Abstract Lithium metal solid‐state battery is the first choice of batteries for electromobiles and consumer electronic products because of the specific capacity of 3860 mAh g−1 and high electrochemical potential (−3.04 V) of Li metal. Flexible polymer solid electrolytes have become the optimal solution to produce high energy density lithium batteries with arbitrary size and shape. In this work, we introduce a halide perovskite, CsSnI3, into the polyethylene oxide/lithium bis‐(trifluoromethanesuphone)imide (PEO–LiTFSI) polymer matrix. The CsSnI3 could form a LixSn alloy with Li, leading to homogenization of the electric field and Li+‐flux at the interface, Sn atom also bonds with the TFSI− anion to provide more dissociated Li+. Besides that, the I atom could interact with Li to form an electronic insulation with a strong blocking effect on electron tunneling. As a proof of concept, the synergy mechanism of the PEO–LiTFSI–CsSnI3 electrolyte improves the stable cycle life of the symmetric battery to more than 500 h, and the Li+ conductivity raised to 6.1 × 10−4 S cm−1 at 60°C. The application of the “zwitter ions analog” halide perovskite in PEO–LiTFSI provides a new choice among various methods to improve the electrochemical performance of polymer solid‐state batteries.

Selenium has high theoretical volumetric capacity of 3253 mAh cm−3 and acceptable electronic conductivity of 1 × 10−5 S m−1, which is considered as a potential alternative to sulfur cathode for all-solid-state rechargeable batteries with high energy density. However, the development of all-solid-state Li–Se batteries (ASSLSBs) are hindered by sluggish kinetics and poor cycling life. In this work, trigonal Se nanocrystallines are homogenously distributed in the interspace and on the surface of MXene layers (denoted as Se@MXene composite) by a novel melt-diffusion method. ASSLSBs based on this Se@MXene composite cathode exhibit large specific capacity of 632 mAh g−1 at 0.05 A g−1, high-rate capability over 4 A g−1, and excellent cycling stability over 300 cycles at 1 A g−1. The ex-situ analytical techniques demonstrate that the excellent electrochemical performance of Se@MXene cathode largely arises from structural stability with the assistance of conductive MXene and reversible redox behavior between Li2Se and Se during the repeating charge/discharge process. Our study points out the potential of material design of Se cathode based on conducting 2D materials with good electrochemical behavior, which may accelerate the practicability of ASSLSBs.

Abstract. Background:. The HELIOS stent is a sirolimus-eluting stent with a biodegradable polymer and titanium oxide film as the tie-layer. The study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of HELIOS stent in a real-world setting. Methods:. The HELIOS registry is a prospective, multicenter, cohort study conducted at 38 centers across China between November 2018 and December 2019. A total of 3060 consecutive patients were enrolled after application of minimal inclusion and exclusion criteria. The primary endpoint was target lesion failure (TLF), defined as a composite of cardiac death, non-fatal target vessel myocardial infarction (MI), and clinically indicated target lesion revascularization (TLR) at 1-year follow-up. Kaplan–Meier methods were used to estimate the cumulative incidence of clinical events and construct survival curves. Results:. A total of 2998 (98.0%) patients completed the 1-year follow-up. The 1-year incidence of TLF was 3.10% (94/2998, 95% closed interval: 2.54–3.78%). The rates of cardiac death, non-fatal target vessel MI and clinically indicated TLR were 2.33% (70/2998), 0.20% (6/2998), and 0.70% (21/2998), respectively. The rate of stent thrombosis was 0.33% (10/2998). Age ≥60 years, diabetes mellitus, family history of coronary artery disease, acute myocardial infarction at admission, and device success were independent predictors of TLF at 1 year. Conclusion:. The 1-year incidence rates of TLF and stent thrombosis were 3.10% and 0.33%, respectively, in patients treated with HELIOS stents. Our results provide clinical evidence for interventional cardiologists and policymakers to evaluate HELIOS stent. Clinical trial registration:. ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03916432

