Abstract Here we conduct a study involving 12 individuals with retinal dystrophy, neurological impairment, and skeletal abnormalities, with special focus on GPATCH11, a lesser-known G-patch domain-containing protein, regulator of RNA metabolism. To elucidate its role, we study fibroblasts from unaffected individuals and patients carrying the recurring c.328+1 G > T mutation, which specifically removes the main part of the G-patch domain while preserving the other domains. Additionally, we generate a mouse model replicating the patients’ phenotypic defects, including retinal dystrophy and behavioral abnormalities. Our results reveal a subcellular localization of GPATCH11 characterized by a diffuse presence in the nucleoplasm, as well as centrosomal localization, suggesting potential functions in RNA and cilia metabolism. Transcriptomic analysis performed on mouse retina detect dysregulation in both gene expression and splicing activity, impacting key processes such as photoreceptor light responses, RNA regulation, and primary cilia-associated metabolism. Proteomic analysis of mouse retina confirms the roles GPATCH11 plays in RNA processing, splicing, and transcription regulation, while also suggesting additional functions in synaptic plasticity and nuclear stress response. Our research provides insights into the diverse roles of GPATCH11 and identifies that the mutations affecting this protein are responsible for a recently characterized described syndrome.

Introduction: Porto-sinusoidal vascular disease (PSVD) is an entity characterized by the absence of histologic liver cirrhosis and the detection of specific or non-specific histological findings, irrespective of the presence of portal hypertension (PHT). The pathogenesis remains poorly understood. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), independently of the presence of PHT, can be associated with an increase in central venous pressure, which can rarely lead to the development of downhill varices in the proximal esophagus. Case Presentation: A 53-year-old woman, with an unremarkable medical and pharmacological history, presented with a 3-day history of melena, epigastric pain and hematemesis. Physical examination revealed bilateral peripheral edema of the legs. Laboratory findings included severe anemia, normal hepatic enzymology, and NT-proBNP 1,748 pg/mL. Endoscopy showed large proximal esophageal varices and mild hypertensive gastropathy. A complete liver disease etiology panel was negative. Ultrasound showed an irregular liver surface, splenomegaly, and dilated supra-hepatic veins and inferior vena cava. Echocardiogram revealed significant cardiac valve and cavity abnormalities, especially on the right side, as well as moderate to severe PAH. Diuretics therapy was started with clinical improvement. Beta-blockers were suspended due to intolerance. There were no images suggestive of portosystemic collateralization on angiography. Re-evaluation endoscopy showed large but reduced esophageal varices, without red spots. Cardiopulmonary hemodynamic assessment revealed moderate PAH (40 mm Hg). Liver hemodynamic study revealed non-clinically significant sinusoidal PHT. Transjugular liver biopsy revealed nodular regenerative hyperplasia suggestive of PSVD. Discussion/Conclusion: The case was complex and presented diagnostic challenges, illustrating the uncommonly reported association between PSVD and porto-pulmonary hypertension and the importance of the transjugular liver biopsy and pressure measurements to confirm both diagnoses.

Introdução: O diagnóstico de doença renal crónica terminal confronta os pacientes com a necessidade de adaptação e aquisição de estratégias de coping ante a possibilidade de poder vir a depender de uma máquina de diálise para a sua sobrevivência. Este período é variável e tendo em conta as complicações recorrentes da doença renal crónica (DRC), é provável que estas conduzam a um processo de ajustamento intermitente e/ou crónico. Desta forma, temos como objetivo a caracterização da população de doentes enviados à consulta de Psiquiatria de Ligação a Nefrologia no Centro Hospitalar Tondela -Viseu nos últimos 8 anos. Métodos: Procedeu -se à consulta de todas as referenciações à consulta de Psiquiatria de Ligação a Nefrologia no Centro Hospitalar Tondela -Viseu no período compreendido entre Janeiro de 2014 a Dezembro de 2021. Resultados: Foram referenciados 118 pacientes à consulta de Psiquiatria de Ligação a Nefrologia no Centro Hospitalar Tondela -Viseu no período compreendido entre Janeiro de 2014 a Dezembro de 2021, totalizando 547 consultas. Evidência científica crescente relata uma elevada prevalência de perturbações neuropsiquiátricas, designadamente degeneração cognitiva, perturbações depressivas e perturbações de ansiedade em pacientes com doença renal crónica. Na população estudada, observou -se uma elevada prevalência de reacções de ajustamento e perturbações depressivas, bem como declínio cognitivo de etiologia multifactorial. Conclusão: As interacções cérebro ‑rim são complexas e multifacetadas, justificando a significativa comorbilidade neuropsiquiátrica observada em pacientes com DRC. Assim, é clara a necessidade de sensibilização das equipas médicas e de enfermagem para uma maior atenção a sinais de distress e de doença psiquiátrica nesta população de pacientes, com necessidade de subsequente referenciação. Esta intervenção procura assim, promover a adaptação à vivência da doença, facilitando simultaneamente a adesão aos tratamentos e a gestão dos efeitos secundários do mesmo. Apuramos que o perfil do doente encaminhado à consulta de Psiquiatria de Ligação a Nefrologia no Centro Hospitalar Tondela -Viseu é o indivíduo do sexo masculino, 63 anos, portador de DRC terminal em hemodiálise, encaminhado por sintomas depressivos, a quem é diagnosticado uma reacção de ajustamento e medicado com uma associação de antidepressivo e ansiolítico.

