Abstract Background CHRDL1 belongs to a novel class of mRNA molecules. Nonetheless, the specific biological functions and underlying mechanisms of CHRDL1 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remain largely unexplored. Methods RT-qPCR and immunohistochemical staining were employed to assess the mRNA and protein expression levels of the MED29 gene in clinical samples of OSCC. Additionally, RT-qPCR and Western Blot analyses were conducted to investigate the mRNA and protein expression levels of the MED29 gene specifically in OSCC. The impact of MED29 on epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), invasion, and migration of OSCC was evaluated through scratch assay, transwell assay, and immunofluorescence staining. Furthermore, wound healing assay and Transwell assay were utilized to examine whether CHRDL1 influences the malignant behavior of OSCC by modulating MED29 in vitro. The regulatory role of CHRDL1 on MED29 was further elucidated in vivo through a tail vein lung metastasis model in nude mice. Results MED29 expression was elevated in tumor tissues of OSCC patients compared with adjacent cancer tissues. Moreover, in CAL27 and SCC25 cell lines, MED29 was upregulated and associated with increased cell migration and invasion abilities. Overexpression of MED29 facilitated EMT in OSCC cell lines, whereas knockdown of MED29 impeded EMT, resulting in diminished cell migration and invasion capacities. CHRDL1 exerted inhibitory effects on the expression of MED29, thereby suppressing EMT progression and consequently restraining the invasion and migration of OSCC cells. Furthermore, CHRDL1 mediated the inhibition of migration of OSCC cell lines to the OSCC through its regulation of MED29. Conclusions MED29 facilitated the epithelial-mesenchymal transition process in OSCC, thereby promoting migration and invasion. On the other hand, CHRDL1 exerted inhibitory effects on the invasion and metastasis of OSCC by suppressing MED29 through the inhibition of the MAPK signaling pathway.

Abstract Dental diseases such as caries and periodontitis have been common public health problems. Dental disease treatment can be achieved through stem cell-based dental regeneration. Biophysical cues determine the fate of stem cells and govern the success of dental regeneration. Some studies have manifested exosomes derived from stem cells could not only inherit biophysical signals in microenvironment but also evade some issues in the treatment with stem cells. Nowadays, biophysical cue-regulated exosomes become another promising therapy in dental regenerative medicine. However, methods to improve the efficacy of exosome therapy and the underlying mechanisms are still unresolved. In this review, the association between biophysical cues and dental diseases was summarized. We retrospected the role of exosomes regulated by biophysical cues in curing dental diseases and promoting dental regeneration. Our research also delved into the mechanisms by which biophysical cues control the biogenesis, release, and uptake of exosomes, as well as potential methods to enhance the effectiveness of exosomes. The aim of this review was to underscore the important place biophysical cue-regulated exosomes occupy in the realm of dentistry, and to explore novel targets for dental diseases.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the molecular mechanism underlying odontoblast damage repair in dentin hypersensitivity (DH) and the role of Yes-associated protein (YAP) in this process. Methods: The DH model was constructed in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats, and the in vivo expression of Piezo1, Integrin αvβ3, YAP, and dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) was detected by immunohistochemistry. COMSOL Multiphysics software was used to simulate the dentinal tubule fluid flow velocity and corresponding fluid shear stress (FSS) on the odontoblast processes. MDPC-23 cells were cultured in vitro and loaded with a peristaltic pump for 1 hour at FSS values of 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7 dyne/cm2. The expression of Piezo1, Integrin αvβ3, and YAP was detected by immunofluorescence. Verteporfin (a YAP-specific inhibitor) was utilised to confirm the effect of YAP on the expression of dentineogenesis-related protein under FSS. Results: The level and duration of external mechanical stimuli have an effect on the functional expression of odontoblasts. In DH, the harder the food that is chewed, the faster the flow of the dentinal tubule fluid and the greater the FSS on the odontoblast processes. The expression of Piezo1, Integrin αvβ3, and YAP can be promoted when the FSS is less than 0.3 dyne/cm2. After YAP inhibition, the DSPP protein expression level was reduced at 0.3 dyne/cm2 FSS. Conclusions: These results suggest that appropriate FSS can enhance the expression of odontoblast-related factors in odontoblasts via the Piezo1–Integrin αvβ3–YAP mechanotransduction pathway and the YAP appears to play an essential role in the response of odontoblasts to external mechanical stimuli.

Abstract Objective The optimal timing for surgery following neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy for lung squamous cell carcinoma appears to be a topic of limited data. Many clinical studies lack stringent guidelines regarding this timing. The objective of this study is to explore the effect of the interval between neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy and surgery on survival outcomes in patients with lung squamous cell carcinoma. Methods This study conducted a retrospective analysis of patients with lung squamous cell carcinoma who underwent neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy between January 2019 and October 2022 at The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Patients were divided into two groups based on the treatment interval: ≤33 days and > 33 days. The primary observational endpoints of the study were Disease-Free Survival (DFS) and Overall Survival (OS). Secondary observational endpoints included Objective response rate (ORR), Major Pathological Response (MPR), and Pathological Complete Remission (pCR). Results Using the Kaplan-Meier methods, the ≤ 33d group demonstrated a superior DFS curve compared to the > 33d group (p = 0.0015). The median DFS for the two groups was 952 days and 590 days, respectively. There was no statistical difference in the OS curves between the groups (p = 0.66), and the median OS was not reached for either group. The treatment interval did not influence the pathologic response of the tumor or lymph nodes. Conclusions The study observed that shorter treatment intervals were associated with improved DFS, without influencing OS, pathologic response, or surgical safety. Patients should avoid having a prolonged treatment interval between neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy and surgery.

Abstract Clarifying the relationship between the man–machine environment and its impact on the tunnel wall drilling task performance (TWDTP) is crucial for enhancing the task performance. Based on a questionnaire survey, indicators of the man–machine environment that affect the TWDTP were proposed in this study, and exploratory factor analysis and a structural equation model were employed to examine the potential factors influencing the task performance and their degrees of influence. By comparing the discrepancy between the perceived performance and importance, the satisfaction of potential factors was evaluated, and the priority order for optimizing these factors was determined by considering the degree of influence and dissatisfaction. The results of survey data analysis based on actual tunnel drilling operation scenarios indicated that tools had the greatest impact on the TWDTP, followed by the quality of the physical environment, while human factors had the least influence on the task performance. Convenient functional maintenance is the key to improving the TWDTP, along with enhancing the quality of the working environment. Once these main aspects are optimized, it is important to consider additional factors such as availability of spare tools, efficient personnel organization, man–tool matching, and safety and health assurance. This research approach provides significant guidance in understanding the relationships between the man–machine environmental factors affecting the performance of complex engineering tasks and identifying key influencing factors, thus providing essential insights for optimizing the TWDTP.