Silicon (Si) anodes with extremely high theoretical capacities are considered indispensable for next-generation high-energy lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, several intractable problems, including pulverization, poor electrical contact, and continuous side reactions caused by the large volume change of Si during lithiation/delithiation, lead to a short cycle life and poor rate capability, thus hindering the commercial use of Si anodes in LIBs. Two-dimensional (2D) Si with a unique graphene-like structure has a short ion diffusion pathway, small volume change during lithiation, and efficient redox site utilization, making it more promising than bulk Si or Si with other versatile structures for use in LIBs. Theoretical analysis demonstrated that the low energy barrier on the surface of 2D Si accelerates the transport of Li+. However, the issues surrounding 2D Si, including the tedious and user-unfriendly synthesis, ease of restacking, and atmospheric sensitivity, limit its practical applications, which are discussed in this review. Furthermore, possible solutions to these remaining challenges and new directions are provided, with the aim of designing practical and high-performance 2D Si anodes for next-generation LIBs.

Paravalvular leak (PVL) is a shortcoming that can erode the clinical benefits of transcatheter valve replacement (TAVR) and therefore a readily applicable method (aortography) to quantitate PVL objectively and accurately in the interventional suite is appealing to all operators. The ratio between the areas of the time-density curves in the aorta and left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT-AR) defines the regurgitation fraction (RF). This technique has been validated in a mock circulation; a single injection in diastole was further tested in porcine and ovine models. In the clinical setting, LVOT-AR was compared with trans-thoracic and trans-oesophageal echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. LVOT-AR > 17% discriminates mild from moderate aortic regurgitation on echocardiography and confers a poor prognosis in multiple registries, and justifies balloon post-dilatation. The LVOT-AR differentiates the individual performances of many old and novel devices and is being used in ongoing randomized trials and registries.

Abstract Achieving scalable synthesis of nanoscale transition‐metal carbides (TMCs), regarded as substitutes for platinum‐group noble metals, remains an ongoing challenge. Herein, a 100‐g scale synthesis of single‐phased cobalt carbide (Co2C) through carburization of Co‐based Prussian Blue Analog (Co‐PBA) is reported in CO2/H2 atmosphere under mild conditions (230 °C, ambient pressure). Textural property investigations indicate a successful preparation of orthorhombic‐phased Co2C nanomaterials with Pt‐group–like electronic properties. As a demonstration, Co2C achieves landmark photo‐assisted thermal catalytic CO2 conversion rates with photo‐switched product selectivity, which far exceeds the representative Pt‐group‐metal–based catalysts. This impressive result is attributed to the excellent activation of reactants, colorific light absorption, and photo‐to‐thermal conversion capacities. In addition to CO2 hydrogenation, the versatile Co2C materials show huge prospects in antibacterial therapy, interfacial water evaporation, electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction, and battery technologies. This study paves the way toward unlocking the potential of multi‐functional Co2C nanomaterials.

Abstract. Background:. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is an underdiagnosed genetic heart disease worldwide. The management and prognosis of obstructive HCM (HOCM) and non-obstructive HCM (HNCM) are quite different, but it also remains challenging to discriminate these two subtypes. HCM is characterized by dysmetabolism, and myocardial amino acid (AA) metabolism is robustly changed. The present study aimed to delineate plasma AA and derivatives profiles, and identify potential biomarkers for HCM. Methods:. Plasma samples from 166 participants, including 57 cases of HOCM, 52 cases of HNCM, and 57 normal controls (NCs), who first visited the International Cooperation Center for HCM, Xijing Hospital between December 2019 and September 2020, were collected and analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry based on targeted AA metabolomics. Three separate classification algorithms, including random forest, support vector machine, and logistic regression, were applied for the identification of specific AA and derivatives compositions for HCM and the development of screening models to discriminate HCM from NC as well as HOCM from HNCM. Results:. The univariate analysis showed that the serine, glycine, proline, citrulline, glutamine, cystine, creatinine, cysteine, choline, and aminoadipic acid levels in the HCM group were significantly different from those in the NC group. Four AAs and derivatives (Panel A; proline, glycine, cysteine, and choline) were screened out by multiple feature selection algorithms for discriminating HCM patients from NCs. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis in Panel A yielded an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.83 (0.75–0.91) in the training set and 0.79 (0.65–0.94) in the validation set. Moreover, among 10 AAs and derivatives (arginine, phenylalanine, tyrosine, proline, alanine, asparagine, creatine, tryptophan, ornithine, and choline) with statistical significance between HOCM and HNCM, 3 AAs (Panel B; arginine, proline, and ornithine) were selected to differentiate the two subgroups. The AUC values in the training and validation sets for Panel B were 0.83 (0.74–0.93) and 0.82 (0.66–0.98), respectively. Conclusions:. The plasma AA and derivatives profiles were distinct between the HCM and NC groups. Based on the differential profiles, the two established screening models have potential value in assisting HCM screening and identifying whether it is obstructive.

