The morphology and the microscopic internal dynamics of a bidimensional gel formed by spontaneous aggregation of gold nanoparticles confined at the water surface are investigated by a suite of techniques, including grazing-incidence x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (GI-XPCS). The range of concentrations studied spans across the percolation transition for the formation of the gel. The dynamical features observed by GI-XPCS are interpreted in view of the results of microscopical imaging; an intrinsic link between the mechanical modulus and internal dynamics is demonstrated for all the concentrations. Our work presents, to the best of our knowledge, the first example of a transition from stretched to compressed correlation function actively controlled by quasistatically varying the relevant thermodynamic variable. Moreover, by applying a model proposed time ago by Duri and Cipelletti [A. Duri and L. Cipelletti, Europhys. Lett. 76, 972 (2006)] we are able to build a novel master curve for the shape parameter, whose scaling factor allows us to quantify a 'long time displacement length'. This characteristic length is shown to converge, as the concentration is increased, to the 'short time localization length' determined by pseudo Debye-Waller analysis of the initial contrast. Finally, the intrinsic dynamics of the system are then compared with that induced by means of a delicate mechanical perturbation applied to the interface.

Our goal is to clarify the relation between entanglement and correlation energy in a bipartite system with infinite dimensional Hilbert space. To this aim we consider the completely solvable Moshinsky's model of two linearly coupled harmonic oscillators. Also for small values of the couplings the entanglement of the ground state is nonlinearly related to the correlation energy, involving logarithmic or algebraic corrections. Then, looking for witness observables of the entanglement, we show how to give a physical interpretation of the correlation energy. In particular, we have proven that there exists a set of separable states, continuously connected with the Hartree-Fock state, which may have a larger overlap with the exact ground state, but also a larger energy expectation value. In this sense, the correlation energy provides an entanglement gap, i.e. an energy scale, under which measurements performed on the 1-particle harmonic sub-system can discriminate the ground state from any other separated state of the system. However, in order to verify the generality of the procedure, we have compared the energy distribution cumulants for the 1-particle harmonic sub-system of the Moshinsky's model with the case of a coupling with a damping Ohmic bath at 0 temperature., Comment: 26 pages, 6 figures

We study the security of the information transmission between two honest parties realized through a lossy bosonic memory channel when losses are captured by a dishonest party. A comparative study is performed on two heterodyne systems of photon detectors expressed in terms of a signal annihilation operator and an image band creation operator called Shapiro-Wagner and Caves' frame, respectively. This approach is based on the introduction of a convenient operator $\hat \psi$ which allows a unified formulation of both cases. For the Shapiro-Wagner scheme, where $[\hat \psi, \hat \psi^{\dag}] =0$, quantum phase and amplitude are exactly defined in the context of relative number state (RNS) representation, while a procedure is devised to handle suitably and in a consistent way Caves' framework, characterized by $[\hat \psi, \hat \psi^{\dag}] \neq 0$, within the approximate simultaneous measurements of noncommuting variables. We develop a theoretical frame for the study of classical and quantum gravitational waves based on the properties of a nonlinear ordinary differential equation for a function $\sigma(\eta)$ of the conformal time $\eta$, called the auxiliary field equation. At the classical level, $\sigma(\eta)$ can be expressed by means of two independent solutions of the ''master equation'' to which the perturbed Einstein equations for the gravitational waves can be reduced. At the quantum level, all the significant physical quantities can be formulated using Bogolubov transformations and the operator quadratic Hamiltonian corresponding to the classical version of a damped parametrically excited oscillator where the varying mass is replaced by the square cosmological scale factor $a^{2}(\eta)$. A quantum approach to the generation of gravitational waves is proposed on the grounds of the previous $\eta-$dependent Hamiltonian. An estimate in terms of $\sigma(\eta)$ and $a(\eta)$ of the destruction of quantum coherence due to the gravitational evolution and an exact expression for the phase of a gravitational wave corresponding to any value of $\eta$ are also obtained. We investigate dynamical systems with time-dependent mass and frequency, with particular attention on models attaining the minimum value of uncertainty formula. A criterium of minimum uncertainty is presented and illustrated by means of explicit and exactly solved examples.