Abstract Considering the high recrudescence and the long-lasting unhealed large-sized wound that affect the aesthetics and cause dysfunction after resection of maxillofacial malignant skin tumors, a groundbreaking strategy is urgently needed. Photothermal therapy (PTT), which has become a complementary treatment of tumors, however, is powerless in tissue defect regeneration. Therefore, a novel multifunctional sodium nitroprusside and Fe2+ ions loaded microneedles (SNP-Fe@MNs) platform was fabricated by accomplishing desirable NIR-responsive photothermal effect while burst releasing nitric oxide (NO) after the ultraviolet radiation for the ablation of melanoma. Moreover, the steady releasing of NO in the long term by the platform can exert its angiogenic effects via upregulating multiple related pathways to promote tissue regeneration. Thus, the therapeutic dilemma caused by postoperative maxillofacial skin malignancies could be conquered through promoting tumor cell apoptosis via synergistic PTT—gas therapy and subsequent regeneration process in one step. The bio-application of SNP-Fe@MNs could be further popularized based on its ideal bioactivity and appealing features as a strategy for synergistic therapy of other tumors occurred in skin. Abstract Malocclusion, identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of three major oral diseases, profoundly impacts the dental-maxillofacial functions, facial esthetics, and long-term development of ~260 million children in China. Beyond its physical manifestations, malocclusion also significantly influences the psycho-social well-being of these children. Timely intervention in malocclusion can foster an environment conducive to dental-maxillofacial development and substantially decrease the incidence of malocclusion or reduce the severity and complexity of malocclusion in the permanent dentition, by mitigating the negative impact of abnormal environmental influences on the growth. Early orthodontic treatment encompasses accurate identification and treatment of dental and maxillofacial morphological and functional abnormalities during various stages of dental-maxillofacial development, ranging from fetal stages to the early permanent dentition phase. From an economic and societal standpoint, the urgency for effective early orthodontic treatments for malocclusions in childhood cannot be overstated, underlining its profound practical and social importance. This consensus paper discusses the characteristics and the detrimental effects of malocclusion in children, emphasizing critical need for early treatment. It elaborates on corresponding core principles and fundamental approaches in early orthodontics, proposing comprehensive guidance for preventive and interceptive orthodontic treatment, serving as a reference for clinicians engaged in early orthodontic treatment.

Purpose Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is a prevalent condition, but long-term effective treatments are scarce. Differentiation of odontoblast-like cells is promising for inducing tertiary dentinogenesis and ensuring sustained therapeutic efficacy against DH. This study examined the effects and mechanism of action of mild heat stress (MHS) on the differentiation of odontoblast-like MDPC-23 cells.Methods We used a heating device to accurately control the temperature and duration, mimicking the thermal microenvironment of odontoblast-like cells. Using this device, the effects of MHS on cell viability and differentiation were examined. Cell viability was assessed using the MTT assay. The expression and nucleoplasmic ratio of the yes-associated protein (YAP) were examined by western blotting and immunofluorescence. The gene expression levels of heat shock proteins (HSPs) and dentin matrix protein-1 (DMP1) were measured using qPCR. Dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) expression was evaluated using immunofluorescence and immunoblotting. Verteporfin was used to inhibit YAP activity.Results Mild heat stress (MHS) enhanced the odontoblast differentiation of MDPC-23 cells while maintaining cell viability. MHS also increased YAP activity, as well as the levels of HSP25 mRNA, HSP70 mRNA, HSP90α mRNA, DMP1 mRNA, and DSPP protein. However, after YAP inhibition, both cell viability and the levels of HSP90α mRNA, DMP1 mRNA, and DSPP protein were reduced.Conclusion YAP plays a crucial role in maintaining cell viability and promoting odontoblast differentiation of MDPC-23 cells under MHS. Consequently, MHS is a potential therapeutic strategy for DH, and boosting YAP activity could be beneficial for maintaining cell viability and promoting odontoblast differentiation.

Prior studies demonstrated an equivocal conclusion about the association between the level of retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4)/visfatin and periodontitis patients with obesity. The aim of our study (Prospero ID: CRD42023469058) was to systematically review the available articles linking the biofluid levels of RBP4/visfatin to the comorbidity of periodontitis and obesity. Clinical trials were screened in accordance with specific inclusion criteria from seven databases up to November 2023. A quality assessment was performed with the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale and ROBINS-I tools for observational and interventional trials, respectively. The standard mean difference (SMD) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) related to the RBP4 level was recorded; the other indicators related to the visfatin level were measured via the mean difference (MD) with the corresponding 95% CI, and Fisher’s Z transformation was measured to reveal the association using Review Manager 5.4. The current evidence was based on five observational studies and two interventional studies. All of them were included in the systematic review, and six of them were in the meta-analysis. Statistical analysis indicated that there was no significant difference in the circulating levels of RBP4 in the periodontitis patients with obesity or without, who were labeled as OP or NP, respectively (155 OP-107 NP: SMD = 1.38; 95% CI: −0.18–2.94, p = 0.08), as well as the periodontal healthy patients with a normal weight, who were labelled as NnP (116 OP-79 NnP: SMD = 6.76; 95% CI: −5.34–18.87, p = 0.27). Meanwhile, a significant higher level of serum visfatin was found in the OP patients than that of the NP (86 OP-45 NP: MD = 4.21; 95% CI: 2.65–5.77, p < 0.00001)/NnP (164 OP-88 NnP: MD = 13.02; 95% CI: 7.34–18.70, p < 0.00001) group. In addition, a positive association was observed between the serum RBP4 and body mass index/clinical attachment loss (CAL). And, then, there was a positive association between the serum visfatin and periodontal parameters, including the probing depth, CAL, and plaque index, as well as metabolic parameters, including the total cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting blood glucose, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Here, the circulating RBP4 level was not independently related to the comorbidity of periodontitis and obesity, while serum visfatin was significantly associated with periodontitis and obesity. Notably, the positive association between circulating RBP4/visfatin and the periodontal parameters/metabolic parameters firmly suggested that the higher severity of the obese or periodontal status was associated with an elevated level of serum visfatin or RBP4 in the OP group. With more rigorous longitudinal research, the exact causations between RBP4/visfatin and the patients affected by obesity and periodontitis could be disentangled. RBP4 and visfatin might be novel, enlightening prospective bio-indexes for the targeted treatment of comorbidities.

Molecular dynamics method was used to establish composite wall/inorganic nanopores of three pore sizes, three shale oil systems, five CO2-cosolvent systems, and pure CO2 system. The process of CO2-cosolvent displacement of crude oil in shale nanopores and carbon storage was simulated and the influencing factors of displacement and storage were analyzed. It is shown that the attraction of the quartz wall to shale oil increases with the degree of hydroxylation. The higher the degree of quartz hydroxylation, the more difficult it is to extract the polar components of shale oil. Nanopore size also has a great impact on shale oil displacement efficiency. The larger the pore size, the higher the shale oil displacement efficiency. The closer the cosolvent molecules are to the polarity of the shale oil, the higher the mutual solubility of CO2 and shale oil. The more the non-polar components of shale oil, the lower the mutual solubility of CO2 and shale oil with highly polar cosolvent. Ethyl acetate is more effective in stripping relatively high polar shale oil, while dimethyl ether is more effective in stripping relatively low polar shale oil. Kerogen is highly adsorptive, especially to CO2. The CO2 inside the kerogen is not easy to diffuse and leak, thus allowing for a stable carbon storage. The highest CO2 storage rate is observed when dimethyl ether is used as a cosolvent, and the best storage stability is observed when ethyl acetate is used as a cosolvent.

