Recoil imaging entails the detection of spatially resolved ionization tracks generated by particle interactions. This is a highly sought-after capability in many classes of detector, with broad applications across particle and astroparticle physics. However, at low energies, where ionization signatures are small in size, recoil imaging only seems to be a practical goal for micro-pattern gas detectors. This white paper outlines the physics case for recoil imaging, and puts forward a decadal plan to advance towards the directional detection of low-energy recoils with sensitivity and resolution close to fundamental performance limits. The science case covered includes: the discovery of dark matter into the neutrino fog, directional detection of sub-MeV solar neutrinos, the precision study of coherent-elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering, the detection of solar axions, the measurement of the Migdal effect, X-ray polarimetry, and several other applied physics goals. We also outline the R&D programs necessary to test concepts that are crucial to advance detector performance towards their fundamental limit: single primary electron sensitivity with full 3D spatial resolution at the $\sim$100 micron-scale. These advancements include: the use of negative ion drift, electron counting with high-definition electronic readout, time projection chambers with optical readout, and the possibility for nuclear recoil tracking in high-density gases such as argon. We also discuss the readout and electronics systems needed to scale-up such detectors to the ton-scale and beyond.

Os quistos do mesentério são tumores intra-abdominais benignos raros. Podem manifestar-se em qualquer faixa etária, no entanto, cerca de 33% manifestam-se em crianças com menos de 15 anos. Na maioria dos casos são assintomáticos e o seu diagnóstico, frequentemente, é um achado incidental. Embora a etiologia dos quistos seja desconhecida, várias são as teorias propostas para explicar a sua formação. O tratamento é cirúrgico e consiste na excisão completa do quisto. Introduccion. La biopsia muscular es un examen importante en la investigacion de enfermedades neuromusculares, aunque su rendimiento diagnostico puede ser decepcionante. Objetivo. Analizar el rendimiento diagnostico de las biopsias musculares en la poblacion pediatrica. Pacientes y metodos. Se analizo retrospectivamente una base de datos de un laboratorio terciario de neuropatologia para identificar a pacientes (mayores de 18 anos) sometidos a biopsia muscular entre enero de 2015 y agosto de 2019. Se evaluaron los datos demograficos, la presentacion clinica, el diagnostico, el tratamiento y el seguimiento. Resultados. Se incluyo a 106 pacientes, de los que el 52,8% (n = 56) eran varones. La mediana de edad fue de 6 anos (rango intercuartilico: 10 anos). Los pacientes se dividieron en ocho grupos, segun sospecha diagnostica clinica: miopatias mitocondriales (n = 29), miopatias congenitas (n = 9), miopatias inflamatorias (n = 8), distrofias musculares (n = 7), valores elevados de creatincinasa en el suero (n = 7), miopatias metabolicas (n = 5), otros sintomas neuromusculares (n = 30) y multiples sospechas clinicas (n = 11). La biopsia fue normal en 50 pacientes. De los restantes, 27 mostraron caracteristicas diagnosticas especificas, y el 88,9% (n = 24) permitio un diagnostico definitivo: distrofias musculares (n = 7), miopatias metabolicas (n = 5), miopatias congenitas (n = 4), miopatias inflamatorias (n = 4), miopatias mitocondriales (n = 3) y atrofia muscular espinal (n = 1). La histologia llevo a un cambio de tratamiento en cuatro pacientes. La mediana de seguimiento fue de un ano (rango intercuartilico: 2 anos). Conclusiones. El rendimiento diagnostico de biopsia fue del 22,6% y fue util en la orientacion diagnostica o terapeutica en el 35,8%. Las tecnicas moleculares llevaron a una disminucion de las indicaciones de biopsia muscular, pero esta sigue siendo una herramienta importante para el diagnostico de enfermedades neuromusculares.

Engaging critically with literature on mimesis, colonialism, and the state in anthropology and history, this introduction argues for an approach to mimesis and imitation as constitutive of the state and its forms of rule and governmentality in the context of late European colonialism. It explores how the colonial state attempted to administer, control, and integrate its indigenous subjects through mimetic policies of governance, while examining how indigenous polities adopted imita-tive practices in order to establish reciprocal ties with, or to resist the presence of, the colonial state. In introducing this special issue, three main themes will be addressed: mimesis as a strategic policy of colonial government, as an object of colonial regulation, and, finally, as a cre-ative indigenous appropriation of external forms of state power.

A tularémia é uma zoonose causada pela bactéria Francisella tularensis, que se transmite ao homem por contacto directo com animais infectados, artrópodes, ar, água ou alimentos contaminados. Apesar de ser pouco frequente na Europa, têm sido notificados surtos recentes (Espanha,França,Escandinávia,Balcãs e Hungria) e casos esporádicos (Áustria,Itália e Reino Unido). Em Portugal, F. tularensis subsp. holarctica foi detectada pela primeira vez em 2007. A F. tularensis pode infetar o homem através da pele, inalação, mucosas e via gastrointestinal. O estabelecimento desta infeção depende da porta de entrada e do número de organismos. This study aimed to determine the lethal concentration and the structural and ultra-structural effects caused by the formalin exposure on juveniles of Arapaima gigas. Ninety fish (60.1± 2.5g and 20.2±0.9cm) were exposed to 0, 22, 44, 66, 88 and 110mg L-1 in order to determine the lethal concentration (LC50-96h) that was 36.4mg L-1 of formalin. Sublethal effects were evaluated using histopathological analysis on the gills and assessment of behavioral alterations and clinical signs. The LC50 of formalin for 24, 48 and 72h was 88.3, 64.7 and 56.8mg L-1 respectively. Clinical signs and behavioral changes were found: erratic swimming, lethargy, crowding on the water surface, loss of hydrodynamic equilibrium, spasms and agonistic confrontation, which were observed only at 88 and 110mg L-1.
