- Abstract
The mineralogy and mineral chemistry of carbonates from various hydrothermal deposits, including volcanic-hosted Au-Cu epithermal, “Chilean Manto-type” Cu(-Ag), stratabound Mn, and Ag-Ba vein deposits from Spain and Chile, were investigated. Dolomite-ankerite (±siderite) was found in variable amounts within the epithermal deposits and associated hydrothermal alteration, whereas calcite was found either within barren veins or disseminated within the regional alteration. Calcite is the major gangue phase within the stratabound deposits, which tend to lack dolomite/an-kerite and siderite. Carbonates precipitated from hydrothermal ore fluids are typically Mn-rich, up to 3.55 at. % in siderite, 2.27 at. % in dolomite/ankerite, and 1.92 at. % in calcite. In contrast, calcite related to very low-grade metamorphism or regional low-temperature alteration is Mn-poor but sometimes Mg-rich, possibly related to a higher temperature of formation. Chemical zonation was observed in the hydrothermal carbonates, although no unique pattern and chemical evolution was observed. This study suggests that the chemical composition of carbonates, especially the Mn con-tent, could be a useful vector within ore-forming hydrothermal systems, and therefore constitutes a possible tool in geochemical exploration. Furthermore, Mn-poor calcites detected in some deposits are suggested to be linked with a later episode, maybe suggesting a predominance of meteoric wa-ters, being not related to the main ore stage formation, thus avoiding misunderstanding of further isotopic studies.

Scene understanding of full-scale 3D models of an urban area remains a challenging task. While advanced computer vision techniques offer cost-effective approaches to analyse 3D urban elements, a precise and densely labelled dataset is quintessential. The paper presents the first-ever labelled dataset for a highly dense Aerial Laser Scanning (ALS) point cloud at city-scale. This work introduces a novel benchmark dataset that includes a manually annotated point cloud for over 260 million laser scanning points into 100'000 (approx.) assets from Dublin LiDAR point cloud [12] in 2015. Objects are labelled into 13 classes using hierarchical levels of detail from large (i.e., building, vegetation and ground) to refined (i.e., window, door and tree) elements. To validate the performance of our dataset, two different applications are showcased. Firstly, the labelled point cloud is employed for training Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to classify urban elements. The dataset is tested on the well-known state-of-the-art CNNs (i.e., PointNet, PointNet++ and So-Net). Secondly, the complete ALS dataset is applied as detailed ground truth for city-scale image-based 3D reconstruction., Comment: Accepted to the 30th British Machine Vision Conference

- Abstract
[Background/Aims]: Gastrointestinal adverse effects have a major impact on health and quality of life in analgesics users. Non-invasive methods to study gastrointestinal motility are of high interest. Fluoroscopy has been previously used to study gastrointestinal motility in small experimental animals, but they were generally anesthetized and anesthesia itself may alter motility. In this study, our aim is to determine, in conscious rats, the effect of increasing doses of 2 opioid (morphine and loperamide) and 1 cannabinoid (WIN 55,212-2) agonists on colonic motility using fluoroscopic recordings and spatio-temporal maps., [Methods]: Male Wistar rats received barium sulfate intragastrically, 20–22 hours before fluoroscopy, so that stained fecal pellets could be seen at the time of recording. Animals received an intraperitoneal administration of morphine, loperamide, or WIN 55,212-2 (at 0.1, 1, 5, or 10 mg/kg) or their corresponding vehicles (saline, Cremophor, and Tocrisolve, respectively), 30 minutes before fluoroscopy. Rats were conscious and placed within movement-restrainers for the length of fluoroscopic recordings (120 seconds). Spatio-temporal maps were built, and different parameters were analyzed from the fluoroscopic recordings in a blinded fashion to evaluate colonic propulsion of endogenous fecal pellets., [Results]: The analgesic drugs inhibited propulsion of endogenous fecal pellets in a dose-dependent manner., [Conclusions]: Fluoroscopy allows studying colonic propulsion of endogenous fecal pellets in conscious rats. Our method may be applied to the noninvasive study of the effect of different drug treatments and pathologies.

