We introduce a class of surfaces in euclidean space motivated by a problem posed by ��lie Cartan. This class furnishes what seems to be the first examples of pairs of non-congruent surfaces in euclidean space such that, under a diffeomorphism $��$, lines of curvatures are preserved and principal curvatures are switched. We show how to construct such surfaces using holomorphic data and discuss their relation with minimal surfaces. We also prove that if the diffeomorphism $��$ preserves the conformal class of the third fundamental form, then all examples belong to the class of surfaces that we deal with in this work., 17 pages, 2 figures

LIMA, Levi Lopes de; ROITMAN, Pedro. Constant mean curvature one surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space using the Bianchi-Calò method. Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, Rio de Janeiro, v. 74, n. 1, p. 19-24, 2002. In this note we present a method for constructing constant mean curvature on surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space in terms of holomorphic data first introduced in Bianchi's Lezioni di Geometria Differenziale of 1927, therefore predating by many years the modern approaches due to Bryant, Small and others. Besides its obvious historical interest, this note aims to complement Bianchi's analysis by deriving explicit formulae for CMC-1 surfaces and comparing the various approaches encountered in the literature. Nesta nota apresentaremos um método para construir superfícies de curvatura média constante um no 3-espaço hiperbólico, a partir de funções holomorfas. Tal método foi introduzido nas Lezioni di Geometria Differenziale de Bianchi em 1927, antecedendo, portanto, em muitos anos, os pontos de vista mais modernos de Bryant, Small e outros. Além do seu óbvio interesse histórico, o objetivo da nota é complementar a análise de Bianchi, obtendo fórmulas explícitas para as superfícies de curvatura média constante um, e comparar os vários pontos de vista encontrados na literatura.

We consider a class of oriented hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space satisfying ∑r=0n(c−n+2r)(nr)Hr=0, where Hr is the rth mean curvature and c is a real constant. We show how this class is characterized by a harmonic map derived from the two hyperbolic Gauss maps. By looking at hypersurfaces as orthogonal to a congruence of geodesics, we also show the relation of such hypersurfaces with solutions of the equation Δu+kun+2n−2=0, where k∈{−1,0,1}. Finally, we apply the relation mentioned above to obtain examples and geometrical results for the hypersurfaces.

Introduzimos uma transformação geométrica de superfícies nos espaços produto R 3 = R 2×R, S 2×R e H2×R, onde S 2 e H2 denotam, respectivamente, a esfera unitária com a métrica canônica e o plano hiperbólico com curvatura −1. Aplicamos esta transformação para obter novos exemplos de superfícies mínimas nestes espaços a partir de superfícies mínimas conhecidas. Mostramos também um teorema de permutabilidade para estas transformações. We introduce a geometric tranformation for surfaces in the product spaces R 3 = R 2 × R, S 2 × R and H2 × R, where S 2 and H2 denote, respectively, the unit sphere with the standard metric and the hyperbolic plane with curvature −1. We apply this transformation to produce ew examples of minimal surfaces in these spaces by starting with some well known minimal surfaces. We also show a permutability theorem for such transformations.

No artigo [1], os autores estudam o problema de construir superfícies no semiespaço superior do R3 em que as curvaturas de Gauss induzidas pela métrica euclidiana e pela métrica hiperbólica coincidem. Neste trabalho mostraremos que, se S é uma superfície no semiespaço e K e Kh são as curvaturas de Gauss induzidas pela métrica euclidiana e hiperbólica, respectivamente, então a quantidade K/Kh é invariante por transformações paralelas com relação a métrica hiperbólica. Isso permite interpretar a construção feita em [1] como o estudo de superfícies em que esse invariante é constante positivo. Em [1], os autores também comentam que é possível adaptar a construção para obter superfícies em que esse invariante é constante negativo. Ao longo deste texto, iremos detalhar o processo de construção dessas superfícies a partir de superfícies máximas no espaço de Lorentz. Mostraremos também como usar essa construção para caracterizar localmente todos os sólitons de translação do fluxo da curvatura média harmônica, definido pela seguinte regra {(∂∂tF)⊥=KHNF(⋅,0) = identidade em que a normal ao sóliton não é paralela à direção de translação em nenhum ponto. Por último, iremos mostrar um resultado que permite construir exemplos explícitos desses sólitons através da representação Weierstrass para superfícies máximas no espaço de Lorentz e discutiremos a possibilidade de se obter uma caracterização local completa. In the article [1], the authors study the problem of constructing surfaces in Euclidean half space with the property that the Gaussian curvatures induced by the Euclidean and hyperbolic metrics coincide. In this work, we will show that, if S is a surface in Euclidean half space and K and Kh denote the Gaussian curvatures induced by the Euclidean and hyperbolic metrics, respectively, then the ratio K/Kh is invariant by parallel transformations with respect to the hyperbolic metric. This allows us to interpret the construction made in [1] as surfaces on which this invariant is a positive constant. In [1], the authors also point out that it is possible to adapt the construction to obtain surfaces where this invariant is a negative constant. Throughout this text, we will detail the process of constructing these surfaces starting from maximal surfaces in Lorentz space. Furthermore, we will show how to use that construction to locally characterize all the translating solitons of the harmonic mean curvature flow, defined by the following rule {(∂∂tF)⊥=KHN F(⋅,0) = identidade where the normal to the soliton is not parallel to the translation direction at any point. Finally, we will demonstrate a result that allows the construction of explicit examples of these solitons through the Weierstrass representation for maximal surfaces in Lorentz space and we will discuss the possibility of obtaining a complete local characterization.

