Interest in the applications of mindfulness practice in education is growing in the scientific community. Recent research has shown that mindfulness practice in schools may be beneficial for executive functions (EFs) which are abilities crucial for healthy development. The study of the effects of mindfulness practices on children's neural correlates of EFs, particularly inhibitory control, may provide relevant information about the impact and mechanisms of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) in children. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of a MBI in elementary school children on the neural correlates of inhibitory control via a randomized controlled trial. Children from two 4th grade classrooms and two 5th grade classrooms located in a school identified as having low socioeconomic status in Santiago de Chile were randomly assigned to either receive a MBI or serve as active controls and receive a social skills program. Both before and after the interventions, electroencephalographic activity was recorded during a modified version of the Go/Nogo task in a subsample of children in each group. Additionally, teachers completed questionnaires of students' EFs and students completed self-report measures. Results revealed increases in EFs assessed by questionnaires together with improved P3 amplitude associated with successful response inhibition in children who received the MBI compared to active controls. These results contribute to the understanding of the ways in which mindfulness practices can promote the development of inhibitory control together with EF improvement, factors identified as critical for children's social and emotional development and positive mental health.

The present study aims to examine the effects of the MindfulTEA program, an Mindfulness-based Interventions (MBIs) specifically designed for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Intellectual Disability, to reduce behavioural problems. MBIs are effective in improving well-being in people with high-functioning ASD, but little is known about the impact of the MBIs on people with ASD and intellectual disability associated. Fourteen adults (age 18 to 44) with ASD and intellectual disability participated in the program. Results showed a significant decrease in self-injurious and aggressive/destructive behaviours after the MBI. Stereotyped behaviour did not show significant change. Results suggest that the MindfulTEA program could effectively reduce some types of behaviour problems in people with ASD and intellectual disability. MBIs could be a useful alternative to traditional behaviour management interventions for reducing behaviour problems in this population.

This study investigated how equipment and sex affect the prediction accuracy of the maximum number of repetitions performed to failure (RTF) using the fastest mean velocity of the set (MVfastest). Sixteen men and twelve women completed four sessions (two using free-weight equipment and two sessions using the Smith machine). Each session involved three sets of repetitions to failure against the 65%, 75%, and 85% of the one-repetition maximum, interspersed by 10-min of rest. The goodness-of-fit of the individualized RTF-MVfastest relationships was comparable between both equipment types and sexes (P ≥0.510). Moreover, there were not significant differences in the MVfastest associated with RTF between equipment types (P ≥0.258). However, the MVfastest associated with RTF was higher for men than for women in repetitions 6 to 15 (P ≤0.043; ES≥0.69). In addition, the absolute errors when predicting RTF showed no significant differences between equipment types and loads (P <0.444). Specifically, these RTF estimates were within an acceptable range for men (<2 repetitions), but not for women (≥2 repetitions) (main effect of sex: P ≤0.018; ES≥0.58). These findings suggest that individualized RTF-MVfastest equations estimate the RTF with an acceptable precision in men during bench press exercises in both equipment types but exhibit lower precision for women. Simple Summary: Feathers are essential for a bird's flight, insulation, communication, and camouflage. They degrade over time, so birds must moult regularly. This study examined how avian haemosporidian infection and the size of the uropygial gland affect feather quality and growth rate in two migratory bird species in southwestern Spain—the house martin (Delichon urbicum) and the sand martin (Riparia riparia). We found that house martins had the highest haemosporidian infection rates, likely due to their large colony size. Infection only decreased feather quality in house martins and did not affect the feather growth rate in any of the two hirundinids. Additionally, feather growth rate was positively linked to feather quality, but only in house martins. Finally, we found no connection between the uropygial gland size and feather quality or feather growth rate. These results show, for the first time, that avian haemosporidian parasites can negatively impact the feather quality of migratory birds, thus potentially affecting their flight and survival. Further research is needed to fully understand these relationships. Bird feathers have several functions, including flight, insulation, communication, and camouflage. However, environmental factors like food scarcity, stress, and parasite infections can affect feather quality and moult speed. This study examined the impact of avian haemosporidian infection and uropygial gland volume, as well as feather quality and feather growth rate in two migratory hirundine species captured in southwestern Spain—the house martin (Delichon urbicum) and sand martin (Riparia riparia). Our findings showed that the prevalence of infection varied among species, with house martins having the highest rates, possibly due to their larger colony size. Moreover, haemosporidian infection had a different impact on each species; infected house martins exhibited lower feather quality than healthy individuals, although this outcome was not observed in sand martins. Furthermore, no effect of infection on feather growth rate was observed in both hirundinids. Additionally, feather growth rate only correlated positively with feather quality in house martins. Finally, no link was observed between uropygial gland volume and feather quality or feather growth rate in any of the species in this study. These findings highlight the effect of haemosporidian infections on the plumage of migratory birds, marking, for the first time, how avian haemosporidian infection is shown to adversely impact feather quality. The deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) devices is widespread in different environments, including homes. Although security is incorporated, homes can become targets for cyberattacks because of their vulnerabilities. IoT devices generate Domain Name Server (DNS) traffic primarily for communication with Internet servers. In this paper, we present a detailed analysis of DNS traffic from IoT devices. The queried domains are highly distinctive, enabling attackers to easily identify the IoT device. In addition, we observed an unexpectedly high volume of queries. The analysis reveals that the same domains are repeatedly queried, DNS queries are transmitted in plain text over User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port 53 (Do53), and the excessive generation of traffic poses a security risk by amplifying an attacker's ability to identify IoT devices and execute more precise, targeted attacks, consequently escalating the potential compromise of the entire IoT ecosystem. We propose a simple measure that can be taken to reduce DNS traffic generated by IoT devices, thus preventing it from being used as a vector to identify the types of devices present in the network. This measure is based on the implementation of the DNS cache in the devices; caching few resources increases privacy considerably. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents a methodology for evaluating the susceptibility of landfill areas to develop landslides by analyzing Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite products. The deformation velocity of the landfills is computed through the Persistent Scatterer Method on SAR imagery. These data, combined with a deformation model based on the shallow water equations (SWE), form the foundation for a Monte Carlo experiment that extrapolates the current state of the landfill into the future. The results of this simulation are then employed to determine the probability of a landslide occurrence. In order to validate the methodology effectiveness, a case study is conducted on a landfill in Zaldibar, Spain, revealing its effectiveness in estimating the probability of landfill landslides. This innovative approach emerges as an asset in large landfill management, acting as a proactive tool for identifying high-risk sites and preventing potential landslides, ultimately safeguarding human life and the environment. By providing insights into landslide probabilities, this study enhances decision-making processes and facilitates the development of intervention strategies in the domain of landfill risk assessment and management.