The precise timing of the active source excitation is very important. In order to obtain more accurate excitation timing, we debugged and installed the underwater node seismometer observation system in the Liujiaxia active source, and recorded the excitation data. Experiments show that the underwater node seismometer observation system can clearly record the excitation signal of the air gun source. At the same time, the ambient noise analysis was carried out for the observation data in calm. The noise power spectral density was lower than the NHNM noise curve, and the ambient noise value of each item was less than −120 dB. Compared with the ambient noise of the instruments erected on the shore, the noise recorded by the underwater seismometer was slightly higher than the noise of the onshore seismometer, which may be related to water waves, wind and ship navigation. Spectrum analysis of excitation data shows that the dominant frequency is within the range of 2～8 Hz, which is consistent with previous research results and can be used as one of the reference stations for recording active source excitation signal in Liujiaxia. The application of underwater node seismometer in land active source detection will be of certain value for improving the observation accuracy of air-gun active source and the construction of air-gun active source seismic monitoring system and data processing.

BackgroundThe psychological status of Chinese postgraduate students majoring in stomatology after the COVID-19 restrictions still remains unclear. The objective of this study is to evaluate the mental status through a cross-sectional survey and gather related theoretical evidence for psychological intervention on postgraduate students majoring in stomatology.MethodsAn online survey was administered, and subjective well-being, anxiety, stress and depression symptoms were assessed using the 5-item World Health Organization Well-Being Index (WHO-5), item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7), 10-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), respectively, wherein suicidal ideation and sleep-related problems were measured with PHQ-9 and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI).ResultsA total of 208 participants who completed one questionnaire were considered as valid. It was found that female respondents generally exhibited significantly higher levels of PSS-10, PHQ-9, and GAD-7 scores and shorter physical activity hours than male students. Students from rural areas demonstrated significantly higher levels of PHQ-9, suicidal ideation, and less portion of good or fair family economic support. Additionally, individuals from only-child families reported increased levels of activity hours (1.78 ± 2.07, p = 0.045) and a higher portion (55.10%, p = 0.007) of having clear future plan as compared with multiple-child families. The risk factors for anxiety symptoms (GAD-7 score) were higher scores of PSS-10 (OR = 1.15, 95% CI = 1.09–1.22), PHQ-9 (OR = 1.35, 95% CI = 1.22–1.49), and ISI-7 (OR = 1.14, 95% CI = 1.06–1.23), while owning a clear graduation plan was the protective factor (OR = 0.55, 95% CI = 0.31–0.98). Moreover, the risk factors for depressive symptoms (PHQ-9) included PSS-10 (OR = 1.10, 95% CI = 1.04–1.16), GAD-7 (OR = 1.38, 95% CI = 1.25–1.52), suicidal ideation (OR = 5.66, 95% CI = 3.37–9.51), and ISI-7 (OR = 1.17, 95% CI = 1.09–1.25). Approximately 98.08% of Chinese postgraduates studying stomatology reported experiencing at least moderate stress after the COVID-19 restrictions.ConclusionWithin the limitations of this study, senior students were more inclined to stress, while anxiety symptoms were related to severer levels of stress, depression, and insomnia. Depressive symptoms were associated with higher levels of stress, anxiety, insomnia, suicidal ideation, and lower levels of self-reported well-being. Thus, psychological interventions for postgraduates should be timely and appropriately implemented by strengthening well-being, reasonably planning for the future, and good physique, thereby mitigating the psychological issues after COVID-19 restrictions.

Efficient object handover between humans and robots holds significant importance within collaborative manufacturing environments. Enhancing the efficacy of human–robot handovers involves enabling robots to comprehend and foresee human handover intentions. This article introduces human‐teaching–robot‐learning‐prediction framework, allowing robots to learn from diverse human demonstrations and anticipate human handover intentions. The framework facilitates human programming of robots through demonstrations utilizing augmented reality and a wearable dataglove, aligned with task requirements and human working preferences. Subsequently, robots enhance their cognitive capabilities by assimilating insights from human handover demonstrations, utilizing deep neural network algorithms. Furthermore, robots can proactively seek clarification from humans via an augmented reality system when confronted with ambiguity in human intentions, mirroring how humans seek clarity from their counterparts. This proactive approach empowers robots to anticipate human intentions and assist human partners during handovers. Empirical results underscore the benefits of the proposed approach, demonstrating highly accurate prediction of human intentions in human–robot handover tasks.

In this study, an optimized composite was prepared based on chemically modified corn straw, chitosan, and poly(lactic acid) using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The composite was produced by screw extruding and hot pressing. The Box Behnken Design (BBD) software was used to design the test to optimize the composite composition. The optimum ratio of 3 factors, e.g. chemically modified corn straw (0.10 to 0.40 g), chitosan (0.25 to 0.75 g), and poly(lactic acid) (2.00 to 3.00 g) on the response value (bending strength) of the composite was investigated. RSM-BBD provided the optimum combination of composites. The novel composite prepared under the optimized factors was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, mechanical testing, water absorption tests, contact angle tests, and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that the mechanical strength, e.g., bending strength, impact strength, and tensile strength of chemically modified corn straw based composite were 21.6 MPa, 4.43 kJ/m2, and 20.0 MPa, respectively, which increased by 23.5%, 13.9%, and 18.7% compared to native corn straw based composite. Improved mechanical strength and hydrophobicity for chemically modified corn straw/chitosan/poly(lactic acid) demonstrated that chemically modified biomass fibers and bio-based degradable polymers have the potential to produce environmentally friendly composites.

Abstract Objective This retrospective study analyzed breathing patterns and age subgroups effect on cortical bone quality of the mandible in growing subjects, aiming to explore the application value of facial skeletal pattern combined with cortical bone density detection in early screening diagnosis of mouth breathing. Methods One hundred twenty-six participants were divided into four groups: mouth breathing group (7–9, 10–12 years old) and nasal breathing group (7–9, 10–12 years old). The mandibular anterior, middle, and posterior cortical bone mineral density (CBMD), cortical bone width (MCW), ANB, and FMA values were measured. Independent T-test and Mann–Whitney U test were used to compare the measured values. Binary logistic regression was employed to analyze the correlation between measured variables and the children’s breathing patterns. ROC analysis was used to determine the ability of the cortical bone density measurements in early screening diagnosis of MB. Results Mouth breathing had a negative impact on CBMD and MCW of the pre-mandibular (Pog) in subjects aged 7–9 years and also impacted the development of (Pog) and submandibular (Me) sites in subjects aged 10–12 years. Older children in the nasal breathing group have higher CBMD, MCW, and SNB values and lower FMA values. Single-factor and multiple-factor logistic binary regression analysis showed that FMA, MSPogCBMD, MSPogMCW, and ANB are correlated factors for children at risk of mouth breathing. Conclusion Mouth breathing pattern is closely associated with decreased mandibular CBMD and MCW values in children aged 7–12, where the anterior (Pog) and inferior (Me) sites of anterior mandible are more significantly affected. Furthermore, in combination with facial skeletal pattern, it provides a basis for the early warning diagnosis of mouth breathing.