Neste trabalho, provamos que todas as métricas conformes ao espaço pseudo-Euclidiano ( , ), invariantes pela ação de um grupo de translação ( -1)-dimensional e rotação são gradiente quasi Ricci soliton. Provamos também que todas as métricas conformes a = ( , ̅) , invariante por translação e Ricci flat, são gradiente quasi Ricci solitons. Classificamos todas as variedades de Einstein do tipo = ( , ̅) , onde ̅ , invariantes pela ação do grupo de translação ( -1)-dimensional e Ricci flat com . Se é um gradiente Ricci soliton do tipo = ( , ̅) e a fibra é Ricci flat então é steady e exibimos todas as soluções. Finalmente provamos que se o produto torcido = ( , ̅) for um gradiente Ricci soliton com Ricci flat, e além disso, então é steady. In this work, we prove that all metrics conformal to the pseudo-Euclidean space ( , ), invariant under the action ( -1)-dimensional translation group and also invariants by a pseudo orthogonal group action are gradient Ricci almost solitons. We also prove that all metrics conformal to = ( , ̅) , invariant under the action ( -1)-dimensional translation group and Ricci flat are gradient Ricci almost soliton. We classify all Einstein manifolds of the type = ( , ̅) , where ̅ , invariant under the action ( -1)-dimensional translation group and Ricci flat with . If is gradiente Ricci soliton of type = ( , ̅) and the fiber is Ricci flat then is teady and we provide all such solutions. Trataremos dos espaços homogêneos a dois parâmetros E(κ, τ), principalmente o grupo de Heisenberg E(0,12). Falamos sobre superfícies de ângulo constante neste grupo e sua classificação. Exibiremos também algumas ferramentas necessárias ao longo do estudo e o principal objetivo deste trabalho será demonstrar uma generalização de uma proposição no espaço Euclidiano que nos dá condições para que uma superfície de curvatura média constante homeomorfa a um disco seja totalmente umbílica. Essa generalização se dá utilizando a diferencial de Abresch-Rosenberg [1] e os pares de Codazzi ([17], [11] e [19]). In this work, we talk about the two parameters family of homogeneous spaces E(κ, τ), putting emphasis on the Heisenberg Group E(0,12). We’ll treat the concept of constant angle surfaces in this group and its classification. Also, by exhibiting a few necessary tools along the study, we prove a possible generalization of a known proposition in the euclidean space which gives us conditions to when a constant mean curvature surface homeomorphic to a bi-dimensional disk will be totally umbilical. This proposition’s generalized version is given using the Abresch Rosenberg differential [1] and Codazzi pairs ([17], [11] e [19]).