Heterotopic ossification (HO) is a well-known complication following total hip arthroplasty (THA), with an average incidence of 30%. Patients are classified according to Brooker’s staging system. In advanced stages (III and IV), HO may limit hip motion and cause intolerable pain. For these symptomatic stages, surgical excision is mandatory, usually combined with prophylaxis of recurrence with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and/or radiotherapy. We present the case of a 70-year-old woman who developed Stage IV HO after undergoing THA for left hip osteoarthritis. Surgical excision of the HO was performed eighteen months after THA, with adjuvant radiotherapy and indomethacin. After two years of follow-up, the patient had a good hip function with no recurrence of HO. Several authors have studied the effect of NSAIDs and radiotherapy in HO prophylaxis and in HO treatment but there is lack of reports concerning the combination of the two strategies with surgery in the postoperative period. We therefore report this successful case of post-THA HO treatment with surgical excision and post-operative radiotherapy and NSAIDs.

Las representaciones artísticas de la Edad del Hierro identificadas en el Parque Arqueológico del Vale do Côa (PAVC) carecen de contextos de ocupación asociados, es decir, de los contextos estratigráficos necesarios para un marco cronológico e interpretativo. Ante la ausencia de evidencias de hábitat protohistórico en el entorno inmediato de los grabados, se buscó analizar otros yacimientos de la región en los que hubiera indicios de ocupación de la Edad del Hierro. Así, en el ámbito del proyecto RARAA - Repositorio Abierto de Arte Rupestre, financiado por el FCT COA/OVD/0097/2019, seleccionamos el yacimiento del Alto das Malhadas para realizar una intervención diagnóstica, debido a su relativa proximidad a la desembocadura del río Côa, asociada a la presencia de paneles rocosos con grabados, un guijarro con grabados incisos «protohistóricos» y materiales cerámicos artesanales. En este trabajo presentamos los resultados de esta intervención arqueológica, en la que el yacimiento del Alto das Malhadas, se ha revelado como uno de los más interesantes del nordeste de Portugal para la caracterización de la transición entre el III y el II milenio a. C. y para la comprensión de las claves de transición del Calcolítico regional a una Edad del Bronce cada vez más vinculada a la dinámica de asentamiento desarrollada en la Meseta.

Morphogenetic gradients specify distinct cell populations within tissues. Originally, morphogens were conceived as substances that act on a static field of cells, yet cells usually move during development. Thus, the way cell fates are defined in moving cells remains a significant and largely unsolved problem. Here, we investigated this issue using spatial referencing of cells and 3D spatial statistics in the Drosophila blastoderm to reveal how cell density responds to morphogenetic activity. We show that the morphogen decapentaplegic (DPP) attracts cells towards its peak levels in the dorsal midline, whereas dorsal (DL) stalls them ventrally. We identified frazzled and GUK-holder as the downstream effectors regulated by these morphogens that constrict cells and provide the mechanical force necessary to draw cells dorsally. Surprisingly, GUKH and FRA modulate the DL and DPP gradient levels and this regulation creates a very precise mechanism of coordinating cell movement and fate specification.

