The Plan of Results and Budget (PORB) is a planning tool used with CGIAR’s Initiatives and Impact Platform Budgets to outline annual results based on estimated resources. It supports monitoring and reporting by detailing results from the Theory of Change, broken down by Work Packages and Implementing Centers, and linked to approved budgets, providing an overview of resources and timelines for achieving annual goals.

The growing demand for aquatic foods requires the sustainable intensification of aquaculture systems. However, policy and investment decisions for sustainable intensification of aquaculture systems are often hindered by a lack of benchmarking data related to performance of such systems. The fish agri-food system connects supplies of fish and other aquatic foods through multiple pathways and scales to diverse consumers across the planet and is a key component of the global agri-food systems. Fish and other aquatic foods contribute to the livelihoods of 800 million people and provide 20 percent of daily animal protein, as well as key micronutrients and essential fatty acids, for more than 3.1 billion people. A diverse array of fish and aquatic foods from ocean to inland waters contributes to many national economies and diets, particularly of low-income food-deficit countries, providing one of the most accessible and often most sustainable animal source foods. With nutrient deficits high and growing in many regions and as global demand for fish and other aquatic foods grow, so does the challenge of improving and sustaining the fish agri-food system to deliver healthy and nutritious food, positive social, economic and environmental outcomes, including those represented in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The CGIAR Research Program on Fish Agri-Food Systems (FISH) was launched in 2017. It was led by WorldFish together with its managing partners, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), the Aquaculture and Fisheries Group at Wageningen University & Research (WUR), the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University (JCU) and the Natural Resources Institute at University of Greenwich (NRI). FISH was designed as the main programmatic vehicle for WorldFish to achieve its 2017–2021 organizational strategy objectives, specifically to identify innovative solutions to contemporary food and nutrition challenges and contribute to more sustainable and resilient fish agri-food systems. FISH developed and adopted a theory of change and an integrated approach that addressed challenges for developing and managing sustainable aquaculture and small-scale fisheries in inland and coastal waters

The presentation focuses on the study implemented in Bangladesh to identify dissemination and catchment areas of the Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia (GIFT) in Bangladesh. In the study, we surveyed tilapia hatchers and farmers and showed that information provided by hatchers closely matched that provided by farmers. We demonstrate how “catchment areas” for an innovation disseminated over a long period of time, such as GIFT, can be identified and show that there exist enough tilapia farmers (both GIFT and non-GIFT) to allow an adequately powered impact evaluation for GIFT in Bangladesh. Our ability to validate the catchment areas for GIFT and non-GIFT farmers suggests the possibility to construct a counterfactual for evaluation of impacts of GIFT.

This report provides an assessment of the results of a five-year collaboration between WorldFish and the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department (F&ARD) that was intended to support implementation of the State Fishery Policy of Odisha. The assessment critically examines progress, achievements, and learning with the WorldFish cooperation, covering various dimensions of fisheries and aquaculture productivity. poverty alleviation, food security and nutrition, household resilience, and women’s empowerment.

Aquaculture plays a crucial role in Egypt’s economic development contributing substantially to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. However, contexts are increasingly changing and characterized by shifts in dietary needs, more integrated value chains, globalization, population dynamics, and climate change. An enhanced understanding of aquaculture’s performance under these rapidly changing contexts is necessary. Yet the ability to generate the required knowledge is often constrained by lack of accurate data about integrated on-farm performance of aquaculture systems. In efforts to address this gap, the current study is a collaboration between WorldFish and Sketting to assess the on-farm performance of tilapia aquaculture systems in Egypt. A detailed baseline survey was implemented in Kafr el Sheikh Governorate covering 402 tilapia aquaculture farm households. The baseline survey interviewed farm owners and managers. The information collected provides an important benchmark against which targeted interventions can be implemented and monitored to improve tilapia aquaculture production. Results show a tremendous increase in the number of tilapia aquaculture producers since 2014. We find significantly greater stocking densities (pieces/m2) in monoculture (3.9) than polyculture (3.4) systems. Although farmers practicing tilapia monoculture stock smaller-sized fingerlings compared to their polyculture counterparts, they reach the same harvest weight and obtain 20% higher yield than under polyculture. Results show that tilapia monoculture is 42% more profitable and 18% more cost-effective than polyculture systems. We do not find significant differences in productivity, profitability, and cost-effectiveness across different farm sizes. There is also a notable increase in the adoption of modern extruded feed. There is widespread belief that crowdfunding can successfully support charity operation by accelerating and simplifying the process of finding large pools of funders. Analysing a unique dataset of donations collected in Italy through crowdfunding in 2016, we identify contextual factors that hamper online donations. Specifically, looking at the role of digital divide, digital literacy, and social network interactions, our study extends the existing literature on charity crowdfunding. Implications are discussed in both theoretical and practical terms on the modes of engagement of online communities and on possible tactics to overcome donations barriers.

We present preliminary results of aquaculture performance assessment in Egypt. The study was conducted between September and December 2019 interviewing 402 farmers.

The present study builds on diffusion of innovation (DOI) and institutional theories to address the current lack of cross-national studies on e-HRM adoption and usage. The core research question asks about the factors influencing e-HRM adoption and usage for HRM. We analysed direct effects related to country, organizational and HRM factors among 3815 organizations in 21 countries in a multilevel approach. The results largely supported the hypotheses. Specifically, national systems supporting innovative behaviours determine the extent of e-HRM adoption. The economic sector of activity, size, global competition and educational level were associated with e-HRM adoption and usage at the organizational level. Moreover, a strategic orientation of the HR function seems to be a prerequisite for e-HRM adoption and usage. The theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Outsourcing is a managerial procedure whose success needs clarification regarding the long-term relationship between customer and supplier. The authors’ aim is to examine simultaneously the client’s and supplier’s perspectives through the psychological contract that, by assimilating the contents of the legal contract, focuses on (1) the implicit (not formalized) and reciprocal (mutual) duties between the two parties, (2) the equivalence of psychological obligations and contractual values and (3) the importance of the individual commitment level. While the legal contract is managed and based on an organizational level, the psychological contract is individual and perceived as such: from the authors’ point of view, all workers, regardless of whether they work inside or outside the company, are part of the psychological contract. The authors employ a case study represented by an outsourcing centre belonging to a group of Italian banks, using the “qualitative and quantitative” mixed method. In the first phase, a series of interviews will help identify the key variables to develop a questionnaire for both customers and suppliers. The second phase will comprise the interviews and questionnaire formalization. The two themes, the psychological contract on the one hand and the outsourcing governance on the other hand, represent a highly relevant matter that has received scant attention in the literature.
