The internal structure of the lowest-lying pseudo-scalar mesons with heavy-light quark content is thoroughly studied using an algebraic model that has been successfully applied to similar physical observables of pseudoscalar and vector mesons with hidden-flavor quark content, ranging from light to heavy quark sectors. This model is based on constructing simple and evidence-based ans\"atze for the mesons' Bethe-Salpeter amplitude (BSA) and quark propagator, allowing the Bethe-Salpeter wave function (BSWF) to be computed algebraically. Its projection onto the light front yields the corresponding light-front wave function (LFWF), which provides easy access to the valence-quark Parton Distribution Amplitude (PDA) by integrating over the transverse momentum squared. We leverage our current knowledge of the PDAs of the lowest-lying pseudo-scalar heavy-light mesons to compute their Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) via the overlap representation of the LFWFs. From this three-dimensional information, various limits and projections allow us to deduce the related Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs), Electromagnetic Form Factors (EFFs), and Impact Parameter Space GPDs (IPS-GPDs). A symmetry-preserving analysis of strong interaction quantum field equations is used to complete a unified treatment of pion, kaon, nucleon electromagnetic and gravitational form factors. Findings include a demonstration that the pion near-core pressure is roughly twice that in the proton, so both are significantly greater than that of a neutron star; parton species separations of the nucleon's three gravitational form factors, in which, inter alia, the glue-to-quark ratio for each form factor is seen to take the same constant value, independent of momentum transfer; and a determination of proton radii orderings, with the mechanical (normal force) radius being less than the mass-energy radius, which is less than the proton charge radius. We present a nonperturbative study of the form factor associated with the projection of the full four-gluon vertex on its classical tensor, for a set of kinematics with one vanishing and three arbitrary external momenta. The treatment is based on the Schwinger-Dyson equation governing this vertex, and a large-volume lattice simulation, involving ten thousand gauge field configurations. The key hypothesis employed in both approaches is the ``planar degeneracy'', which classifies diverse configurations by means of a single variable, thus enabling their meaningful ``averaging''. The results of both approaches show notable agreement, revealing a considerable suppression of the averaged form factor in the infrared. The deviations from the exact planar degeneracy are discussed in detail, and a supplementary variable is used to achieve a more accurate description. The effective charge defined through this special form factor is computed within both approaches, and the results obtained are in excellent agreement., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

We combine the Dyson-Schwinger/Bethe-Salpeter equations framework with modern numerical reconstruction methods to derive the three-dimensional and transverse two-dimensional charge distribution of an array of ground-state pseudoscalar and vector mesons from their elastic electromagnetic form factor in the low-momentum region. The charge radii obtained by averaging over the reconstructed charge distributions have been checked to be consistent with those calculated from the slope of the elastic electromagnetic form factor at zero transferred momentum. The capability of the reconstruction procedure for capturing a reliable low-distance charge distribution is discussed and argued to work down to distances of around 0.1 fm, such that it might be potentially applied to extract, {\it e.g.}, mass densities from gravitational form factors., Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures

Several continuum and lattice investigations of the QCD three-gluon vertex have recently exposed its key properties, some intimately connected with the low-momentum behavior of the two-point gluon Green's function and specially relevant for the emergence of a mass scale in this latter, via the Schwinger mechanism. In the present study, we report on a lattice determination of the Landau-gauge, transversely projected three-gluon vertex, particularly scrutinizing an outstanding one of these properties, termed planar degeneracy, exploring its implications and capitalizing on it to gain further insight on the low-momentum running of both the three-gluon vertex and its associated strong coupling., Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures

