Information Security Awareness (ISA) is a significant concept that got considerable attention recently and can assist in minimizing the risks associated with information security breaches. Several measurement scales have been developed in this regard, as measuring users’ ISA is paramount. Although ISA specific scales are very important, yet what methodological rigor they use in terms of initial conceptualization of ISA, data collection and analysis during the development, and scale validation of such scales are some unknown aspects. Therefore, we provide a comprehensive review of the existing ISA specific scales to address all the above concerns. A popular method, PRISMA, is utilized, and a total of 24 articles that match with criteria of this research are included for the final in-depth analysis. Also, a holistic evaluation framework is developed containing three phases and 19 criteria. Findings revealed that most studies treat ISA as a multi-dimensional construct, and ISA researchers rarely conduct both pilot testing and pre-text evaluation while validating and refining the initial scales. Additionally, several articles did not report some of the essential elements used for checking the rigor of factor analysis, and evidence for validities of the identified scales is inadequate. Consequently, existing ISA specific scales must be improved both in terms of the methodological thoroughness of the scale development procedure and their validities. Moreover, not only justifying why the development of a new scale is necessary, but also improving the quality of the existing scales by doing multiple iterations is significant in the future. Likewise, the inclusion of all the dimensions of ISA, while generating the initial items pool is an important aspect to be considered. A thorough discussion, recommendations for future research, conclusions, and study limitations are provided.

Intoxication of vitamin D is not a common case in pediatrics. Vitamin D supplements are sold as OTC drugs; however, there is a lack of public education about the permissible limits of vitamin D intake which may lead to vitamin D toxicity (VDT). This review aims to give insights to readers or practitioners about the clinical toxicology of vitamin D in pediatrics, which includes the mechanism of VDT, case reports, and the management of vitamin D poisoning. VDT refers to serum 25(OH)D levels, particularly when the level exceeds 100 ng/mL (250 nmol/L) or is defined as hypervitaminosis D. Hypercalcemia is a common condition of vitamin D toxicity. Vitamin D and its metabolites in moderate levels can induce hypercalcemia, as indicated by the elevation of osteoclastic bone resorption, the presence of calcium in renal tubules, intestinal calcium intake (through increased production of calcium-binding protein in enterocytes), and the decrease of parathyroid hormone synthesis. VDT in pediatrics can be managed by discontinuing vitamin D intake; using activated charcoal, furosemide, prednisone, and calcitonin; rehydration using intravenous sodium chloride 0.9%; and dextrose fluid therapy. It is important for parents to be more careful when providing vitamin D to their children.

The high dropout rate, lack of learners’ motivation, and MOOC users’ diversity are significant issues in MOOCs. In this sense, gamification is used to investigate if it can help to increase MOOC learners’ motivation and engagement, leading to a continued usage scenario. Further, this article aims to propose a theoretical model to identify the factors affecting MOOC learners’ continuance and empirically measure these factors. The model is based on the Expectation Confirmation Model (ECM) with additional constructs of motivation and gamification. Data is collected from 206 university students using an online survey. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is used for data analysis. The results show that motivation, satisfaction, and perceived usefulness influence continuous intention, with satisfaction being the most significant predictor ( $\beta =0.373$ , p < 0.000). Motivation, confirmation, and perceived usefulness have a significant positive effect on satisfaction. Among the three gamification categories, achievement has the highest impact on motivation ( $\beta =0.208$ , p < 0.001), followed by the social category ( $\beta =0.143$ , p < 0.032). The effect of the immersion category is found to be non-significant. Based on the results, appropriate theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of students through the achievement of programme outcomes (PO) for two programmes offered at the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering (JKKP), namely, Chemical Engineering and Biochemical Engineering. Implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach from the 2005/2006 session has opened a new chapter in the process of teaching and learning (TnL) at the departmental level in particular. Special emphasis was given to the ability of students to use, apply and relate engineering knowledge in order to solve complex engineering problems. Therefore, regular monitoring is important to look at the trend of PO student achievement for each session. The assessment was conducted by distributing questionnaires to final-year students of the department at Majlis Mesra Bakal Graduan (MMBG), an event that is held at the end of the second semester of every session. Questionnaires were distributed to students to get their feedback on the implementation of the programme during their four years at JKKP and the proposed improvements to the programme and their evaluation of the performance of the POs set by the department for both programmes. Comparison of the results from sessions 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 shows a slight decrease in terms of performance of the PO achievements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Identification and minimization of error sources an important issues in experimental investigations. Mainly in micro-scale problems, precise settings should be applied to high-tech test beds to reduce disturbance and induced motion. An experimental study is conducted to assess the role of induced forces and velocity fields in a particulate system used for particle identification and separation. Two main effects caused by disturbances are sampling errors and induced motion in the channel, either on fluid or dispersed phases. Different disturbance scenarios are implemented on the test bed and then the system response is reported. In order to assess induced motion as a result of applied forces, microscopic imaging of particle movement in the channel and image processing of the results, are performed. Results of particle sampling indicate that optimized pneumatic settings should be implemented to secure a safe level of sampling error. Results for induced flow show that the velocity field can affect the operation of the manipulation mechanism. Methods for capturing the induced force and velocity fields can be implemented in the arelevant applications, such as micro-particle systems and cellular studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a robust pre-processing algorithm based on spatial fuzzy clustering for a model based lip contour extraction is presented. This transformation aims at increasing discrimination between lips and skin to enhance the lip contour detection. For each pixel in the transformed data, a and b components of CIELAB color space are used as features in spatial fuzzy clustering phase. The employed clustering method takes into account both the distributions of data in feature space and the spatial interactions between neighboring pixels during clustering. Then, an elliptical and a Gaussian mask delete the pixels around lip that were previously clustered as lip pixels. Finally, a model is fitted upon the lip for extracting the lip contour. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, pseudo hue segmentation and spatial fuzzy c-mean clustering were implemented and compared to our method. The results on VidTIMIT and M2VTS databases show that the novel scheme is able to extract the lip contour even in the situations that the nose and neck appeared in the lip region. Empirical results showed our method outperformed the present state-of-art methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The anti-inflammatory drug predinisolone (1) was reduced to 20β-hydroxyprednisolone (2) by the marine endophytic fungus Penicilium lapidosum isolated from an alga. The structural elucidation of 2 was achieved by 1D- and 2D-NMR, MS, IR data. Although, 2 is a known compound previously obtained through microbial transformation, the data provided failed to prove the C20 stereochemistry. To solve this issue, DFT and TD-DFT calculations have been carried out at the B3LYP/6–31+G (d,p) level of theory in gas and solvent phase. The absolute configuration of C20 was eventually assigned by combining experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra and 3JHH chemical coupling constants.

