Background: A temporal relationship between vedolizumab and new-onset spondyloarthritis (SpA) has been suggested., Aims: We evaluated the relationship between vedolizumab initiation and development of new-onset SpA in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) through serial clinical evaluation and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)., Methods: A single-centre prospective observational study of 24 patients with IBD. Patients were eligible if they had active ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease (CD), were initiating vedolizumab, had no prior history of arthritis or SpA and were suitable for serial MRI. A rheumatologist performed clinical evaluation prior to the first dose and 8 and 24 weeks. Axial MRI was evaluated by a blinded central reader and performed at baseline 8 and 24 weeks., Results: Nine tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitor-naïve patients (4 male; mean age 53.2 years; 6 UC; 3 CD) and eight TNF inhibitor-experienced patients (7 male; mean age 48 years; 3 UC; 5 CD) completed all assessments. No patients developed new features of axial arthritis or features of peripheral SpA (inflammatory oligoarthritis, enthesitis, dactylitis, or psoriasis (nail, body, or scalp)). Both groups demonstrated a good intestinal response., Conclusion: Vedolizumab initiation did not induce new features of axial or peripheral SpA after 24 weeks of treatment in TNF inhibitor-experienced or TNF inhibitor-naive patients with IBD., (© 2024 The Author(s). Objective: We aimed to assess: 1. The frequency of axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) according to extra-articular presentation and HLA-B27 status; 2. Clinical and imaging features that distinguish axSpA from non-axSpA; 3. The impact of MRI on diagnosis and classification of axSpA., Methods: The Screening in Axial Spondyloarthritis in Psoriasis, Iritis, Colitis, (SASPIC) study enrolled patients in two multicenter cohorts. Consecutive patients with undiagnosed chronic back pain attending dermatology, ophthalmology, and gastroenterology clinics with PsO, AAU, or IBD, were referred to a local rheumatologist with special expertise in axSpA for a structured diagnostic evaluation. The primary outcome was proportion of patients diagnosed with axSpA by final global evaluation., Results: Frequency of axSpA was 46.7%, 61.6%, and 46.8% in SASPIC-1 cases (n=212) and 23.5%, 57.9%, and 23.3% in SASPIC-2 cases (n=151) with PsO, AAU, or IBD, respectively. Among B27 positives, axSpA was diagnosed in 70%, 74.5%, and 66.7% in SASPIC-1, and in 71.4%, 87.8%, and 55.6% in SASPIC-2 in patients with PsO, AAU, or IBD, respectively. All musculoskeletal clinical features were non-discriminatory. MRI was indicative of axSpA in 60-80% of patients and MRI in all patients (SASPIC-2) versus on-demand (SASPIC-1) led to 25% fewer diagnoses of axSpA in HLA B27 negatives with PsO or IBD. Performance of the ASAS classification criteria was greater with routine MRI (SASPIC-2) though sensitivity was lower than previously reported., Conclusions: Optimal management of patients presenting with PsO, AAU, IBD, and undiagnosed chronic back pain should include referral to a rheumatologist. Objective: To provide a set of living treatment recommendations that will give contemporary guidance on the management of patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) in Canada., Methods: The Spondyloarthritis Research Consortium of Canada (SPARCC), in conjunction with the Canadian Rheumatology Association, organized a treatment recommendations panel composed of rheumatologists, researchers, allied health professionals, and a patient advocate. A Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE)-ADOLOPMENT approach was used, in which existing guidelines were adopted or adapted to a Canadian context. Recommendations were also placed in a health equity framework., Results: Fifty-six recommendations were made for patients with active axSpA, stable axSpA, active or stable axSpA, for comorbidities, and for assessment, screening, and imaging. Recommendations were also made for principles of management, disease monitoring, and ethical considerations., Conclusion: These living treatment recommendations will provide up-to-date guidance for the management of axSpA for Canadian practice. As part of the living model, they will be updated regularly as changes occur in the treatment landscape.

