1. A learning agent-based approach to the characterization of open quantum systems

Abstract

Characterizing quantum processes is crucial for the execution of quantum algorithms on available quantum devices. A powerful framework for this purpose is the Quantum Model Learning Agent (QMLA) which characterizes a given system by learning its Hamiltonian via adaptive generations of informative experiments and their validation against simulated models. Identifying the incoherent noise of a quantum device in addition to its coherent interactions is, however, as essential. Precise knowledge of such imperfections of a quantum device allows to devise strategies to mitigate detrimental effects, for example via quantum error correction. We introduce the open Quantum Model Learning Agent (oQMLA) framework to account for Markovian noise through the Liouvillian formalism. By simultaneously learning the Hamiltonian and jump operators, oQMLA independently captures both the coherent and incoherent dynamics of a system. The added complexity of open systems necessitates advanced algorithmic strategies. Among these, we implement regularization to steer the algorithm towards plausible models and an unbiased metric to evaluate the quality of the results. We validate our implementation in simulated scenarios of increasing complexity, demonstrating its robustness to hardware-induced measurement errors and its ability to characterize systems using only local operations. Additionally, we develop a scheme to interface oQMLA with a publicly available superconducting quantum computer, showcasing its practical utility. 2. Stabilization of cat-state manifolds using nonlinear reservoir engineering

Abstract

We introduce a novel reservoir engineering approach for stabilizing multi-component Schr\"odinger's cat manifolds. The fundamental principle of the method lies in the destructive interference at crossings of gain and loss Hamiltonian terms in the coupling of an oscillator to a zero-temperature auxiliary system, which are nonlinear with respect to the oscillator's energy. The nature of these gain and loss terms is found to determine the rotational symmetry, energy distributions, and degeneracy of the resulting stabilized manifolds. Considering these systems as bosonic error-correction codes, we analyze their properties with respect to a variety of errors, including both autonomous and passive error correction, where we find that our formalism gives straightforward insights into the nature of the correction. We give example implementations using the anharmonic laser-ion coupling of a trapped ion outside the Lamb-Dicke regime as well as nonlinear superconducting circuits. Beyond the dissipative stabilization of standard cat manifolds and novel rotation symmetric codes, we demonstrate that our formalism allows for the stabilization of bosonic codes linked to cat states through unitary transformations, such as quadrature-squeezed cats. Abstract

State-of-the-art characterization protocols often focus on incoherent noise and eliminate coherent errors when using Pauli or Clifford twirling techniques. This approach biases the structure of the effective noise and adds a circuit and sampling overhead. We motivate the extension of an incoherent local Pauli noise model to coherent errors and present a practical characterization protocol for an arbitrary gate layer. Notably, the coherent noise estimation is robust to Pauli noise. We demonstrate our protocol on a superconducting hardware platform and identify the leading coherent errors. To verify the characterized noise structure, we mitigate its coherent and incoherent components using a gate-level coherent noise mitigation scheme in conjunction with probabilistic error cancellation. We present techniques for performing two-qubit gates on Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) codes with finite energy, and find that operations designed for ideal infinite-energy codes create undesired entanglement when applied to physically realistic states. We demonstrate that this can be mitigated using recently developed local error-correction protocols, and evaluate the resulting performance. Abstract

We propose and implement a novel scheme for dissipatively pumping two qubits into a singlet Bell state. The method relies on a process of collective optical pumping to an excited level, to which all states apart from the singlet are coupled. We apply the method to deterministically entangle two trapped ${}^{40}\text{Ca}^+$ ions with a fidelity of $93(1)\%$. Abstract

Abstract Detecting unusual auditory stimuli is crucial for discovering potential threat. Locus coeruleus (LC), which coordinates attention, and amygdala, which is implicated in resource prioritization, both respond to deviant sounds. Evidence concerning their interaction, however, is sparse. Seeking to elucidate if human amygdala affects estimated LC activity during this process, we recorded pupillary responses during an auditory oddball and an illuminance change task, in a female with bilateral amygdala lesions (BG) and in n = 23 matched controls. Neural input in response to oddballs was estimated via pupil dilation, a reported proxy of LC activity, harnessing a linear-time invariant system and individual pupillary dilation response function (IRF) inferred from illuminance responses. While oddball recognition remained intact, estimated LC input for BG was compacted to an impulse rather than the prolonged waveform seen in healthy controls. This impulse had the earliest response mean and highest kurtosis in the sample. As a secondary finding, BG showed enhanced early pupillary constriction to darkness. These findings suggest that LC-amygdala communication is required to sustain LC activity in response to anomalous sounds. Our results provide further evidence for amygdala involvement in processing deviant sound targets, although it is not required for their behavioral recognition.