Balloon rupture during transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a rare but serious complication. Here, we present two cases of balloon rupture in patients with severe aortic stenosis and type 0 bicuspid aortic valves. Three-dimensional models based on pre-procedure cardiac CT angiography were used to investigate these cases post hoc. The models revealed asymmetrical distribution of calcifications with sharply spiked features in the bicuspid aortic valves. The narrow calcified orifices resulted in uneven force distribution on the expanded balloon, thus leading to balloon rupture. We additionally review the classification and causes of balloon rupture, summarize methods for avoiding complications, and describe treatment options. Accurate pre-procedural anatomy evaluation and computer modeling are crucial for planning and managing TAVR procedures. Further investigation through computer simulation is necessary to determine the appropriate balloon size and inflation locations, to provide a reference for pre-procedural preparation.

Abstract Objectives To evaluate the 3-year clinical outcomes of a polymer-free sirolimus-eluting, Nano plus stent for the treatment of coronary artery disease in the NANO multicenter Registry. Background The long-term clinical data evaluating the safety and efficacy of the novel polymer-free sirolimus-eluting Nano plus stent (Lepu Medical, Beijing, China) is limited. Methods The NANO all-comers Registry trial was a prospective, multicenter clinical registry conducted in 26 centers in China between August 2016 and January 2017. A total of 2481 consecutive patients were exclusively treated with the Nano plus stent. The primary clinical endpoint, target lesion failure (TLF, defined as cardiac death, target vessel nonfatal myocardial infarction, and clinically driven target lesion revascularization [CD-TLR]), was analyzed at 3 years. Results At 3 years, 2295 patients (92.5%) were followed. The incidence of TLF was 6.8% (168/2481). The rate of cardiac death was 3.8% (94/2481), target vessel nonfatal myocardial infarction 0.7% (18/2481), and CD-TLR 2.9% (68/2481). The rate of definite/probable stent thrombosis was 0.5% (13/2481). Zinc hydroxyfluoride (ZnOHF) is a newly found resistive semiconductor used as a gas-sensing material with excellent selectivity to NO2 because of its unique energy band structure. In this paper, Al3+ doping and UV radiation were used to further improve the gas-sensing performance of ZnOHF. The optimized 0.5 at.% Al-ZnOHF sample exhibits improved sensitivity to 10 ppm NO2 at a lower temperature (100 °C) under UV assistance, as well as a short response/recovery time (35 s/96 s). The gas-sensing mechanism demonstrates that Al3+ doping increases electron concentration and promotes electron transfer of the nanorods by reducing the bandgap of ZnOHF, and the photogenerated electrons and holes with high activity under UV irradiation provide new reaction routes in the gas adsorption and desorption process, effectively promoting the gas-sensing process. The synergistic effect of Al3+ and UV radiation contribute to the enhanced performance of Al-ZnOHF.