- Abstract
Estimation, interpolation, forecasting and modeling are common engineering methodologies used to fit models to specific historical data. Recently, artificial neural networks have proven to be good candidates for modeling incorporating historical data. Also, fuzzy methods simulate complex and unpredictable systems in real-world applications. Adaptive filters, time series and statistical methods are other conventional estimating methods. Most of these methods first assume a parametric model for the system and then try to optimize the parameters so that the output error is minimized. This methodology (parametric modeling) forces a fixed structure to the behavior of the system. This causes a limitation in functionality and performance of the estimation process as well as reducing the degree of freedom in general. However, Reza's algorithm uses a sample of historical data, (Xi,Yi, to estimate a value for Y0 corresponding to a new value of X0. It considers several possible ranges of solutions to calculate the final estimate of Y0. Next, a candidate is introduced for each range of solutions (based on heuristic logic and engineering sense). Later on, these candidates are combined together using a weighted average method to reach a final solution for Y0. This algorithm has been applied to several real-world data sets. The results show a relatively high accuracy (approx. 7%) in the sense of mean absolute percentage error. Reza is a sample-based algorithm, and in contrast to the other estimating methods, it does not force any parametric model to the system. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

GRAPHENE oxide ,POLYVINYLIDENE fluoride ,NANOFILTRATION ,CONTACT angle ,METHYLENE blue ,SODIUM sulfate - Abstract
In this work, the novel direct synthesis method of dimethylacetamide-based graphene oxide (GO) was performed through electrochemical exfoliation assisted by commercially available single-tail sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) surfactant. Then, the synthesised GO (SDS–GO) was incorporated into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) solution to produce a nanofiltration (NF) membrane through the phase immersion method. The addition of GO into the preparation of membrane solution alters the membrane morphology and improves the hydrophilicity. TiO
2 was also used as an additive for the NF membrane fabrication to further increase the membrane hydrophilicity. The fabricated PVDF/SDS–GO/TiO2 and PVDF/SDS–GO NF membranes were compared with pure PVDF membrane. Then, the fabricated NF membranes were tested for methylene blue (MB) rejection with 10 ppm MB concentration. On the basis of the dead-end cell measurement operated at the pressure of 2 bar, the PVDF/SDS–GO/TiO2 presents high MB rejection (92.76%) and the highest dye flux (7.770 L/m2 h). This dye flux value was sevenfold higher than that of pure PVDF membrane (1.146 L/m2 h) which was due to the utilisation of both GO and TiO2 that improved the membrane hydrophilicity as indicated by the lowest contact angle (64.0 ± 0.11°). High porosity (57.46%) also resulted in the highest water permeability (4.187 L/m2 h bar) of the PVDF/SDS–GO/TiO2 NF membrane. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Objective: It has been suggested that low frequency stimulation (LFS) exerts itsinhibitory effect on epileptogenesis through adenosine receptors activation. In thepresent study, effect of different LFS frequencies on A1 and A2A receptors gene expressionwas investigated in perforant path kindled seizures.Materials and Methods: Animals were kindled by perforant path stimulation.Afterdischarges were recorded from the dentate gyrus. LFS (0.5, 1 and 5 Hz) wasapplied at the end of each kindling stimulation. On the 7th day, A1 and A2A receptorsgene expression were evaluated in the dentate gyrus. Results: Application of different LFS frequencies retarded the kindling acquisition. Also, it decreased the afterdischarge durations and behavioural seizure stages 4and 5 significantly. LFS application prevented the kindling induced decrease in theA1 receptor gene expression. On the other hand, LFS attenuated the level of A2Areceptor gene expression in the dentate gyrus. LFS had the most effect at thefrequency of 5 Hz.Conclusion: It may be suggested that antiepileptogenic effects of LFS is mediatedsomehow through changes in the gene expression of adenosine A1 (which hasinhibitory effects) and A2A (which has excitatory effects) receptors. These effectsmight be somehow frequency dependent.

