High-throughput screening based on molecular simulation, machine learning and black-box optimization identifies promising candidates for forming self-assembled peptide vesicles.

BACKGROUND Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) also referred to as Digital Eye Strain, describes a group of eye and vision-related problems that result from prolonged computer, tablet or cell phone usage. Ever since the advent of the COVID pandemic, there has been a significant increase in the amount of time spent in front of the screen, be it for online classes or working from home. We wanted to assess the prevalence of computer vision syndrome among medical, dental, nursing and physiotherapy students of Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana. METHODS This was a prospective study conducted for one month among students aged 18-22 years. A total of 75 students were randomly selected from the four colleges namely Christian Medical College, Christian Dental College, College of Physiotherapy and College of Nursing, Ludhiana. The questionnaire was filled and the responses were noted. The responses were then compared to the ocular surface disease index (OSDI). The students were divided into 4 groups namely No / Mild / Moderate and Severe disease. The students belonging to the groups mild, moderate and severe disease were sent to the Department of Ophthalmology, Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana for evaluation and further management of CVS. RESULTS The study showed that the prevalence of CVS was 48 %, 34.7 %, 12 % and 5.3 % for no disease, mild disease, moderate disease, and severe disease respectively. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of CVS in our study was found to be 52.0%.

BACKGROUND Ocular trauma is a major cause of preventable monocular blindness and visual impairment worldwide. Thorough knowledge of comprehensive management of all types of ocular trauma is of utmost importance in the visual prognosis of such patients. Nurses are an integral part of emergency care. The objectives of this study were to assess the knowledge of emergency management of ocular trauma among the nursing staff and final year B.Sc. nursing students at a tertiary care hospital in northern India and suggest methods to enhance the knowledge if required. METHODS This prospective questionnaire-based study was conducted in the Department of Ophthalmology, at a tertiary care hospital in northern India to assess the nursing staff and final year B.Sc. nursing students about their knowledge of emergency management of ocular trauma. A total of 82 participants were randomly selected from the nursing staff as well as the B.Sc. final year nursing students and were asked to answer a questionnaire, based on their knowledge of the emergency management of ocular trauma. Data recorded was analysed using SPSS version 26. RESULTS The maximum score was 30 for answering the questions in the questionnaire. The mean score was found to be 23 among the nursing staff and a mean score of 21 among nursing students. A better overall score was noted among subjects who had experience working in Ophthalmology and Emergency Care. CONCLUSIONS It was found that there was a significant relationship between knowledge about emergency management of ocular trauma and variables like gender and work experience in the Department of Ophthalmology and Emergency Care. However, there was no significant association between knowledge of management of ocular trauma and the total number of working years. Knowledge regarding concepts about chemical injury was found to be low in all groups. Training and updating of knowledge on all aspects of ocular trauma must be done with an emphasis on emergency management during their posting in the Department of Ophthalmology and Emergency Care.

Ocular trauma has been described as one of the major aetiologies of monocular and non-congenital visual impairment and blindness in all parts of the world. Eye trauma constitutes 7% of all bodily injuries and 10%–15% of all eye diseases.1 Over 2.4 million eye injuries occur each year in The United States of America.2 Globally, there are approximately 1.6 million people who are blind from eye injuries, 2.3 million are bilaterally visually impaired, and 1.9 million have unilateral visual loss.3,4 Ocular trauma can be classified as closed and open globe injuries. Open globe injuries can be a rupture, penetrating injury, perforating injury or intra ocular foreign body.5 A perforating injury is defined as an injury that consists of two full thickness wounds - one entry and one exit wound.6 It usually occurs due to a projectile object travelling at a high velocity and kinetic energy that is capable of penetrating two opposite coats of the globe. Perforation injuries are common and cause severe visual impairment. Panda et al. presented a profile of ocular trauma in Delhi in which they observed that among the type of injuries, perforating injuries accounted for 75.3%, blunt injuries for 20.5% and extra- ocular for 4.2% of the total number of ocular trauma cases. Further the visual outcome in perforating injuries was > 6/12 in 14 %; 6/18- 6/60 in 14% and less than 6/60 in 55.2% of the cases. 7 Profile of ocular trauma varies with country, geography, industrialisation and development of the place. These injuries do not occur as random events and there is evidence that some individuals are at increased risk because of exposure to hazards and/or inability to avoid or detect hazards.8 Some individuals are at increased risk of eye injury as a result of their occupation. Small scale and large-scale industrial workers constitute a group of individuals at high risk. These workers are exposed to such hazards as flying metal chips, burns in the eye and injury from radiation.9 Ludhiana and neighbouring areas are heavily industrialised mainly, with metalrelated products and therefore, there are more chances of industrial ocular trauma. We are reporting two unusual cases related to ocular trauma. The first one is that of an alleged accidental injury to the right eye with a piece of hack saw blade whereas the second case report is that of a dental student who injured his eye by orthodontic wire which is used for making braces.