BackgroundThe healing response of the Firehawk stent in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) remains unclear.AimWe compared the vascular healing of a biodegradable polymer sirolimus-eluting stent (Firehawk) vs. a durable polymer everolimus-eluting stent (Xience) at 6 months after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with STEMI.MethodsIn this prospective, multicenter, randomized, non-inferiority study, patients within 12 h of STEMI onset were randomized in a ratio of 1:1 to receive Firehawk or Xience stents. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) follow-up was performed 6 months after the index procedure and assessed frame by frame. The primary endpoint was the neointimal thickness (NIT) at 6 months evaluated by OCT. The safety endpoint was target lesion failure (TLF) at 12 months.ResultsThe Firehawk stent was non-inferior to the Xience stent in terms of the neointimal thickness (73.03 ± 33.30 μm vs. 78.96 ± 33.29 μm; absolute difference: −5.94 [one-sided 95% lower confidence bound: −23.09]; Pnon−inferiority < 0.001). No significant difference was observed between the Firehawk and Xience groups regarding the percentage of uncovered struts (0.55 [0.08, 1.32]% vs. 0.40 [0.21, 1.19]%, P = 0.804), the percentage of malapposed struts (0.17 [0.00, 1.52]% vs. 0.17 [0.00, 0.69]%, P = 0.662), and the healing score (1.56 [0.23, 5.74] vs. 2.12 [0.91, 3.81], P = 0.647). At 12 months, one patient in the Firehawk group experienced a clinically indicated target lesion revascularization. No other TLF events occurred in both groups. Independent risk factors of the NIT included body mass index, hyperlipidemia, B2/C lesions, thrombus G3–G5, thrombus aspiration, and postdilation pressure.ConclusionIn patients with STEMI, Firehawk was non-inferior to Xience in vascular healing at 6 months. Both stents exhibited nearly complete strut coverage, moderate neointimal formation, and minimal strut malapposition.Clinical Trial NumberNCT04150016.

Abstract Background Patients with both diabetes mellitus (DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are a subpopulation characterized by ultrahigh ischemic and bleeding risk after percutaneous coronary intervention. There are limited data on the impact of ticagrelor monotherapy among these patients. Methods In this post hoc analysis of the GLOBAL-LEADERS trial, the treatment effects of the experimental (one-month dual-antiplatelet therapy [DAPT] followed by 23-month ticagrelor monotherapy) versus the reference regimen (12-month DAPT followed by 12-month aspirin alone) were analyzed according to DM/CKD status. The primary endpoint was a composite endpoint of all-cause death or new Q-wave myocardial infarction at 2-years. The patient-oriented composite endpoint (POCE) was defined as the composite of all-cause death, any stroke, site-reported MI and any revascularization, whereas net adverse clinical events (NACE) combined POCE with BARC type 3 or 5 bleeding events. ObjectivesTo compare the quantitative angiographic aortic regurgitation (AR) of six self-expanding valves after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).BackgroundQuantitative videodensitometric aortography (LVOT-AR) is an accurate and reproducible tool for assessment of AR following TAVR.MethodsThis is a retrospective central core-lab analysis of 1,257 consecutive cine aortograms performed post-TAVR. The study included 107 final aortograms of consecutive patients who underwent TAVR with first-generation VitaFlow in four Chinese centers and 1,150 aortograms with five other transcatheter aortic valves (Evolut Pro, Evolut R, CoreValve, Venus A-Valve, and Acurate Neo). LVOT-AR analyses of these five valves were retrieved from a previously published pooled database.ResultsAmong 172 aortograms of patients treated with VitaFlow, 107 final aortograms (62.2%) were analyzable by LVOT-AR. In this first in man eight cases necessitated a procedural valve in valve due to inappropriate TAVR positioning and severe aortic paravalvular regurgitation. In the VitaFlow group, the mean LVOT-AR of the intermediate aortograms was 7.3 ± 7.8% and the incidence of LVOT-AR >17% was 8.6%. The mean LVOT-AR of the final aortogram was 6.1 ± 6.4% in the VitaFlow group, followed by Evolut Pro (7.3 ± 6.5%), Evolut R (7.9 ± 7.4%), Venus A-valve (8.9 ± 10.0%), Acurate Neo (9.6 ± 9.2%), and lastly CoreValve (13.7 ± 10.7%) (analysis of variance p < 0.001). Post hoc 2-by-2 testing showed that CoreValve had significantly higher LVOT-AR compared with each of the other five THVs. No statistical difference in LVOT-AR was observed between VitaFlow, Evolut Pro, Evolut R, Acurate Neo, and Venus A-valves. The VitaFlow system had the lowest proportion of patients with LVOT-AR >17% (4.7%) (AR after the final aortograms), followed by Evolut Pro (5.3%), Evolut R (8.8%), Acurate Neo (11.3%), Venus A-valve (14.2%), and CoreValve (30.1%) (chi-square p < 0.001).ConclusionCompared to other commercially available self-expanding valves, VitaFlow seems to have a low degree of AR and a low proportion of patients with ≥moderate/severe AR as assessed by quantitative videodensitometric angiography. Once the learning phase is completed, comparisons of AR between different transcatheter heart valves should be attempted in a prospective randomized trial.