Despite its role in the continuing evolution of the Universe, only a small fraction of the mass of visible material can be attributed to the Higgs boson alone. The overwhelmingly dominant share may/should arise from the strong interactions that act in the heart of nuclear matter; namely, those described by quantum chromodynamics. This contribution describes how studying and explaining the attributes of pseudoscalar mesons can open an insightful window onto understanding the origin of mass in the Standard Model and how these insights inform our knowledge of hadron structure. The survey ranges over distribution amplitudes and functions, electromagnetic and gravitational form factors, light-front wave functions, and generalized parton distributions. Relying on the polynomiality property of generalized parton distributions, which roots on Lorentz covariance, we prove that it is enough to know them at vanishing- and low-skewness within the DGLAP region to obtain a unique extension to their entire support up to a D-term. We put this idea in practice using two methods: Reconstruction using artificial neural networks and finite-elements methods. We benchmark our results against standard models for generalized parton distributions. In agreement with the formal expectation, we obtain a very accurate reconstructions for a maximal value of the skewness as low as 20% of the longitudinal momentum fraction. This result might be relevant for reconstruction of generalized parton distribution from experimental and lattice QCD data, where computations are for now, restricted in skewness., Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures

This document presents the initial scientific case for upgrading the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) at Jefferson Lab (JLab) to 22 GeV. It is the result of a community effort, incorporating insights from a series of workshops conducted between March 2022 and April 2023. With a track record of over 25 years in delivering the world's most intense and precise multi-GeV electron beams, CEBAF's potential for a higher energy upgrade presents a unique opportunity for an innovative nuclear physics program, which seamlessly integrates a rich historical background with a promising future. The proposed physics program encompass a diverse range of investigations centered around the nonperturbative dynamics inherent in hadron structure and the exploration of strongly interacting systems. It builds upon the exceptional capabilities of CEBAF in high-luminosity operations, the availability of existing or planned Hall equipment, and recent advancements in accelerator technology. The proposed program cover various scientific topics, including Hadron Spectroscopy, Partonic Structure and Spin, Hadronization and Transverse Momentum, Spatial Structure, Mechanical Properties, Form Factors and Emergent Hadron Mass, Hadron-Quark Transition, and Nuclear Dynamics at Extreme Conditions, as well as QCD Confinement and Fundamental Symmetries. Each topic highlights the key measurements achievable at a 22 GeV CEBAF accelerator. Furthermore, this document outlines the significant physics outcomes and unique aspects of these programs that distinguish them from other existing or planned facilities. Inspired by the recent development of an algebraic model which provides an adequate and unified description of the internal structure of the lowest-lying pseudo-scalar mesons, belonging both to the light quarks sector and to the one of heavy quarks, we perform its first extension to the vector-meson case. The algebraic model describes meson's structure in terms of the spectral density function that appears in a Nakanishi integral representation of the covariant quark-antiquark bound-state amplitude, \emph{i.e.}, the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude. We compute the leading-twist light-front wave functions of the $\rho(770)$, $\phi(1020)$, $J/\psi$ and $\Upsilon(1S)$ mesons through their connection with the parton distribution amplitudes. Among the results we present, the following are of particular interest: (i) transverse light-front wave functions can be obtained algebraically from the corresponding parton distribution amplitudes, whereas that is not the case for longitudinal light-front wave functions, which requires an intermediate step where a spectral density function must be derived from the particular parton distribution amplitude; (ii) the derived spectral density functions show marked differences between light and heavy vector mesons, the latter being narrower as compared to the former; these are also non-positive definite, although the integral over the entire curve is larger than zero as expected; and (iii) the longitudinal and transverse light-front wave functions of vector mesons with light quark content exhibit steep $x$- and $p_\perp^2$-dependence, while those of the $J/\psi$ and $\Upsilon(1S)$ mesons are characterized by narrow distributions in the $x$-range but, comparatively, much more gradual fall-offs with respect to the $p_\perp^2$-range depicted., Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures and 4 tables. Existing pion+nucleus Drell-Yan and electron+pion scattering data are used to develop ensembles of model-independent representations of the pion generalised parton distribution (GPD). Therewith, one arrives at a data-driven prediction for the pion mass distribution form factor, $\theta_2$. Compared with the pion elastic electromagnetic form factor, $\theta_2$ is harder: the ratio of the radii derived from these two form factors is $r_\pi^{\theta_2}/r_\pi = 0.79(3)$. Continuum and lattice analyses have revealed the existence of a mass-scale in the gluon two-point Schwinger function. It has long been conjectured that this expresses the action of a Schwinger mechanism for gauge boson mass generation in quantum chromodynamics (QCD). For such to be true, it is necessary and sufficient that a dynamically-generated, massless, colour-carrying, scalar gluon+gluon correlation emerge as a feature of the dressed three-gluon vertex. Working with results on elementary Schwinger functions obtained via the numerical simulation of lattice-regularised QCD, we establish with an extremely high level of confidence that just such a feature appears; hence, confirm the conjectured origin of the gluon mass scale., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures

