The purpose of this article is to evaluate the performance of a prototype parabolic trough collector for three proposed scenarios, where geometric designs with optical characteristics are tested according to the appropriate technological paradigm; low cost of maintenance and implementation, intensive local labor, materials and resources of the implementation area. The device was developed by the Energy, Automation and Control Systems Research Group GISEAC of the Unidades Tecnológicas de Santander for low-cost water heating; using materials and labor for its fabrication easily available locally. Monte Carlo ray tracing methodology was applied using the open-access software SolTrace and Tonatiuh. To select the geometric scenario to be simulated, the edge angle and the width of the primary reflection system of the device were varied. The results obtained showed that the aperture of the parabola has a direct impact on the drop in the concentration ratio (CR) percentage value and the performance of the prototype. Pulsating heat pipes (PHPs) offer significant advantages for the thermal control of electronic components due to their simple manufacturing and high heat transfer rates. The reliability of PHPs has traditionally been assessed through long-life testing, but detailed reliability analyses from an equipment perspective are limited. The study of PHP reliability is essential due to its application and operational conditions. For instance, in aerospace applications these devices operate under severe conditions, and maintenance or replacement is impossible during operation, making them critical components in system functionality. The reliability analysis of PHPs focuses on the manufacturing process, considering future operating conditions. Although preliminary PHP testing will be conducted on Earth, laboratory conditions are less stringent due to the difficulty of replicating launch acceleration and space conditions for long-term testing under microgravity. This study presents an FMECA (Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis) of the pulsating heat pipe manufacturing process, breaking down the production of each component. The results indicate that the most critical point is concentrated in the assembly of these components, leading to a higher incidence of welding failures. Se estudió la aplicación de voltamperometría de onda cuadrada (SWV por sussiglas en inglés) para la cuantificación de paracetamol (PAR) utilizando un electrodode platino como electrodo de trabajo. Se determinó la confiabilidad del método mediante la determinación de parámetros analíticos como el límite de detección, límite de cuantificación y porcentaje de recuperación. El compor-tamiento electroquímico de PAR fue evaluado en soluciones buffer de acetato y fosfato, a niveles de pH entre 4 y 6 en un rango de potencial de 0 a + 2 V vs Ag/AgCl, a una velocidad de escaneo de 50 mVs-1 mediante voltametría cíclica (VC). La aparición del pico anódico del analito ocurrió a un potencial de 0,6 V. Se optimizaron los parámetros analíticos encontrándose mejores respuestas electroquímicas a una frecuencia de 10 Hz con un pulso de amplitud de 100 mV y un incremento en el barrido de 10 mV. Los límites de detección y cuantificación obtenidos fueron 0,6 mM y 2,0 mM, respectivamente. El porcentaje de recuperación de PAR estuvo comprendido entre 96,97 hasta 104,54 %. Finalmente, la aplicación de esta técnica es una alternativa fiable, sencilla, y rápida.

El tabaquismo es un problema de salud pública mundial. La dependencia a la nicotina y sus niveles están determinados por factores individuales genéticos y psicosociales, así como la combinación de estos. Esta investigación evaluó la dependencia a la nicotina y su relación con el estrés en personal de instituciones hospitalarias del Municipio Naguanagua del Estado Carabobo. La investigación fue descriptiva, con diseño transversal y no experimental. La muestra estuvo constituida por 50 sujetos categorizados como grupo de profesionales de la salud (GS) del Municipio Naguanagua, todos con tabaquismo y un grupo control de 50 fumadores (GC), con similar nivel educativo, pero sin laborar en centros asistenciales de salud. Se aplicó el Test de Fagerström para medir nivel de dependencia a la nicotina y para el nivel de estrés se utilizó el test psicosomático. Los grupos fueron homogéneos en cuanto a la edad, se evidenció el predominio del género masculino en ambos grupos de estudio. Hubo asociación entre el área laboral y nivel de dependencia a la nicotina (NDN), GS presentó mayor NDN (p=0,000). El NDN y el nivel de estrés no estuvieron asociados al género. Se encontró fuerte asociación significativa y positiva (r: 0,064 p=0,000) entre NDN y el nivel de estrés. En conclusión, el nivel de dependencia fue de moderado a alto en GS y se asoció significativamente con el estrés.

Over the years, climate change has generated an increase in the average temperature of the planet, which has led to greater consumption of electrical energy for the use of air conditioning systems. Insulating envelope materials are considered a viable passive solution as they offer internal air conditioning, cooling, and/or heating of buildings that lead to thermal comfort with reduced energy consumption. This article compares the application of different insulating materials in an existing single-family home located in a hot-dry climate. To this end, the procedural methodology has been applied by carrying out a bibliographic review of different involutes currently used in the construction of the buildings and 14 models are proposed that will be simulated under the same input variables of the base model and meteorological data of the city of Bucaramanga validated from a meteorological station located on site. The results of the simulations show that all 14 models show a decrease in temperature with reference to the "base model"; This difference can be explained by the presence of the selected materials that slightly change the thermal properties of the wall. Finally, this research allowed us to determine that the occupants of the simulated spaces in the base model are inside the thermal comfort range by 61.96%, which represents 5,438 hours of the modeled year, having 38.03% of hours of discomfort in the measured time.