The performance of Li-O2 batteries is largely determined by the oxygen electrocatalytic reactions at the cathode. Here, the authors report cobalt single-atom catalysts anchored on carbon nanosheets. The design improves oxygen redox kinetics and enables good electrochemical performance.

Objectives: We aimed to compare the quantitative angiographic aortic regurgitation (AR) into the left ventricular out flow tract (LVOT-AR) of five different types of transcatheter self-expanding valves and to investigate the impact of the learning curve on post-TAVR AR. Background: Quantitative video densitometric aortography is an objective, accurate, and reproducible tool for assessment of AR following TAVR. Methods and results: This retrospective academic core-lab analysis, analyzed 1150 consecutive cine aortograms performed immediately post-TAVR. Quantitative angiographic AR of post-procedural aortography in 181 consecutive patients, who underwent TAVR with the Venus A-valve in a single Chinese center, were compared to the results of Evolut Pro, Evolut R, CoreValve, (Medtronic, Dublin, Ireland) and Acurate Neo (Boston Scientific, Massachusetts, US) transcatheter heart valves (THVs), from a previously published pooled database. Among the 181 aortograms of patients treated with the Venus A-Valve, 113 (62.4%) were analyzable for quantitative assessment of AR. The mean LVOT-AR was 8.9% ± 10.0% with 14.2% of patients having moderate or severe AR in the Venus A-valve group. No significant difference in mean LVOT-AR was observed between Evolut Pro, Evolut R, Acurate Neo, and Venus A-valve. The incidence of LVOT-AR >17%, which correlates with echocardiographic derived ≥ moderate AR, with the Evolut Pro was lower than with the Venus A-valve (5.3% vs. 14.2%, p = 0.034), but was not different from the Evolut R (5.3% vs. 8.8%, p = 0.612), or the Acurate Neo (5.3% vs. 11.3% p = 0.16) systems. A landmark analysis after recruitment of the first half of patients treated with the Venus A valve (N = 56), showed a significantly lower mean LVOT-AR in the second half of the series (11.3% ± 11.9% vs. 6.5% ± 7.1%, p = 0.011). The incidence of LVOT-AR >17% in the latest 57 cases was also numerically lower (7.0% vs. 21.4%, p = 0.857) and compared favorably with the best in class of the self-expanding valves. Conclusion: The Venus A-valve has comparable mean LVOT-AR to other self-expanding valves but has a higher rate of moderate or severe AR than the Evolut Pro THV. However, after completion of a learning phase, results improved and compared favorably with the best in class of the commercially available self-expanding valves. These findings should be confirmed in prospective randomized comparisons of AR between different THVs.

A novel method for four-dimensional superficial wall strain and stress (4D-SWS) is derived from the arterial motion as pictured by invasive coronary angiography. Compared with the conventional finite element analysis of cardiovascular biomechanics using the estimated pulsatile pressure, the 4D-SWS approach can calculate the dynamic mechanical state of the superficial wall in vivo, which could be directly linked with plaque rupture or stent fracture. The validation of this approach using in silico models showed that the distribution and maximum values of superficial wall stress were similar to those calculated by conventional finite element analysis. The in vivo deformation was validated on 16 coronary arteries, from the comparison of centerlines predicted by the 4D-SWS approach against the actual centerlines reconstructed from angiograms at a randomly selected time-point, which demonstrated a good agreement of the centerline morphology between both approaches (scaling: 0.995 ± 0.018 and dissimilarity: 0.007 ± 0.014). The in silico vessel models with softer plaque and larger plaque burden presented more variation in mean lumen diameter and resulted in higher superficial wall stress. In more than half of the patients (n = 16), the maximum superficial wall stress was found at the proximal lesion shoulder. Additionally, in three patients who later suffered from acute coronary syndrome, the culprit plaque rupture sites co-localized with the site of highest superficial wall stress on their baseline angiography. These representative cases suggest that angiography-based superficial wall dynamics have the potential to identify coronary segments at high-risk of plaque rupture and fracture sites of implanted stents. Ongoing studies are focusing on identifying weak spots in coronary bypass grafts, and on exploring the biomechanical mechanisms of coronary arterial remodeling and aneurysm formation. Future developments involve integration of fast computational techniques to allow online availability of superficial wall strain and stress in the catheterization laboratory.

