Abstract

Orientation: The effective and timely bankruptcy prediction is crucial to the survival of companies. In order to attain a desired result an effective bankruptcy prediction tool needs to be applied within a South African context. Research purpose: The aim of this study was to determine whether bankruptcy could have been predicted within the 5 years prior to failure for the study period between 2016 and 2018. Motivation for the study: Most of the bankruptcy prediction studies in South Africa are industry- or sector-based, not many studies are found to be generic, easy to use and apply, and thus one model is applied for different industries or sectors. Research approach/design and method: From the population, the total sample consists of five companies within four different sectors, such as industrial, construction, retail, and personal and household sectors. Financial indicators (financial ratios) were obtained for both the BPIA and EMS from the INET (a South African supplier of quality financial data) McGregor BFA database, a JSE portal. A mixed-method research approach was applied by making use of a qualitative and quantitative methodology. Main findings: The findings revealed that the BPIA is an effective and reliable analytical tool to predict or detect the bankruptcy of South African companies. Practical/managerial implications: Based on the finding of the study companies within diverse industries should apply the BPIA regularly and take remedial action significantly to improve their financial well-being. Contribution/value add: The study has identified the BPIA has a better prediction accuracy than the renowned EMS model in South African context.

Abstract

Organization should manage information just as like as it manages its other resources correctly to fully maximize the usefulness of information especially in the field of healthcare. The use of software model to create information systems made it possible. To support the healthcare of the community, the appearance of Rural Health Unit is much needed. This study will discuss the problems encountered by the health professionals and health workers of Rural Health Unit in the Province of Alaminos, Laguna on the existing manual processes of storing and retrieving of patients’ data that are mainly used in assessing the public health of the community. With this situation, the researchers developed a Clinical Healthcare Management Information System for public health. This paper will also focus on the development of the system using Agile model and evaluation adapted from ISO 25010 to test its effectiveness.

Abstract

The World Wide Web has boosted its content for the past years, it has a vast amount of multimedia resources that continuously grow specifically in documentary data. One of the major contributors of documentary contents can be evidently found on the social media called Facebook. People or netizens on Facebook are actively sharing their opinion about a certain topic or posts that can be related to them or not. With the huge amount of accessible documentary data that are seen on the so-called social media, there are research trends that can be made by the researchers in the field of opinion mining. A netizen’s comment on a particular post can either be a negative or a positive one. This study will discuss the opinion or comment of a netizen whether it is positive or negative or how she/he feels about a specific topic posted on Facebook; this is can be measured by the use of Sentiment Analysis. The combination of the Natural Language Processing and the analytics in textual form is also known as Sentiment Analysis that is use to the extraction of data in a useful manner. This study will be based on the product reviews of Filipinos in Filipino, English and Taglish (mixed Filipino and English) languages. Abstract

The etiology of takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC)—a rare, reversible, and acquired form of cardiac diseases—is not yet fully explained. An exaggerated activation of the sympathetic-nervous-system (SNS) following stressful psychosocial life events is discussed to be of key importance. In this experimental study, we tested whether TTC patients, compared to heart-healthy controls, respond more strongly to supporting placebo interventions and stressful nocebo interventions targeting cardiac function. In a single experimental session, 20 female TTC patients and 20 age matched (mean age 61.5 years, ± 12.89) catheter-confirmed heart-healthy women were examined. Saline solution was administered three times i.v. to all participants, with the verbal suggestion they receive an inert substance with no effects on the heart (neutral condition), a drug that would support cardiac functions (positive condition), and a drug that would burden the heart (negative condition). Systolic and diastolic blood pressure (DBP/SBP), heart rate (HR), endocrine markers cortisol (µg/dl), copeptin (pmol/l), and subjective stress ratings (SUD) were assessed to examine alterations of the SNS and the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis (HPA). Before and after each intervention SUD was rated. One pre and three post serum cortisol and copeptin samples were assessed, and a long-term electrocardiogram as well as non-invasive, continuous blood pressure was recorded. The study design elucidated a significant increase of SUD levels as a response to the nocebo intervention, while perceived stress remained unaffected during the preceding neutral and positive interventions. Increasing SUD levels were accompanied by higher SBP and an anticipatory increase of HR shortly prior to the nocebo intervention. SBP increased also as a response to positive verbal suggestions (Bonferroni-corrected p-values >.05). Alterations of cortisol and copeptin due to the interventions and significant placebo effects failed to appear. Interestingly no differences between TCC patients and controls could be found.These findings do not support the assumption of an exaggerated activation of the SNS as a discriminatory factor for TTC. Since especially the nocebo intervention revealed negative subjective and objective effects, our results underscore the urgent need to consider carefully the impact of verbal suggestions in the interaction with cardiac patients in daily clinical routine. Abstract