Abstract Background The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) on inflammatory-related cytokines/adipocytokines in periodontitis patients with or without obesity. Methods We followed the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses statement and registered the study (CRD42022375331) in the Prospective International Register of Systematic Reviews. We screened randomized-controlled trials and controlled clinical trials from six databases up to December 2022. Quality assessment was performed with RoB-2 and ROBINS-I tools for randomized trials and non-randomized trials, respectively. Meta-analysis was carried out using a random-effect model. Results We included seventeen references in the systematic analysis, and sixteen in the meta-analysis. Baseline results of pro-inflammatory biomarkers, including serum interleukin (IL)-6, serum and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-a, serum C-reactive protein (CRP)/hs-CRP, and serum and GCF resistin, were higher in obesity subjects than in normal weight subjects. The effect of NSPT with respect to levels of cytokines/adipocytokines, including IL-6, TNF-a, CRP/hs-CRP, resistin, adiponectin, leptin and retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4), were then analyzed in the systematic and meta-analysis. After three months of NSPT, serum (MD = -0.54, CI = -0.62 – -0.46), and GCF (MD = -2.70, CI = -4.77 – -0.63) levels of IL-6, along with the serum RBP4 (MD = -0.39, CI = -0.68–0.10) decreased in periodontitis individuals with obesity. NSPT also improved GCF adiponectin levels after three months (MD = 2.37, CI = 0.29 – 4.45) in periodontitis individuals without obesity. Conclusions Obese status altered the baseline levels of cytokines/adipocytokines (serum IL-6, serum and GCF TNF-a, serum CRP/hs-CRP, and serum and GCF resistin). Then NSPT can shift the levels of specific pro-inflammatory mediators and anti-inflammatory mediators in biological fluids, both in obesity and non-obesity individuals. NSPT can reduce serum and GCF IL-6 levels together with serum RBP4 level in individuals with obesity after 3 months, besides, there is no sufficient evidence to prove that obese patients have a statistically significant decrease in the levels of other cytokines compared to patients with normal weight. NSPT can also increase GCF adiponectin level in normal weight individuals after 3 months. Our findings imply the potential ideal follow-up intervals and sensitive biomarkers for clinical bioanalysis in personalized decision-making of effect of NSPT due to patients’ BMI value.

A new class of bio-composites was developed by utilizing four kinds of lignocellulosic biomass fiber (bagasse, bamboo, rice husk, and rice straw) as filling fibers. Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) and poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) in a mixture ratio of 7:3 were used as matrix materials with hot-press molding. The performance of the resulting composites was evaluated by compositional analyses, mechanical analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and morphological analysis. The interfacial adhesion, thermal stability, and comprehensive mechanical properties of the alkali treated bamboo/PHB/PBS composite were highest among the four bio-composites. The bending strength, tensile strength, and impact strength for alkali treated bamboo/PHB/PBS composite was 19.82 MPa, 12.97 MPa, and 4.30 kJ/m2, respectively. The thermal stability for NaOH modified bamboo/PHB/PBS composite was slightly superior to the other three composites, with the initial pyrolysis temperature of 248 °C, moderate pyrolysis speed, and the amount of pyrolysis residue (5.81%). The results showed the suitability of biomass fiber and biodegradable polymer for producing environmentally friendly composite materials.

Alkali-treated bagasse fiber was used as a process variable for optimization of the properties of polybutylene succinate/poly(lactic acid)-based biocomposites using Box-Behnken design (BBD) and response surface methodology (RSM). The optimum conditions for three factors, i.e., NaOH-treated bagasse fiber (0.55 to 1.65 g), polybutylene succinate (1.1 to 2.3 g), and poly(lactic acid) (2.2 to 3.4 g) on the bending strength of biocomposite were investigated. The optimum combination was 0.91 g of NaOH-treated bagasse fiber, 1.14 g of polybutylene succinate, and 3.10 g of poly(lactic acid). The bending strength for NaOH-treated bagasse fiber/polybutylene succinate/ poly(lactic acid) composite was 27.0 MPa, which was 26.0% higher than native bagasse fiber-based composite. The composites were also characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, mechanical testing, Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, water absorption, and contact angle tests. Results demonstrated that the bending strength, impact strength, and tensile strength of alkali treated bagasse fiber-based biocomposite increased by 26.0%, 15.5%, and 23.3%, separately, compared with native bagasse-based composite after sequential homogenization, compounding, and hot pressing. The hydrophobicity for alkali-treated bagasse fiber/PBS/PLA was also improved. Thus, NaOH-treated biomass materials/biodegradable polymer was judged to be suitable for preparing green composite materials.

AIM: To evaluate optic nerve head (ONH) vessel density (VD) changes after cataract surgery using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS: This was a prospective observational study. Thirty-four eyes with mild/moderate cataracts were included. ONH scans were obtained before and 3mo after cataract surgery using OCTA. Radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) density, all VD, large VD and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFLT) in total disc, inside disc, and different peripapillary sectors were assessed and analyzed. Image quality score (QS), fundus photography grading and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were also collected, and correlation analyses were performed between VD change and these parameters. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the 3-dimensional (3D) facial morphology of children with skeletal Class II structure with different breathing patterns. Methods: The 3dMDFace system (3dMD Inc.) was used to obtain 3D facial images. A total of 65 patients aged 10 to 12 years with skeletal Class II malocclusion (A point-Nasion-B point angle >5°) were grouped by sex into nasal-breathing (NB) and mouth-breathing (MB) participants. A total of 19 measurements, including linear distances, angles, and ratios, were measured. The measurements were compared using independent sample t test and Mann–Whitney U test. Factor analysis and logistic regression were used to test the correlation between facial morphology and different breathing patterns. Results: For male children, the lower lip was longer in the MB group than in the NB group (P < .05). For female children, compared to NB, MB patients had a narrower mandibular width (P < .05), a smaller ratio of mandibular width to face height (MB: 0.99 ± 0.08 vs NB: 1.04 ± 0.09; P < .05), and a larger ratio of lower lip height to lip width (MB: 1.24 ± 0.10 vs NB: 1.19 ± 0.16; P < .05). In both male and female children, MB participants had a more convex nasolabial angle (P < .05) and an increased ratio of the lower part of the face to the upper facial height (male MB: 1.61 ± 0.17 vs male NB: 1.50 ± 0.12; female MB: 1.52 ± 0.10 vs female NB: 1.50 ± 0.20; P < .05). The logistic regression test showed no significant correlation between facial morphology and breathing patterns. Conclusions: In participants with skeletal Class II pattern, MB children compared with NB children showed different facial morphology in the same sex group. The children with MB showed a more protruded upper lip and increased lower facial height, accounting for a larger proportion of the facial height. However, no significant correlation was found between facial morphology and breathing pattern. Only correlative trends were found.