To date, a high energy demand has led to massive research efforts towards improved gas-separation techniques for more energy-efficient and environmenttally friendly methods. One of the potential alternative energies is biogas produced from the fermentation of liquid waste generated from the oil-extraction process, which is known as palm oil mill effluent (POME). Basically, the gas produced from the POME fermentation process consists mainly of a CO2 and H2 gas mixture. CO2 is known as an anthropogenic greenhouse gas, which contributes towards the climate change phenomenon. Hence, it is crucial to determine a suitable technique for H2 separation and purification with good capability for CO2 capture, as this will reduce CO2 emission to the environment as well. This paper reviewed the current gas-separation techniques that consist of absorption, adsorption and a membrane in order to determine the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques towards the efficiency of the separation system. Crucial aspects for gas-separation techniques such as energy, economic, and environmental considerations are discussed, and a potential biohydrogen and biogas-upgrading technique for industrial POME application is presented and concluded in this paper. Based on the comparison on these aspects, water scrubbing is found to be the best technique to be used in the biogas-upgrading industry, followed by membrane and chemical scrubbing as well as PSA. Hence, these guidelines are justified for selecting the best gas-upgrading technique to be used in palm oil mill industry applications.

The layer-by-layer method is a technique used for the fabrication of ultra-thin defect free films which involves alternating sequential adsorption of polycations and polyanions, while conducting polymer is characterized by a conjugated structure of alternating single and double bonds. The use of layer-by-layer in producing a membrane for separation has received considerable interest due to its properties. However, the introduction of conducting polymer as a base membrane is relatively new. Therefore, in this review, we discuss in detail three types of LBL techniques (dip, spin and spray layer-by-layer) along with their parameters. We will also summarize current developments on the characterization of modified membrane prepared using the layer-by-layer techniques in terms of morphology, physical and chemical properties, and separation performances.

In this study, some non-specific immune responses and hematological parameters in rainbow trout juveniles (16g mean weight) and their resistance to Streptococcusis were invetigated following dietary administration of 3 concentrations (0.5, 1, 1.5g/kg of feed) of Echinacea purpurea extract. The non-pecific immune response and hematological parameter compared with control group for 60 days. Evaluated parameters included were of C3, C4, (complement components), superoxide ions (respiratory burst), lysozyme activity, number of WBC, percentage of blood lymphocytes, monocytes and neutrophils. At the end of trial, the relative survival rate (RSR) of fish was evaluated against S. iniae. The results showed that the levels of C3, lysozyme activity, superoxide ions, number of WBC and percentage of neutrophils in the experiment groups (the highest concentration, 1.5g/kg of feed) were increased significantly compared to the control group. Whereas, no significant difference was found in the value of C4 and the percentage of monocytes and lymphocytes in comparison to the control group. The relative survival rates of fish following challenge with Streptococcus iniae, were 91.11 and 44.44 percent in experiment (Echinacea purpurea, concentration of 1.5g/kg of feed) and control group, respectively. In conclusion, the results of the present study demonstrated that Echinacea purpurea. extract enhanced the non-specific immune system and fish resistance against streptococcusis, suggesting that this extract might be used as immunostimulant in fish feed.

