of blastocyst formation essentially depends on the biological characteristics of the embryo, namely, the strain and age of the donor mouse. The possibility of obtaining hexaploid embryonal cells using the methods of femtosecond laser surgery is demonstrated.