Neste trabalho, desenvolvemos as bases do conceito de Superfície Isocurvada, introduzido em [2] por Barroso e Roitman, isto é, uma superfície imersa numa variedade 3-dimensional M a qual tem a mesma curvatura Gaussiana induzida por duas métricas diferentes em M. Segundo isso, mostramos um método geométrico para a geração de exemplos não triviais de superfícies isocurvadas elípticas e hiperbólicas no caso particular de M = R^3_+ com as métricas conformes Euclidiana e hiperbólica. Também exibimos alguns exemplos subjacentes ao método acima. In this work we develop the basics of the concept of Isocurved Surface, introduced in [2] by Barroso and Roitman, that is, a surface immersed in a 3-dimensional manifold M and which have the same Gaussian curvature induced by two different metrics. Later on, we show a geometric method to generate non-trivial examples of elliptic and hyperbolic isocurved surfaces for the particular case of M = R3+ and the Euclidean and hyperbolic metrics induced on it. Neste trabalho, é explorada uma solução particular das equações de Maxwell, como vista em [6] e[11], de tal sorte que os campos solução são campos nulos. Isto é feito utilizando três métodos distintos. A solução em questão é tal que as curvas integrais dos campos elétrico e magnético obtidos são círculos de Hopf, ou seja, círculos obtidos pela fibração de Hopf. Ainda que a solução explorada seja particular, os métodos apresentados permitem obter uma infinidade de campos eletromagnéticos nulos. Um desses métodos está relacionado às superfícies mínimas e pode prover uma relação entre a geometria de uma superfície mínima com os campos eletromagnéticos nulos a ela associados. __________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT In this work, a particular solution to the Maxwell's equations is discussed, as seen on [6] and [11],in such a way that the electromagnetic fields obtained as solutions are null vector fields. This is done by using three different methods. The aforementioned solution is such that the field lines of the electricand magnetic fields obtained are Hopf circles, that is, circles obtained using Hopf's fibration. Althoughthe solution exhibited is a particular one, the presented methods allow to generate an infinity of null electromagnetic fields. One of this methods is related to minimal surfaces and may provide a relation between the geometry of a minimal surface and the null electromagnetic fields attached to it.

Neste trabalho, mostraremos uma generalizaçãao para um Teorema de Ribaucour que diz que a envoltória dos planos médios de uma congruência de retas isotrópica é uma superfície mínima. Para isso, usaremos coordenadas locais introduzidas em um trabalho de Guilfoyle e Klingenberg, obtendo condições para que tais coordenadas caracterizem congruências de retas isotrópicas e generalizando essas condições. Obteremos também invariantes naturais induzidos pela métrica de K ahler no espaço das retas orientadas em R3. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT In this work we'll generalize a Theorem of Ribaucour, wich says that the middle envelope of an isotropic congruence is a minimal surface. In order to do that, we'll use local coordinates _rst introduced by Guilfoyle and Klingenber, obtaining conditions so that such coordinates caracterize isotropic congruences and then generalizing these conditions. We'll also obtain natural invariants induced by a K ahler metric on the space of oriented lines in R3.

O tema principal deste trabalho é a chamada aplicação de Gauss em um grupo de Lie G munido de uma métrica bi-invariante. Em particular, com base em, Espirito Santo, Fornari, Frensel, Ripoll, apresentamos uma versão para hipersuperfícies orientadas imersas em G do teorema de Ruh-Vilms sobre a harmonicidade da aplicação de Gauss. Seguindo Masal'tsev, fazemos um estudo detalhado sobre o caso particular importante em que G é a esfera tridimensional S3, munida da métrica canônica, e, inspirados em Urbano e Castro, relacionamos via aplicação de Gauss, superfícies mínimas em S3 com superfícies mínimas lagrangeanas no produto de esferas S2 XS2 munido com a métrica produto canônica. ______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT The main theme of this work is the so-called Gauss map in a Lie group G with a bi-invariant metric. In particular, based in Espirito Santo, Fornari, Frensel, Ripoll, we present a version for oriented hypersurfaces immersed in G of the Ruh-Vilms theorem about the harmonicity of the Gauss map. Following Masal'tsev, we also treat in detail the important special case where G is the three-dimensional sphere S3, with the canonical metric, and relate, inspired by Urbano e Castro, using the Gauss map, minimal surfaces in S3 with minimal Lagrangian surfaces in the product of spheres S2 XS2 whith the canonical product metric.

Let S be a complete surface of constant mean curvature in R3, such that the image under its Gauss map lies in a closed hemisphere, then S will be a right circular cylinder or a plane. Let S be a complete surface in R4, whose mean curvature vector is parallel and non-zero, such that its image under any projection of the generalized Gauss map lies in a closed hemisphere, then S is a right circular cylinder in some R3 ½ R4, or a product of circles.

R3 é dita uma Superfície de Willmore se é ponto crítico do funcional W(X) = RM H2da. Até 1986, os únicos exemplos conhecidos de tais superfícies eram obtidas a partir de projeções estereográficas de superfícies mínimas e compactas mergulhadas em S3. Neste trabalho mostramos a existência de uma infinidade de superfícies de Willmore que não provém de superfícies mínimas em S3, usando os trabalhos de Pinkall, Langer, Singer e Moniot. _____________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT An immersion X : M2 ! R3 is called a Willmore surface if it is an extremal for the functional W(X) = RM H2da. Until 1986, the only examples of such surfaces known so far were stereographic projections of compact embedded minimal surfaces in S3. In this work we prove the existence of an infinite number of Willmore surfaces that do not stem from minimal surfaces in S3, using the works of Pinkall, Langer, Singer and Moniot.