We present novel results for the three-gluon vertex, obtained from an extensive quenched lattice simulation in the Landau gauge. The simulation evaluates the transversely projected vertex, spanned on a special tensorial basis, whose form factors are naturally parametrized in terms of individually Bose-symmetric variables. Quite interestingly, when evaluated in these kinematics, the corresponding form factors depend almost exclusively on a single kinematic variable, formed by the sum of the squares of the three incoming four-momenta, $q$, $r$, and $p$. Thus, all configurations lying on a given plane in the coordinate system $(q^2, r^2, p^2)$ share, to a high degree of accuracy, the same form factors, a property that we denominate \emph{planar degeneracy}. We have confirmed the validity of this property through an exhaustive study of the set of configurations satisfying the condition $q^2 = r^2$, within the range $[0, 5\, \rm GeV]$. Moreover, a preliminary exploration reveals that the planar degeneracy persist in the case of more arbitrary configurations. This drastic simplification allows for a remarkably compact description of the main bulk of the data, which is particularly suitable for future numerical applications. A semi-perturbative analysis reproduces the lattice findings rather accurately, once the inclusion of a gluon mass has cured all spurious divergences., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

Supposing only that there is an effective charge which defines an evolution scheme for parton distribution functions (DFs) that is all-orders exact, strict lower and upper bounds on all Mellin moments of the valence-quark DFs of pion-like systems are derived. Exploiting contemporary results from numerical simulations of lattice-regularised quantum chromodynamics (QCD) that are consistent with these bounds, parameter-free predictions for pion valence, glue, and sea DFs are obtained. The form of the valence-quark DF at large values of the light-front momentum fraction is consistent with predictions derived using the QCD-prescribed behaviour of the pion wave function., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, 1 table

Analyses of the pion valence-quark distribution function (DF), ${u}^\pi(x;\zeta)$, which explicitly incorporate the behaviour of the pion wave function prescribed by quantum chromodynamics (QCD), predict ${u}^\pi(x\simeq 1;\zeta) \sim (1-x)^{\beta(\zeta)}$, $\beta(\zeta \gtrsim m_p)>2$, where $m_p$ is the proton mass. Nevertheless, more than forty years after the first experiment to collect data suitable for extracting the $x\simeq 1$ behaviour of ${u}^\pi$, the empirical status remains uncertain because some methods used to fit existing data return a result for ${u}^\pi$ that violates this constraint. Such disagreement entails one of the following conclusions: the analysis concerned is incomplete; not all data being considered are a true expression of qualities intrinsic to the pion; or QCD, as it is currently understood, is not the theory of strong interactions. New, precise data are necessary before a final conclusion is possible. In developing these positions, we exploit a single proposition, viz. there is an effective charge which defines an evolution scheme for parton DFs that is all-orders exact. This proposition has numerous corollaries, which can be used to test the character of any DF, whether fitted or calculated., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures, 1 table

We present in this letter the first systematic feasibility study of accessing generalised parton distributions of the pion at an electron-ion collider through deeply virtual Compton scattering at next-to-leading order. It relies on a state-of-the-art model, able to fulfil by construction all the theoretical constraints imposed on generalised parton distributions. Strikingly, our analysis shows that quarks and gluons interfere destructively and that gluon dominance could be spotted by a sign change of the DVCS beam spin asymmetry., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

