Pears (Pyrus) are one of the most economically important fruits worldwide. The Pyrus genus is characterized by a high degree of genetic variability between species and interspecific hybrids, and several studies have been performed to assess this variability for both cultivated and wild accessions. These studies have mostly been limited by the resolving power of traditional molecular markers, although in the recent past the availability of reference genome sequences or SNP arrays for pear have enhanced the capability of high-resolution genomics studies. These tools can also be applied to better understand the intra-varietal (or clonal) variability in pear. Here we report the first high resolution genomics analysis of a pear clonal population using whole genome sequencing (WGS). Results showed unique signatures for the accumulation of mutations and transposable element insertions in each clone, which are likely related to their history of propagation and cultivation. The nucleotide diversity remained low in the clonal collection with the exception of few genomic windows, suggesting that balancing selection may be occurring. These windows included mainly genes related to plant fertility. Regions with higher mutational load were partially associated with transcription factors, probably reflecting the distinctive phenotypes in the collection. The annotation of variants also revealed the theoretical disruption of relevant genes in pear. Taken together, the results from this study show that pear clones accumulate mutations differently, and that those mutations can play a role on pear phenotypes, meaning that the study of pear clonal populations can be relevant in genetic studies, mainly when comparing with traditional association studies.

A crescente concentração populacional nas cidades é reconhecida como um dos principais desafios contemporâneos. É nas cidades que os desafios sociais e ambientais se agigantam, implicando um olhar sobre o planeamento urbano sustentável. Os espaços verdes urbanos desempenham um papel importante na resposta a tais desafios, concretamente através dos serviços dos ecossistemas. Os serviços culturais ganham especial relevo, nomeadamente na melhoria da saúde mental, física e social dos seus utilizadores. Este trabalho tem como objetivos conhecer os usos e as perceções dos utilizadores dos jardins e parques públicos da cidade do Porto, bem como de que forma esses mesmos espaços estão a satisfazer as suas necessidades, estabelecendo uma relação com a localização dos mesmos na cidade tendo em conta uma maior ou menor privação socioeconómica e ambiental. Partindo de inquérito por questionário em fase de aplicação aos utilizadores de 25 jardins e parques de acesso público, propõem-se uma discussão sobre os resultados preliminares obtidos (n=131). Os resultados permitem um esboçar do perfil dos potenciais utilizadores destes espaços, além de revelarem que espaços da cidade em áreas de maior privação socioeconómica e ambiental são percecionados pelos seus utilizadores como espaços verdes com menor qualidade. Espera-se que os resultados auxiliem na definição de estratégias de atratividade dos espaços verdes da cidade que possuem menor qualidade e se inserem em zonas de maior privação. The crescent population concentration in cities is recognized as one of the main contemporary challenges. It is in cities that social and environmental challenges are increasing, which implies a look at the sustainable urban planning. Urban green spaces play an important role in responding to such challenges, specifically through ecosystem services. Cultural services gain special importance, particularly in improving the mental, physical, and social health of its users. This work aims to examine the uses and perceptions of users of gardens and public parks in the city of Porto, as well as how these same spaces are meeting their needs, establishing a relationship with their location considering greater or lesser socio-economic and environmental deprivation. A survey is being conducted to the users of 25 gardens and public access parks and a discussion on the preliminary results obtained (n=131) is proposed. The results provide a sketch of the profile of potential users of these spaces, besides revealing that the spaces of the city with greater socio-economic and environmental deprivation are perceived by their users as green spaces with lower quality. It is expected that the results can help to define attraction strategies for the green spaces of the city with lower quality and in areas of higher deprivation.

From cybersecurity to life sciences, anomaly detection is considered crucial as it often enables the identification of relevant semantic information that can help to prevent and detect events such as cyber attacks or patients heart-attacks. Although anomaly detection is a prominent research area it still encompasses several challenges, namely regarding results evaluation in real-world unlabelled and imbalanced datasets. This work contributes to understand and compare the behaviour of different evaluation metrics, namely classic metrics based on positive and negative rates, and density based metrics without classes information. We experiment five state-of-art anomaly detection approaches over two datasets with contrasting characteristics regarding dimensionality or contamination. Each metrics’ ability to give trustful results is analysed regarding different datasets or approaches properties focusing on the possibility of evaluating real-world unsupervised learning models using density metrics.

The increasing complexity of social-economical activities in the maritime domain is raising new challenges to maritime administrations and agencies from coastal states. These challenges require innovative approaches to support maritime safety and security and, in particular, to promote the sustainable use of the oceans. One solution is to enhance Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA) using systems with high integration and efficient analysis capability. With this problem in mind, the European Commission awarded a grant to a project which aims to develop a framework that will enable a better decision process, by the operators and decision makers, at the maritime operations centers and allowing seamless cooperation between operating authorities and on-site / at sea / in air intervention forces. The project focuses on taking benefits from the data exchange to the next level, while remaining completely integrated in the current European policy. Securing shipping and human lives is of fundamental importance for our continued well-being. The most important way to cost-effectively enhance security and safety at sea is to cooperate at national and international levels. This paper focuses on the specific contribution from some partners of the European Project Consortium - MARISA.

