Abstract

Boat shows are not always seamless, polished events despite careful planning and preparation, as they can be plagued by misfortunes. The show manager for the San Francisco Sports & Boat Show in San Francisco, CA, since 1949 recounts some humorous and nerve-wracking occurrences at these shows, which can turn into mini-disasters. One memorable experience involved Admiral Chester Nimitz's wife Catherine, who was asked to hit a bottle of champagne against the bow of the yacht 'Queen of Show.' The christening bottle refused to break despite numerous attempts, causing damage to the bow.