Cochlear inner hair cells (IHCs) form specialized ribbon synapses with spiral ganglion neurons that tireless-ly transmit sound information at high rates over long time periods with extreme temporal precision. This functional specialization is essential for precise sound encoding and is attributed to a distinct molecular machinery with unique players or splice variants compared to conventional neuronal synapses. Among these is the active zone (AZ) scaffold protein piccolo/aczonin, which is represented by its short splice variant piccolino at cochlear and retinal ribbon synapses. While the function of piccolo at synapses of the central nervous system has been intensively investigated, the role of piccolino at IHC synapses remains unclear. In this study, we characterized the structure and function of IHC-synapses in piccolo gene-trap mutant rats (Pclogt/gt). We found a mild hearing deficit with elevated thresholds and reduced amplitudes of auditory brainstem responses. Ca2+channel distribution and ribbon morphology were altered in apical IHCs, while their presynaptic function seemed unchanged. We conclude that piccolino contributes to the AZ organization in IHCs and is essential for normal synaptic transmission.

Acupuncture is an complementary form of medicine that has relatively recently become a component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It involves the application of thin needles at specific points throughout the body, although initially, general areas instead of points were used. There are estimated to be about 395 different points that can be utilized, and the technique behind using these points can vary widely between practitioners. In addition to acupuncture points, TCM is said to use meridians or pathways along with qi, or energy flows. In terms of acupunctures’ utility, it has been known to treat a variety of ailments ranging from pain and headaches to sleep disturbances, but it's true benefits continue to be questioned. To date, thousands of studies have been performed in regards to its efficacy with varying conclusions. Once considered to be “pseudomedicine”, this ancient technique has been found to provide long-term benefits for patients with chronic pain. This manuscript aims at providing a brief history of acupuncture and examines studies in favor of its relief of chronic pain.

As we are familiar with the increasing number and demand for online videos on the internet has led to difficulty in the extraction of required data. The recommendation system is used to filter or to collect information according to the user's preference. Nowadays, the use of recommendation systems has become important so that we can find more relevant data from huge sources. Based on the attributes such as genres, we can recommend important videos to different users. There are different video recommendation problems such as cold start, data sparsity, etc. Here in this paper, we are solving the data sparsity problem which is considered as the biggest problem as it can give poor results. There are different recommendation techniques that are used to solve various recommendation problems such as content-based filtering, real-time recommendation system, hybrid recommender system, single network-based recommendation system, collaborative filtering. We are using a single-network recommendation system to enhance the quality of recommendation.

Bacteriophages infecting pathogenic hosts play an important role in medical research, not only as potential treatments for antibiotic-resistant infections but also offering novel insights into pathogen genetics and evolution. A prominent example is cluster K mycobacteriophages infecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a causative agent of tuberculosis in humans. However, as handling M. tuberculosis as well as other pathogens in a laboratory remains challenging, alternative nonpathogenic relatives, such as Mycobacterium smegmatis, are frequently used as surrogates to discover therapeutically relevant bacteriophages in a safer environment. Consequently, the individual host ranges of the majority of cluster K mycobacteriophages identified to date remain poorly understood. Here, we characterized the complete genome of Stinson, a temperate subcluster K1 mycobacteriophage with a siphoviral morphology. A series of comparative genomic analyses revealed strong similarities with other cluster K mycobacteriophages, including the conservation of an immunity repressor gene and a toxin/antitoxin gene pair. Patterns of codon usage bias across the cluster offered important insights into putative host ranges in nature, highlighting that although all cluster K mycobacteriophages are able to infect M. tuberculosis, they are less likely to have shared an evolutionary infection history with Mycobacterium leprae (underlying leprosy) compared to the rest of the genus’ host species. Moreover, subcluster K1 mycobacteriophages are able to integrate into the genomes of Mycobacterium abscessus and Mycobacterium marinum—two bacteria causing pulmonary and cutaneous infections which are often difficult to treat due to their drug resistance.