Abstract Background Biochemical marker has revolutionized the approach to the diagnosis of heart failure. However, it remains difficult to assess stability of the patient. As such, novel means of stratifying disease severity are needed. C1q/TNF-Related Protein 3 (CTRP3) and C1q/TNF-Related Protein 9 (CTRP9) are novel adipokines that contribute to energy homeostasis with additional anti-inflammatory and anti-ischemic properties. The aim of our study is to evaluate concentrations of CTRP3 and CTRP9 in patients with HFrEF (heart failure with reduced ejection fraction) and whether associated with mortality. Methods Clinical data and plasma were obtained from 176 healthy controls and 168 patients with HFrEF. CTRP3 and CTRP9 levels were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Background: Covered stents are effective in treating coronary artery perforation (CAP), however, the high rate of immediate device deployment failure and in-stent restenosis have limited the application of the currently covered stents. Methods: We designed a covered stent system consisting of a single layer of drug-eluting stent and a layer of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane wrapped at the outer layer of the stent. The immediate sealing effect of our novel covered stent was observed by using an Ellis type III CAP model. The device’s success was defined as its ability to seal the perforation, assessed by visual estimation and final thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) 3 flow. The antiproliferative effect was evaluated in 12 swine, which were randomly assigned to treatment (sirolimus-eluting covered stents) and control (bare metal covered stents) groups. Coronary angiography and optical coherence tomography (OCT) were performed at index procedure, 1- and 6-month after stent implantation. All swine were sacrificed for histopathological analyses at 6-month. Results: The device success rate was 100%. All swine were alive at 6-month follow-up. At 1-month, the treatment group had a larger minimal luminal diameter (MLD) (1.89 ± 0.29 mm vs. 0.63 ± 0.65 mm, p = 0.004) and lower late luminal loss (LLL) (0.47 ± 0.15 mm vs. 1.80 ± 0.34 mm, p < 0.001) compared with control group. At 6-month, the treatment group had a numerically higher MLD (0.94 ± 0.75 mm vs. 0.26 ± 0.46 mm; p = 0.230) and lower LLL (1.43 ± 0.85 mm vs. 2.17 ± 0.28 mm; p = 0.215) compared with control group. Histological analyses revealed the mean plaque area was lower in the treatment group (2.99 ± 0.81 mm2 vs. 4.29 ± 0.77 mm2, p = 0.035) than in the control group. No in-stent thrombosis was observed in either group. Conclusions: In the porcine model of coronary perforation, the PTFE membrane wrapped sirolimus-eluting stent showed a high device success rate in sealing the perforation. The drug-eluting covered stent demonstrated a relatively sustained antiproliferative effect up to 6 months post-implantation.