The aim of this systematic review is to collect and summarize the benefits of Pilates in the elderly population (>60 years old), within the current scientific production, assessing its contribution to Healthy Ageing (HA). We used PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis) to select, collect, and analyse this thematic. The methodological procedures were registered in the PROSPERO database. The main results of the studies analysed (n = 30) point to significant differences between the intervention and the control groups in dynamic balance, strength, mobility, functional capacity, risk of falling reduction, and mental and psychological health. Thus, the results showed that Pilates may be beneficial for the health of the elderly. The meta-analysis found statistical differences between means on the dynamic balance (mean difference (MD) = −0.0, 95% CI [−0.71, −0.50]; I2: 0%) and the aerobic capacity and aerobic resistance [(MD) = 38.29, 95% CI [6.82, 69.77]; I2: 0%). Thus, it is concluded that the efficacy of Pilates has been shown in various areas of HA and has proven to be affordable and safe for the majority of people, using just a mat on the floor. Future studies should focus on the analysis of the relationship between the cost and the benefit of a Pilates intervention in the elderly population, to better understand how health costs can be minimized and to contribute to a multidisciplinary and generalized HA. Pilates has practical application for the clinicians, therapists, and health professionals that work with the elderly population.

Contiguous spinous process fractures are an extremely rare event with only a few cases described in the literature. They are usually stable lesions treated with analgesic medication, immobilization, physical activity restriction for 4 to 6 weeks and close surveillance. These fractures appear to have a significant risk of nonunion, despite the good reported results. We report a case of a 61 years-old male patient who suffered eight contiguous spinous process fractures following a tractor accident.

Introduction: Pusher syndrome is a little-known, but relatively frequent, postural disorder. It occurs when patients sitting or in an orthostatic position use the non-paretic limbs to push (push) towards the paretic side, which results in an inclined posture, resisting with the non-paretic side any attempt at postural correction. This is a challenge for Rehabilitation Nurses. The objective of this study is to identify the strategies to be used in Rehabilitation Nursing care for people with pusher syndrome after stroke. Methodology: Integrative literature review, with narrative synthesis of 9 articles resulting from research in Medline and Web of Science. Results: There is unanimity in terms of strategies to train people with pusher syndrome. These involve guiding the person towards their midline, using visual feedback strategies. Balance training, cross-facilitation and weight alternation exercises, lifting/sitting training with weight transfer to the unaffected side and transfer training with verbal guidance and the help of professionals, on both sides, are fundamental. The mirror is a frequent resource in the analyzed studies. Conclusion: There is little evidence on the strategies to be used in the person with pusher syndrome. The use of assessment instruments, in addition to allowing the characterization of postural disturbance, will be decisive in the planning of care. The placement of a checkered mirror in the wards and/or bathrooms of the units/services is a fundamental resource.

Neste artigo analisa-se e discute-se historicamente o conceito de esperança como categoria ontológica, na filosofia de Ernst Bloch e na pedagogia de Paulo Freire. Na atual conjuntura política, ética e cultural, falar de utopia e esperança torna-se fundamento categórico na área da educação e do ensino. Ao articular dialeticamente os sonhos, as utopias e as esperanças a uma práxis social, os autores desnudam seu oposto, isto é, põem às claras os mecanismos ideológicos de uma sociedade reificada e estratificada. Como contraponto à ideologia, as utopias abrem as portas da educação e da história para o novo mundo, com novas possibilidades e em eterna construção; afinal é este o lugar ideal para discutir a educação e o ensino: o devir, o novum, a formação do ser humano ainda incompleto. A fundamentação concreta da esperança e da utopia – relacionadas à pedagogia, à psicanálise, à filosofia e à história – permite pensar em novas concepções de tempo e de historicidade opostas à lógica do capital.

