The objective of this work was to determine the general and specific combining ability (GCA and SCA, respectively) of six soybean (Glycine max) parents, in order to identify the promising ones and their best combinations for the development of superior lines for earliness and grain yield, as well as the best evaluation season. Six parents and their 15 hybrids were evaluated in a randomized complete block design, during the 2014 winter and 2015/2016 summer, in a greenhouse. The data obtained for number of days to flowering, cycle, and grain yield were analyzed by Griffing’s method 2, model 1. Contrasting results were obtained for the two seasons, with a shorter cycle and a higher yield in the summer. The highest GCA for cycle is observed for the 'MSOY6101' and 'MSOY9144RR' parents, with negative and positive signs, respectively. 'TMG123RR' shows the highest GCA for grain yield. The highest SCA for days to flowering and cycle is associated with the 'SYN9078RR' × 'MSOY9144RR' and 'TMG123RR' × 'MSOY9144RR' crosses, respectively. However, the highest SCA for grain yield is observed for 'MSOY6101' × 'MSOY9144RR', with a positive value, and for 'TMG801' × 'MSOY9144RR', with a negative value, during the summer.

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico O melhoramento de soja no Brasil não levou em consideração as avaliações de ampliação ou redução da diversidade genética. Ao longo dos anos, o processo de melhoramento da soja pode causar redução da variabilidade genética pelo estreitamento da base genética da cultura. O estudo da diversidade genética, além de ser importante para fins de melhoramento pode ser empregado para avaliação e identificação de descritores adicionais em soja. Essa avaliação é importante para facilitar o processo de distinguibilidade de cultivares, uma vez que os descritores, atualmente em uso, estão se tornando insuficientes para diferenciar as cultivares de soja. Além disso, o estudo da relação entre caracteres pode tornar o processo de seleção mais rápido e eficaz quando pratica-se seleção indireta via caracteres de fácil mensuração que sejam correlacionados com a produção de grãos, a qual é um caráter quantitativo, controlado por muitos genes e com alta influência ambiental. Assim, os objetivos desses estudos foram: I) quantificar a diversidade genética de cultivares de soja de diferentes regiões de adaptação do Brasil e identificar descritores adicionais em soja; II) quantificar a diversidade genética de cultivares de soja por meio de marcadores microssatélites, e verificar se as análises moleculares podem substituir ou complementar as análises fenotípicas na diferenciação das cultivares de soja; III) verificar os efeitos diretos e indiretos de componentes primários e caracteres secundários sobre a produção de grãos em cultivares de soja. Os resultados do primeiro estudo mostraram que os descritores quantitativos agruparam as cultivares por região de adaptação, e os métodos UPGMA, Tocher e projeção gráfica foram concordantes nos agrupamentos nas três épocas de semeadura. O descritor quantitativo número de dias para o florescimento foi o mais importante para a diversidade em outubro de 2013 e abril de 2014, enquanto, em outubro de 2014 foi a altura de planta em R1. Quanto ao descritores qualitativos, o método de Tocher formou mais grupos que o UPGMA nas três épocas de semeadura, diferenciando mais as cultivares. Em todas as épocas houve maior dissimiliaridade dentro de cada região de adaptação. O descritor qualitativo linearidade da haste principal no terço superior foi importante para a diferenciação das cultivares em outubro de 2013 e em abril de 2014, enquanto, a densidade de pilosidade entre nervuras na parte abaxial do folíolo contribuiu para a diferenciação das cultivares em outubro de 2014. Os resultados dos segundo estudo demonstraram que o par de cultivares BRS Tracajá x M 9144 RR foi o mais similar para os marcadores estudados, enquanto, o par DM 6260 RSF IPRO x M 9144 RR foi o mais dissimilar, visto que as cultivares são de regiões de adaptação distintas (Sul e Centro-Oeste). Os métodos de Tocher, UPGMA e projeção bidimensional foram concordantes no agrupamento das cultivares. As cultivares da Monsanto ficaram alocadas em todos os grupos, exceto o grupo 4 do Tocher e dos grupos 5 e 6 do UPGMA. Esses resultados indicam que há variabilidade disponível dentro deste programa de melhoramento para a região Centro-Oeste. As cultivares da Embrapa, Nidera, Dom Mario, DuPont Pioneer ficaram em grupos separados, tanto pelo agrupamento de Tocher como pelo UPGMA. Portanto, há variabilidade entre esses programas de melhoramento. As correlações entre matrizes de distância de dados moleculares e fenotípicos foram de baixa magnitude. Os coeficientes de correlação variaram de r=-0,02 a r= 0,31, portanto, sugere-se que as análises moleculares não substituem as avaliações fenotípicas. Os resultados do terceiro estudo evidenciaram que componente primário peso médio do grão é indicado para seleção indireta para produtividade de grãos de soja, independente da época de semeadura; o componente primário número de vagens por planta foi eficiente para a seleção indireta para a produtividade de grãos na semeadura de abril; o caráter secundário ciclo é indicado para a seleção indireta para produtividade de grãos de soja na semeadura de outubro; os caracteres secundários altura de planta na maturação e período vegetativo são indicados para a seleção indireta para produtividade de grãos de soja na semeadura de abril. Soybean breeding in Brazil did not take into account the assessments of magnification or reduction of genetic diversity. Over the years, the soybean breeding process can reduce genetic variability by narrowing the crop‘s genetic basis. The study of genetic diversity, besides being important for breeding purposes, can be used to evaluate and identify additional soybean descriptors. This evaluation is important to facilitate the process of distinguishing cultivars, since the descriptors currently in use are becoming