Nanoscale objects moving relative to a thermal radiation bath experience a drag force due to the imbalance in their interaction with the blue- and redshifted components of the electromagnetic field. Here, we show that, in addition to this drag force, moving nanostructures with an anisotropic optical response experience a lateral force and a torque that substantially modify their trajectory. These phenomena emerge from the additional coupling between the electromagnetic field components polarized parallel and perpendicular to the trajectory, enabled by the anisotropic response of the nanostructure. We investigate the emergence of self-hybridized thermal magnetoplasmons in doped graphene nanodisks at finite temperatures when subjected to an external magnetic field. Using a semianalytical approach, which fully describes the eigenmodes and polarizability of the graphene nanodisks, we show that the hybridization originates from the coupling of transitions between thermally populated Landau levels and localized magnetoplasmon resonances of the nanodisks. Owing to their origin, these modes combine the extraordinary magneto-optical response of graphene with the strong field enhancement of plasmons, making them an ideal tool for achieving strong chiral light-matter interactions, with the additional advantage of being tunable through carrier concentration, magnetic field, and temperature. As a demonstration of their capabilities, we show that the thermal magnetoplasmons supported by an array of graphene nanodisks enable chiral perfect absorption and chiral thermal emission., Comment: 22 pages, 11 figures

In this paper, we study binary triorthogonal codes and their relation to CSS-T quantum codes. We characterize the binary triorthogonal codes that are minimal or maximal with respect to the CSS-T poset, and we also study how to derive new triorthogonal matrices from existing ones. Given a binary triorthogonal matrix, we characterize which of its equivalent matrices are also triorthogonal. As a consequence, we show that a binary triorthogonal matrix uniquely determines the parameters of the corresponding triorthogonal quantum code, meaning that any other equivalent matrix that is also triorthogonal gives rise to a triorthogonal quantum code with the same parameters.

Robots today can exploit the rich world knowledge of large language models to chain simple behavioral skills into long-horizon tasks. However, robots often get interrupted during long-horizon tasks due to primitive skill failures and dynamic environments. We propose VADER, a plan, execute, detect framework with seeking help as a new skill that enables robots to recover and complete long-horizon tasks with the help of humans or other robots. VADER leverages visual question answering (VQA) modules to detect visual affordances and recognize execution errors. It then generates prompts for a language model planner (LMP) which decides when to seek help from another robot or human to recover from errors in long-horizon task execution. We show the effectiveness of VADER with two long-horizon robotic tasks. Our pilot study showed that VADER is capable of performing complex long-horizon tasks by asking for help from another robot to clear a table. Our user study showed that VADER is capable of performing complex long-horizon tasks by asking for help from a human to clear a path. In the context of charge-coupled devices (CCDs), the ultraviolet (UV) region has mostly remained unexplored after the 1990s. Gaia DR3 offers the community a unique opportunity to explore tens of thousands of asteroids in the near-UV as a proxy of the UV absorption. This absorption has been proposed in previous works as a diagnostic of hydration, organics, and space weathering. Aims. In this work, we aim to explore the potential of the NUV as a diagnostic region for primitive asteroids using Gaia DR3. We used a corrective factor over the blue part of Gaia spectra to erase the solar analog selection effect. We identified an artificial relation between the band noise and slope and applied a signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) threshold for Gaia bands. Meeting the quality standards, we employed a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm to compute the albedo threshold, maximizing primitive asteroid inclusion. Utilizing one- and two-dimensional (1D and 2D) projections, along with dimensionality-reduction methods (such as PCA and UMAP), we identified primitive asteroid populations. We uncovered: (a) the first observational evidence linking UV absorption to the 0.7 {\mu}m band, tied to hydrated iron-rich phyllosilicates; and (b) a 2D space revealing a split in C-type asteroids based on spectral features, including UV absorption. The computed average depth (3.5 +- 1.0 %) and center (0.70 +- 0.03 {\mu}m) of the 0.7 {\mu}m absorption band for primitive asteroids observed with Gaia is in agreement with the literature values. In this paper, we shed light on the importance of the UV absorption feature to discriminate among different mineralogies (i.e., iron-rich phyllosilicates vs. iron-poor) or to identify taxonomies that are conflated in the visible (i.e., F-types vs. B-types). Light carries momentum and, upon interaction with material structures, can exert forces on them. Here, we show that a planar structure with asymmetric optical response is spontaneously accelerated when placed in an environment at a different temperature. This phenomenon originates from the imbalance in the exchange rates of photons between both sides of the structure and the environment. Using a simple theoretical model, we calculate the force acting on the planar structure and its terminal velocity in vacuum, and analyze their dependence on the initial temperature and the geometrical properties of the system for different realistic materials. Over the past decade, it has been proposed theoretically and confirmed experimentally that long-range spin triplet (LRT) superconductivity can be generated in ferromagnet-superconductor hybrids either by the presence of spin textures (ST-LRT) or thanks to spin-orbit coupling (SOC-LRT). Nevertheless, there has been no theoretical or experimental investigation to date suggesting that both contributions could simultaneously exist within an experimental system. To disentangle these contributions, we present a comprehensive study of superconducting quasiparticle interference effects taking place inside a ferromagnetic layer interfacing a superconductor, through the investigation of above-gap conductance anomalies (CAs) related to MacMillan-Rowell resonances. The bias dependence of the CAs has been studied under a wide range of in-plane (IP) and out-of-plane (OOP) magnetic fields in two types of epitaxial, V/MgO/Fe-based ferromagnet-superconductor junctions with interfacial spin-orbit coupling. We observe an anisotropy of the CAs amplitude under small IP and OOP magnetic fields while remaining weakly affected by high fields, and implement micromagnetic simulations to help us distinguish between the ST-LRT and SOC-LRT contributions. Our findings suggest that further exploration of Fabry-P\'erot type interference effects in electron transport could yield valuable insights into the hybridization between superconductors and ferromagnets induced by spin-orbit coupling and spin textures., Comment: Submitted for Peer review