We present a detailed study of the dynamics associated with the ghost sector of quenched QCD in the Landau gauge, where the relevant dynamical equations are supplemented with key inputs originating from large-volume lattice simulations. In particular, we solve the coupled system of Schwinger-Dyson equations that governs the evolution of the ghost dressing function and the ghost-gluon vertex, using as input for the gluon propagator lattice data that have been cured from volume and discretization artifacts. In addition, we explore the soft gluon limit of the same system, employing recent lattice data for the three-gluon vertex that enters in one of the diagrams defining the Schwinger-Dyson equation of the ghost-gluon vertex. The results obtained from the numerical treatment of these equations are in excellent agreement with lattice data for the ghost dressing function, once the latter have undergone the appropriate scale-setting and artifact elimination refinements. Moreover, the coincidence observed between the ghost-gluon vertex in general kinematics and in the soft gluon limit reveals an outstanding consistency of physical concepts and computational schemes., Comment: 34 pages, 12 figures

The quark mass function is computed both by solving the quark propagator Dyson-Schwinger equation and from lattice simulations implementing overlap and Domain-Wall fermion actions for valence and sea quarks, respectively. The results are confronted and seen to produce a very congruent picture, showing a remarkable agreement for the explored range of current-quark masses. The effective running-interaction is based on a process-independent charge rooted on a particular truncation of the Dyson-Schwinger equations in the gauge sector, establishing thus a link from there to the quark sector and inspiring a correlation between the emergence of gluon and hadron masses., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

We present novel lattice results for the form factors of the quenched three-gluon vertex of QCD, in two special kinematic configurations that depend on a single momentum scale. We consider three form factors, two associated with a classical tensor structure and one without tree-level counterpart, exhibiting markedly different infrared behaviors. Specifically, while the former display the typical suppression driven by a negative logarithmic singularity at the origin, the latter saturates at a small negative constant. These exceptional features are analyzed within the Schwinger-Dyson framework, with the aid of special relations obtained from the Slavnov-Taylor identities of the theory. The emerging picture of the underlying dynamics is thoroughly corroborated by the lattice results, both qualitatively as well as quantitatively., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures

The topical workshop {\it Strong QCD from Hadron Structure Experiments} took place at Jefferson Lab from Nov. 6-9, 2019. Impressive progress in relating hadron structure observables to the strong QCD mechanisms has been achieved from the {\it ab initio} QCD description of hadron structure in a diverse array of methods in order to expose emergent phenomena via quasi-particle formation. The wealth of experimental data and the advances in hadron structure theory make it possible to gain insight into strong interaction dynamics in the regime of large quark-gluon coupling (the strong QCD regime), which will address the most challenging problems of the Standard Model on the nature of the dominant part of hadron mass, quark-gluon confinement, and the emergence of the ground and excited state hadrons, as well as atomic nuclei, from QCD. This workshop aimed to develop plans and to facilitate the future synergistic efforts between experimentalists, phenomenologists, and theorists working on studies of hadron spectroscopy and structure with the goal to connect the properties of hadrons and atomic nuclei available from data to the strong QCD dynamics underlying their emergence from QCD. We present a detailed analysis of the kinetic and mass terms associated with the Landau gauge gluon propagator in the presence of dynamical quarks, and a comprehensive dynamical study of certain special kinematic limits of the three-gluon vertex. Our approach capitalizes on results from recent lattice simulations with (2+1) domain wall fermions, a novel nonlinear treatment of the gluon mass equation, and the nonperturbative reconstruction of the longitudinal three-gluon vertex from its fundamental Slavnov-Taylor identities. Particular emphasis is placed on the persistence of the suppression displayed by certain combinations of the vertex form factors at intermediate and low momenta, already known from numerous pure Yang-Mills studies. One of our central findings is that the inclusion of dynamical quarks moderates the intensity of this phenomenon only mildly, leaving the asymptotic low-momentum behavior unaltered, but displaces the characteristic "zero crossing" deeper into the infrared region. In addition, the effect of the three-gluon vertex is explored at the level of the renormalization-group invariant combination corresponding to the effective gauge coupling, whose size is considerably reduced with respect to its counterpart obtained from the ghost-gluon vertex. The main upshot of the above considerations is the further confirmation of the tightly interwoven dynamics between the two- and three-point sectors of QCD., Comment: 32 pages, 10 figures