Objective: The objective of this study was to describe the real-world characteristics and clinical status of patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) currently prescribed ixekizumab., Methods: Data were drawn from the Adelphi PsA Plus Disease Specific Programme (DSP), a cross-sectional survey conducted in the United States between September 2021 and March 2022. Rheumatologists provided data for their next five consulting patients currently receiving ixekizumab, including demographic and clinical characteristics, disease severity, treatment history, reasons for treatment choice, satisfaction with current treatment, and current and historic symptom burden. Patients voluntarily completed questionnaires, providing perceptional data on symptom burden and satisfaction with current treatment., Results: Overall, 68 rheumatologists provided data on 275 patients with PsA, 90 of whom completed the voluntary questionnaire. Patients had been prescribed ixekizumab for a mean of 11.7 (SD 10.6) months. Clinical characteristics, disease severity, and symptom burden of patients with PsA improved significantly from ixekizumab initiation to the most recent consultation, including symptom burden, tender and swollen joint counts, and body surface area affected by psoriasis (all P < 0.001). Both rheumatologists and patients were satisfied with ixekizumab treatment and reported improvements in pain and fatigue. Improvements were noted after more than three months of ixekizumab treatment duration and regardless of whether the patients had prior exposure to an advanced therapy or were treatment naïve., Conclusion: Our results indicate that ixekizumab was efficacious in the treatment of PsA in real-world clinical practice, complementing efficacy data from randomized controlled clinical trials. Objective: Although patient outcomes in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) have improved with the advent of advanced therapies, there remains a high unmet need to treat residual disease activity. The objective of the current study was to quantify residual disease activity and burden of disease in Canadian patients with PsA., Methods: This was a multiregion, observational, retrospective analysis of patient data extracted from the Rhumadata and the International Psoriasis and Arthritis Research Team (IPART) registries, analyzing deidentified data from patients who had initiated advanced therapy for the treatment of PsA between January 2010 and December 2019. The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients failing to achieve minimal disease activity (MDA) within 6 months; secondary endpoints included clinical and patient-reported burden of disease. Descriptive statistics included summaries by region, treatment class, and number of prior advanced therapies., Results: One thousand five hundred ninety-six patients were included. The proportions of patients who failed to achieve MDA within 6 months of an advanced therapy were 64.8% in Ontario, 68.3% in Western Canada, 74.8% in Quebec, and 75% in the Atlantic/East region. Failure to achieve MDA was higher among patients receiving an IL-17i compared with a TNFi in all regions except the Atlantic/East. Between 73.2% and 78.6% of patients reported pain at 6 months, and continuing functional impairment varied from 24% in the West to 83.3% in the Atlantic/East., Conclusion: There is substantial burden and unmet need for improved therapies for Canadians with PsA. Objective: To identify factors associated with work-related issues in Canadian patients with axial spondyloarthritis., Methods: Data from 542 Canadian patients who participated in the International Map of Axial Spondyloarthritis online survey were analyzed. Participants who were employed, unemployed, or on short-term disability were included in this analysis. Regression analysis was used to study the association between work-related issues, disease activity (Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index [BASDAI]), and psychological distress (12-item General Health Questionnaire [GHQ-12])., Results: The mean age of surveyed participants was 44.3 (SD 13.9) years, 81% were university educated, and 52.6% employed. A substantial proportion had high disease activity (BASDAI ≥ 4, 72.1%) and psychological distress (GHQ-12 ≥ 3, 53.1%); 81% had work-related issues. This study analyzed responses from a subset of participants who were either employed, unemployed, or on short-term disability (n = 339). Ninety percent of this subset reported at least 1 work-related issue in the year before questionnaire completion, with the most frequent being absenteeism (49.3%) and missing work for healthcare provider visits (42.5%). Factoring in disability benefits eliminated the association between work-related issues and disease activity for all variables except fatigue ( r = 0.217; P = 0.03) and discomfort ( r = 0.196; P = 0.047). Difficulty fulfilling working hours (β 2.342, 95% CI 1.413-3.272) and effect on professional advancement (β 1.426, 95% CI 0.355-2.497) were associated with psychological distress. In the presence of disability benefits, only the effect on professional advancement remained (β 2.304, 95% CI 0.082-4.527)., Conclusion: Work-related issues are associated with worse patient-reported outcomes, both physical and psychological., (Copyright © 2023 by the Journal of Rheumatology.)