Automated collection of on-vehicle sensor data allows the development of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for vehicular systems’ diagnostic and prognostic processes to better assess the state-of-health, predict faults and evaluate residual life of ground vehicle systems. One of the vital subsystems, in terms of safety and mission criticality, is the power train, (comprising the engine, transmission, and final drives), which provides the driving torque required for vehicle acceleration. In this paper, a novel health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) architecture is presented, together with dedicated diagnosis/prognosis algorithms that utilize data gathered from a sensor network embedded in an armoured personnel carrier (APC) vehicle. To model the drivetrain, a virtual dynamometer is introduced, which estimates the engine torque output for successive comparison with the measured torque values taken from the engine control unit. This virtual dynamometer is also used in conjunction with other sensed variables to determine the maximum torque output of the engine, which is considered to be the primary indicator of engine health. Regression analysis is performed to capture the effect of certain variables such as engine hours, oil temperature, and coolant temperature on the degradation of maximum engine torque. Degradations in the final drives system were identified using a comparison of the temperature trends between the left-hand and right-hand final drives. This research lays foundations for the development of real-time diagnosis and prognosis functions for an integrated vehicle health management (IVHM) system suitable for safety critical manned and unmanned vehicle applications.

Animals, especially mammals like bats and dolphins, use acoustic waves that vary in frequency, signal duration, and intensity, for navigation and tracking. The directionality of acoustic waves has also been long used for localization by human beings. The term ‘echolocation’ was coined by Donald R. Griffin, where he discusses ship captains exploiting sound to ascertain the ship's surroundings and avoid obstacles in low-visibility environments. Acoustic sensors can provide a low-cost, size, weight, and power (C-SWaP) navigation solution, which is scalable and robust. Moreover, acoustic sensors have the capability to provide high-resolution spatial information at short distance range. This paper presents a novel acoustic positioning and navigation system for a micro aerial vehicle. Flight tests are performed to evaluate the system, where the performance of the acoustic system is compared with a motion capture system.

This paper addresses some of the existing research gaps in the practical use of acoustic waves for navigation of autonomous air and surface vehicles. After providing a characterisation of ultrasonic transducers, a multistatic sensor arrangement is discussed, with multiple transmitters broadcasting their respective signals in a round-robin fashion, following a time division multiple access (TDMA) scheme. In particular, an optimisation methodology for the placement of transmitters in a given test volume is presented with the objective of minimizing the position dilution of precision (PDOP) and maximizing the sensor availability. Additionally, the contribution of platform dynamics to positioning error is also analysed in order to support future ground and flight vehicle test activities. Results are presented of both theoretical and experimental data analysis performed to determine the positioning accuracy attainable from the proposed multistatic acoustic navigation sensor. In particular, the ranging errors due to signal delays and attenuation of sound waves in air are analytically derived, and static indoor positioning tests are performed to determine the positioning accuracy attainable with different transmitter&ndash, receiver-relative geometries. Additionally, it is shown that the proposed transmitter placement optimisation methodology leads to increased accuracy and better coverage in an indoor environment, where the required position, velocity, and time (PVT) data cannot be delivered by satellite-based navigation systems.

Current navigation sensors mostly rely on electromagnetic signals for getting the position, velocity, and time (PVT) information. But it can be observed that mammals like bats use acoustic waves, mostly ultrasound, for echolocation. Acoustic waves are also used by cetaceans like dolphins and sperm whales for echolocation. This paper investigates the performance of the acoustic positioning and navigation system (APNS). Acoustic sensors have relatively lower cost, size, weight, and power (C-SWAP) and are easy to deploy. Additionally, being based on acoustic signals, this technique is immune to signal-in-space electromagnetic interferences. The attenuation of sound in air is discussed along with potential ranging errors and signal delays. A multistatic arrangement of sensors is discussed in detail, with an optimized arrangement of transmitters in a given test geometry. The transmitters broadcast their respective signals following a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) scheme. The receiver position is calculated based on ranging measurements from a minimum of three transmitters. The range is calculated based on the Time of Arrival (TOA) of acoustic waves from the transmitter to the receiver. The transmitters are arranged optimally to minimize Position Dilution of Precision (PDOP) as well as maximizing sensor availability. The error in positioning due to platform dynamics is also discussed. This analysis lead to an optimized arrangement of transmitters, thus supporting subsequent experimental activities.