We report on the first computation of the strong running coupling at the physical point (physical pion mass) from the ghost-gluon vertex, computed from lattice simulations with three flavors of Domain Wall fermions. We find $\alpha_{\overline{\rm MS}}(m_Z^2)=0.1172(11)$, in remarkably good agreement with the world-wide average. Our computational bridge to this value is the Taylor-scheme strong coupling, which has been revealed of great interest by itself because it can be directly related to the quark-gluon interaction kernel in continuum approaches to the QCD bound-state problem., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, v2: references added

The $SU(3)$ gauge-field propagators computed from the lattice have been exhaustively used in the investigation of the low-momentum dynamics of QCD, in a judicious interplay with results from other nonperturbative approaches, and for the extraction of fundamental parameters of QCD like $\Lambda_{\overline{\rm MS}}$ as well. The impact of the discretization artifacts and their role in the extrapolation of the results to the continuum limit have not been fully understood so far. We report here about a very careful analysis of the physical scaling violation of the Landau-gauge propagators renormalized in MOM scheme and the Taylor coupling, steering us towards an insightful understanding of the effects from discretization artifacts which makes therefore possible a reliable continuum-limit extrapolation., Comment: 10 pag., 6 fig

We report on some efforts recently made in order to gain a better understanding of some IR properties of the 3-point gluon Green's function by exploiting results from large-volume quenched lattice simulations. These lattice results have been obtained by using both tree-level Symanzik and the standard Wilson action, in the aim of assessing the possible impact of effects presumably resulting from a particular choice for the discretization of the action. The main resulting feature is the existence of a negative logaritmic divergence at zero-momentum, which pulls the 3-gluon form factors down at low momenta and, consequently, yields a zero-crossing at a given deep IR momentum. We examined the instanton contribution to the QCD configurations generated from lattice QCD for $N_F=0$, $N_F=2+1$ and $N_F=2+1+1$ dynamical quark flavors from two different and complementary approaches. First via the use of Gradient flow, we computed instanton liquid properties using an algorithm to localize instantons in the gauge field configurations and studied their evolution with flow time. Then, the analysis of the running at low momenta of gluon Green's functions serves as an independent confirmation of the instanton density which can also be derived without the use of the Gradient flow., Comment: 29 pages, 6 figures

A systematic approach for the model building of Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs), based on their overlap representation within the DGLAP kinematic region and a further covariant extension to the ERBL one, is applied to the valence-quark pion's case, using light-front wave functions inspired by the Nakanishi representation of the pion's Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes (BSA). We present a novel approach to compute Generalized Parton Distributions within the Lightfront Wave Function overlap framework. We show how to systematically extend Generalized Parton Distributions computed within the DGLAP region to the ERBL one, fulfilling at the same time both the polynomiality and positivity conditions. We exemplify our method using pion Lightfront Wave Functions inspired by recent results of non-perturbative continuum techniques and algebraic nucleon Lightfront Wave Functions. We also test the robustness of our algorithm on reggeized phenomenological parameterizations. This approach paves the way to a better understanding of the nucleon structure from non-perturbative techniques and to a unification of Generalized Parton Distributions and Transverse Momentum Dependent Parton Distribution Functions phenomenology through Lightfront Wave Functions., Comment: 36 pages, 11 figures, matches published version in EPJC

The authors of ref. Phys.Rev. D94 (2016) no.1, 014502 reported about a careful analysis of the impact of lattice artifacts on the $SU(3)$ gauge-field propagators. In particular, they found that the low-momentum behavior of the renormalized propagators depends on the lattice bare coupling and interpreted this fact as the result of it being affected by finite lattice spacing artifacts. We do not share this interpretation and present here a different and more suitable explanation for these results.