Objectives: The aim of the present analysis is to compare the quantitative angiographic aortic regurgitation (AR) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) among three balloon-expandable valves. Background: Quantitative videodensitometric aortography is an objective, accurate, and reproducible tool for adjudication of AR following TAVI. Methods: This is a retrospective corelab analysis, independent from industry, of aortograms from patients treated with TAVI using the balloon-expandable Myval transcatheter heart valve (THV) (Meril Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd., India), Sapien 3, and XT THVs (Edwards Lifesciences, Irvine, CA, USA). The study comprised of 108 analyzable aortograms from consecutive patients in a multicenter European registry who underwent Myval THV implantation. The results of quantitative assessment of AR in the Sapien 3 THV (n = 397) and Sapien XT THV (n = 239) were retrieved from a published pooled database. Results: The Myval THV had the lowest proportion of patients with moderate or severe angiographic quantitative AR (2.8%) compared to the Sapien 3 THV (8.3%; p = 0.049) and Sapien XT THV (10.9%; p = 0.012). Furthermore, the Myval THV had the lowest mean angiographic quantitative AR (6.3 ± 6.3%), followed by Sapien 3 THV (7.6 ± 7.1%) and Sapien XT THV (8.8 ± 7.5%), and it was significantly lower than that of the Sapien XT THV (p = 0.006), but not significantly different from Sapien 3 THV (p = 0.246). Conclusion: The Myval THV, in comparison with other BEV’s analyzed in our database, showed a lower occurrence of moderate or severe AR after TAVI. These results should be confirmed in prospective cohorts of randomized patients with head-to-head THV comparisons.

Background: The feasibility and long-term outcomes of the CrossBoss/Stingray for treating coronary chronic total occlusions (CTO) with distal diffuse disease landing zone remain unclear. Methods: Consecutive CTO patients with distal diffuse lesions that underwent percutaneous coronary intervention by the CrossBoss/Stingray system at Xijing Hospital from April 2016 to October 2020, were included. Patients were analyzed by two groups according to the extent of stenosis in the distal landing zone: 50%–70% stenosis (moderate stenosis group) and >70% stenosis (severe stenosis group). The primary efficacy outcome was technical success, defined as the frequency of true lumen guidewire placement distal to the CTO. The composite endpoint of all-cause death, any stroke, or any revascularization was also explored. Results: A total of 91 consecutive patients were included, with 32 patients in the moderate stenosis group and 59 patients in the severe stenosis group. The mean J-CTO score was 2.5 ± 1.1. The technical success rate was 79.1% (72/91) in the overall population and was similar between the 2 groups: 78.1% (25/32) and 79.7% (47/59) (p = 0.608). No coronary perforation occurred. With a median follow-up of 29 months (IQR: 53–92), the estimated rate of the composite endpoint of all-cause death, any stroke, or any revascularization was 50.4% (all-cause death: 16.6%, any stroke: 1.1%, any revascularization: 36.5%) in the overall population. No significant difference was observed in the rate of the composite endpoint between the moderate stenosis group and the severe stenosis group (45.1% vs. 54.3%, respectively, p = 0.797). Conclusions: In CTO lesions with distal diffuse disease landing zone, the technical success rates of CrossBoss/Stingray and the long-term clinical outcomes were not significantly different between the moderate stenosis group (50%–70%) and the severe stenosis group (>70%). However, the relatively high rate of long-term clinical outcomes, especially any revascularization, warrants further investigations on this indication in future studies.

Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) have been developed and improved as both diagnostic and guidance tools for interventional procedures over the past three decades. IVUS has a resolution of 100 μm with a high tissue penetration and capability of assessing the entire structure of a coronary artery including the external elastic membrane, whereas OCT has a higher resolution of 10–20 μm to assess endoluminal structures with a limited tissue penetration compared to IVUS. Recently, two companies, CONAVI and TERUMO, integrated IVUS and OCT into a single catheter system. With their inherent strength and limitations, the combined IVUS and OCT probes are complementary and work synergistically to enable a comprehensive depiction of coronary artery. In this review, we summarize the performance of the two intracoronary imaging modalities—IVUS and OCT—and discuss the expected potential of the novel hybrid IVUS–OCT catheter system in the clinical field.