Abstract

The article deals with the theory and practice of the influence of fitness on the health promotion of students. The authors of the article conducted an experiment and found the effectiveness of fitness classes in the sports club to improve the health of students. As a result of the experiment, it was concluded that students are able to work better in their physical activity, interest in physical education, development of musicality, plasticity. Many students experienced normalization of body weight and formation of correct body posture. After the experiment, views on the physical perfection and level of preparation of students have changed significantly, through fitness classes, and make new demands on the content of fitness classes. This approach to the issue of physical education of students increases the importance of strength training (functional development of the muscular system, the formation of the figure and appearance) with consistently increased attention to the quality of aerobic fitness and performance. These two factors, namely new views on the problem of physical fitness and a limited period of training are key in planning and developing the content of new health techniques. Improved physical development of students was facilitated by dosed physical exercises in the form of moderate physical activity, with the help of fitness programs, as well as additional physical activities in extracurricular activities, which ultimately made it possible to effectively maintain the physical condition and health of students. The motive for activating fitness classes for students should be the positive impact of classes and improving physical fitness.

Abstract

Purpose: to study the level of melatonin and sex hormones in partial light deprivation, donevwith the help of policarbonate lenses, to identify the corrective effect in women with climacteric disorders in perimenopausal period.Materials and methods: 184 women between the ages of 35 and 60 were studied. Three age groups of healthy women with the second period of maturity and old age ontogenesis, who completely lacked any expression of disregulative processes were formed. And we formed 2 risk groups for the development of dysfunctional changes. We studied somnological and hormonal status, we provided partial light deprivation and polisomnographic investigation.Results: We showed the normalization of melatonin level and sex hormones in partial light deprivation in women with climacteric disorders. The greatest effect is achieved in women with autonomic form of menopausal syndrome in perimenopausal period compared with menopause.Summary: Reduced levels of gonadotropic hormones after partial light deprivation, is apparently connected with the blocking effect of increasing blocking effect of melatonin, which level is increased significantly after deprivating light exposure. which depriviruyuschego against light exposure increases significantly.

Abstract

Within 16 pumping cycles, an initially separable state is transformed into one with 83(1)% singlet fidelity, and states with initial fidelity of ⪆70% converge onto a fidelity of 93(1)%. Abstract

Digitization and the growing capabilities of data networks enable companies to perform tasks via remote support, which previously required service personnel to travel. But which mixed reality method leads to better results regarding human factors, grounding and performance criteria? This paper reports on a collaborative user study, in which a local worker is guided by a remote expert with the help of different augmented reality methods, specifically see-through HMD, spatial projection, and video-mixing tablet. The task to perform is the exchange of a controller in a switch cabinet of an industrial robot, a task rather typical for failure detection within the field. Our study was conducted in collaboration with a technician school, where 50 technician apprentices participated in our study. Our results show clear advantages of using augmented reality (AR) versus traditional conditions (audio, video, screenshot) to enable remote support. It further gives significant indications for using a projection based AR method.

Abstract

The absolute muon flux between 20 and 3000 GeV is measured with the L3 magnetic muon spectrometer for zenith angles ranging from 0°to 58°. Due to the large exposure of about 150 m2sr d, and the excellent momentum resolution of the L3 muon chambers, a precision of 2.3% at 150 GeV in the vertical direction is achieved.The ratio of positive to negative muons is studied between 20 and 500 GeV, and the average vertical muon charge ratio is found to be 1.285±0.003(stat.)±0.019(syst.)., Physics Letters B, 598 (1-2), ISSN:0370-2693, ISSN:0031-9163, ISSN:1873-2445

Abstract

The L3+C muon detector at the CERN electron–positron collider, LEP, is used for the detection of very-high-energy cosmic c-ray sources through the observation of muons of energies above 20, 30, 50 and 100 GeV. Daily or monthly excesses in the rate of single-muon events pointing to some particular direction in the sky are searched for. The periods from mid July to November 1999, and April to November 2000 are considered. Special attention is also given to a selection of known c-ray sources. Abstract

