- Abstract
Heteroatom-tagged proteomics allows the absolute quantification of selenoproteins using the heteroatom as a “tag” into a selective and sensitive atomic detector instead of a molecular one. Using this analytical method, about 90% of total selenium in human serum/plasma can be measured as selenoproteins and total selenometabolites and thus, the status of selenium can be determined. Herein, we determined the absolute concentration of selenoproteins in human serum patients with lung cancer (LC) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a competing cause of morbidity and mortality in smokers as well as an independent risk factor for LC. We conducted an observational study of 154 human serum samples obtained from LC and COPD patients with varying severity of disease, including COPD patients who developed LC during follow-up and healthy controls (HC). Using heteroatom-tagged proteomics, we determined extracellular glutathione peroxidase (eGPx), selenoprotein P (SELENOP), and selenoalbumin (SeAlb). Associations between selenoproteins were also studied as potential biomarkers of disease. The concentration of eGPx was significantly higher in the all-inclusive COPD cohort compared to HC, COPD patients with LC, or those with mild obstructive lung disease, while SELENOP concentration was significantly decreased in LC patients compared to HC and COPD. We found an inverse correlation between SELENOP and SeAlb in HC, but also in LC patients, and especially in patients with COPD and LC. Moreover, we found that eGPx and selenometabolite concentrations were positively associated with LC human serum. Selenoprotein concentrations were altered in COPD and LC when compared to healthy controls suggesting a potential role of the selenoproteome in the diagnosis and/or treatment of these tobacco-related diseases.

- Abstract
Lung cancer (LC) is the leading cause of cancer deaths, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) can increase LC risk. Metallomics may provide insights into both of these tobacco-related diseases and their shared etiology. We conducted an observational study of 191 human serum samples, including those of healthy controls, LC patients, COPD patients, and patients with both COPD and LC. We found 18 elements (V, Al, As, Mn, Co, Cu, Zn, Cd, Se, W, Mo, Sb, Pb, Tl, Cr, Mg, Ni, and U) in these samples. In addition, we evaluated the elemental profiles of COPD cases of varying severity. The ratios and associations between the elements were also studied as possible signatures of the diseases. COPD severity and LC have a significant impact on the elemental composition of human serum. The severity of COPD was found to reduce the serum concentrations of As, Cd, and Tl and increased the serum concentrations of Mn and Sb compared with healthy control samples, while LC was found to increase Al, As, Mn, and Pb concentrations. This study provides new insights into the effects of LC and COPD on the human serum elemental profile that will pave the way for the potential use of elements as biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis. It also sheds light on the potential link between the two diseases, i.e., the evolution of COPD to LC.

- Abstract
Higher education training offered by universities around the world should be supported by high-quality didactic mediation for new professionals to transform the global environment. Therefore, this work presents a statistical analysis of the training process received by students from a university in a Colombian city. The research utilizes of didactic mediation, which plays a fundamental role. Do this, in the theoretical and conceptual section of this paper, a documentary comprehension technique called a survey. As a unit of analysis, according to the result of the population where this study has applied, optimal sample size conform of a sample of 400 randomly chosen students. It evidenced that many of the students had not taken the time to ask themselves what their abilities are, much less identify the spaces assigned to them by the University. This allows us to make evident an imbalance between the theory vs reality. Concluding that, with didactic mediation, it is possible to propose a broad development of the dimensions that each student has, both linguistic and mathematical. Additionally, it concluded that the knowledge that students can acquire in the institutions is focusing on spatial intelligence, mathematics, logic, kinesthetic, and music. But, with the deepening of the didactic mediation, the new professionals will be able, to build better knowledge, and apply modern, more creative strategies, which serve to propose solutions that are viable and contribute to improving society.

The purpose of this research was to analyze if the disposition to legitimize intimate partner violence in young adults depends on the type of couple relationship they have, the presence of children, and their tendency to infidelity. A quantitative cross-sectional study was carried out with a multivariate explanatory design. Five hundred twenty-six people recruited through an intentional sampling from the snowball technique participated, using social networks such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram to access the population. The instruments used for the research were: Questionnaire of Legitimation of Domestic Violence of Victims and Women at Risk Version 1 (LEVI-MUVR), Scale of Attitude towards Marital Exclusivity (ATMES), and a questionnaire of demographic variables. The results indicate that the presence of children is closely related to the type of reaction to the type of physical violence, it is in this way that many couples are immersed in violent dynamics within their families. We also found dependence between the dimensions of the tendency to infidelity and the different types of violence except for social isolation. It was found that the reaction to the situation of economic and verbal violence and social isolation depends on the work condition of the participants. The legitimation of violence is derived from multiple causes in its variables: presence of children, tendency to infidelity and sociodemographic variables such as employment status. Background Despite the existing evidence-based smoking cessation interventions, chances of achieving that goal in real life are still low among patients with COPD. We sought to evaluate the clinical consequences of changes in smoking habits in a large cohort of patients with COPD. Methods CHAIN (COPD History Assessment in Spain) is a Spanish multicenter study carried out at pulmonary clinics including active and former smokers with COPD. Smoking status was certified by clinical history and co-oximetry. Clinical presentation and disease impact were recorded via validated questionnaires, including the London Chest Activity of Daily Living (LCADL) and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). No specific smoking cessation intervention was carried out. Factors associated with and clinical consequences of smoking cessation were analyzed by multivariate regression and decision tree analyses. Results One thousand and eighty-one patients with COPD were included (male, 80.8%; age, 65.2 [SD 8.9] years; FEV1, 60.2 [20.5]%). During the 2-year follow-up time (visit 2, 906 patients; visit 3, 791 patients), the majority of patients maintained the same smoking habit. Decision tree analysis detected chronic expectoration as the most relevant variable to identify persistent quitters in the future, followed by an LCADL questionnaire (cutoff 9 points). Total anxiety HADS score was the most relevant clinical impact associated with giving up tobacco, followed by the LCADL questionnaire with a cutoff value of 10 points. Conclusions In this real-life prospective COPD cohort with no specific antismoking intervention, the majority of patients did not change their smoking status. Our study also identifies baseline expectoration, anxiety, and dyspnea with daily activities as the major determinants of smoking status in COPD. RESULTS: One thousand and eighty-one patients with COPD were included (male, 80.8%; age, 65.2 [SD 8.9] years; FEV1, 60.2 [20.5]%). CONCLUSIONS: In this real-life prospective COPD cohort with no specific antismoking intervention, the majority of patients did not change their smoking status. Our study also identifies baseline expectoration, anxiety, and dyspnea with daily activities as the major determinants of smoking status in COPD.

In recent years many assisted reproduction units are using the ovaric induction technique as fertilization procedure. The ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is scarcely frequent, but a potentially serious complication of this technique. Is characterized by a situation of not clearly explained hypovolemia, and increased liquid amount in serosae. Development and diffusion of assisted reproduction procedures makes the consideration of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome as a possible cause for pleural effusion.

Background: Despite the existing evidence-based smoking cessation interventions, chances of achieving that goal in real life are still low among patients with COPD. We sought to evaluate the clinical consequences of changes in smoking habits in a large cohort of patients with COPD., Methods: CHAIN (COPD History Assessment in Spain) is a Spanish multicenter study carried out at pulmonary clinics including active and former smokers with COPD. Factors associated with and clinical consequences of smoking cessation were analyzed by multivariate regression and decision tree analyses., Results: One thousand and eighty-one patients with COPD were included (male, 80.8%; age, 65.2 [SD 8.9] years; FEV