On-chip Brillouin scattering plays a key role in numerous applications in the domain of signal processing and microwave photonics due to the coherent bidirectional coupling between near-infrared optical signals and GHz mechanical modes, which enables selective amplification and attenuation with remarkably narrow linewidths, in the kHz to MHz range. Subwavelength periodic nanostructures provide precise control of the propagation of light and sound in silicon photonic circuits, key to maximize the efficiency of Brillouin interactions. Here, we propose and demonstrate a new subwavelength waveguide geometry allowing independent control of optical and mechanical modes. Two silicon lattices are combined, one with a subwavelength period for the light and one with a total bandgap for the sound, to confine optical and mechanical modes, respectively. Based on this approach, we experimentally demonstrate optomechanical coupling between near-infrared optical modes and GHz mechanical modes with with 5-8 MHz linewidth and a coupling strength of GB = 1360 1/(W m). A Stokes gain of 1.5 dB, and anti-Stoke loss of -2 dB are observed for a 6 mm-long waveguide with 35.5 mW of input power. We show tuning of the mechanical frequency between 5 and 8 GHz by geometrical optimization, without loss of the optomechanical coupling strength.

We present the description, results, and analysis of the experiments conducted to find the equivalent resolution associated with handheld devices. That is, the resolution from which users stop perceiving quality improvements if better resolutions are presented to them in such devices. Thus, it is the maximum resolution that it is worth considering for generating and delivering video, as long as sequences are not too intensively compressed. Therefore, the detection of the equivalent resolutions allows for notable savings in bandwidth consumption. Subjective assessments have been carried out on fifty subjects using a set of video sequences of very different nature and four handheld devices with a broad range of screen dimensions. The results prove that the equivalent resolution in current handheld devices is 720p as higher resolutions are not valued by users.