This article reports on the detailed study of the three-gluon vertex in four-dimensional $SU(3)$ Yang-Mills theory employing lattice simulations with large physical volumes and high statistics. A meticulous scrutiny of the so-called symmetric and asymmetric kinematical configurations is performed and it is shown that the associated form-factor changes sign at a given range of momenta. We briefly report on a recent computation, with the help of a fruitful algebraic model, sketching the pion valence dressed-quark generalized parton distribution. We report on new results on the infrared behaviour of the three-gluon vertex in quenched Quantum Chormodynamics, obtained from large-volume lattice simulations. The main focus of our study is the appearance of the characteristic infrared feature known as 'zero crossing', the origin of which is intimately connected with the nonperturbative masslessness of the Faddeev-Popov ghost. The appearance of this effect is clearly visible in one of the two kinematic configurations analyzed, and its theoretical origin is discussed in the framework of Schwinger-Dyson equations. This letter reports on how the Wilson flow technique can efficaciously kill the short-distance quantum fluctuations of 2- and 3-gluon Green functions, removes the $\Lambda_{\rm QCD}$ scale and destroys the transition from the confining non-perturbative to the asymptotically-free perturbative sector. After the Wilson flow, the behavior of the Green functions with momenta can be described in terms of the quasi-classical instanton background. The same behavior also occurs, before the Wilson flow, at low-momenta. This last result permits applications as, for instance, the detection of instanton phenomenological properties or a cheap lattice calibration., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

We review recent works on the modelling of Generalised Parton Distributions within the Dyson-Schwinger formalism. We highlight how covariant computations, using the impulse approximation, allows one to fulfil most of the theoretical constraints of the GPDs. Specific attention is brought to chiral properties and especially the so-called soft pion theorem, and its link with the Axial-Vector Ward-Takahashi identity. The limitation of the impulse approximation are also explained. Beyond impulse approximation computations are reviewed in the forward case. Finally, we stress the advantages of the overlap of lightcone wave functions, and possible ways to construct covariant GPD models within this framework, in a two-body approximation., Comment: Review paper, 52 pages, 20 figures

We describe the architecture and functionalities of a C++ software framework, coined PARTONS, dedicated to the phenomenology of Generalized Parton Distributions. These distributions describe the three-dimensional structure of hadrons in terms of quarks and gluons, and can be accessed in deeply exclusive lepto- or photo-production of mesons or photons. PARTONS provides a necessary bridge between models of Generalized Parton Distributions and experimental data collected in various exclusive production channels. We outline the specification of the PARTONS framework in terms of practical needs, physical content and numerical capacity. It is recalled why, as already stated in a previous paper, there seems to be an inconsistency in identifying the non perturbative ZA,MOM as the renormalisation of the axial current, or equivalently, in setting as normalisation condition that the renormalised vertex=1 at p^2 = mu^2 at some renormalisation scale mu, where p is the momentum in the legs. Indeed, unlike the vector case, the Ward-Takahashi (WT) identity for the axial current is shown to imply both the renormalisation scale independence of ZA and a mu2 dependence of ZA,MOM. This mu^2 dependence is simply related to certain invariants in the pseudoscalar vertex and can persist in the chiral limit due to the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry (pion pole). It is seen clearly in the mu^2 dependence of some lattice calculations of ZA,MOM/ZV,MOM near the chiral limit., Comment: One reference added; some minor material errors corrected; no substantial change with respect to the first version

In order to learn effectively from measurements of generalised parton distributions (GPDs), it is desirable to compute them using a framework that can potentially connect empirical information with basic features of the Standard Model. We compute the pion quark Generalized Parton Distribution H and quark Double Distributions F and G in a coupled Bethe-Salpeter and Dyson-Schwinger approach in terms of quark flavors or isospin states. We use simple analytic expressions inspired by the numerical resolution of Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpeter equations. We explicitly check the support and polynomiality properties, and the behavior under charge conjugation or time invariance of our model. We obtain analytic expressions for the pion Double Distributions and Generalized Parton Distribution at vanishing pion momentum transfer at a low scale. Our model compares very well to experimental pion form factor or Parton Distribution Function data. This paper is the first stage of a GPD-modeling program which will be pursued by incorporating more realistic solutions of the Bethe-Salpeter and Dyson-Schwinger equations., Comment: 20 pages, 9 figures