- Abstract
Background and Objective: People with adult-onset hearing loss (AoHL) are at increased dementia risk. In this study, we explore potential aetiological mechanisms by synthesising the evidence on the association between AoHL and neuropathological, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), blood and imaging biomarkers of dementia., Methods: We systematically searched electronic databases from inception to 30 April 2024 for cross-sectional and longitudinal studies, including quantitative data on the association between AoHL and dementia biomarkers. Study quality was assessed with the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT)., Results: Sixty-six studies reporting 63 cross-sectional and 10 longitudinal analyses were included. Twenty-one studies met all MMAT quality criteria. We report a narrative synthesis due to the heterogeneity of the included studies. In CSF-based or blood-based assays or imaging, five out of six cross-sectional analyses found that AoHL was associated with elevated in vivo tau levels, whilst four out of 17 reported a link with elevated in vivo β-amyloid measures. One longitudinal analysis identified an association between AoHL and a steeper increase of CSF tau, but not Aβ
42 , levels over time. Twenty-five out of 44 cross-sectional and six out of nine longitudinal analyses identified associations between AoHL and grey matter atrophy of the temporal regions, particularly the medial temporal lobe. Studies using other biomarkers had inconsistent findings., Conclusions: AoHL was usually associated with more temporal regions grey matter atrophy both cross-sectionally and longitudinally, and elevated in vivo tau but not β-amyloid. Increasing atrophy and higher tau, leading to decreased cognitive reserve may be how hearing loss increases dementia risk., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2024. Rationale: Adolescent inhalant use is an understudied and undertreated disorder, particularly in females. Chronic exposure to inhalants, like toluene, can have long-lasting effects on behavior. However, most animal studies lack the incorporation of both sexes and do not focus on the abstinence period., Objective: We assessed the behavioral effects during prolonged abstinence following repeated toluene inhalation in adolescent male and female rats., Methods: We repeatedly exposed adolescent male and female Sprague Dawley rats to toluene vapor (1500 or 3000 ppm) for 6 days using the conditioned place preference (CPP) procedure. We tested drug-associated context preference, locomotion, anxiety-like behavior, object memory, social preference, and cognitive flexibility across 22 days of abstinence., Results: In females, 3000 ppm toluene increased CPP on days 8 and 22 of abstinence but this effect did not reach significance in males. Instead, males showed a significant increase in locomotion on days 7 and 21. Toluene also impaired social novelty preference and reversal learning during long-term abstinence, but not anxiety-like behavior or object recognition memory., Conclusions: Our rodent findings suggest that female inhalant users may show persistent drug preference during abstinence following chronic use. Furthermore, prolonged cognitive and social deficits should be addressed in treatment programs for adolescents., Competing Interests: Declarations. - Abstract
Background: In healthcare settings, there can be a fine distinction between genuine performance management and vexatious complaints occurring in the context of bullying. The most common manifestation of such behaviour involves repetitive interpersonal abusive behaviours within the context of a power hierarchy. These interactions might well be experienced as bullying behaviour; however, the interpersonal dynamics underpinning such behaviours remains largely unexplored., Objective: This paper offers a psychological perspective on bullying and harassment and adopts a psychodynamic case study approach, utilising a case vignette involving a senior and junior doctor within a general practice context. Conflict can be mitigated by understanding the intra- and interpersonal dynamics that interfere with rational performance management., Discussion: Psychological processes such as projection, displacement and projective identification are useful in understanding the genesis of bullying and harassment within demanding workplaces. Reflecting upon the psychological processes underpinning such conflict might help mitigate coercive workplace behaviour.

- Abstract
Objective: Establishing the cause of hearing loss (HL) is important and rewarding, though not without its challenges. While our ability to identify the etiology for HL has improved with advances in scientific knowledge, a significant proportion of cases remain of unknown etiology. Recent protocol changes within the NHS Genomic Medicine Service support the utilization of the HL gene panel test, rather than individual gene tests. In light of these changes, determining the yield of these more extensive panel tests is important in informing future practice., Study Design: Retrospective study., Setting: The Cochlear Implant (CI) Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH)., Methods: Four hundred seventy-six children with profound HL were identified from a database of referrals to the GOSH CI Department. Data on etiology of HL including genetic diagnosis was collected from hospital notes on an electronic patient records system and hospital genetics database., Results: We identified a positive result in 163/476 (34%) cases through the gene panel test, representing an additional 19% yield to current level 1 investigations. Genetic HL, including both syndromic (including those not covered by the HL gene panel) and nonsyndromic (209/476, 44%) was the most common etiology in our cohort. Perinatal, intrauterine, ototoxicity, meningitis, and encephalitis categories altogether comprised 97/476 (20%) cases., Conclusion: Gene panel testing provides significant additional yield over current level 1 investigations which include GJB2 testing only. This has far-reaching implications for how we optimize investigations into HL in children and counsel families, and for future early interventions., (© 2024 American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation.)