With the growing industrial conscience for obtaining maximum possible output in minimum time, automation has become an indispensable tool. The objective of the present research is to develop a low-cost electronic detection system based on Arduino microcontroller. The present work has been carried out by making the small parts move on the tracks of a vibratory bowl feeder which is extensively used in industry for small part feeding on assembly lines. The work can, therefore, be seen as important as it will make conventional vibratory bowl feeding systems work in a smarter manner. The present system consists of two sensing elements namely IR and colour recognition sensor. The former is used to check the orientation of the components, whereas the latter senses the colour. A servo-based actuating plunger discards the components of undesired orientation and colour. It is expected that the system will prove to be beneficial for industrial applications.

Integrated System Health Management (ISHM) is a promising technology that fuses sensor data and historical state-of-health information of components and subsystems to provide actionable information and enable intelligent decision-making regarding the operation and maintenance of aerospace systems. ISHM fundamentally relies on assessments and predictions of system health, including the early detection of failures and estimation of Remaining Useful Life (RUL). Model-based, data-driven or hybrid reasoning techniques can be utilized to maximise the timeliness and reliability of diagnosis and prognosis information. The benefits of ISHM include enhancing the maintainability, reliability, safety and performance of systems. The next evolution of the ISHM concept, Intelligent Health and Mission Management (IHMM), delves deeper into the utilization of on-line system health predictions to modify mission profiles to ensure safety and reliability, as well as efficiency through predictive integrity. This concept is particularly important for Trusted Autonomous System (TAS) applications, where an accurate assessment of the current and future system state-of-health to make operational decisions (with or without human intervention) is integral to both flight safety and mission success. IHMM systems introduce the capability of predicting degradation in the functional performance of subsystems, with sufficient time to dynamically identify which appropriate restorative or reconfiguration actions to take in order to ensure that the system can perform at an acceptable level of operational capability before the onset of a failure event. This paper reviews some of the key advancements and contributions to knowledge in the field of ISHM for the aerospace industry, with a particular focus on various architectures and reasoning strategies involving the use of artificial intelligence. The paper also discusses the key challenges faced in the development and deployment of ISHM systems in the aerospace industry and highlights the safety-critical role that IHMM will play in future cyber-physical and autonomous system applications (both vehicle and ground support systems), such as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Traffic Management (UTM), Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and Distributed Satellite Systems (DSS).

This paper addresses one of the recognized barriers to the unrestricted adoption of Unmanned Aircraft (UA) in mainstream urban use—noise—and reviews existing approaches for estimating and mitigating this problem. The aircraft noise problem is discussed upfront in general terms by introducing the sound emission, propagation, and psychoacoustic effects. The propagation of sound in the atmosphere, which is the focus of this paper, is then analysed in detail to isolate the environmental and operational factors that predominantly influence the perceived noise on the ground, especially looking at large-scale low-altitude UA operations, such as in the envisioned Urban Air Mobility (UAM) concepts. The physics of sound propagation are presented, considering all attenuation effects and the anomalies due to Doppler and atmospheric effects, such as wind, thermal inversion, and turbulence. The analysis allows to highlight the limitations of current mainstream aircraft noise modelling and certification approaches and, in particular, their inadequacy in addressing the noise of UA and, more generally, UAM vehicles. This finding is important considering that, although reducing noise at the source has remained a priority for manufacturers to enable the scaling up of UAM and drone delivery operations in the near future, the impact of poorly considered propagation and psychoacoustic effects on the actual perceived noise on the ground is equally important for the same objective. For instance, optimizing the flight paths as a function of local weather conditions can significantly contribute to minimizing the impact of noise on communities, thus paving the way for the introduction of full-scale UAM operations. A more reliable and accurate modelling of noise ground signatures for both manned and unmanned low-flying aircraft will aid in identifying the real-time data stream requirements from distributed sensors on the ground. New developments in surrogate sound propagation models, more pervasive real-time sensor data, and suitable computing resources are expected to both yield more reliable and effective estimates of noise reaching the ground listeners and support a dynamic planning of flight paths.