Abstract Background Acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic Purpura (aTTP) is a life-threatening ultra-orphan disease with a reported annual incidence between 1.5 and 6.0 cases per million in Europe and mainly affecting otherwise young and healthy adults aged 40 years on average. The goal of this study was to assess the incidence of aTTP in Germany. Methods A systematic review was performed to determine the published evidence on the aTTP epidemiology in Germany. To obtain additional evidence on the proportion of aTTP cases within the national Thrombotic Microangiopathy (TMA) population a hospital-level study was performed, using a retrospective data collection approach. Background: The aim of this review was to collect and systematize results of studies from the last 5 years concerning the influence of the Pilates method (PM) on functional body composition (FBC). Methods: The criteria of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) were used in this review. We conducted research in three scientific databases: (i) Web of Science Core Collection, (ii) SCOPUS, and (iii) search directory of the library catalog of the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education of the University of Coimbra—EBSCO Discovery Services. We found 334 articles, covering the period between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2021. After the selection process, we found 33 eligible articles. Results: The main results seem to point to a tendency to get a better body weight and body fat percentage (BFP), hip circumference (HC), waist, and skinfolds from the chest, abdomen, triceps, and supra-iliac in mostly female samples. Available evidence indicates that, in body composition (BC) and FBC, Pilates practice tends to be effective in reducing obesity as a multifactorial condition. Conclusions: It is concluded that there is a marked trend in the benefits of Pilates in FBC, which is in line with other systematic reviews at the BC level (which includes body weight (BW) and body mass index (BMI)) and in the reduction of the percentage of fat mass (FM). It is also concluded that there is a vast lack of studies on the male population, preventing further scientific development in this area. The limitations of this systematic review can be overcome with studies that bring together multidisciplinary aspects of FBC, better designed and methodologically more robust, which will allow more reliable analyses for the implementation of the Pilates method in terms of FBC. In addition, further studies with a male sample or mixed samples (men vs. women) could confirm the trend of no gender differences in the benefits of Pilates practice.

Physical fitness and motor skills are considered important attributes for the military, affecting their professional performance. The high physical and psychological demand that the special forces are subjected to requires the acquisition of a set of volitional skills such as resilience, effort, perseverance, or resistance to frustration, which are worthy of further research. This study aimed to analyse the perception of the special troops (commandos) in physical fitness, motor control and psychological skills. A total of 35 male soldiers that ended the commando recruit training program (21.69 ± 2.36 years old) were investigated. A questionnaire was applied to verify differences in perception of physical fitness, motor capacity, physical effort and military training during recruit training according to age, education, work experience and sports background. Descriptive statistics were used to characterize the participants. All data collected were analysed using IBM-SPSS Statistics, version 24. Our results revealed differences in the importance given to the training of motor skills within military training (χ2 = 19.284; p = 0.023), conditional motor skills – speed (χ2 = 17.378; p = 0.043), coordinative motor skills—motor control (χ2 = 20.616; p = 0.014), psychological skills in a military context (χ2 = 13.730; p = 0.008), volitional skills—resistance to frustration (χ2 = 21.568; p = 0.043) and volitional skills—psychological resistance (χ2 = 29.144; p = 0.004). The participants highlighted the importance of instructors having scientific knowledge in physical education to provide military physical training to be better prepared for this purpose. We concluded that motor skills and psychological abilities tend to be equally important in the context of military training. Physical fitness and motor skill development can be considered essential in military training for most of the inquired participants.

The advantages of the digital methodology are well known. In this paper, we provide a detailed description of the process for the digital transformation of the pathology laboratory at IPATIMUP, the major modifications that operate throughout the processing pipeline, and the advantages of its implementation. The model of digital workflow implementation at IPATIMUP demonstrates that careful planning and adoption of simple measures related to time, space, and sample management can be adopted by any pathology laboratory to achieve higher quality and easy digital transformation.

Purpose: Project-Based Learning (PBL) is considered to be an active learning methodology which can be used to develop both technical and transversal competences in engineering programs. This methodology demands a great deal of work effort from the students and also from the teachers and it requires a meticulous plan and a well-managed project as well. These activities go far beyond the normal activities in traditional lectures, enabling to outpace the difficulties that spur along the way that may be both complex and demotivating. This methodology has been implemented in the Integrated Master Degree on Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM), at one public university in Portugal, since the 2004/2005 academic year. The aim of this paper is to identify and discuss the main difficulties of the implementation of PBL, mainly from the teachers’ perspectives. Additionally, some effective strategies will be recommended to overcome such difficulties. Design/methodology/approach: The perceptions of the teachers were collected through a survey based on six main themes. The participants in the study include eight teachers from the five courses of the first semester of the first year of the IEM program involved in the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 editions. Findings: Integration of courses in the project; student assessment; growing number of students in each team and the need of physical spaces for them; and compartmentalized knowledge has emerged as the main difficulties. To overcome these difficulties some key strategies were recommended. Originality/value: A new perspective based on course teachers' views and experiences will deepen the understanding of the problems and provide inputs for the development of strategies that may improve the effectiveness of PBL and introduce changes for its successful implementation. These strategies are intended to be transferable to other contexts, as most of the problems and constraints are common to other active learning approaches.