insufficient to differentiate soybean cultivars. In addition, the study of the relationship between characters can make the selection process faster and more efficient when indirect selection is practiced via easily measured characters that are correlated with grain yield, which is a quantitative character, controlled by many genes and with high environmental influence. Thus, the objectives of these studies were: I) to quantify the genetic diversity of soybean cultivars from different adaptation regions of Brazil and to identify additional soybean descriptors; II) to quantify the genetic diversity of soybean cultivars by microsatellite markers, and to verify if the molecular analyzes can substitute or complement the phenotypic analyzes in the differentiation of soybean cultivars; III) to verify the direct and indirect effects of primary components and secondary characters on the yield in soybean cultivars. The results of the first study showed that the quantitative descriptors grouped the cultivars by adaptation region, and the UPGMA, Tocher and graphic projection methods were concordant in the groupings at the three sowing seasons. The quantitative descriptor number of days for flowering was the most important for diversity in October 2013 and April 2014, while the plant height at R1 in October 2014 was the most importante to. For the qualitative descriptors, the Tocher method formed more groups than the UPGMA in the three sowing seasons, differentiating more the cultivars. In all sowing seasons there was greater dissimilarity within each region of adaptation. The qualitative descriptor linearity of the main stem in the upper third was important for the cultivar differentiation in October 2013 and April 2014, while the density of pilosity between veins in the abaxial part of the leaflet contributed to the differentiation of the cultivars in October 2014. The results of the second study showed that the pair of cultivars BRS Tracajá x M 9144 RR was the most similar for the studied markers, while the pair DM 6260 RSF IPRO x M 9144 RR was the most dissimilar, since the cultivars are from different regions of adaptation (South and Central West). The Tocher, UPGMA and two-dimensional projection methods were concordant in the grouping of the cultivars. Monsanto’s cultivars were allocated to all groups, except group 4 of the Tocher and groups 5 and 6 of the UPGMA. These results indicate that there is variability available within this breeding program for the Midwest region. The cultivars from Embrapa, Nidera, Dom Mario and DuPont Pioneer were kept in separate groups, both by the Tocher and UPGMA methods. Therefore, there is variability between these breeding programs. The correlations between molecular and phenotypic data distance matrices were of low magnitude. The correlation coefficients ranged from r = -0.02 to r = 0.31, so it is suggested that molecular analyzes do not replace phenotypic evaluations. The results of the third study showed that: the primary component mean weight of grain is indicated for indirect selection for grain yield of soybean, independent of the growing season; the primary component number of pods per plant is indicated for indirect selection for grain yield at sowing in April; the secondary character cycle is indicated for the indirect selection for soybean grain yield at the sowing in October; the secondary characters plant height at maturation and vegetative period are indicated for the indirect selection for soybean grain yield at sowing in April.

Selection for grain yield, combined with phenological and morphological characteristics of agricultural interest, represents technological advances in the common bean. The objectives of this work were to estimate genetic parameters and the efficiency of both the Pedigree and Single-Seed Descent (SSD) methods for progression segregating populations in order to obtain common bean lines superior in grain yield, precocity and plant architecture. To do this, 136 inbred lines obtained using the Pedigree method, and 136 inbred lines obtained by SSD method were evaluated in a 17 x 17 simple lattice design, integrating the 272 inbred lines in the F7 generation and 17 cultivars as control. Estimates of moderate narrow sense heritability were obtained for grain yield, lodging and insertion of the first pod. The cycle and general adaptation note showed low heritability for the F7 generation. The Pedigree method allows obtaining a greater number of lines of high grain yield, early cycle and a lower general adaptation note (best adaptability). Selection using the Single-Seed Descent method allows the identification of a larger number of lines with lower notes for lodging and higher insertion of the first pod. A seleção para a produtividade de grãos, combinada com caracteres fenológicos e morfológicos de interesse agrícola, representa avanços tecnológicos para o feijão. Os objetivos desse trabalho foram avaliar parâmetros genéticos e a eficiência dos métodos de condução de populações segregantes Genealógico e Descendência de uma Única Semente (SSD) na obtenção de linhagens de feijão superiores para a produtividade de grãos, a precocidade e a arquitetura de plantas. Para tanto, foram avaliadas 136 linhagens obtidas pelo método Genealógico e 136 linhagens obtidas pelo método SSD em delineamento látice simples 17 x 17, integrando as 272 linhagens em geração F7 e as 17 cultivares testemunhas. Estimativas de herdabilidade em sentido restrito moderada foram obtidas para a produtividade de grãos, o acamamento e a altura de inserção da primeira vagem. O ciclo e a nota geral de adaptação apresentaram herdabilidade baixa em geração F7. O método Genealógico permite a obtenção de maior número de linhagens com alta produtividade de grãos, de ciclo precoce e de menor nota geral de adaptação (melhor adaptação). A seleção pelo método Descendência de uma Única Semente possibilita a identificação de maior número de linhagens com menores notas de acamamento e com maior altura de inserção da primeira vagem.