This letter reports on a new procedure for the lattice spacing setting that takes advantage of the very precise determination of the strong coupling in Taylor scheme. Although it can be applied for the physical scale setting with the experimental value of $\Lambda_{\overline{\rm MS}}$ as an input, the procedure is particularly appropriate for relative "calibrations". The method is here applied for simulations with four degenerate light quarks in the sea and leads to prove that their physical scale is compatible with the same one for simulations with two light and two heavy flavours., Comment: 5 pages, 2 tables

We present a lattice calculation of the renormalized running coupling constant in symmetric (MOM) and asymmetric ($\widetilde{\rm MOM}$) momentum substraction schemes including $u$, $d$, $s$ and $c$ quarks in the sea. An Operator Product Expansion dominated by the dimension-two $\langle A^2\rangle$ condensate is used to fit the running of the coupling. We argue that the agreement in the predicted $\langle A^2\rangle$ condensate for both schemes is a strong support for the validity of the OPE approach and the effect of this non-gauge invariant condensate over the running of the strong coupling., Comment: Revised version (8 pages, 5 figures)

This paper reports on the determination of $\alpha_S$ from lattice simulations with 2+1+1 twisted-mass dynamical flavours {\it via} the computation of the ghost-gluon coupling renormalized in the MOM Taylor scheme. A high-statistics sample of gauge configurations, used to evaluate the coupling from ghost and gluon propagators, allows for the appropriate update of previous results, now performing an improved analysis of data with reduced statistical errors and the systematical uncertainties under a better control., Comment: 15 pages, 7 figs (final version published in Phys.Rev.D)

Exploiting the recent lattice results for the infrared gluon propagator with light dynamical quarks, we solve the gap equation for the quark propagator. Gluon and ghost propagators data, obtained in Landau gauge from lattice simulations with two light and two heavy dynamical quark flavours ($N_f$=2+1+1), are described here with a running formula including a four-loop perturbative expression and a nonperturbative OPE correction dominated by the local operator $A^2$. The Wilson coefficients and their variation as a function of the coupling constant are extracted from the numerical data and compared with the theoretical expressions that, after being properly renormalized, are known at ${\cal O}(\alpha^4)$. As also $\Lambda_{\msbar}$ is rather well known for $N_f$=2+1+1, this allows for a precise consistency test of the OPE approach in the joint description of different observables., Comment: 12 pages, 11 figures, 3 tables

We report on an estimate of \alpha_s, renormalised in the MSbar scheme at the tau and Z^0 mass scales, by means of lattice QCD. Our major improvement compared to previous lattice calculations is that, for the first time, no perturbative treatment at the charm threshold has been required since we have used statistical samples of gluon fields built by incorporating the vacuum polarisation effects of u/d, s and c sea quarks. Extracting \alpha_s in the Taylor scheme from the lattice measurement of the ghost-ghost-gluon vertex, we obtain \alpha_s^{MSbar}(m^2_Z)=0.1200(14) and \alpha_s^{MSbar}(m^2_tau)=0.339(13)., Comment: Proceedings of the "QCD 12" conference in Montpellier

We study chiral symmetry breaking for fundamental charged fermions coupled electromagnetically to photons with the inclusion of four-fermion contact self-interaction term. We employ multiplicatively renormalizable models for the photon dressing function and the electron-photon vertex which minimally ensures mass anomalous dimension = 1. Vacuum polarization screens the interaction strength. Consequently, the pattern of dynamical mass generation for fermions is characterized by a critical number of massless fermion flavors above which chiral symmetry is restored. This effect is in diametrical opposition to the existence of criticality for the minimum interaction strength necessary to break chiral symmetry dynamically. The presence of virtual fermions dictates the nature of phase transition. Miransky scaling laws for the electromagnetic interaction strength and the four-fermion coupling, observed for quenched QED, are replaced by a mean-field power law behavior corresponding to a second order phase transition. These results are derived analytically by employing the bifurcation analysis, and are later confirmed numerically by solving the original non-linearized gap equation. A three dimensional critical surface is drawn to clearly depict the interplay of the relative strengths of interactions and number of flavors to separate the two phases. We also compute the beta-function and observe that it has ultraviolet fixed point. The power law part of the momentum dependence, describing the mass function, reproduces the quenched limit trivially.