Objective: We aimed to compile evidence for the efficacy and safety of therapeutic options for the peripheral arthritis domain of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) for the revised 2021 Group in Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA) treatment recommendations., Methods: A working group consisting of clinicians and patient research partners was convened. We reviewed the evidence from new randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for PsA treatment from February 19, 2013, to August 28, 2020. We used the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE)-informed approach to derive evidence for the classes of therapeutic options for 3 patient groups: (1) naïve to treatment, (2) inadequate response to conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (csDMARDs), and (3) inadequate response to biologic DMARDs (bDMARDs). Recommendations were derived through consensus meetings., Results: The evidence review included 69 RCTs. We derived GRADE evidence for each class of therapeutic options and achieved consensus for the recommendations. For patients naïve to treatment, the working group strongly recommends csDMARDs (methotrexate, sulfasalazine, leflunomide) and phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitors, and emphasizes regular assessment and early escalation to achieve treatment target. bDMARDs (tumor necrosis factor inhibitors [TNFi], interleukin 17 inhibitors [IL-17i], IL-12/23i, IL-23i) and Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi) are also strongly recommended. For patients with inadequate response to csDMARDs, we strongly recommend TNFi, IL-17i, IL-12/23i, IL-23i, and JAKi. For those who had prior experience with bDMARDs, we strongly recommend a second TNFi, IL-17i, IL-23i, and JAKi. The evidence supporting nonpharmacological interventions was very low. An expert panel conditionally recommends adequate physical activity, smoking cessation, and diet to control weight gain., Conclusion: Evidence supporting optimal therapy for the peripheral arthritis domain of PsA was compiled for the revised 2021 GRAPPA treatment recommendations., (Copyright © 2023 by the Journal of Rheumatology.)

Objectives: The risk of arterial vascular events is increased in patients with psoriatic disease (PsD), however, limited information exists about the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in these patients. We assessed the incidence and risk factors for VTE in patients with PsD., Methods: A multicentre cohort study was conducted involving patients with PsD followed prospectively from 1994 to 2020. Information about VTE, including pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep venous thrombosis (DVT), was obtained from provincial hospitalization databases. The incidence rate and cumulative probability of developing VTE were computed. Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess the association between risk factors, including comorbidities and disease-related factors, and the first VTE., Results: A total 2,433 patients with PsD were analysed with 26 incident VTE (7 DVT alone, 12 PE alone, and 7 both PE and DVT). The incidence rates of the first VTE, DVT, and PE were 12, 6.5, and 8.8 events per 10,000 patient-years, respectively. The cumulative proportion of individuals developing VTE was 4.6% by 80 years of age. Independent predictors for VTE included older age, diabetes mellitus, and corticosteroid usage (all p<0.05)., Conclusion: Older patients with PsD, those with diabetes, and those using corticosteroids are at a higher risk of developing VTE. Introduction: Autoantibody tests are commonly ordered when screening for rheumatic diseases. Rheumatoid factor (RF) and antinuclear antibody (ANA) have low positive predictive values in general practice. Overuse of diagnostic tests can result in an increase in unnecessary referrals, patient anxiety, and further costs., Objective: The objective was to evaluate the utilization patterns, appropriateness, and associated costs of tests including ANA, extractable nuclear antibodies (ENA), anti-double stranded DNA (anti-dsDNA), RF, and HLA-B27 in patients referred to rheumatologists., Methods: A review was conducted of consecutive referrals (accepted and rejected) using university rheumatologists' practices over one year. Inappropriate investigations, and associated costs were analyzed. Tests were considered appropriate if at least one criterion for a specific disease was provided., Results: Of 638 referrals the most common reported reasons for referral were: spondyloarthropathies (SpA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and lupus (SLE). Prior to referral: 61% had undergone ANA testing at least once, ANA was repeated in one third; 19% had ENA and 21% had anti-dsDNA. 20% had ANA testing with no clinical indication. Half of ENA and anti-dsDNA testing was in the context of a negative ANA. RF was requested in 65% and in close to one third, there was no clinical suspicion of inflammatory arthritis., Conclusion: Despite the recommendations by CRA Choosing Wisely Campaign, at least 50% of laboratory investigations, including RF, ANA, ENA, and anti-dsDNA, are inappropriately ordered. Objective: We aimed to estimate the proportion of underdiagnosis and undertreatment of cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) in an international multicenter cohort of patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA)., Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted of patients with psoriatic disease from the International Psoriasis and Arthritis Research Team cohort. The presence of modifiable CVRF [diabetes, hypertension (HTN), dyslipidemia, smoking, elevated body mass index, and central obesity] and the use of appropriate therapies for HTN and dyslipidemia were determined. The 10-year CV risk was calculated according to the Framingham Risk Score. Physician adherence with guidelines for the treatment of dyslipidemia and HTN was assessed. Regression analysis was used to assess predictors of undertreatment of HTN and dyslipidemia., Results: A total of 2254 patients (58.9% PsA, 41.1% psoriasis) from 8 centers in Canada, the United States, and Israel were included. Their mean age was 52 ± 13.8 years and 53% were men. Of the patients, 87.6% had at least 1 modifiable CVRF, 45.1% had HTN, 49.4% dyslipidemia, 13.3% diabetes, 75.3% were overweight or obese, 54.3% central obesity, and 17.3% were current smokers. We found 59.2% of patients with HTN and 65.6% of patients with dyslipidemia were undertreated. Undertreatment was associated with younger age (≤ 50 yrs), having psoriasis, and male sex., Conclusion: In real-world settings, a large proportion of patients with psoriasis and PsA were underdiagnosed and undertreated for HTN and dyslipidemia. Strategies to improve the management of CVRF in psoriatic patients are warranted.