Abstract Objectives To analyze the clinical characteristics and influencing factors of hepatotoxicity in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with programmed cell death protein‐1 (PD‐1) inhibitors, and to provide a theoretical basis for the treatment of immune‐related hepatotoxicity in patients with advanced HCC. Methods Retrospective analysis of clinical data of patients with advanced HCC from February 2021 to February 2023, in order to summarize and statistically analyze the influencing factors of immune‐related liver adverse reactions. Results A total of 135 patients met the inclusion criteria, among whom 46 patients experienced varying degrees of immune‐related liver adverse reactions, with an incidence rate of 34.1% (46/135). The time range of immune‐related liver adverse reactions was 3–26 weeks, with a median time of 4 weeks. The age range of immune‐related liver adverse reactions was 34–73 years, with a median age of 62 years. IntroductionA potential association between periodontitis and endometriosis has been indicated in previous observational studies. Nevertheless, the causal link between these two disorders has not been clarified.MethodsBased on publicly available genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary datasets, we conducted a bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) study to investigate the relationship between periodontitis and endometriosis and its subtypes. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) strongly associated with candidate exposures at the genome-wide significance level (P < 5 × 10−8) were selected as instrumental variables (IVs). The inverse variance-weighted regression (IVW) was performed to estimate the causal effect of periodontitis on endometriosis. We further conducted two sensitivity analyses, MR-Egger and weighted median, to test the validity of our findings. The main results were replicated via data from the UK Biobank. Finally, a reverse MR analysis was performed to evaluate the possibility of reverse causality.ResultsThe IVW method suggested that periodontitis was positively associated with endometriosis of the pelvic peritoneum (OR = 1.079, 95% CI = 1.016 to 1.146, P = 0.014). No causal association was indicated between periodontitis and other subtypes of endometriosis. In reversed analyses, no causal association between endometriosis or its subtypes and periodontitis was found.ConclusionsOur study provided genetic evidence on the causal relationship between periodontitis and endometriosis of the pelvic peritoneum. More studies are necessary to explore the underlying mechanisms.

Water diversion is a common strategy to enhance water quality in eutrophic lakes by increasing available water resources and accelerating nutrient circulation. Its effectiveness depends on changes in the source water and lake conditions. However, the challenge of optimizing water diversion remains because it is difficult to simultaneously improve lake water quality and minimize the amount of diverted water. Here, we propose a new approach called dynamic water diversion optimization (DWDO), which combines a comprehensive water quality model with a deep reinforcement learning algorithm. We applied DWDO to a region of Lake Dianchi, the largest eutrophic freshwater lake in China and validated it. Our results demonstrate that DWDO significantly reduced total nitrogen and total phosphorus concentrations in the lake by 7% and 6%, respectively, compared to previous operations. Additionally, annual water diversion decreased by an impressive 75%. Through interpretable machine learning, we identified the impact of meteorological indicators and the water quality of both the source water and the lake on optimal water diversion. We found that a single input variable could either increase or decrease water diversion, depending on its specific value, while multiple factors collectively influenced real-time adjustment of water diversion. Moreover, using well-designed hyperparameters, DWDO proved robust under different uncertainties in model parameters. The training time of the model is theoretically shorter than traditional simulation-optimization algorithms, highlighting its potential to support more effective decision-making in water quality management.

Abstract To make appropriate decisions in the evaluation phase of the exterior design of subway trains, an optimal selection method was proposed based on multi-level gray relational analysis. The exterior design factors of subway trains were analyzed to construct an index system for design evaluation. The significance of each index was compared through an analytic hierarchy process. The correlation coefficient of each index in the plan was calculated through gray relational analysis to obtain the weighted correlation degree of each design scheme. The optimal selection of the exterior design of Guangzhou Metro Line 6 in China was considered as an example. Four types of subjects were recruited: professional designers, students majoring in design, subway train design experts, and subway passengers in Guangzhou. The weight of each index in the evaluation system was calculated using questionnaire scoring. Virtual simulation software was applied to evaluate the human factors related to each scheme. The indices in each plan were then scored to calculate the correlation coefficient and the overall correlation degree; and finally, the optimal selection was obtained. The results showed that it was practical to evaluate and optimize the exterior design of subway trains based on multi-level gray relational analysis. In the evaluation index system, the weights of technology, human factors, aesthetics, and culture were 0.517, 0.297, 0.099, and 0.087, respectively, which showed that technology had the greatest impact on the system, while human factors, aesthetics, and culture were useful complements. Our results showed that Design Scheme 1 was unsuitable as an optimization scheme due to the high escape window. Meanwhile, Design Scheme 2 was optimal overall, from a technical perspective. Design Scheme 3 was the best in terms of the escape window index (a human factor). Design Schemes 3 and 4 were optimally assessed from aesthetic and cultural perspectives. This study is conducive to the optimization of the exterior design of subway trains, can be used to inform design iteration, and provides a reference for the optimal selection of design schemes for other urban rail trains.

The development of smart protective clothing will help detect injuries from contact sports, traffic collisions, and other accidents. The combination of ecoflex, spacer fabric, and graphene-based aerogel provides a multifunctional composite. It shows a strain sensitivity of 17.71 at the strain range of 40~55%, a pressure sensitivity of 0.125 kPa−1 at the pressure range of 0~15 kPa, and a temperature sensitivity of −0.648 °C−1. After 50 impact tests, its protection coefficient only dropped from 60% to 55%. Additionally, it shows thermal insulation properties. The compression and impact process results of finite element numerical simulation analysis are in good agreement with the experimental results. The ecoflex/aerogel/spacer fabric sensor exhibits a simple structure, large pressure strain, high sensitivity, flexibility, and ease of fabrication, making it a candidate for smart protective clothing resistant to impact loads.

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy (CAR-T) has been widely applied in the clinical practice of relapse/refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) due to its promising effects. Hyperprogressive disease (HPD) has gained attention for rapid tumor progression and has become a therapeutic and prognostic challenge. Here, we present a patient who had suffered from several recurrences previously and controlled well with a very small tumor lesion left was infused with CD19/CD22 bispecific CAR-T, with no immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome, or cytokine release syndrome observed. However, rapid deterioration, subsequent imaging examination, circulating tumor DNA, and serum biomarkers detection identified HPD. The patient did not respond to salvage treatment and died 40 days after infusion. To our knowledge, only one case of HPD in DLBCL after CAR-T therapy has been reported. This fatal case alarmed the risk of HPD and the ctDNA profile monitoring we used was performed as a non-invasive method to diagnose HPD, providing far-reaching practical instruction for CAR-T therapy.

The objective of this research was to prepare an optimized bio-composite for packaging based on alkali-treated banana pseudo-stem fiber (BPSF), PBAT, and PLA using response surface methodology (RSM). The effects of three factors, i.e., alkali-treated BPSF (0.8 to 2.4 g), PBAT (0.75 to 2.25 g), and PLA (1.6 to 3.2 g) on two dependent variables, i.e., bending strength and tensile strength of bio-composite, were investigated. Box-Behnken design (BBD) provided the combination for an optimum composite, which was 1.15 g of alkali-treated BPSF, 2.09 g of PBAT, and 2.66 g of PLA, respectively. The bending strength and tensile strength for alkali-treated BPSF/PBAT/PLA composite were 32.62 MPa and 30.91 MPa, which was 20.50% and 16.51% higher than native BPSF/PBAT/PLA composite. The bio-composite prepared using the optimized results was further characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), mechanical testing, contact angles, and water absorption tests. Analyses showed that alkali-treatment could improve the adhesion and compatibility of BPSF in the polymer matrix. These outcomes were associated with the use of treated-BPSF for better mechanical strength and lower hygroscopicity. This result demonstrated that alkali-treated agricultural residue and degradable polymer could be used to prepare composite materials for green packaging application.