Transportation-related costs are responsible for a large portion of the logistics cost. This is particularly important in city logistics process where it is not easy to aggregate deliveries. Fleet management if often based on efficiency criteria which does not always is compatible with customers’ service requests. Models supported by ICT, blockchain and gamification tools are developed to raise collaboration and share of resources in urban logistics process, in a kind of “Logistics-as-uber” concept, where operators share resource and ICT system support than giving advice, handle transactions. The discussion is provided on how such a framework can contribute to simultaneously reduce logistics costs, improve service delivery, reduce traffic in cities and reduce pollution.

City parking is increasingly complex and available parking spaces are scarce. Being able to identify a space to park their cars can lead many drivers to drive around the intended parking area several times, increasing traffic density and pollution. In this research we propose a collaborative blockchain solution with gamification for parking. Users collaborate to report free spaces and receive free parking minutes for their service to the community. In parallel, this approach can be used to collect beacon information from the parked vehicles and create a low-cost collaborative approach for managing a parking control process platform Blockchain that can handle this distributed process and the gamification platform increases users’ participation. info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersion

Medicine is a knowledge area continuously experiencing changes. Every day, discoveries and procedures are tested with the goal of providing improved service and quality of life to patients. With the evolution of computer science, multiple areas experienced an increase in productivity with the implementation of new technical solutions. Medicine is no exception. Providing healthcare services in the future will involve the storage and manipulation of large volumes of data (big data) from medical records, requiring the integration of different data sources, for a multitude of purposes, such as prediction, prevention, personalization, participation, and becoming digital. Data integration and data sharing will be essential to achieve these goals. Our work focuses on the development of a framework process for the integration of data from different sources to increase its usability potential. We integrated data from an internal hospital database, external data, and also structured data resulting from natural language processing (NPL) applied to electronic medical records. An extract-transform and load (ETL) process was used to merge different data sources into a single one, allowing more effective use of these data and, eventually, contributing to more efficient use of the available resources. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

The process of protecting sensitive data is continually growing and becoming increasingly important, especially as a result of the directives and laws imposed by the European Union. The effort to create automatic systems is continuous, but, in most cases, the processes behind them are still manual or semi-automatic. In this work, we have developed a component that can extract and classify sensitive data, from unstructured text information in European Portuguese. The objective was to create a system that allows organizations to understand their data and comply with legal and security purposes. We studied a hybrid approach to the problem of Named Entity Recognition for the Portuguese language. This approach combines several techniques such as rule-based/lexical-based models, machine learning algorithms, and neural networks. The rule-based and lexical-based approaches were used only for a set of specific classes. For the remaining classes of entities, two statistical models were tested&mdash, Conditional Random Fields and Random Forest and, finally, a Bidirectional-LSTM approach as experimented. Regarding the statistical models, we realized that Conditional Random Fields is the one that can obtain the best results, with a f1-score of 65.50%. With the Bi-LSTM approach, we have achieved a result of 83.01%. The corpora used for training and testing were HAREM Golden Collection, SIGARRA News Corpus, and DataSense NER Corpus.

In this work we describe our first steps towards our H2020 project MARISA [https://www.marisaproject.eu] participation, where we intent to develop a toolkit towards the identification of outliers in vessel trajectories based on electronic data regarding position and time. These outliers can correspond to illegal activities that could be related with illegal immigration, drugs trans-shipments among others. We developed process tools that based on any elec-tronic vessel position systems, like Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, it is possible to extract routes in an unsupervised approach. At the same time identify non-conformities based on AIS data signal lost and to identify situation when two or more vessels are approaching close to each other, called the rendezvous.