Objective: To develop preliminary treat-to-target (T2T) recommendations for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) for Canadian daily practice., Methods: A task force composed of expert Canadian dermatologists and rheumatologists performed a needs assessment among Canadian clinicians treating these diseases as well as an extensive literature search on the outcome measures used in clinical trials and practice., Results: Based on results from the needs assessment and literature search, the task force established 5 overarching principles and developed 8 preliminary T2T recommendations., Conclusion: The proposed recommendations should improve management of psoriasis and PsA in Canadian daily practice. However, these recommendations must be further validated in a real-world observational study to ensure that their use leads to better longterm outcomes.

Objectives: Despite advances in the management of systemic vasculitis (SV), direct consequences of the disease, leading to impairments in physical and mental function can cause disability. The objective of this study was to assess work limitations in SV., Methods: SV patients were recruited from a tertiary care clinic. Work disabled (WD) was defined as not working, early retirement, or reduced hours at work. Participants who were working at the time of enrolment completed the Work Limitations Questionnaire (WLQ). Other work-related measures were self-reported by questionnaire. Disease outcome measures (Vasculitis Damage Index (VDI), Health Assessment Questionnaire-Disability Index (HAQ) and pain visual analogue score (VAS)) were obtained at time of WLQ., Results: 103 participants were enrolled with mean age 58 (SD17), 60% females, 48% with anti-neutrophilic cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV), 26% with large vessel vasculitis (LVV) and 26% with other types of SV. 22 (21%) were WD secondary to SV, 29 (28%) were working and 52 (51%) subjects were not working for reasons other than SV. SV-related WD subjects were more likely to have a lower level of education (p=0.003) than non-WD subjects. The VDI was higher in SV-related WD vs. non-WD subjects: 1.9 (SD 2.7) vs. 2.9 (SD 1.4); p=0.015. 38 subjects were working in some capacity and completed the WLQ; their productivity loss was 8.2% and this was highly correlated with HAQ and pain VAS (rho=0.585 and rho=0.458, respectively)., Conclusions: SV-related work disability occurred in 21% and was associated with lower levels of education, higher disease severity and worse functional outcomes.