- Abstract
The risk assessment of pollution associated with metal extraction process is a social responsibility. The initial goal of this type of assessment should be the use of a methodology able to combine the use of easy application, low cost and high efficiency-techniques to provide the necessary information with the least amount of investment in time and money as possible. A suitable option maybe a combination of a simple, quick and reliable analytical technique such as PXRF with bioassays and chemometric tools like HCA, PCA or LDA as a viable approach to carrying out a preliminary estimation of phytotoxicity levels associated to the soil sampled in a metal-contaminated area. The method we propose has been shown to be a quick, economical and reliable tool for use in the first stages of environmental risk characterization in mining areas. Particularly, the use of root elongation (RE) as the classification criteria provides a viable approach for selecting the final samples (or zones) in which an “in-depth” investigation plan will be designed as part of a future remediation strategy.

- Abstract
[Background] Vincristine is a commonly used chemotherapeutic agent. It is associated with undesirable digestive side effects. However, the impact of vincristine on gastrointestinal structure and motility or its long-term effects have not been deeply studied in animal models. This could be useful in order to develop therapeutic or preventive strategies for cancer patients. The aim of this study was to analyze such effects., [Methods] Rats received saline or vincristine (0.1 mg kg-1 , ip) daily for 10 days. Evaluations were performed during treatment and 2-6 weeks after. Somatic mechano-sensitivity was assessed using von Frey hairs. Gastrointestinal motor function was studied by means of radiographic still images and colonic propulsion of fecal pellets using fluoroscopy videos. Histological assessment of the gut morphology and immunohistochemistry for HuC/D and nNOS were performed in whole-mount myenteric plexus preparations., [Key Results] Peripheral sensitivity was increased in animals treated with vincristine and did not subside 2 weeks after treatment finalization. Vincristine treatment inhibited gastrointestinal motility although this was recovered to normal values with time. Damage in the digestive wall after vincristine treatment was greater in the ileum than in the colon. Villi shortening (in ileum) and large inflammatory nodules still remained 2 weeks after treatment finalization. Finally, the proportion of nNOS-immunoreactive neurons was increased with vincristine and continued to be increased 2 weeks after treatment finalization., [Conclusions and Inferences] Vincristine alters gastrointestinal motility, peripheral sensitivity and mucosal architecture. Vincristine-induced neuropathy (somatic and enteric), intestinal mucosa damage and inflammatory infiltrations are relatively long-lasting.

Banks’ choices on their economic capital factor into the cost of funds and are key to the assessment of the social cost from higher equity capital ratios set by Basel III. We model the determinants of equity capital and the influence of its ratios on the interest rates of bank loans by using data from Spanish banks. The results show that a combination of valuemaximization choices and inertial earnings retentions determine equity capital and that the inertia component is more important to savings banks than to commercial banks. We also find that loans’ interest rates increase with equity capital and the increase is higher during the adjustment period than in the steady state.