The aim of this study was to inspect the effects of format and task conditions on neutral players' heart rate responses and time-motion characteristics. Four formats of play using neutral players and three task conditions were inspected. Moreover, the factor repetition (3 games per each SSG) was also analysed. Ten male amateur soccer players (26.36 ± 5.33 years old, 8 ± 3.2 years of practice, 66.18 ± 10.16 bpm at rest) participated in this study. The repeated measured revealed that no differences were found between repetitions (Pillai's Trace = .075; F8, 100 = 1.007; p-value = .436; = .075; Power = .445; small effect size). In the game 1 significant interaction effects between the two factors on heart rate responses and time-motion profiles were observed (Pillai's Trace = 0.699; F24,428 = 3.774; p-value = .001; = .175; Power = 1.000; moderate effect size). In the game 2 , significant interaction effects between the two factors on heart rate responses and time-motion profiles were observed (Pillai's Trace = .712; F24,428 = 3.860; p-value = .001; = .178; Power = 1.000; moderate effect size). Finally, in the game 3 significant interaction effects between the two factors on heart rate responses and time-motion profiles were observed (Pillai's Trace = .729; F24,428 = 3.972; p-value = .001; = .182; Power = 1.000; moderate effect size). Briefly, it was possible to conclude that the biggest formats statistically increased the heart rate responses and time-motion characteristics of neutral players. It was also possible to observe that the mean values of heart rate responses found in neutral players throughout small-sided games were appropriated to very light or recovery workouts.

We report the case of an 88-year-old female with obstructive jaundice due to a periampullary tumor. The patient developed acute cholangitis and consequent clinical deterioration, so it was decided to perform palliative biliary drainage. Due to duodenal tumor invasion, it was not possible to perform endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. A different approach was attempted and it was decided to carry out an endoscopic ultrasound-guided choledochoduodenostomy. This procedure was performed with a linear echoendoscope, and using a duodenal bulbar approach, a fistula was created between the bulb and the common bile duct. A self-expandable fully covered metal biliary stent was placed in the common bile duct under endoscopic and fluoroscopic guidance, allowing biliary drainage. The patient presented clinical improvement. However, 3 weeks after being discharged, she was readmitted to our department with hematemesis associated with the migration of the biliary stent to the duodenal bulb. Endoscopic hemostasis was performed but the patient had multiple bleeding relapses that were controlled through arterial embolization. Despite the migration of the biliary stent, the fistula between the duodenum and the common bile duct remained patent, allowing a successful palliation of the obstructive jaundice. Therefore, despite the occurred complication, we admitted a technical and clinical success of the endoscopic ultrasound-guided choledochoduodenostomy. This is an emerging technique and a valuable alternative for palliative biliary drainage in cases of malignant distal obstruction. This clinical report supports this finding, reporting technical aspects of the procedure, associated complications and their management as well as the clinical outcomes.

New, intelligent systems have been developed recently to improve the quality of match analysis. These systems analyze the tactical behavior of the teams. However, the existing methods leave room for improvement. Thus, the main goal of this study is to refine the team centroid metric by considering all of the players on the team and the ball position. Furthermore, this study analyzes the relation-ship between the centroids of the two opposing teams. One 11-on-11 soccer match was analyzed to test the new centroid algorithm. The results provided strong evidence of the positive relation between the centroids of the two teams over time in the x-axis (rs= 0.781) and the x-axis (rs= 0.707). This study confirmed the results of previous studies that analyzed the relationship between team centroids. Furthermore, it was possible to prove the effectiveness of the new tactical metric and its relevance for adding information during a match.

The aim of this pilot study was propose a set of network methods to measure the specific properties of football teams. These metrics were organized on "meso" and "micro" analysis levels. Five official matches of the same team on the First Portuguese Football League were analyzed. An overall of 577 offensive plays were analyzed from the five matches. From the adjacency matrices developed per each offensive play it were computed the scaled connectivity, the clustering coefficient and the centroid significance and centroid conformity. Results showed that the highest values of scaled connectivity were found in lateral defenders and central and midfielder players and the lowest values were found in the striker and goalkeeper. The highest values of clustering coefficient were generally found in midfielders and forwards. In addition, the centroid results showed that lateral and central defenders tend to be the centroid players in the attacking process. In sum, this study showed that network metrics can be a powerful tool to help coaches to understanding the specific team's properties, thus supporting decision-making and improving sports training based on match analysis.

