Recent years brought to light the immense challenges and enduring traumas for Black parents due to systemic injustices like pandemic disparities, police violence, and various structurally oppressive forces. There is also a profound absence of evidence-based resources intentionally tailored to help Black caregivers navigate racialized parental stress and the recurring impacts of racism on themselves and their children. In response, the Race and Youth Development team at Pitt’s Center on Race and Social Problems partnered with two other community organizations—Awaken Pittsburgh and Homewood Children’s Village—to integrate their resources and infrastructure to establish Mindful Connections for Black Families (MCBF). MCBF exists at the intersection of racial justice, human development, and mindfulness and equips caregivers with tools for resilience, stress management, trauma identification, and raising thriving Black youth. This session provides an interactive platform to explore community-led initiatives, shared leadership, and problem-solving in Black family empowerment and community resilience, using MCBF as a case study to foster healing and disrupt cycles of oppression.

One of the causes of decreased vision is cataract. Treatment is removal of the cloudy lens with replacement by an intraocular lens (IOL). Posterior capsule opacity (PCO) is a common long-term complication. Modifications in the design of the IOL both in terms of material and shape are of greater importance in preventing PCO. Treatment is neodymium YAG laser capsulotomy. Objective: to identify the PCO related to the type of IOL implanted in pseudophakic patients in the FBO, from March 2019 to February 2022. Methods: observational study, analytical type, historical cohort subtype, retro-prospective and longitudinal, with a quantitative statistical analysis approach. Results: the female gender predominated with 60% and 41% represented the male; 60.3% of the total was between 65 and 80 years old. PCO in the 3 types of intraocular lenses (acrylic and PMMA) caused a decrease in visual acuity: 37%, predominated, due to the hydrophobic IOL, 36% due to the PMMA IOL and we highlight that 27% was due to the hydrophilic IOL. The incidence of PCO at 5 years was 32%. No adverse effect was recorded in our study. Conclusion: PCO causes mild to moderate visual acuity loss in all 3 types of IOLs; with a minimal predominance of mild AVB for the hydrophobic IOL type compared to the hydrophilic one. In addition, after capsulotomy, a large percentage has between 20/20 and 20/25 better corrected visual acuity., Una de las causas de la disminución de la visión es la catarata. El tratamiento es la extracción del cristalino opaco con reemplazo por un lente intraocular (LIO). La opacidad de cápsula posterior (OCP) es una complicación frecuente a largo plazo. Las modificaciones en el diseño del LIO tanto del material y la forma tienen mayor importancia para prevenir la OCP. Como tratamiento está la capsulotomía neodimio YAG láser. Objetivo: identificar la OCP relacionado con el tipo de LIO implantado en pacientes pseudofáquicos en la FBO, entre el periodo de marzo del 2019 hasta febrero del 2022. Métodos: estudio observacional,tipo analítico,subtipo cohorte histórica, retro-prospectiva y longitudinal, con enfoque de análisis estadístico de tipo cuantitativo. Resultados: predominó el género femenino con un 60% y un 40% representaba al masculino; un 60,3% del total tenían entre 65 a 80 años. La OCP en los 3 tipos de lentes intraoculares (acrílico y PMMA) ocasionó una disminución en la agudeza visual: el 37%, predominó, por el LIO hidrofóbico, 36% por el LIO PMMA y destacamos que el 27% fue por el LIO hidrofílico. La incidencia de OCP a 5 años fue del 32%. No se registró ningún efecto adverso en nuestro estudio. Conclusiones: la OCP provoca una baja de agudeza visual leve a moderada en los 3 tipos de LIOs; con un mínimo predominio de BAV leve para el tipo de LIO hidrofóbico comparado con el hidrofílico. Además después de la capsulotomía un gran porcentaje tiene entre 20/20 a 20/25 de AV mejor corregida.