Previous experimental and computational results have confirmed that the thermal conductivity of a two-dimensional (2D) material can be considerably affected by strain. Numerous attention has been paid to explore the relevant mechanisms. However, the strain effects on the interfacial thermal conductance (ITC) of 2D heterostructure have attracted little attention. Herein, the non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations were conducted to the graphene/hexagonal boron nitride (GR/h-BN) heterostructure to investigate the strain effects on the ITC. Three types of strains were considered, i.e., tensile strain, compressive strain, and shear strain. The results indicate that the strain can adjust the ITC for the GR/h-BN heterostructure effectively, and the strain loading direction also influences the ITC. Generally, the tensile strain reduces the ITC of the heterostructure, in addition to the BN-C system at small tensile strain; both the compressive strain and shear strain increase the ITC, especially at a small strain. For the NB-C system, it is more sensitive to the strain loading direction and the yx shear strain of 0.06 is the most effective way to strengthen the ITC. Our results also show that the out-of-plane deformation weakens the in-plane vibration of atoms, leading to a reduction of the interfacial thermal energy transport.

Background: The expression level of Ribonuclease H2, subunit A (RNASEH2A) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been reported, but the function of RNASEH2A on HCC cells development and the related molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Herein, we intend to explore the upstream regulator of RNASEH2A and its role in the HCC progression. Methods: GEPIA website was employed to determine the level of RNASEH2A in HCC tissues and get a survival analysis. After reducing RNASEH2A expression by RNA interference, cell counting kit-8, colony formation, Western blot, Transwell and wound healing assays were performed to estimate the malignant properties of HCC cells. The transcriptional factor of RNASEH2A was predicted by UCSC and JASPAR database and confirmed by dual luciferase assay and Ch-IP assay. The expression level of EMT pathway related molecules was determined by western blotting. Results: An increased expression of RNASEH2A was presented in HCC and predicted worse prognosis of HCC patients. Functionally, the results demonstrated that depletion of RNASEH2A suppressed HCC cell proliferation, cell cycle, migration and invasion. Moreover, we illustrated that SP1 targeted to the promoter of RNASEH2A and modulated its expression in HCC cell lines. RNASEH2A knockdown counteracted the function of SP1 overexpression in modulating HCC cell growth, cell cycle, and mobility. Then, our data showed that the SP1/RNASEH2A axis affected the malignant behaviors of HCC cells by regulating EMT process. Conclusions: In summary, these results demonstrated that RNASEH2A promoted HCC cells development through regulating EMT process and was transcriptionally modulated by SP1.

This study presents an electrolysis system utilizing a novel self-circulation process of sulfate (SO42−) and persulfate (S2O82−) ions based on a boron-doped diamond (BDD) anode and an activated carbon fiber (ACF) cathode, which is designed to enable electrochemical remediation of environmental contaminants with reduced use of chemical reagents and minimized residues. The production of S2O82− and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on the BDD anode and ACF cathode, respectively, is identified as the source of active radicals for the contaminant degradation. The initiator, sulfate, is identified by comparing the degradation efficiency in NaSO4 and NaNO3 electrolytes. Quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy confirmed that the SO4−· and ·OH generated on the ACF cathode are the main reactive radicals. A comparison of the degradation efficiency and the generated S2O82−/H2O2 of the divided/undivided electrolysis system is used to demonstrate the superiority of the synergistic effect between the BDD anode and ACF cathode. This work provides evidence of the effectiveness of the philosophy of “catalysis in lieu of supplementary chemical agents” and sheds light on the mechanism of the generation and transmission of reactive species in the BDD and ACF electrolysis system, thereby offering new perspectives for the design and optimization of electrolysis systems.

In spite of significant progress in the research of fast radio bursts (FRBs) in recent decades, their origin is still under extensive debate. Investigation of the population of FRBs can provide new insight into this interesting problem. In this paper, based on the first Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME)/FRB catalog, we construct a Bayesian framework to analyze the FRB population, with the selection effect of the CHIME telescope being properly taken into account. The energy function is modeled as the power law with an exponential cutoff. Four redshift distribution models are considered, i.e., the star formation history (SFH) model, and three time-delayed models (Gaussian delay, log-normal delay, and power-law delay). The free parameters are simultaneously constrained using the Bayesian inference method, and the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) is used in model comparison. According to the BIC, the log-normal delay model fits the data best. The power-law delay model and Gaussian delay model can also give reasonable fits, although they are not as good as the log-normal delay model. However, the SFH model is strongly disfavored compared with the three time-delayed models. The energy function is tightly constrained and is almost independent of the redshift models, with the best-fitting power-law index α ≈ 1.8 and cut-off energy $\mathrm{log}({E}_{c}/\mathrm{erg})\approx 42$ . The FRB population shows on average a 3 ∼ 5 billion yr time delay with respect to the SFH. Therefore, the hypothesis that the FRB population traces the SFH is conclusively ruled out.

In this paper, we investigate the fast radio burst (FRB) population using the first CHIME/FRB catalog. We first reconstruct the extragalactic dispersion measure–redshift relation (DM _E – z relation) from well-localized FRBs, then use it to infer the redshift and isotropic energy of the first CHIME/FRB catalog. The intrinsic energy distribution is modeled by the power law with an exponential cutoff, and the selection effect of the CHIME telescope is modeled by a two-parametric function of specific fluence. For the intrinsic redshift distribution, the star formation history (SFH) model and five other SFH-related models are considered. We construct the joint likelihood of fluence, energy, and redshift, and all the free parameters are constrained simultaneously using the Bayesian inference method. The Bayesian information criterion (BIC) is used to choose the model that best matches the observational data. For comparison, we fit our models with two data samples, i.e., the Full sample and the Gold sample. The power-law index and cutoff energy are tightly constrained to be 1.8 ≲ α ≲ 1.9 and $\mathrm{log}({E}_{c}/\mathrm{erg})\approx 42$ , which are almost independent of the redshift distribution model and the data sample we choose. The parameters involving the selection effect strongly depend on the data sample but are insensitive to the redshift distribution model. According to BIC, the pure SFH model is strongly disfavored by both the Full sample and Gold sample. For the other five SFH-related redshift distribution models, most of them can match the data well if the parameters are properly chosen. Therefore, with the present data, it is still premature to draw a conclusion on the FRB population.

Flavanone 3-hydroxylase (F3H) catalyzes trihydroxyflavanone formation into dihydroflavonols in the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway, serving as precursors for anthocyanin synthesis. To investigate the CsF3Ha promoter’s regulation in the ‘Zijuan’ tea plant, we cloned the CsF3Ha gene from this plant. It was up-regulated under various visible light conditions (blue, red, and ultraviolet (UV)) and using plant growth regulators (PGRs), including abscisic acid (ABA), gibberellic acid (GA3), salicylic acid (SA), ethephon, and methyl jasmonate (MeJA). The 1691 bp promoter sequence was cloned. The full-length promoter P1 (1691 bp) and its two deletion derivatives, P2 (890 bp) and P3 (467 bp), were fused with the β-glucuronidase (GUS) reporter gene, and were introduced into tobacco via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. GUS staining, activity analysis, and relative expression showed that visible light and PGRs responded to promoter fragments. The anthocyanin content analysis revealed a significant increase due to visible light and PGRs. These findings suggest that diverse treatments indirectly enhance anthocyanin accumulation in ‘Zijuan’ tea plant leaves, establishing a foundation for further research on CsF3Ha promoter activity and its regulatory role in anthocyanin accumulation.

