6. How Ramsey theory can be used to solve Harary's problem for $K_{2,k}$

Abstract

Harary's conjecture $r(C_3,G)\leq 2q+1$ for every isolated-free graph G with $q$ edges was proved independently by Sidorenko and Goddard and Klietman. In this paper instead of $C_3$ we consider $K_{2,k}$ and seek a sharp upper bound for $r(K_{2,k},G)$ over all graphs $G$ with $q$ edges. More specifically if $q\geq 2$, we will show that $r(C_4,G)\leq kq+1$ and that equality holds if $G \cong qK_2$ or $K_3$. Using this we will generalize this result for $r(K_{2,k},G)$ when $k>2$. We will also show that for every graph $G$ with $q \geq 2$ edges and with no isolated vertices, $r(C_4, G) \leq 2p+ q - 2$ where $p=|V(G)|$ and that equality holds if $G \cong K_3$., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

8. Analytic normal forms and inverse problems for unfoldings of 2-dimensional saddle-nodes with analytic center manifold

Abstract

We give normal forms for generic k-dimensional parametric families $(Z_\varepsilon)_\varepsilon$ of germs of holomorphic vector fields near $0\in\mathbb{C}^2$ unfolding a saddle-node singularity $Z_0$, under the condition that there exists a family of invariant analytic curves unfolding the weak separatrix of $Z_0$. These normal forms provide a moduli space for these parametric families. In our former 2008 paper, a modulus of a family was given as the unfolding of the Martinet-Ramis modulus, but the realization part was missing. We solve the realization problem in that partial case and show the equivalence between the two presentations of the moduli space. Finally, we completely characterize the families which have a modulus depending analytically on the parameter. Abstract

This paper presents an evaluation of the consistency of an urban state-of-the-art hydrocarbon (HC) emission inventory. The evaluation was conducted through the comparison of this inventory with hourly HC measurements during two summer months in the centre of Marseille, on the Mediterranean French coast. Factors of under or overestimation could be calculated for each compound on the basis of a systematic HC to HC ratio analysis. These results, associated with a deep analysis of the speciation profiles, show that most of the common and highly concentrated hydrocarbons (such as butanes) are too much predominant in the emission speciation, while the heavy and less common species (branched alkanes, substituted aromatics) are under-represented in the inventory. The urban diffuse sources appear here as one critical point of the inventories. The disagreements were shown to have a strong incidence on the representation of the air mass reactivity. In a last step, the identified uncertainties in emissions were implemented in an air-quality model for sensitivity studies. It was shown that the observed biases in the inventory could affect the regional ozone production, with a probable impact on ozone peaks of 2-10 ppbv over the area. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd.

Abstract

International audience; Background Crohn's disease (CD) location would influence the risk of complications and therapeutic strategies. The objective of this study was to compare the clinical presentation at diagnosis and the natural history of colonic CD in comparison to ileal CD and ulcerative colitis (UC) in pediatric-onset inflammatory bowel disease. Methods All children (< 17 years) with a diagnosis of CD or UC made between 1988 and 2011 in a population-based registry were followed retrospectively until 2013. Presentation at diagnosis, risks of complicated disease, surgery, hospitalization and exposure to treatments in ileal CD (L1), colonic CD (L2) and UC were compared. Disease location was defined at diagnosis. In case of extension of the disease (L1 or L2 to L3), follow-up was censored. Results A total of 215 L1 patients, 234 L2 patients and 337 UC patients were included. At diagnosis, the proportion of males (L1 53.5%; L2 53.4%; UC 42.7%; p=0.012), age at diagnosis (15.0; 13.7; 14.0 years; p=0.003), family history of IBD (12.6%; 12.7%; 5.0%; p=0.005), diagnostic delay (3.0; 3.0; 2.0 months; p=0.001) and smoking prevalence (11.6%; 8.1%; 5.6%; p=0.041) were different between the three groups. Bloody stool and diarrhea at diagnosis was observed in respectively 14.9%, 44.4%, and 91.1% (p < 0.001) and 47.0%, 71.8%, and 65.0% (p < 0.001) of L1, L2 and UC.