The study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of emotional regulation strategies on the perception of emotional work of attendants proposing that reappraisal is more used than suppression (H1), reappraisal predicts the use of deep action (H2), suppression predicts the use of superficial action (H3) and genuine emotions are less used than superficial action and deep action (H4). 260 participants responded to the questionnaire of emotional regulation and emotional labor scale. To test the hypothesis we used the t test paired measurements. The hypotheses H2 and H3 were evaluated by linear regression analysis. The prevalence of use of reappraisal and genuine emotions, corroborating the H1 and H4 refuting. Reappraisal predicts the use of deep action, confirming H2. Suppression does not predict the surface action, refuting H3. We conclude that participants base their emotional work in the adaptive use of deep action. They also use spontaneous emotions, signaling there is a convergence between what you feel and what is expected of professional practice. O estudo objetivou avaliar o valor preditivo das estratégias de regulação emocional na percepção de trabalho emocional dos atendentes propondo-se que reavaliação é mais utilizada do que supressão (H1), reavaliação prediz o uso de ação profunda (H2), supressão prediz o uso de ação superficial (H3) e emoções genuínas são menos utilizadas do que ação superficial e ação profunda (H4). 260 participantes responderam ao questionário de regulação emocional e à escala de trabalho emocional. Para testar as hipóteses foi usado o teste t de medidas pareadas. As hipóteses H2 e H3 foram avaliadas com a análise de regressão linear. Houve prevalência de uso da reavaliação e de emoções genuínas, corroborando a H1 e refutando a H4. Reavaliação prediz o uso de ação profunda, confirmando H2. Supressão não prediz a ação superficial, refutando H3. Conclui-se que os participantes baseiam seu trabalho emocional no uso mais adaptativo de ação profunda. Também utilizam emoções espontâneas, sinalizando haver uma convergência entre o que se sente e o que se espera da atuação profissional.

A rich heritage of traditional pear varieties is kept in national Portuguese collections. Out of these varieties, &ldquo, Rocha&rdquo, dominates national pear production. Although a noticeable phenotypic variation among clones of this variety has been reported, little is known about its genetic variability, as to date molecular studies have been performed on a single &ldquo, clone. Eleven Simple Sequence Repeats (SSR) markers were used to assess the genetic diversity of 130 local cultivars, 80 of them being &ldquo, clones. The results allowed the differentiation of 75 genotypes of which 29 are &ldquo, Three synonyms groups and four homonymous groups of other local varieties were confirmed. A Bayesian model-based clustering approach identified two distinct clusters. Using flow cytometry, six cultivars were found to be triploids. These results show high genetic variability among &ldquo, clones. In conclusion, there is a need for different &ldquo, clones to be preserved to enable the correct selection of the multiplication material.

A arte está entre as diversas modalidades de assistência resolutiva ao sofrimento psíquico e à desconstrução de estigmas sociais em torno da psicose por meio da Reforma Psiquiátrica. Este estudo teve por objetivo analisar a contribuição da arte como instrumento de expressão do inconsciente em sujeitos psicóticos e como caminho para a formação do vínculo terapêutico, a partir da experiência de oficinas realizadas na internação de um hospital psiquiátrico na cidade de Salvador, Bahia. A função da criação artística foi abordada como ferramenta de trabalho no manejo da psicose a partir do vínculo terapêutico. Como resultado, considerou-se que a arte pode ser uma ferramenta facilitadora da expressão subjetiva para as pessoas que vivem a experiência da psicose, tornando-lhes possível o alcance de novos lugares na relação com a sociedade e atenuando o sofrimento psíquico da experiência, por meio do vínculo com os profissionais que atuam na unidade de saúde.

Com o objetivo de determinar o efeito da época de colheita no crescimento vegetativo, na produtividade e na qualidade de raízes tuberosas de três cultivares de mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz), desenvolveu-se em Araruna, Noroeste do Estado do Paraná, um experimento em área de Latossolo Vermelho Distrófico, no período de outubro de 1997 a maio de 1999. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos completos casualizados, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com quatro repetições, sendo os tratamentos principais as cultivares Mico, IAC 13 e IAC 14 e os tratamentos secundários, dez épocas de colheita, realizadas mensalmente a partir do início do segundo ciclo de crescimento das plantas. A produção da parte aérea apresentou, no segundo ciclo, aumentos de 50,0% em relação a um único ciclo vegetativo. O bom desenvolvimento da estrutura vegetativa das plantas levou ao acúmulo de material de reserva nas raízes tuberosas, aumentando a sua produtividade. Os maiores índices de colheita ocorreram dos 19 aos 21 meses de idade, com valores, em média, superiores a 54,0%. As cultivares não diferiram entre si quanto à produção de raízes tuberosas, de massa seca e de amido. Para todas as cultivares, a segunda fase de repouso fisiológico das plantas mostrou-se mais propícia à colheita, em face da maior produção de raízes tuberosas (92,5%), de massa seca (125,0%) e de amido (144,0%).

The experimental design was a randomized complete blocks with four replications and treatments arranged in split plots. The main treatments were the cassava cultivars Mico, IAC 13 and IAC 14 and the secondary treatments were ten monthly harvests starting from the second plant growing season. The canopy yield observed in the second season, presented an increase of 50.0%. The good development of the vegetative structure of the plants resulted in a greater accumulation of reserve material in the storage roots, increasing its yield. The highest harvest indices were observed from 19 to 21 months, with mean values superior to 54.0%. The cultivars were not significantly different in production of tuberous roots, dry matter and starch. The second phase of physiologic rest of the plants showed to be more favourable for harvesting, expressed in terms of production of storage roots (92.5%), of dry matter (125.0%) and starch (144.0%).