The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of different formats (2-a-side, 3-a-side and 4-a-side) on heart rate responses of female students during small-sided and conditioned handball games. The heart rate responses were measured using heart rate monitors during physical education classes. Eight female students participated in the study (15 ± 0.0 years). The one-way ANOVA showed statistical differences with moderate effect between the three different formats (F(2, 1674) = 86.538; p-value ˂ 0.001; = 0.094; Power = 1.0). The results showed that smaller formats (2-a-side and 3-a-side) increased the heart rate responses of female students during small-sided and conditioned handball games during physical education (PE) classes. The results also suggested that 2-a-side games can be used for anaerobic workouts and the 3-a-side and 4-a-side games can be better used to reach lactate-threshold and for aerobic workouts of high intensity.

O objetivo do presente estudo foi o de analisar os efeitos de diferentes formas de jogo (2 x 2, 3 x 3 e 4 x 4) de handebol no desempenho técnico e tático de alunos de Educação Física. Participaram no estudo oito alunos do sexo masculino (18,25 ± 1,04 anos de idade). Os indicadores que apresentaram diferenças significativas foram: contatos na bola, número de passes de ombro, passes de ombro completados e origem de pontos através de ataque organizado e contra-ataque. Conclui-se que as formas de jogo com menor número de alunos aumentaram a quantidade de ações técnicas e táticas, sugerindo-se estas formas numa fase inicial de aprendizagem.

Bowing is an uncommon pathology that can affect marble stone cladding of building façades, causing a large permanent deflection and the degradation of the flexural and anchoring strength of the stone slabs, which can lead to the cladding falling from the façades. Moreover, the combination of bowing with wind pressure effects on the building façades can increase the risk of fracture and collapse of the stone slabs, especially if this combination is not properly evaluated during design. Motivated by a case study, this work describes a stability evaluation of a 15-year-old building façade coated with marble stone cladding affected by bowing and subjected to wind pressures. This evaluation was focused on the stone slabs, and was performed through finite element model (FEM) numerical simulations of these slabs submitted to wind pressures and through lab tests using samples of stone slabs removed from the building façade. The results obtained demonstrated stability problems on the stone slabs caused by wind pressure-induced stresses combined with the loss of strength due to aging and bowing effects, especially for slabs with larger dimensions.

O presente artigo inclui uma investigação de cariz qualitativo, que pretende analisar de que forma a exposição Explorística – Aventuras na Estatística influenciou a compreensão de conceitos estatísticos numa turma de 3.º ano, do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico. A investigação decorreu numa instituição de ensino superior e foi desenvolvida por um grupo de alunas da licenciatura em Educação Básica, segundo a orientação do professor da disciplina de Didática da Matemática e levou à conclusão de que existem evidências que, de facto, a referida exposição influenciou a consolidação e colmatação de algumas das dificuldades de aprendizagem dos alunos detetadas inicialmente, considerando-se assim que o contexto não formal influenciou na compreensão de conceitos estatísticos.

Physical activity is associated with health. The aim of this study was (a) to access if Portuguese university students meet the public health recommendations for physical activity and (b) the effect of gender and day of the week on daily PA levels of university students. This observational cross-sectional study involved 126 (73 women) healthy Portuguese university students aged 18-23 years old. Participants wore the ActiGraph wGT3X-BT accelerometer for seven consecutive days. Number of steps, time spent sedentary and in light, moderate and vigorous physical activity were recorded. The two-way MANOVA revealed that gender (p-value = 0.001; η2 = 0.038; minimum effect) and day of the week (p-value = 0.001; η2 = 0.174; minimum effect) had significant main effects on the physical activity variables. It was shown that during weekdays, male students walked more steps (65.14%), spent less time sedentary (6.77%) and in light activities (3.11%) and spent more time in moderate (136.67%) and vigorous activity (171.29%) in comparison with weekend days (p < 0.05). The descriptive analysis revealed that female students walked more steps (51.18%) and spent more time in moderate (125.70%) and vigorous (124.16%) activities during weekdays than in weekend days (p < 0.05). Women students did not achieve the recommended 10,000 steps/day on average during weekdays and weekend days. Only male students achieved this recommendation during weekdays. In summary, this study showed a high incidence of sedentary time in university students, mainly on weekend days. New strategies must be adopted to promote physical activity in this population, focusing on the change of sedentary behaviour.