The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is an important source of copper in human nutrition. The objective of this research was to investigate the possible maternal effects on copper concentrations in the seeds of the common bean, to estimate the heritability and the selection gains in early hybrid generations for the characteristic of copper concentration and to evaluate the potential for genetic improvement. The controlled crossings were performed among IAPAR 44 x IAPAR 31 and Diamante Negro x TPS Bonito cultivars. The reciprocal F1, and F2 generations, as well as the backcross populations, were produced by each hybrid combination. The range of variation in the copper concentration among the tested progenies was from 1.07 to 7.75 mg kg-1 dry matter, and no significant maternal effect was discovered. A narrow-sense heritability was of an intermediate (51.98%) to high (61.99%) value. A 46.78% increase in the copper concentration was obtained in the seeds using only the four parents tested in this study. O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar a existência de efeito materno para a concentração de cobre em sementes de feijão comum, estimar a herdabilidade e os ganhos na seleção em gerações precoces para o caráter concentração de cobre e avaliar o potencial para o melhoramento genético. Os cruzamentos controlados foram realizados entre as cultivares IAPAR 44 x IAPAR 31 e Diamante Negro x TPS Bonito. As gerações F1, F1 recíproco, F2 e F2 recíproco, bem como as populações de retrocruzamentos foram obtidas para cada combinação híbrida. A faixa de variação da concentração de cobre entre as progênies testadas foi de 1,07 a 7,75 mg kg-1 de matéria seca, e nenhum efeito materno significativo foi detectado. A herdabilidade em sentido restrito foi de intermediária (51,98%) a alta (61,99%). Um incremento de 46,78% foi obtido para a concentração de cobre nas sementes utilizando os quatro parentais testados nesse trabalho.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior There are two early-maturing common bean cultivars registered for cultivation in the Rio Grande do Sul State. Thus, there is demand for cultivars for early harvest to improve the management of crop fields, ensure the best selling price to producer and, also, allow the second season harvest before the frost period. Thus, the aims of this research were to study the genetic of the flowering, reproductive period and cycle in common bean. For this, were obtained the F1 and F2 generations to Iraí x BRS Esplendor and Iraí x IPR Tangará hybrid combinations. The parents and the F1 and F2 generations were sown in the field and, evaluated for flowering, reproductive period and cycle. The flowering showed broad sense heritability estimates of intermediate (h2a: 44.87%) to high (h2a: 61.38%) magnitude and the highest selection gains. The reproductive period showed broad sense heritability estimates ranging from low (h2a: 22.94%) to intermediate (h2a: 59.20%) values and, selection gains lower than those obtained with the flowering. To the character cycle were obtained broad sense heritability estimates of intermediate (h2a: 45.38%) to high (h2a: 62.93%) magnitude and, selection gains intermediate to those obtained to flowering and to reproductive period. Thus, the flowering is the character more efficient to the selection of common bean lines of the early cycle. Existem duas cultivares de feijão de ciclo precoce registradas para o cultivo no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Portanto, há demanda por cultivares de colheita antecipada para melhorar o manejo das áreas de cultivo, garantir ao produtor melhor preço de venda e, ainda, na safrinha possibilitar a colheita antes do período de geadas. Assim, foram objetivos desse trabalho, estudar a genética do florescimento, do período reprodutivo e do ciclo em feijão. Para isso, foram obtidas as gerações F1 e F2 para as combinações híbridas Iraí x BRS Esplendor e Iraí x IPR Tangará. Os parentais e as gerações F1 e F2 obtidas foram semeados a campo e, avaliados quanto ao florescimento, o período reprodutivo e o ciclo. O florescimento apresentou estimativas de herdabilidade em sentido amplo de intermediária (h2a: 44,87%) a alta (h2a: 61,38%) magnitude e os maiores ganhos com a seleção. O período reprodutivo apresentou estimativas de herdabilidade em sentido amplo variando de baixa (h2a: 22,94%) a intermediária (h2a: 59,20%) magnitude e ganhos com a seleção menores do que os obtidos com o florescimento. Para o para o caráter ciclo foram obtidas estimativas de herdabilidade em sentido amplo de intermediária (h2a: 45,38%) a alta (h2a: 62,93%) magnitude e ganhos com a seleção intermediários aos obtidos para o florescimento e para o período reprodutivo. Assim, o florescimento é o caráter mais eficiente para a seleção de linhagens de feijão de ciclo precoce.
