Twenty-five cases of congenital absence of the vagina have been reviewed. The clinical syndromes encountered include simple absence of the vagina, male pseudohermaphroditism., and Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser synrdrome. Complete physical and laparotomy data are detailed in 14 cases. The surgical procedures and their results are evaluated in 19 cases. The McIndoe procedure and its modification by Counseller are the procedures of choice in vaginal reconstruction. Laparotomy should be a routine procedure prior to vaginal reconstruction.

This study is based upon a group of patients examined for sterility of three types: primary, of at least two years' duration; secondary or acquired, after a lengthy period of infertility; and, finally, relative, that is after one or several miscarriages. Whenever two etiological factors were concerned, the more important was used for our statistical purposes.
