Abstract

Experimental angular distributions for the 7 Li + 120 Sn elastic and inelastic (projectile and target excitations) scattering, and for the neutron stripping reaction, have been obtained at E LAB = 20, 22, 24, and 26 MeV, covering an energy range around the Coulomb barrier ( V (LAB) B ≈ 21 . 4 MeV). Coupled channel and coupled reaction channel calculations were performed and both describe satisfactorily the experimental data sets. The 1 2 − state 7 Li inelastic excitation (using a rotational model), as well as the projectile coupling to the continuum ( α plus a tritium particle) play a fundamental role on the proper description of elastic, inelastic, and transfer channels. Couplings to the one-neutron stripping channel do not significantly affect the theoretical elastic scattering angular distributions. The spectroscopic amplitudes of the transfer channel were obtained through a shell model calculation. The theoretical angular distributions for the one-neutron stripping reaction agreed with the experimental data.

Abstract

International audience; An elastic backscattering experiment has been performed at energies below the Coulomb barrier to investigate static and dynamic effects in the interaction of He6 with Bi209. The measured cross sections are presented in terms of the dσ/dσRuth ratio, as a function of the distance of closest approach on a Rutherford trajectory. The data are compared with a three-body CDCC calculation and good agreement is observed. In addition, the critical distance of interaction was extracted. A larger value was obtained for the exotic He6 nucleus as compared with the weakly bound Li6 and Be9 nuclei and the tightly bound He4, C12, and O16 nuclei.

Abstract

The inelastic, two-neutron and α transfer and quasielastic cross sections for the 18O+110Pd system have been measured in the near barrier region (40 MeV Elab 58 MeV). The experiments were performed in the S˜ao Paulo Pelletron laboratory. Coupled-channel analysis of the experimental data was performed using the S˜ao Paulo potential as a microscopic bare interaction. In the calculations, low-lying inelastic excitations, one- and two-neutron and α transfers to the target were considered as the main couplings, with no extra surface absorption. The agreement between the theoretical results and the experimental data is good. The role played by the coupled channels is very different in comparison with similar data analyses for the closed-shell region around 58Ni.

The corresponding nuclear potential was compared with earlier results of systems like A158Ni. The present data also allowed the determination of the 28Si nuclear density through an unfolding method. The experimentally extracted 28Si density values are compared with those previously obtained for the 4,6He, 12C, 16,18O nuclei. We present a critical discussion of the absolute precision obtained for the density parameters extracted from the data analyses.

Abstract

Fusion cross sections were measured for the exotic proton-halo nucleus ⁸B incident on a ⁵⁸Ni target at several energies near the Coulomb barrier. This is the first experiment to report on the fusion of a proton-halo nucleus. The resulting excitation function shows a striking enhancement with respect to expectations for normal projectiles. Evidence is presented that the sum of the fusion and breakup yields saturates the total reaction cross section.

Abstract

We have developed a model for the nuclear interaction which is based on the effects of the Pauli nonlocality. In earlier works, we have successfully used this interaction to describe the elastic scattering for several systems in a very wide energy range. In the present work, we have checked the validity of the same interaction in the description of about 2500 fusion cross section data for 165 different systems. By introducing only one energyand system-independent effective parameter, the nonlocal model describes the global behavior of the fusion process with good precision.

An unfolding method is proposed to extract ground-state nuclear matter densities from heavy-ion elastic scattering data analyses at low (sub-barrier) and intermediate energies. The consistency of the results is fully checked. The method should be of value in determining densities for exotic nuclei.

Abstract

Extensive systematizations of theoretical and experimental nuclear densities and of optical potential strengths extracted from heavy-ion elastic scattering data analyses at low and intermediate energies are presented. The energy dependence of the nuclear potential is accounted for within a model based on the nonlocal nature of the interaction. The systematics indicates that the heavy-ion nuclear potential can be described in a simple global way through a double-folding shape, which basically depends only on the density of nucleons of the partners in the collision. The possibility of extracting information about the nucleon-nucleon interaction from the heavy-ion potential is investigated.

Abstract

In this work we present optical model analysis of new near barrier-quasi-elastic experimental data, for the systems 6,7Li+120Sn. From the analysis it was possible to extract the ground state nucleon densities of the weakly bound 6,7Li isotopes. The apparent discrepancies between the experimental densities, as compared with those based on Dirac-Hartree-Fock-Bouguliubov (DHB) calculations were removed, considering in the reaction mechanism, the projectile break-up and a positive polarization from couplings of 6,7Li states of the continuum. Abstract

Fusion cross sections were measured for the exotic proton-halo nucleus ⁸B incident on a ⁵⁸Ni target at several energies near the Coulomb barrier. This is the first experiment to report on the fusion of a proton-halo nucleus. The resulting excitation function shows a striking enhancement with respect to expectations for normal projectiles. Evidence is presented that the sum of the fusion and breakup yields saturates the total reaction cross section., (© 2011 American Physical Society)