El enfoque ecológico que ha sido empleado en los últimos años para explicar el aprendizaje y el rendimiento de las habilidades deportivas, contrastando con los modelos explicativos del Control del Motor más tradicionales, que atribuyen gran importancia a las representaciones mentales del movimiento. En este sentido, el presente trabajo se encuadra en la perspectiva ecológica del deporte desde la perspectiva holística, describiendo el comportamiento motor del deportista en su conjunto y no sólo a partir de lo que está sucediendo dentro de su cerebro. Se ha llegado a la conclusión de que la acción emergente en el contexto deportivo resulta esencialmente de la interacción que el deportista establece con el ambiente, no siendo así necesario recurrir a procesos cognitivos elaborados para tener éxito en la tarea. Desde esta perspectiva, proponemos a los entrenadores que exploren los aspectos funcionales que subyacen a la manipulación de las limitaciones o condicionantes individuales, ambientales y de la tarea, permitiendo así a sus deportistas descubrir de forma autónoma soluciones motoras y encontrar por sí mismos las adaptaciones de información-acción más relevantes para el rendimiento motor.

A cooperação entre companheiros de equipa e a forma como a mesma decorre é de fundamental importância para a compreensão dos processos sociais no interior de um grupo de trabalho no esporte. Para mensurar esta cooperação, métricas recentes baseadas na teoria de grafos tem fornecido uma nova abordagem capaz de potenciar as informações recolhidas quantitativamente. Assim, o presente ensaio tem como objetivo dar a conhecer as técnicas e possibilidades do Social Network Analysis no esporte e como tal abordagem poderá potenciar os estudos sociais. Análise das propriedades da rede de cooperação, bem como, métricas de determinação de dependência entre companheiros e centralidade individual serão apresentados e discutidos neste ensaio.

O plágio tem sido tradicionalmente classificado como um ato imoral e violador das normas éticas, mais do que uma ação ilegal (Garner 2009; Goldstein 2003), e o plágio jornalístico não é exceção. Como referem Coulthard & Johnson (2007), a reutilização de texto por jornalistas, sem atribuição ou com atribuição de autoria inadequada, não é normalmente considerada plágio. A isto acresce o facto de as convenções relativas à reutilização de notícias das agências não serem universais. Porém, as graves consequências inerentes à má prática jornalística (como o caso de Jayson Blair, do The New York Times) mostram que as implicações não se limitam à esfera da ética, mas, pelo contrário, possuem impacto legal, incluindo processos de demissão. Um dos problemas, no entanto, consiste em provar determinada reutilização textual como plágio. Este estudo apresenta os resultados de uma análise linguística forense que pode ser utilizada para provar casos de suspeita de plágio ou para iniciar a investigação de textos insuspeitos. Com o objetivo de identificar os mecanismos utilizados -— e como -— pelos jornalistas para comporem os "seus próprios" textos a partir das notícias das agências, este trabalho compara notícias publicadas na secção "Mundo" de jornais de referência portugueses com possíveis fontes publicadas em inglês. Os resultados da análise mostram que: (a) a atribuição de autoria é, frequentemente, inadequada, mesmo quando os jornais de referência citam as suas fontes (normalmente, conhecidas agências internacionais); (b) nem sempre existe uma correspondência direta com uma única fonte entre a versão plagiadora e a versão plagiada (indicando reutilização de texto de diferentes media e websites internacionais); e (c) as notícias são plagiadas a partir de textos publicados noutras línguas, constituindo plágio translingue. Conclui-se que a análise linguística forense possui potencial de prova e de investigação em casos de plágio e violação de direito de autor, não só monolingue, mas também translingue.

Echinococcosis/hydatidosis is common in societies where agriculture and livestock are frequent, and represents a public health problem. The therapeutic management depends on the cyst's characteristics, the patient, and surgical contraindications. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a valuable tool in the diagnosis and treatment of complicated hepatic hydatid disease. Ultrasonography is a useful diagnostic, therapeutic and follow-up tool. The authors report a case of a 56 years old patient who was diagnosed with a hepatic hydatid cyst in the IVa/VIII segments, describe the therapeutic options and 50 months of disease-free follow-up.
