Abstract

In this paper an opportunity to initiate the whole spectrum of martensite unelasticity effects, such as the shape memory effect (SME), transformation plasticity, generation of stress, with the help of ultrasonic vibrations (USVs) is shown It is shown that ultrasonic vibrations change the phase condition of TiNi The ultrasounds influence at transformation temperatures causes deformation and force effects, i.e. the return of deformation and stress generation.

Abstract

Perovskite ceramics of the Bi1-xLaxFe0.5Sc0.5O3composition (0.30 ≤x≤ 0.35) that cannot be sintered in bulk form as a single phase using the conventional ceramic route were successfully prepared using the high-pressure/high-temperature technique. It has been shown that the room-temperature compositional crossover from the antipolar phase whose incommensurate modulation of displacements of Bi/La and oxygen is described by theImma(00γ)s00 superspace group to the non-polarPnmaphase occurs in the narrow range betweenx= 0.33 andx= 0.34 with no phase coexistence. The features of this compositional crossover are discussed in comparison with that observed in the Bi1-xLaxFeO3system. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Abstract

The effect of ultrasonic treatment (UST) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of bulk nanostructured nickel processed by equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) is studied in the range of stress amplitudes between 0 and 100 MPa. It is shown that UST results in a considerable simultaneous increase of the ultimate strength and ductility of this material. There exists an optimal value of the amplitude of ultrasonic vibrations for which the effect is maximal. The results prove that UST can be an efficient method for an improvement of the mechanical properties of nanostructured materials alternative to annealing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