Objective: To determine the rate of low health literacy in the rheumatoid arthritis (RA) population in southwestern Ontario., Methods: For the study, 432 patients with RA were contacted, and 311 completed the assessment. The health literacy levels of the participants were estimated using 4 assessment tools administered in the following order: the Single Item Literacy Screener (SILS), the Medical Term Recognition Test (METER), the Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy in Medicine (REALM), and the Shortened Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (STOFHLA)., Results: The rates of low literacy as estimated by STOFHLA, REALM, METER, and SILS were 14.5%, 14.8%, 14.1%, and 18.6%, respectively. All 4 assessment tools were statistically significantly correlated. STOFHLA, REALM, and METER were strongly correlated with each other (r = 0.59-0.79), while SILS only demonstrated moderate correlations with the other assessment tools (r = 0.33-0.45). Multiple linear regression and binary logistic regression analyses revealed that low levels of education and a lack of daily reading activity were common predictors of low health literacy. Using a non-English primary language at home was found to be a strong predictor of low health literacy in STOFHLA, REALM, and METER. Male sex was found to be a significant predictor of poor performance in REALM and METER, but not STOFHLA., Conclusion: Low health literacy is an important issue in the southwestern Ontario RA population. About 1 in 7 patients with RA may not have the necessary skills to become involved in making decisions regarding their personal health. Rheumatologists should be aware of the low health literacy levels of patients with RA and should consider identifying patients at risk of low health literacy.

Background: Nail changes are common in psoriatic arthritis (PsA), with varying relationships existing between skin, nail, and joint disease., Objective: To further characterize relationships between nail changes, psoriasis, and joint involvement in PsA patients., Methods: One hundred eighty-eight PsA patients had skin, fingernail, and rheumatological assessments completed. Hand and fingernail photographs were taken and reviewed by a dermatologist., Results: Higher swollen joint counts were associated with distal interphalangeal (DIP)/periungual psoriasis (P=.001), more splinter hemorrhages (P=.006), and any nail bed change (P=.03). Higher tender joint counts were associated with rough onychorrhexis (P<.001), DIP/periungual psoriasis (P=.03), red lunula (P=.001), nail crumbling (P=.046), any nail matrix (P=.03), and nail bed change (P=.03). Joint involvement was associated with same-digit nail changes; strongest association was swollen or tender DIP with subungual hyperkeratosis, odds ratio=26.6 (95% CI, 5.1-139.1)., Conclusion: The DIP/periungual psoriasis and specific nail changes were associated with higher joint counts and certain nail changes with same-digit joint involvement., (© The Author(s) 2015.)

Objective: The Canadian Rheumatology Association (CRA) and the Spondyloarthritis Research Consortium of Canada (SPARCC) have collaborated to update the recommendations for the management of spondyloarthritis (SpA)., Methods: A working group was assembled and consisted of the SPARCC executive committee, rheumatologist leaders from SPARCC collaborating sites, Canadian rheumatologists from across the country with an interest in SpA (both academic and community), a rheumatology trainee with an interest in SpA, an epidemiologist/health services researcher, a member of the CRA executive, a member of the CRA therapeutics committee, and a patient representative from the Canadian Spondylitis Association. An extensive review was conducted of literature published from 2007 to 2014 involving the management of SpA. The working group created draft recommendations using multiple rounds of Web-based surveys and an in-person conference. A survey was sent to the membership of the CRA to obtain an extended review that was used to finalize the recommendations., Results: Guidelines for the management of SpA were created. Part I focuses on the principles of management of SpA in Canada and includes 6 general management principles, 5 ethical considerations, target groups for treatment recommendations, 2 wait time recommendations, and recommendations for disease monitoring. Also included are 6 modifications for application to juvenile SpA., Conclusion: These recommendations were developed based on current literature and applied to a Canadian healthcare context. It is hoped that the implementation of these recommendations will promote best practices in the treatment of SpA.

Objectives: To investigate differences in response to tumor necrosis factor inhibitor treatment (TNFi) in seropositive (rheumatoid factor positive; RF+) versus seronegative (RF-) patients with established RA as measured by the Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index (HAQ-DI) and pain., Methods: RA patients from an established RA cohort were studied according to rheumatoid factor (RF) status for change in HAQ-DI and pain (0-3 VAS) one year after starting treatment with a TNFi., Results: There were 238 patients treated with TNFi who had follow-up data (178 RF+ and 60 RF-). Disease duration was longer in RF+ vs RF- (12+8 vs 8+8 years) but the proportion of females (82% vs 72%, P=0.7), baseline HAQ-DI (1.44+0.63 vs 1.41+0.63, P=0.8) and pain (1.92+0.67 vs 1.93+0.67, P=0.9) were not different. The mean duration of treatment of first TNFi was 2.8 vs 2.3 years, P=0.1 and 68% of RF+ vs 62% of RF- were still receiving first TNFi at last visit (P=0.5). For patients with data at baseline and one year, the one-year HAQ-DI change was significantly greater in 90 RF+ patients (-0.356) versus 38 RF- patients (-0.126; P=0.04). The mean pain improvement was also greater in 77 RF+ vs 32 RF- patients (-0.725 vs -0.332 respectively; P=0.03). Numbers are small, data are missing and comorbidities, DAS28 and anti-CCP were not collected., Conclusion: Despite limitations in the data, in established RA after failure of DMARDs, RF+ patients may be more responsive to TNFi therapy as measured by changes in HAQ-DI and pain., Innovation: There may be a better response to TNFi in RA if RF positive for function and pain.

