Abstract

Study of the stability of gain and energy resolution for a triple GEM detector has been performed under continuous radiation of X-ray with high rate, using premixed gas of Argon and CO$_2$ in 70/30 ratio and conventional NIM electronics. A strong Fe$^{55}$ X-ray source is used for this study. The novelty of this study is that for the stability test same source is used to irradiate the GEM chamber and to monitor the spectrum. The radiation is not collimated to a point but exposed to a larger area. Effect of temperature and pressure on these parameters are also studied. The detail method of measurement and the first test results are presented in this article.

Abstract

This work proposes a unique design of charge plasma based junctionless SiGe source TFET with dual cavity and ferroelectric gate dielectric. The biosensor works on the principle of dielectric modulation for label-free detection, where the cavity lies under the source and gate metal just around the tunneling junction of the dual gate TFET. Nanocavity above the source and gate regions act as reservoir of biomolecules (to be detected) around the tunneling junction, letting the drain current modulate. Cavity dimensions and its placement have been optimized to achieve better current sensitivity. Dual gate architecture with laterally split dielectric is used to overcome the short channel impact and to enhance the current ratio. The biosensor can recognize neutral, positive, and negative charges with the highest drain current sensitivity and ION/IOFF ratio for biomolecule gelatin. It engages the principle of negative capacitance for better subthreshold swing and ON current for identification of biomolecules such as gelatin (k = 12), keratin (k = 8), streptavidin (k = 2.1), bacteriophage T7 (k = 6.3), and APTES (k = 3.57) at low voltage biasing. Finally, RF analyzes are carried out to explore the benefits of using negative capacitance where the biosensor acts as an intrinsic voltage amplifier exhibiting superior gain-bandwidth product (GBP) and cut-off frequency (fT), indicating its potential for high-speed operation and real-time sensing applications. The research yields repeatable outcomes for several calculated analyses.

Abstract

Background: In adults with an intellectual disability, health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) is often measured by proxy report. This cross‐sectional study investigated whether the mental health of proxy raters impacts the way they rate HRQoL. Methods: In this study, 110 carers of adults with an intellectual disability completed measures of psychological distress (Kessler‐6) and HRQoL (EQ‐5D‐3L) about their own HRQoL and that of the care recipient. Differences between HRQoL scores as rated by the carer about themselves and the care recipient were calculated (convergence scores) and multiple regression models were fitted to estimate the association between proxy psychological distress and convergence scores for subjective/objective HRQoL controlling for support needs of the care recipient, carer age and gender of care recipient. Results: There was a significant association between psychological distress and subjective HRQoL convergence scores (r =.92; P = 0.03; 95%; CI: −1.76 to −0.09). There was no association between psychological distress and objective HRQoL convergence scores (r =.01; CI −0.02 to 0.001; P = 0.08). The association between psychological distress and HRQoL scores was no longer present when models did not include convergence scores. Conclusions: Carers experiencing more psychological distress tended to rate their own and the care recipients' subjective HRQoL more similarly. Objective HRQoL measures did not show this convergence in scores with increasing carer psychological distress. 17. Prediction of plan adaptation in head and neck cancer proton therapy using clinical, radiographic, and dosimetric features

Abstract

Because proton head and neck (HN) treatments are sensitive to anatomical changes, plan adaptation (re-plan) during the treatment course is needed for a significant portion of patients. We aim to predict re-plan at plan review stage for HN proton therapy with a neural network (NN) model trained with patients’ dosimetric and clinical features. The model can serve as a valuable tool for planners to assess the probability of needing to revise the current plan. Mean beam dose heterogeneity index (BHI), defined as the ratio of the maximum beam dose to the prescription dose, plan robustness features (clinical target volume (CTV), V100 changes, and V100 > 95% passing rates in 21 robust evaluation scenarios), as well as clinical features (e.g., age, tumor site, and surgery/chemotherapy status) were gathered from 171 patients treated at our proton center in 2020, with a median age of 64 and stages from I-IVc across 13 HN sites. Statistical analyses of dosimetric parameters and clinical features were conducted between re-plan and no-replan groups. A NN was trained and tested using these features. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was conducted to evaluate the performance of the prediction model. A sensitivity analysis was done to determine feature importance. Mean BHI in the re-plan group was significantly higher than the no-replan group (p < .01). Tumor site (p < .01), chemotherapy status (p < .01), and surgery status (p < .01) were significantly correlated to re-plan. The model had sensitivities/specificities of 75.0%/77.4%, respectively, and an area under the ROC curve of .855. There are several dosimetric and clinical features that correlate to re-plans, and NNs trained with these features can be used to predict HN re-plans, which can be used to reduce re-plan rate by improving plan quality.

Abstract

Lignocellulose biomass (LCB) is a plant waste material that is generated throughout the globe in massive amounts every year and may act as an alternative source of carbon for the generation of various types of value-added products, including biofuels and carboxylic acids (e.g., formic, acetic, and succinic acid). Hence its importance to the scientific community is increasing day by day. However, LCB conversion requires diverse treatment processes, including physical, chemical, and physicochemical processes, which are not economically viable and not sustainable. Hence, the microbiological systems capable of producing desired biocatalysts for generating desired products are being developed. At present, increasing population requires higher amounts of these value-added products, so enhanced efficiency of these processes are essential. As a result, the application of multi-component microbial systems, especially consortium systems, rather than monoculture systems, is prioritized for the amelioration of LCB waste conversion and formation of value-added products. The present review aims to critically analyze the different strategies used by microbial consortia to generate value-added products and discuss the future prospects of this field for the upcoming research. Abstract

Rapid urban proliferation is an indispensable and reciprocal issue in contemporary urban planning and development. This study envisages the prediction-adaptation-resilience (PAR) approach to analyze the future urban landscape resilience and sustainable development goals (SDGs). We have selected a small, unplanned growing up city, namely, Krishnanagar urban agglomeration (KUA), in India, to apply the PAR approach. Therefore, land use land cover map has been prepared for 2000, 2010, and 2020. The result shows the built-up area has been increased most in past 20 years, from 6.36 km2 to 13.23 km2. Then, the cellular automata-Markov chain model is applied to predict the future potential urban development surface for 2030 and 2040. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve shows 83.6% success rate between the predicted and actual map of CA-Markov. The prediction map of 2030 and 2040 shows that the built-up area continuously expands (13.23 km2 to 16.52 km2) towards KUA's surrounding regions. Consequently, other decreasing land classes will be a threat to SDGs and urban resilience. So, people of KUA are adopting the changing hostile nature of urbanisation and urban vulnerability. Hence, this study will help the local administration to make a proper urban planning and adaptation strategies by maintaining good urban governance to achieve 8 SDGs of UN's 2030 Agenda in future.