- Abstract
[EN] The hydrodynamics of coastal river reaches is complex due to the interaction of several sources of flooding as the astronomical tide, surge, wave set-up and river discharge. The tidal level might affect several km of river reach. In those reaches, the same inundation water level can result from different combinations of the sea level ad river discharge. At the present time, most flood inundation studies in tidal river reaches are based in the application of an arbitrary sea level at the downstream river boundary, without considering the interaction and possible correlations between sea level and river discharge. In Spain, the Guía Metodológica para el Desarrollo del Sistema Nacional de Cartografía de Zonas Inundables (Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Medio Rural y Marino, 2011), recommends to consider the simultaneous occurrence of a sea level and river discharge associated to the same return period. This approach does not consider the probability of simultaneous occurrence of extreme sea level and river discharge. In order to improve this excessively simple and conservative approach, in this paper we propose a continuous simulation methodology that combines the generation of synthetic long-term time series of river discharge and sea level, 2D inundation modelling at a high spatial resolution and statistical sampling and interpolation techniques. The proposed methodology is applied to the coastal town of Betanzos (NW of Spain), which is classified as a high potential flood risk area by the regional authorities. The town is located at the confluence of two river reaches, in the inner part of Betanzos estuary. The inundation levels obtained with the proposed methodology are compared to those obtained with the standard methodology recommended by the Guía Metodológica para el Desarrollo del Sistema Nacional de Cartografía de Zonas Inundables (Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Medio Rural y Marino, 2011). Results show that the standard methodology overestimates in a sign, [ES] Las desembocaduras, estuarios y tramos de ríos costeros son elementos hidrodinámicamente complejos debido a la interacción de varias dinámicas generadoras de inundación como la marea astronómica, la marea meteorológica, el oleaje y el caudal del río, entre otras.

The combination of structural, geochemical and palaeotopographic data proves to be an efficient tool to understand fluid transfers in the crust. This study discriminates shallow and deep fluid reservoirs on both sides of the brittle-ductile transition under an extensional regime and points out the role of major transcurrent fault activity in this palaeohydrogeological setting. Palaeofluids trapped in quartz and siderite-barite veins record the transfer of fluids and metal solute species during the Neogene exhumation of the Sierra Almagrera metamorphic belt. Ductile then brittle-ductile extensional quartz veins formed from a deep fluid reservoir, trapping metamorphic secondary brines containing low-density volatile phases derived from the dissolution of Triassic evaporites. During exhumation, low-salinity fluids percolated within the brittle domain, as shown by transgranular fluid inclusion planes affecting previous veins. These observations indicate the opening of the system during Serravalian to early Tortonian times and provide evidence for the penetration of surficial fluids of meteoric or basinal origin into the upper part of the brittle-ductile transition. During exhumation, synsedimentary transcurrent tectonic processes occurred from late Tortonian times onwards, while marine conditions prevailed at the Earth's surface. At depth in the brittle domain, quartz veins associated with haematite record a return to high-salinity fluid circulation suggesting an upward transfer fed from a lower reservoir. During the Messinian, ongoing activity of the trans-Alboran tectono-volcanic trend led to the formation of ore deposits. Reducing fluids caused the formation of siderite and pyrite ores. The subsequent formation of galena and barite may be related to an increase of temperature. The high salinity and Cl/Br ratio of the fluids suggest another source of secondary brine derived from dissolved Messinian evaporites, as corroborated by the δ
34 S signature of barite. These evaporites preceded the main sea-level drop related to the peak of the salinity crisis (5.60-5.46 Ma). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

The problem addressed in this article is a te n ta tiv e explanation o f the coexistence of partially miscible "ncompatible" fluids in different primary inclusions of the same crystal (or group of crystals). It is based on a study of sphalerite crystals from Cerro del Toro, containing two groups of primary inclusions with fillings displaying contrasting compositions, respectively suggestive on one hand of a "Mississippi Valley type“(MVT) brine, and on the other hand of a metamorphic fluid. The interpretation is based on a comparison of the composition of both " primary " fluids and a tentative explanation involving partial metamorphic recrystallization, whose possible markers are solid inclusions of briartite (a Ge-rich mineral)