Novel Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) systems are currently developed targeting the Required Total System Performance (RTSP) levels. Within RTSP, it is essential to meet the Required Navigation Performance (RNP) in all flight phases, especially considering the Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) evolutions in the UAS Traffic Management (UTM) context. However, in dense urban environments characterized by tall buildings and complex structural variations, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is prone to data degradations or complete loss of signal due to multipath effects, interference or antenna obscuration. Furthermore, there is always a risk of jamming and spoofing of GNSS signals, with low cost civilian GNSS receivers being more vulnerable to a spoof attack. Therefore, a number of Signals of Opportunity (SoOP) techniques are explored to improve the RNP when Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) are employed in urban canyons. Electromagnetic signals found in urban environment including analogue/ digital radio, analogue/digital television, Wi-Fi, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) based signals are considered to model the system performance parameters. Implementation methods for using Signals of Opportunity such as Angle of Arrival (AOA), Time of Arrival (TOA), Received Signal Strength (RSS) and Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) are modeled and compared. Integration of SoOP techniques in novel low-cost Navigation and Guidance Systems (NGS) is also investigated. As SoOP were not initially designed for navigation purposes, no single source of SoOP for navigation can work in all environments and hence a SoOP source has to be selected based on specific requirements in the considered urban environment. Constraints of power and weight on the UAV besides hardware and software costs are also factors that are considered when selecting appropriate SoOP signal sources. Hence, there is a clear opportunity to provide considerable savings in both infrastructure as well as energy costs and thus providing a low-cost and low-volume integrated NGS for trusted aerial autonomous operations.

Energy distribution networks are subject to various problems resulting in uncontrolled environmental releases or leaks. These leaks are of particular concerns due to the hazardous nature of the transported commodity. Consequently, a significant research interest lies in the design of effective leak detection technologies. Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) systems are very promising as they enable remote detection at considerable distances. This paper presents an innovative LIDAR measurement system capable of detecting leaks from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). The transmitter consists of a tuneable laser source mounted on the UAV and the receiver consists of a calibrated reflector and a passive imaging system mounted on an unmanned ground vehicle. This bistatic layout allows for a significant increase in range. The system employs an open-path Differential Absorption LIDAR (DIAL) measurement technique for selected molecular species. The proposed bistatic LIDAR system offers notable advantages compared to monostatic DIAL and in situ leak detection systems based on extraction sampling technology.

Objectives: To evaluate the response to mentoring amongst medical students after introduction of a structured mentorship programme. Methods: This was a cross sectional study conducted at Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, [HIMSR] New Delhi. A pre validated confidential questionnaire, designed as both open and closed ended questions was utilised to obtain responses from a sample size of 300 students, both males and females. Our questionnaire solicited the following information: clarity of the concept to the mentee, duration of being involved in the programme, preferred mentoring model, comments on intended benefits and those obtained, frequency of meetings, forms of communication used and preferred place of interaction. All students in 1st, 2nd and 3rd year at HIMSR who agreed to participate in the study were included. Results: A total of 231 students returned their questionnaire, making the response rate of 77%. Different forms of communication were being used, of which personal meeting was most frequent. Both males and females were contacting their mentors in person. Majority of students preferred the mentorship model to be 1:1 and faculty members as mentors instead of senior students. Most of the students wanted the relationship to be mutual on both the sides, with both mentors and mentees having a say in the allocation process. There was no preference to gender for most of the students. Conclusions : The mentorship programme found good acceptance with medical students. Acoustic transmitters are arranged at known fixed locations and broadcast their respective signals following a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) scheme. The receiver position is calculated based on ranging measurements from a minimum of four transmitters. The range is calculated based on time-of-flight (TOF) of acoustic waves from the transmitter to the receiver. The transmitters are arranged optimally to minimize Position Dilution of Precision (PDOP). Optimizing the location of transmitters for minimum PDOP also leads to better coverage in the indoor environment, where conventional satellite based navigation systems cannot deliver the required Position, Velocity and Time (PVT) data. The attenuation of sound in air is discussed along with potential ranging errors and signal delays. Simulations are carried out to optimize the arrangement of transmitters for future experiments with indoor air and surface vehicles.