Abstract Background This retrospective study investigated the effect of breathing pattern, skeletal class (Class I, Class II), and age on the hyoid bone position (HBP) in normodivergent subjects. Methods A total of 126 subjects (61 males, 65 females) aged 7–9 years and 10–12 years were scanned using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). All participants were classified according to the anteroposterior skeletal pattern into (Class I, Class II). Each skeletal group was further divided according to the breathing mode into mouth breathers (MB) and nasal breathers (NB). The HBP was measured accordingly. Independent sample t-test and Mann Whitney U test were used to detect significant differences between the groups, and binary logistic regression was used to identify MB predictive indicators. Results The breathing mode and skeletal class affected the vertical HBP in subjects with 7–9 years, while they affected the anteroposterior HBP in subjects with 10–12 years. Regarding the age effect, hyoid bone was located more anteriorly in the older NB subjects, and hyoid bone was more inferiorly in the older age group. A regression equation of the significant variables was formulated, C3-Me (P: 001, OR: 2.27), and H-EB (P: 0.046, OR: 1.16) were positively correlated with occurrence of MB. Conclusion There were significantly different HBPs among subjects with different anteroposterior skeletal classes, breathing modes, and age cohorts. Moreover, C3-Me, and H-EB were significant predictors and correlated with increased likelihood of being MB subject.

BackgroundChimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy is an effective salvage treatment in relapsed or refractory(r/r) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), but the impact of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has not been studied.Methods and resultsHere, 51 patients with r/r DLBCL receiving CAR-T therapy were enrolled and analyzed at the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University. The overall response rate and the complete remission rate (CR) of CAR-T therapy were 74.5% and 39.2%, respectively. With a median follow-up of 21.1 months after CAR-T, the probabilities of overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) at 36 months were 43.4% and 28.7%, respectively. The findings of this paper are as follows: First, through co-authorship analysis, we identified countries, institutions, and authors that have made outstanding contributions in the research area. Second, through co-citation analysis, we revealed important journals, documents, and authors in the research field. Third, through keyword co-occurrence analysis, we found research focuses include sign effectiveness, research methods, and research content. And the research frontiers include virtual reality, visibility, and emergency evacuation. The study can serve as a reference for relevant researchers studying emergency exit signs.

Abstract Recently, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have received considerable attention as highly efficient adsorbents for dye wastewater remediation. However, the immobilization of MOFs on the substrate surfaces to fabricate easy recyclable adsorbents via a facile route is still a challenge. In this work, ZIF-67/cotton fibers as adsorbents for dye removal were prepared in a large-scale using a simple coordination replication method. The successful fabrication of the ZIF-67/cotton fibers was confirmed by FTIR, XRD, XPS, SEM and BET analysis, respectively. As expected, the as-prepared ZIF-67/cotton fibers exhibited high adsorption capacity of 3787 mg/g towards malachite green (MG). Meanwhile, the adsorption kinetics and isotherm obeyed the pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir model, respectively. Moreover, its removal efficiency towards MG was not significantly influenced by the pH and ionic strength of aqueous solution. Most importantly, the ZIF-67/cotton fibers can remove MG from synthetic effluents, and it can be easily regenerated without filtration or centrifugation processes, with the regeneration efficiency remaining over 90% even after 10 cycles. Additionally, the ZIF-67/cotton fibers presented excellent antimicrobial performance against E. coli and S. aureus. Hence, the distinctive features of the as-prepared ZIF-67/cotton fibers make it promisingly applicable for the colored wastewater treatment.

The composites with multiple types of nano-carbon fillers have better electrical conductivity and piezoresistive properties as compared with composites with a single type of nano-carbon fillers. As previously reported, the nano-carbon fillers with various aspect ratios, such as carbon nanotube (CNT) and carbon black (CB), have synergistic enhanced effects on the piezoresistive performance of composite sensors. However, most of the works that have been reported are experimental investigations. The efficient and usable numerical simulation investigation needs to be further developed. In this study, based on an integrated 3D statistical resistor network model, a numerical simulation model was created to calculate the piezoresistive behavior of the CNT/CB/ Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) composite. This model also takes into account the tunneling effect between nearby nano-fillers. It is found from numerical simulation results that the piezoresistive sensitivity of composite simulation cells can be influenced by the fraction of CNT and CB. In the case that the CNT content is 0.073 wt.%, the best force-electrical piezoresistive sensitivity can be achieved when the CB loading is up to 0.2 wt.%. To verify the validity of the simulation model, the previous experimental investigation results are also compared. The experimental results confirm the validity of the model. The investigation is valuable and can be utilized to design a strain sensor for this nano-composite with increased sensitivity.

With the use of collaborative robots in intelligent manufacturing, human–robot interaction has become more important in human–robot collaborations. Human–robot handover has a huge impact on human–robot interaction. For current research on human–robot handover, special attention is paid to robot path planning and motion control during the handover process; seldom is research focused on human handover intentions. However, enabling robots to predict human handover intentions is important for improving the efficiency of object handover. To enable robots to predict human handover intentions, a novel human handover intention prediction approach was proposed in this study. In the proposed approach, a wearable data glove and fuzzy rules are firstly used to achieve faster and accurate human handover intention sensing (HIS) and human handover intention prediction (HIP). This approach mainly includes human handover intention sensing (HIS) and human handover intention prediction (HIP). For human HIS, we employ wearable data gloves to sense human handover intention information. Compared with vision-based and physical contact-based sensing, wearable data glove-based sensing cannot be affected by visual occlusion and does not pose threats to human safety. For human HIP, we propose a fast handover intention prediction method based on fuzzy rules. Using this method, the robot can efficiently predict human handover intentions based on the sensing data obtained by the data glove. The experimental results demonstrate the advantages and efficacy of the proposed method in human intention prediction during human–robot handover.

Abstract Cancer is one of the most fatal diseases that threaten human health, whereas more than 90% mortality of cancer patients is caused by tumor metastasis, rather than the growth of primary tumors. Thus, how to effectively control or even reverse the migration of tumor cells is of great significance for cancer therapy. CtBP, a transcriptional cofactor displaying high expression in a variety of human cancers, has become one of the main targets for cancer prediction, diagnosis, and treatment. The roles of CtBP in promoting tumorigenesis have been well studied in vitro, mostly based on gain-of-function, while its physiological functions in tumor invasion and the underlying mechanism remain largely elusive. Snail (Sna) is a well-known transcription factor involved in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and tumor invasion, yet the mechanism that regulates Sna activity has not been fully understood. Using Drosophila as a model organism, we found that depletion of CtBP or snail (sna) suppressed RasV12/lgl -/- -triggered tumor growth and invasion, and disrupted cell polarity-induced invasive cell migration. In addition, loss of CtBP inhibits RasV12/Sna-induced tumor invasion and Sna-mediated invasive cell migration. Furthermore, both CtBP and Sna are physiologically required for developmental cell migration during thorax closure. Finally, Sna activates the JNK signaling and promotes JNK-dependent cell invasion. Given that CtBP physically interacts with Sna, our data suggest that CtBP and Sna may form a transcriptional complex that regulates JNK-dependent tumor invasion and cell migration in vivo.