- Abstract
The stratabound fluorite deposit has recorded a succession of post-ore events, including a thermal culmination at about 320 degrees C related to circulation of complex fluids containing abundant H2S and CO2. The age of this event was probably late- to post-Miocene. The genesis of H2S+CO2 rich fluids possibly resulted from the reduction of sulphate by C-rich evolved organic matter at temperatures higher than 300 degrees C. The constraints for generating such fluids in sedimentary environments and for allowing their migration are: an elevated temperature, the presence of evolved organic matter and of evaporites or sulphate-bearing brines and the lack of reactive Fe or other metals on the circulation path of the fluids., The stratabound fluorite deposit has recorded a succession of post-ore events, including a thermal culmination at about 320 degrees C related to circulation of complex fluids containing abundant H2S and CO2. - Abstract
The three sulphide-bearing quartz veins come from three different geological settings: intensely migmatised banded gneisses on the edge of a granitic batholith; closely associated with a shallow, highly differentiated late Hercynian porphyritic leucogranite intrusion; and spatially related to a porphyritic monzogranite intrusion surrounded by heterogeneous leucogranite facies. Veins are structurally controlled and the three deposits consist of a set of subparallel veins. Fluid inclusion studies were carried out and discussion is presented of the relationships between hot complex carbonic-aqueous solutions and W-bearing mineralisation., The three sulphide-bearing quartz veins come from three different geological settings: intensely migmatised banded gneisses on the edge of a granitic batholith; closely associated with a shallow, highly differentiated late Hercynian porphyritic leucogranite intrusion; and spatially related to a porphyritic monzogranite intrusion surrounded by heterogeneous leucogranite facies. Vein-type Co-Ni-As-(Au) and Pb-Zn and/or Cu-Sb-Ag deposits are present in the area. Five types of mineral assemblages and compositions have been identified: Cu-Fe-Sb-As-Co-Ni, Cu-Pb-Zn-As-Ni-(Co), Cu-Pb-Zn, Pb-Zn-Cu-Sb-Ag and Sb-As-(Au). Fluid inclusion studies show that the salinity of mineralising fluids varied between different deposit types. There was also a wide range of homogenisation temperatures and solution densities. It is suggested that solutions circulated through fractures. Cooling, mixing and dilution of solutions due to the migration of hot deep fluids to upper levels, and interaction with host rocks were responsible for precipitation of metals., Vein-type Co-Ni-As-(Au) and Pb-Zn and/or Cu-Sb-Ag deposits are present in the area. DATOLITE ,AGRICULTURAL chemicals ,FLUID inclusions ,CALCITE - Abstract
Abstract: Datolite, ideally CaB[(OH/SiO
4 )], from hydrothermal veins crosscutting pillow basalt in 10 different localities of the Northern Apennine ophiolites was investigated with regard to mineral chemistry and fluid inclusion microthermometry. Bulk analyses of datolite crystals show REE contents below chondritic, except for La and Ce. With respect to host rock, datolite is occasionally enriched in La, Rb, Cs, Be, and shows relatively high contents of chalcophile elements (Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni) when occurring in contact with sulfide-mineralized basalt. Volatiles escaped during the decomposition in the temperature range 600 and 700°C. The main component is water. The temperature maximum of water release is different and frequently with a shoulder or a second maximum. Together with water, sulfur species as H2 S and SO2 and traces of boron species escaped. The CO2 release by the decomposition especially of datolite from Castellaro and Cinghi has a maximum in the range of 500–580°C and is different from the decomposition of calcite. Together with CO2 a boron species escaped. Chlorine does not detect. Two-phase (L+V) fluid inclusions texturally identifiable as primary and secondary were observed, yielding average homogenization-temperatures of 236 and 173°C, respectively. Fluid inclusion cooling data yield calculated salinity in the range of 10–16wt% NaCl equivalents, thus relatively higher compared with seawater. The results are compatible with those reported for fluids formed under diagenetic conditions, but differ from those observed in seafloor hydrothermal systems and/or emanating from magmas. Distribution of trace elements between datolite and host basalt indicates enrichment with respect to the host rock limited to a few elements such as La, Rb, Cs, Be, Ni, Cu, Zn and Pb. The lithophile elements can be hosted in the datolite lattice, whereas the chalcophile metals and Ni are probably carried in sub-microscopic inclusions. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]- Published