[ES] En el siguiente proyecto se desarrolló una propuesta de integración arquitectónica para una instalación fotovoltaica doméstica mediante un sistema de cubierta integrado. La propuesta se aplicó a una vivienda unifamiliar ubicada en Falcón, Venezuela; emplazamiento elegido por su gran potencial de aprovechamiento de la energía solar, considerando las variables climáticas que afectaban el diseño de la instalación. Por último, se evaluó la rentabilidad de la instalación fotovoltaica con la finalidad de identificar las ventajas y desventajas económicas de su implementación. Como solución de integración arquitectónica se propuso un módulo integrado, basado en paneles sándwich existentes en el mercado con adición de la parte fotovoltaica, que puede ensamblarse lateral y longitudinalmente para crear un sistema de cubierta con gran valor estético y energético. Del estudio económico se obtuvo que la instalación fotovoltaica es rentable a largo plazo, con un índice de retorno de la inversión de un 95%., [EN] In the following project, a proposal for architectural integration for a home photovoltaic system was developed through an integrated roof system. The proposal was applied to a family home in Falcon, Venezuela; location chosen for its great solar energy use potential, considering the climatic variables affecting the design of the facility. Finally, the profitability of the PV system was evaluated in order to identify the economic advantages and disadvantages of its implementation. As an integrated architectonic solution, an integrated module is proposed, based on existing sandwich roof panels on the market with the addition of the photovoltaic part, which can be assembled laterally and longitudinally to create a roof system with great aesthetic and energetic value. The results from the economic study, revealed that the PV system is profitable in the long term, with a rate of return on investment of 95%.

Debido al reciente crecimiento de la economía en el Perú, se ha generado un incremento descontrolado del parque automotor. Esto ha desencadenado una serie de problemas en la ciudad de Arequipa, que van desde una severa congestión vehicular, hasta inseguridad vial. En la actualidad se cuenta con sistemas de control de tráfico fijo, los cuales no son adecuados para manejar de forma eficiente el actual flujo vehicular en la ciudad de Arequipa, especialmente en la Avenida Jorge Chávez. Esta Avenida es una de las vías principales de la ciudad, pues permite el ingreso y egreso al centro de la ciudad, en donde, se encuentras la mayor parte del movimiento económico de la ciudad. Esta investigación aborda el análisis de la implementación de un sistema de control de tráfico accionado por vehículos en la Av. Jorge Chávez cuyo algoritmo de control mide el estado (realimentación) del tráfico en cada momento, y esta información es utilizada para sincronizar las señales de control en tiempo real. Para lo cual se procedió con la familiarización de la zona, recolección de datos como: aforos vehiculares, velocidades de recorrido y marcha, así como, velocidad de punto. Los aforos de vehículos fueron recolectados por un periodo de 12 horas comprendido desde las 7:00 am hasta las 7:00 pm en un día típico de la semana, en nuestro caso, martes 05 de abril, mientras que las velocidades fueron recolectadas durante la hora pico. Una vez obtenida la información, se construyó un Modelo Base de simulación en el programa de micro-simulación VISSIM, con todas las características existentes de la Av. Jorge Chávez, que nos sirvió para calibrar y validar nuestro modelo. Para poder calibrar nuestro modelo se usó el criterio GEH, obteniendo un 93%. Después, se pasó a la creación del algoritmo en la plataforma VIS/VAP que fue implementado a nuestro Modelo Base, permitiendo realizar la evaluación y comparación con el Modelo Propuesto. This dissertation is a contemplative narration of my lived experience of bringing mindfulness into my teaching. The dissertation first portrays the process of entering into the dialogic space of mindfulness as a Buddhist concept intersecting with the scientific, educational, and public domains. I then describe the contemplative reflection process I used to explore my incorporation of mindfulness into my teaching praxis. From this, I wrote contemplative reflections during a year and half. In this way, I tried to embody mindfulness in my methodology. I used the same process to contemplate these reflections to deepen my understanding and identify themes. The two main themes I arrived at are an openhearted quality (bodhichitta) and a newfound openness that resulted from bringing mindfulness to my professional spaces. I illustrate these themes through six contemplative narratives that portray my heightened consciousness of how my embodiment of mindfulness has influenced my classroom presence and opened my heart. Each contemplative reflection narrates the quality of open awareness towards my own and others’ emotions – good and bad. Each narrative also includes a reflective aspect that explores the themes that emerged. My contemplative reflections illustrate how mindfulness helped me stay open to both the joy and the pain of teaching. Mindfulness practices also provided me with the social and emotional awareness and tools to confront the highly emotional and sometimes volatile space of public schools. My contemplative reflections depict the lived experience of mindfully working through the positive and negative experiences of daily life in public school. Coming from the place of an open heart makes teaching much more rich and full of joy, but at the same time also makes the painful parts of teaching and working in a public, bureaucratic institution more palpable. However, by using my mindfulness practices to delve into that pain, I felt my connection to others, which broug