Advanced g-TiAl based intermetallics Mo-bearing have been developed to obtain the fine-grained microstructure required for superplastic deformation to be used during further processing. In the present work we have studied an alloy of Ti-46Al-1Mo-0.2Si (at%) with two different microstructures, as-cast material with a coarse grain size above 300 mm, and the hot extruded material exhibiting a grain size smaller than 20 mm. We have used a mechanical spectrometer especially developed for high temperature internal friction measurements to study the defect mobility processes taking place at high temperature. The internal friction spectra at different frequencies has been studied and analyzed up to 1360 K in order to characterize the relaxation processes appearing in this temperature range. A relaxation peak, with a maximum in between 900 K and 1080 K, depending on the oscillating frequency, has been attributed to Ti-atoms diffusion by the stress-induced reorientation of Al-VTi-Al elastic dipoles. The high temperature background in both microstructural states, as-cast and extruded, has been analyzed, measuring the apparent activation parameters, in particular the apparent energies of Ecast(IF) 4.4 +- 0.05 eV and Eext(IF) 4.75 +- 0.05 eV respectively. These results have been compared to those obtained on the same materials by creep deformation. We may conclude that the activation parameters obtained by internal friction analysis, are consistent with the ones measured by creep. Furthermore, the analysis of the high temperature background allows establish the difference on creep resistance for both microstructural states

This work presents a simply methodology for coating small unilamellar liposomes bearing different degrees of positive charge with polyelectrolyte multilayers using the sequential Layer-by-Layer (LbL) deposition method. The liposomes were made of mixtures of DOPC (1,2-dioleyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocoline) and DODAB (dimethyl dioctadecyl ammonium bromide), and coated by alternated layers of the sodium salt of poly(4-styrenesulfonate), PSS, and poly(allylamine), PAH, as polyanion and polycations, respectively. The results shows that the zeta potential of the liposomes was not very sensitive to the mole fraction of DODAB in the membrane, XD, in the range 0.3< XD<0.8. We were able to coat the liposomes with up to four polymer bilayers. The growth of the capsules size was followed by dynamic light scattering, and in some cases by cryo-TEM, with good agreement between both techniques. The thickness of the layers, measured from the hydrodynamic radius of the coated liposome, depends on the polyelectrolyte used, so that the PSS layers adopt a much more packaged conformation than the PAH layers. An interesting finding is that the PSS amount needed to reach the isoelectric point of the capsules increases linearly with the charge density of the bare liposomes, whereas the amount of PAH does not depend on it. As expected, the preparation of the multilayers has to be done in such a way that when the system is close to the isoelectric point the capsules do not aggregate. For this, we dropped the polyelectrolyte solution quickly, fast stirring and using dilute liposome suspensions. CSS-T codes were recently introduced as quantum error-correcting codes that respect a transversal gate. A CSS-T code depends on a CSS-T pair, which is a pair of binary codes $(C_1, C_2)$ such that $C_1$ contains $C_2$, $C_2$ is even, and the shortening of the dual of $C_1$ with respect to the support of each codeword of $C_2$ is self-dual. In this paper, we give new conditions to guarantee that a pair of binary codes $(C_1, C_2)$ is a CSS-T pair. We define the poset of CSS-T pairs and determine the minimal and maximal elements of the poset. We provide a propagation rule for nondegenerate CSS-T codes. We apply some main results to Reed-Muller, cyclic, and extended cyclic codes. We characterize CSS-T pairs of cyclic codes in terms of the defining cyclotomic cosets. We find cyclic and extended cyclic codes to obtain quantum codes with better parameters than those in the literature.

Long quantum codes using projective Reed-Muller codes are constructed. Projective Reed-Muller codes are evaluation codes obtained by evaluating homogeneous polynomials at the projective space. We obtain asymmetric and symmetric quantum codes by using the CSS construction and the Hermitian construction, respectively. We provide entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes from projective Reed-Muller codes with flexible amounts of entanglement by considering equivalent codes. Moreover, we also construct quantum codes from subfield subcodes of projective Reed-Muller codes.

By solving a problem regarding polynomials in a quotient ring, we obtain the relative hull and the Hermitian hull of projective Reed-Muller codes over the projective plane. The dimension of the hull determines the minimum number of maximally entangled pairs required for the corresponding entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting code. Hence, by computing the dimension of the hull we now have all the parameters of the symmetric and asymmetric entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes constructed with projective Reed-Muller codes over the projective plane. As a byproduct, we also compute the dimension of the Hermitian hull for affine Reed-Muller codes in 2 variables.