The new-generation ACURATE neo2 system was commercially released in September 2020. In this study, we sought to compare the aortic regurgitation (AR) severity of the ACURATE neo2 versus the ACURATE neo transcatheter heart valve, using quantitative videodensitometric angiography (qAR). This is a retrospective, Corelab analysis of final post-transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) aortograms of patients treated with the ACURATE neo2 and ACURATE neo systems. The ACURATE neo2 cohort comprised consecutive patients treated between September 2020 and January 2021 at two centers. The ACURATE neo cohort included consecutive patients treated before September 2020. Our primary objective was to compare AR severity on qAR following TAVI with ACURATE neo2 and ACURATE neo. Out of 401 aortograms, 228 (56.9%) were analyzable, with 120 in the ACURATE neo2 cohort, and 108 in the ACURATE neo cohort. The mean AR fraction was 4.4 ± 4.8% in the neo2 cohort, and 9.9 ± 8.2% in the neo cohort (p < 0.001). Furthermore, moderate or severe AR (qAR > 17%) was detected in 2 aortograms (1.7%) in the neo2 cohort and 15 aortograms (13.9%) in the neo cohort (p < 0.001). Quantitative aortography shows a lower rate of moderate or severe paravalvular AR in what is the first European experience of the new-generation, self-expanding ACURATE neo2 when compared to the first-generation ACURATE neo. Moreover, aortographic data need to be correlated and compared to Core Laboratory-adjudicated 30-day echocardiographic data.

Abstract Background Metolazone is a diuretic, saluretic and antihypertensive chemical compound from the quinazoline category that possesses medicinal features similar to those of other thiazide diuretic drugs. However, the pharmacokinetics of metolazone in the Chinese population has rarely been studied. This study aimed to examine the pharmacokinetic characteristics, safety characteristic, and tolerability of metolazone in healthy Chinese subjects after single and multiple doses taken orally as well as the effects that food and gender have on oral metolazone pharmacokinetic parameters. Methods An open-label, randomized, and single- and multiple-dosing investigation was performed in healthy Chinese subjects. The investigation included 3 study groups: the 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 2 mg dose groups were the single-dose study groups in the first stage. Eligible volunteers were randomly and orally administered a single 0.5 mg, 1 mg, or 2 mg metolazone tablet. The 0.5 mg dose group was also part of the multiple-dose study group, and the 1 mg dose group was the food-effect study group in the second stage. Human plasma samples were gathered pre-dosing and up to 48 h after dosing. The human plasma sample concentration of metolazone was quantified using a validated liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method. Pharmacokinetic data were calculated by a noncompartmental analysis method using WinNonlin version 6.4. Tolerability was evaluated based on adverse events, medical examination, 12-lead ECG, and other clinical laboratory exams. Results Thirty eligible subjects (15 men and 15 women) were registered in our investigation and completed all of the study stages. The AUC and Cmax showed dose proportionality after a single dose based on the linear-regression analysis. A comparison of the pharmacokinetic data revealed that the differences between the male and female groups were not statistically significant. The tmax of metolazone was increased by approximately 100% in the fed condition. Metolazone was well tolerated at the tested dose, and no adverse effects were observed. Conclusions Single dosing with 0.5 mg, 1 mg, or 2 mg metolazone yielded linear plasma pharmacokinetic properties in healthy Chinese subjects. Multiple oral doses of metolazone did not display significantly different distributions or elimination characteristics from those observed for a single dose. Gender factors did not appear to influence the pharmacokinetic parameter variation of metolazone. The tmax of metolazone increased in the fed condition. Metolazone was well tolerated at the tested dose in this study. Trial registration This investigation is retrospectively registered at chictr.org.cn (ChiCTR-IIR-17012929, October 09 2017).

Semiconductors have been widely used in many high-tech fields such as photo- and electro-catalysis, ion batteries, and solar cells. In addition to the earliest discovered elemental and compound semiconductors, such as monocrystalline silicon and metal oxides, new types of compound semiconductors have been discovered. Among them, metal hydroxyfluorides (MOHF) are an emerging type of semiconductor that are easy to synthesize and inexpensive. However, many of their properties and applications are not well understood. Nevertheless, some MOHF materials, such as ZnOHF and CoOHF, have been sufficiently developed, and their applications have been extensively explored. This review focuses on a new compound semiconductor, MOHF, with ZnOHF and CoOHF as the typical. After a short introduction to their physical and chemical properties, their common applications are illustrated with several examples. Subsequently, other less-researched MOHF and MOHF-like materials, as well as their applications, are discussed. Moreover, the expectations and development directions of MOHFs are briefly summarized.
