No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2022-02-01 This analysis, using data from the Brazilian kidney transplant (KT) COVID-19 study, seeks to develop a prediction score to assist in COVID-19 risk stratification in KT recipients. In this study, 1379 patients (35 sites) were enrolled, and a machine learning approach was used to fit models in a derivation cohort. A reduced Elastic Net model was selected, and the accuracy to predict the 28-day fatality after the COVID-19 diagnosis, assessed by the area under the ROC curve (AUC-ROC), was confirmed in a validation cohort. The better calibration values were used to build the applicable ImAgeS score. The 28-day fatality rate was 17% (n = 235), which was associated with increasing age, hypertension and cardiovascular disease, higher body mass index, dyspnea, and use of mycophenolate acid or azathioprine. Higher kidney graft function, longer time of symptoms until COVID-19 diagnosis, presence of anosmia or coryza, and use of mTOR inhibitor were associated with reduced risk of death. The coefficients of the best model were used to build the predictive score, which achieved an AUC-ROC of 0.767 (95% CI 0.698–0.834) in the validation cohort. In conclusion, the easily applicable predictive model could assist health care practitioners in identifying non-hospitalized kidney transplant patients that may require more intensive monitoring. Color-changing materials with controllable photoswitching properties are highly desirable for technical and smart textile products. In the quest for innovative light-responsive textiles, many efforts have been made to develop materials that can be easily incorporated into fibers and/or fabrics by conventional dyeing, printing or coating processes. Current developments commonly incorporate photochromic inks that undergo a color change upon irradiation with light of a specific wavelength and revert to the original color when the light source is removed. However, these inks are based on substances obtained by non-sustainable petroleum-based organic synthesis and do not allow controlled light-driven switching between colors. In this context, biomolecules which can be easily obtained by biotechnological means and that combine fast and easily tunable fluorescent properties, appear as a more eco-sustainable and highly appealing alternative with a wide range of promising applications. Therefore, this work explores the development of a new generation of eco-sustainable inks that take advantage of the unique optical properties of selected reversibly switchable fluorescent molecules (RSFMs) for the fabrication of innovative textiles with photocontrolable photoswitching fluorescent properties (Figure 1)., This work was developed in the framework of EcoBioInks4SMartTextiles project (refs. The WHO European Region has the highest level of adult alcohol consumption of the six WHO regions. In 2016, the regional average for adults (aged 15 years and older) was 9.8 litres of pure alcohol per capita (comprising 8.0 litres of recorded alcohol and 1.8 litres of unrecorded alcohol). Restricting marketing of alcohol is a WHO recommended “Best Buy” – a cost-effective policy to reduce alcohol consumption and attributable burden. However, with smartphones and tablets becoming ubiquitous, young people and others are increasingly exposed to alcohol marketing in all of their social spaces. This report draws on previous WHO reports on marketing and digital marketing and on consultations with Member States and civil society to stress the need for urgent action to protect public health and human rights. The report discusses the fast-changing digital ecosystem and the methods employed to invade online personal spaces with alcohol marketing. It provides a snapshot of regulatory contexts in a small selection of countries in the WHO European Region, as well as at international level. A range of policy options is suggested, with the overall conclusions emphasizing the urgent need for concerted action by countries and international institutions. A global and comprehensive approach is required, with the intention of protecting children and young people, people with (or at risk of) substance use disorders and the general population by removing marketing of alcohol altogether from digital spaces.