Psychosocial factors in cardiovascular diseases are increasingly acknowledged by patients, healthcare providers and payer organizations. Due to the rapidly increasing body of evidence the German Society for Cardiology commissioned an update of its 2013 position paper on this topic. This position paper provides a synopsis of the state of knowledge regarding psychosocial factors in the most relevant cardiovascular diseases and gives recommendations with respect to their consideration in clinical practice. Psychosocial factors such as low socioeconomic status, acute and chronic stress, depression, anxiety and lack of social support are associated with an increased risk of diseases and an unfavorable prognosis. Psychosocial problems and mental comorbidities should be assessed routinely to initiate targeted diagnostics and treatment. For all patients, treatment should consider age and sex-specific differences as well as individual patient preferences. Multimodal treatment concepts should comprise education, physical exercise, motivational counselling and relaxation training or stress management. In cases of mental comorbidities, basic psychosomatic treatment and psychotherapeutic interventions by primary care providers or cardiologists, regular psychotherapy and/or medication should be offered. While these interventions have positive effects on psychological symptoms, robust evidence for possible effects on cardiac outcomes is still lacking. For coronary heart disease, chronic heart failure, arterial hypertension, and some arrhythmias there is robust evidence supporting the relevance of psychosocial factors, pointing to a need for considering them in cardiological care; however, there are still shortcomings in implementing psychosocial treatment and prognostic effects of psychotherapy and psychotropic drugs remain uncertain. There is a need for enhanced provider education and more treatment trials.

Das Ziel dieser randomisiert kontrollierten Doppelblindstudie war es zu testen, ob sich durch eine verbale Suggestion die Wirkung einer unterdosierten Nitroglycerinlösung auf den Koronardiameter potenzieren lässt. Hierzu wurde 30 Patienten im Rahmen einer Koronarangiographie i.c. 0,01 mg Nitroglycerin appliziert. Die Interventionsgruppe erhielt eine Suggestion zur Gefäßerweiterung, die Kontrollgruppe erhielt keine Suggestion. Als primäre Zielparameter wurden der prozentuale Stenosediamter (% DS), der Minimale Lumendurchmesser (MLD) und der Referenzdurchmesser (RD) des Referenzgefäßes 60 Sekunden vor und nach der Injektion der Lösung bestimmt. Zudem wurden hämodynamische Parameter, die psychische Belastung und die Intensität der Brustschmerzen als sekundäre Endpunkte bestimmt. Die Ergebnisse der Untersuchung zeigten keine signifikanten suggestionsspezifischen Effekte auf den Diameter der Koronargefäße oder auf andere erfasste Parameter., The aim of this double-blind randomized controlled study was to examine whether a verbal suggestion could increase the effect of pharmaceutically subdosed nitroglycerin on the diameter of coronary arteries. Therefore 0,01 mg nitroglycerin was administered i.c. to 30 patients during coronary angiography. The intervention group received a verbal suggestion, implying coronary vasodilatation and the control group remained without suggestion. Primary endpoints were the changes in Percentage Diameter Stenosis (% DS), Minimal Lumen Diameter (MLD) and Reference Diameter (RD) of the index coronary segment before and 60 seconds after the administration of nitroglycerin. Furthermore, changes in hemodynamics, psychological distress, and chest pain perception were defined as secondary endpoints. The results of this study showed no suggestion specific significant effects on the diameter of the coronary arteries or on other recorded parameters.