Розглянуто задачу точністного аналізу лінійних об’єктів складної конфігурації у процесі автоматизованого гнуття. Наведено методику розрахунку похибок відхилень поперечних перерізів просторових елементів арматури при формоутворенні. Вона базується на поєднанні елементів теорії кінцевих переміщень з елементами гвинтового обчислення. Сформульовано рекомендації з використання запропонованої методики. Наведений приклад визначення похибки положення перерізу кінцевої ділянки просторового елементу трубопровідної арматури у процесі формоутворення, Рассмотрена задача точностного анализа линейных объектов сложной конфигурации в процессе автоматизированной гибки. Изложена методика расчета погрешностей отклонений поперечных сечений пространственных элементов арматуры при формообразовании. Она основана на сочетании элементов теории конечных перемещений с элементами винтового исчисления. Сформулированы рекомендации по использованию предложенной методики. Приведен пример определения погрешности положения сечения конечного участка пространственного элемента трубопроводной арматуры в процессе формообразования., The acrid analysis task of involved configuration linear objects at automated flexing is considered. The technique of acrid calculation of automated flexing is stated. The cross sections deviations of the armature spatial constructive element are defined. The technique is founded on combination of ultimate transposition theory base and screw calculus base.The mathematical model of spatial structure’s element is developed. Forming object’s elements are described as plucker coordinate transformation wherewith biquaternions. The scheme of the unitary vector’s transformation as spatial element is adduced. Factors influences of prime inaccuracies are defined. Its allowed to find out the inaccuracy of anyone section’s position of spatial element. The inaccuracy’s definition procedure may be automized.The recommendations for proposed technique application are formulated. The example of definition of section position acrid of final site of the tube armature spatial element at automated flexing is adduced.

Abstract

The experiments at the planned 14 TeV proton-proton collider LHC will need a good identification and measurement of muons with energies of up to about 800 GeV. The production of electromagnetic secondaries by muons of energy from 10 to 300 GeV has been measured at the RD5 experiment at CERN using various detector types proposed for LHC experiments. It is demonstrated that the detectors can recognize the presence of individual hits from em secondaries, and that the muon measurement would be seriously compromised if these hits are not suppressed.

Abstract

A series of polyetherimides were synthesized by polycondensation reaction at high temperature of 2,2-bis[4,4–(3,4–dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]propane dianhydride with various aromatic diamines. These polymers are easy soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as N-methylpyrrolidinone, dimethylformamide or dimethylacetamide or even in less polar liquids such as chloroform. They show high thermal stability, with decomposition temperature being above 400°C and glass transition temperature in the range 200–275°C. Polymer solutions in chloroform were processed into thin films which were tested as gas separation membranes. Transport parameters for light gases were measured. The dependence of glass transition and decomposition temperature on conformational rigidity parameters was calculated.

The influence of small additions of gallium on electric resistivity and magnetic susceptibility of the bulk glass forming Co47Fe20.9B21.2Si4.6Nb6.3 alloy was studied in a wide temperature range up to 1830 K. Наведений приклад визначення похибки положення перерізу кінцевої ділянки просторового елементу трубопровідної арматури у процесі формоутворення. The acrid analysis task of involved configuration linear objects at automated flexing is considered. The technique of acrid calculation of automated flexing is stated. The cross sections deviations of the armature spatial constructive element are defined. The technique is founded on combination of ultimate transposition theory base and screw calculus base. The mathematical model of spatial structure’s element is developed. Forming object’s elements are described as plucker coordinate transformation wherewith biquaternions. The scheme of the unitary vector’s transformation as spatial element is adduced. Factors influences of prime inaccuracies are defined. Its allowed to find out the inaccuracy of anyone section’s position of spatial element. The inaccuracy’s definition procedure may be automized. The recommendations for proposed technique application are formulated. The example of definition of section position acrid of final site of the tube armature spatial element at automated flexing is adduced. Рассмотрена задача точностного анализа линейных объектов сложной конфигурации в процессе автоматизированной гибки. Изложена методика расчета погрешностей отклонений поперечных сечений пространственных элементов арматуры при формообразовании. Она основана на сочетании элементов теории конечных перемещений с элементами винтового исчисления. Сформулированы рекомендации по использованию предложенной методики. Приведен пример определения погрешности положения сечения конечного участка пространственного элемента трубопроводной арматуры в процессе формообразования.

Abstract

The absolute muon flux between 20 and 3000 GeV is measured with the L3 magnetic muon spectrometer for zenith angles ranging from 0° to 58°. Due to the large exposure of about 150 m2 sr d, and the excellent momentum resolution of the L3 muon chambers, a precision of 2.3% at 150 GeV in the vertical direction is achieved. The ratio of positive to negative muons is studied between 20 and 500 GeV, and the average vertical muon charge ratio is found to be 1.285±0.003(stat.)±0.019(syst.).

Abstract

Context. Primary cosmic rays experience multiple deflections in the non-uniform galactic and heliospheric magnetic fields which may generate anisotropies. Aims. A study of anisotropies in the energy range between 100 and 500 GeV is performed. This energy range is not yet well explored. Methods. The L3 detector at the CERN electron-positron collider, LEP, is used for a study of the angular distribution of atmospheric muons with energies above 20 GeV. This distribution is used to investigate the isotropy of the time-dependent intensity of the primary cosmic-ray flux with a Fourier analysis. Results. A small deviation from isotropy at energies around 200 GeV is observed for the second harmonics at the solar frequency. No sidereal anisotropy is found at a level above 10-4 .