Abstract To explore the difference of curative effect between different treatment modalities, in order to provide reference for the treatment of aortic intramural hematoma (IMH). 168 patients with aortic intramural hematoma diagnosed and treated from January 2010 to July 2020 were selected in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University. Among them, 48 patients were diagnosed with Stanford A aortic intramural hematoma and 120 were diagnosed with Stanford B aortic intramural hematoma. According to the therapeutic methods, patients were divided into conservative treatment group and endovascular treatment group (TEVAR). For endovascular treatment group, according to the different timing of surgery, can be divided into acute phase group (onset within 72 h) and non-acute phase group (time of onset > 72 h).The clinical data and follow-up data were collected and analyzed by variance analysis and χ2 test. There were 168 patients diagnosed with aortic intramural hematoma 39 of them were (81.25%) Stanford A aortic intramural hematoma patients with pleural or pericardial effusion. For patient with Stanford A aortic intramural hematoma, endovascular treatment was performed in 15 patients (31.2%), and 33 cases (68.8%) for conservative treatment. The average follow-up (24.9 ± 13.9) was months. There were 120 patients with Stanford type B aortic intramural hematoma (71.4%), 60 patients received endovascular treatment (50%), and 60 patients (50%) received conservative treatment, with an average follow-up of (27.8 ± 14.6) months. For Stanford A type aortic intramural hematoma patients when the maximum aortic diameter ≥ 50 mm or hematoma thickness ≥ 11 mm, with high morbidity and mortality, positive endovascular treatment can reduce complications and death. For patients with Stanford type B aortic intramural hematoma, when the maximum aortic diameter ≥ 40 mm or hematoma thickness ≥ 10 mm, with high morbidity and mortality, positive endovascular treatment can reduce complications and death. Both Stanford type A and B aortic intramural hematoma patients could benefit from the endovascular treatment when the initial maximum aortic diameter is ≥ 50 mm or the hematoma thickness is ≥ 11 mm.

Chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy has emerged as highly effective in relapsed/refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), but only about 40% patients have achieved sustained responses. Here, we conducted a phase II clinical trial testing efficacy and toxicities of CAR-T therapy in R/R non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma patients (NCT03196830). Among enrolled patients, 33 R/R DLBCL patients pretreated with DFC (decitabine, fludarabine plus cyclophosphamide) lymphodepletion chemotherapy and infused with tandem CD19-CD22 based CAR-T cells were drawn out for efficacy and toxicities of CAR-T therapy evaluation. With a median follow-up of 10.9(0.6-29.0) months, the best overall response and complete remission (CR) rates were 90.9% and 63.6%, respectively. The median progression-free survival (PFS) was 10.2 months and overall survival (OS) was undefined. The 2-year OS and PFS rates were 54.3% and 47.2%, respectively. No severe grade 4 cytokine release syndrome (CRS) was observed and grade 3 CRS was observed in only 7 patients; 3 patients developed mild immune effect or cell-associated neurotoxic syndrome. All toxicities were transient and reversible and no CAR-T-related mortality. Further subgroup analysis showed that achieving CR was an independent prognostic factor associated with favorable PFS and OS. The 2-year OS and PFS for patients who achieved CR within 3 months (undefined versus undefined P=0.021 and undefined versus undefined P=0.036) or during the follow-up period were significantly longer than those who did not (undefined versus 4.6 months P < 0.0001 and undefined versus 2.0months P

Introduction Methods and analysis Pathology-confirmed WHO type II/III NPC patients at clinical stage III–IVA (eighth American Joint Committee on Cancer/Union for International Cancer Control staging system) will be included in the study. They will receive ICT plus nimotuzumab (NTZ), followed by radiotherapy plus NTZ or concurrent chemoradiotherapy plus NTZ (stratified based on the efficacy of ICT plus NTZ). The primary endpoint is 3-year failure-free survival rate; while the secondary endpoints are 3-year overall survival rate, distant metastasis-free survival rate and locoregional recurrence-free survival rate, and short-term remission rate of tumour and treatment toxicity.Ethics and dissemination The study protocol has been approved by the Ethics Committee of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University. Our findings will be disseminated in a peer-reviewed journal. Implementation strategies are in place to ensure privacy and confidentiality of participants.Trial registration number ChiCTR2000041139.

Bone tissues are dynamically reconstructed during the entire life cycle phase, which is an exquisitely regulated process controlled by intracellular and intercellular signals transmitted through physicochemical and biochemical stimulation. Recently, the role of electrical activity in promoting bone regeneration has attracted great attention, making the design, fabrication, and selection of bioelectric bio-reactive materials a focus. Under specific conditions, piezoelectric, photoelectric, magnetoelectric, acoustoelectric, and thermoelectric materials can generate bioelectric signals similar to those of natural tissues and stimulate osteogenesis-related signaling pathways to enhance the regeneration of bone defects, which can be used for designing novel smart biological materials for engineering tissue regeneration. However, literature summarizing studies relevant to bioelectric materials for bone regeneration is rare to our knowledge. Consequently, this review is mainly focused on the biological mechanism of electrical stimulation in the regeneration of bone defects, the current state and future prospects of piezoelectric materials, and other bioelectric active materials suitable for bone tissue engineering in recent studies, aiming to provide a theoretical basis for novel clinical treatment strategies for bone defects.

Superhydrophobic composite strain sensors have attracted extensive attention due to their excellent waterproof, anti-icing, flexible and conductive properties, but there are still challenges to prepare it with broad sensing range, superior sensitivity, stable superhydrophobicity, and excellent long-term stability. In this study, we developed a multifunctional superhydrophobic silicone rubber (SR)/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/laser-induced graphene (LIG)/SR composite strain sensor using laser direct writing. A highly stable MWCNTs/LIG crosslinked conductive network layer, high-performance superhydrophobic layer, and stretchable SR layer were integrated to fabricate the sensor by tuning the laser parameters. The SR/MWCNTs/LIG/SR composite strain sensor possessed a high gauge factor of 667, large strain detection range of 0–230%, and a stable sensing response over 2500 cycles due to the MWCNTs/LIG crosslinked conductive network. Moreover, the SR/MWCNTs/LIG/SR composite strain sensor could effectively prevent icing owing to its anti-icing (36 min@-5 °C) and photothermal deicing (88 s@1 W/cm2@NIL) properties and hinder acid and alkaline (pH = 1–14) corrosion attributed to the laser-induced superhydrophobicity, thereby expanding its applications to acid, alkaline, and low-temperature environments. Consequently, the multifunctional superhydrophobic SR/MWCNTs/LIG/SR composite strain sensor is demonstrated to be suitable for human body motion detection in complex and severe environments.