Objective: Rheumatologists triage referrals to assess those patients who may benefit from early intervention. We describe a referral tool and formally evaluate its sensitivity for urgent and early inflammatory arthritis (EIA) referrals., Methods: All referrals received on a standardized referral tool were reviewed by a rheumatologist and, based on the information conferred, assigned a triage grade using a previously described triage system. Each referral was also dichotomized as suspected EIA or not. After the initial rheumatologic assessment, the diagnosis was recorded and a consultation grade, blinded to referral grade, was assigned to each case. Agreement between referral and consultation grades was assessed. A regression analysis was performed to determine factors that predicted truly urgent referrals including EIA., Results: We evaluated 696 referrals. A total of 210 (30.2%) were categorized as urgent at the time of consultation. The referral tool was able to successfully detect 169 of these referrals (sensitivity 80.5%, specificity 79.4%). EIA occurred in 95 (13.6%); of those referrals, 86 were correctly classified as urgent at the time of triage (sensitivity 90.5%, specificity 69.6%). Items that helped correctly discriminate urgent or EIA referrals included patient age < 60, duration of disease, morning stiffness, patient-reported joint swelling, a personal or family history of psoriasis, urgency as rated by referring physician, prior assessment by a rheumatologist, elevated C-reactive protein, and a positive rheumatoid factor., Conclusion: A 1-page referral tool that includes parts completed by the referring physician and patient has good sensitivity to detect urgent referrals including EIA.

Objective: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) has a diverse range of clinical manifestations, both articular and extra-articular. Although the association of PsA with skin changes is well established, the relationship of PsA with psoriatic nail changes remains relatively unexplored., Methods: This report reviews the current literature surrounding the association of PsA with nail changes. A review of the literature was completed using PubMed, MEDLINE, and EMBASE in September 2013, encompassing years 1964-2012., Results: A total of 21 articles were reviewed. On average, 66% [standard deviation (SD) 17.7] of PsA patients had nail changes. The type of nail changes and their associations varied widely between studies., Conclusions: Studies of nail changes in PsA are highly variable with a wide range of results. Given the variability of results that were observed in this review, our recommendations are that further large studies on nail changes in patients with PsA should be conducted., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier Inc. Multidisciplinary self-management programs are important in inflammatory arthritis as adjunctive treatment. Patients often have excuses as to why they do not attend these programs. The purpose of this study was to determine whether an intervention of televised testimonials from rheumatologists and allied health professionals increases attendance at a multidisciplinary education day for rheumatology patients seen in a large university hospital clinic. This was an RCT of intervention: playing televised interviews in the waiting room where rheumatology patients were seen versus no TV. There was a total of 6 months (3 months with and 3 without the televised interview playing). All eligible patients who attended the rheumatology outpatient clinic were then tracked to determine whether they attended a subsequent education day over the next 10 months. The sample size was calculated to have a 15% increase in attendance at the education days. There was a 20% increase in attendees at the multidisciplinary education days for patients who saw the televised testimonials. Sixty-three patients who viewed the testimonials (2.17% of 2,908) attended the education day compared to 39 who did not receive the intervention (1.80% of 2,168); however, the increase was not statistically significant (p = 0.36). Attendance of eligible patients increased using televised testimonials; however, the increase was not significant as the rates of attendance were still very low in both groups. Many eligible patients did not attend the program. Other interventions are necessary to encourage attendance in a multidisciplinary program.