The concept of a bio-inspired navigation system using acoustic sensors is presented and various possible approaches for its effective integration in Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (UAS) are investigated. Acoustic sensors can have useful applications in UAS obstacle detection and localization, especially in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) denied environments. Taking inspiration from echolocating mammals, especially bats, novel navigation techniques are presented employing both multistatic and monostatic acoustic sensors. Laboratory experiments are presented in which a small array of transmitters provides input data to a multilateration receiver. Based on the positive results of these initial experiments, various possible approaches are investigated for integration of the proposed echolocation techniques in a multi-sensor UAS Navigation and Guidance System (NGS) and in an Acoustic Laser Obstacle Avoidance (ALOA) system for Separation Assurance and Collision Avoidance (SA&CA).

Navigation and guidance systems are a critical part of any autonomous vehicle. In this paper, a novel sensor grid using 40 KHz ultrasonic transmitters is presented for adoption in indoor 3D positioning applications. In the proposed technique, a vehicle measures the arrival time of incoming ultrasonic signals and calculates the position without broadcasting to the grid. This system allows for conducting silent or covert operations and can also be used for the simultaneous navigation of a large number of vehicles. The transmitters and receivers employed are first described. Transmission lobe patterns and receiver directionality determine the geometry of transmitter clusters. Range and accuracy of measurements dictate the number of sensors required to navigate in a given volume. Laboratory experiments were performed in which a small array of transmitters was set up and the sensor system was tested for position accuracy. The prototype system is shown to have a 1-sigma position error of about 16 cm, with errors between 7 and 11 cm in the local horizontal coordinates. This research work provides foundations for the future development of ultrasonic navigation sensors for a variety of autonomous vehicle applications.

Background Pharmacotherapy is often impeded by adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Among these ADRs cutaneous reactions are the major class being easily identified and reported. If not noted early it has potential to develop into serious lesions. Objective To evaluate the clinical patterns of various drug induced cutaneous reactions. Setting A Teaching hospital in India. Methods All suspected cutaneous reactions to systemic drugs which were submitted to the ADR monitoring centre during a 6-month period (March 2014–August 2014) were analysed. Causality relationship, severity assessment and preventability assessment was also done. Results Out of 134 cutaneous ADRs, 56 % occurred in females, majority of cases were found in the age group of 41–50 years. The most common type of ADR was maculopapular rash (46.3 %) and majorly implicated drug class was antibiotics (51.3 %). Most (72.3 %) were mild. Polypharmacy and multiple comorbid conditions were important predisposing factors. Over half of the cases (58 %) were not preventable. Conclusion Cutaneous adverse reaction patterns and their causes vary as the result of changing use of drugs. In India, antibiotics are responsible for the majority of the cutaneous adverse drug reactions, and maculopapular rash is the side effect that is most reported.

This paper aims to highlight the opportunities and challenges associated with the adoption of hydrogen fuels in aviation. An overview of the environmental and economic benefits and technological challenges is presented. A simplified model is subsequently introduced to estimate the benefits of liquid hydrogen fuels in aircraft of conventional configurations, encompassing changes in volume, weights and environmental impacts. This paper concludes that hydrogen in cryogenic liquid form demonstrates great potential to become a highly sustainable commercial aviation fuel with lower emissions and less fuel mass for a given range, resulting in better economies. The presented numerical case study highlights that despite the worsened aerodynamic and structural characteristics, a take-off weight saving of more than 11% (small regional jet) and up to 25% (large wide-body aircraft) can be achieved when considering a liquid hydrogen retrofit of current generation jetliners. Unfortunately, the volume required by integral tanks prevents the translation of this weight saving in additional payload, but remarkable economic savings can be obtained. However, the implementation of this technology comes with many technical challenges, including the development of sustainable production, storage and delivery systems that shall not dilute the environmental benefits as well as widespread uptake to ensure financial sustainability.
